By in United States,

I appreciate that these are mainly not rehashes of previous sets, aside from HH. They all look pretty good!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Whoa! A baby owl, and a new style dog! PaB here i come (in a year ;))

Gravatar
By in United States,

Interesting that we’re dipping back into the first book/movies so soon. I guess they just release whatever sets from whatever “year” whenever they feel like it now, I’m just accustomed to the annual waves proceeding more or less in chronological order.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Don't care for the theme but the dog & the Cho Chang minifig appeal

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

For me, the most interesting is that we’re back to grey roofs…

I think it's meant to be Ron's owl, Pigwidgeon

Gravatar
By in United States,

So are the boathouse and owlery not connectable to the 2021-2023 modular system?

Edit: Oh, I see the boathouse has clips in the back for some purpose. Hmmm.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They are starting to become quite stale for me. They all look quite similar to things they've done in the past with similar or the same minifigures. It is good that they bring new sets out for kids new to the theme, or redo things they have done before at a different price point, but overall just a bit boring.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m really drawn to the Forbidden Forest set - that’s very appealing box art design and a nice selection at a few weeks pocket money. There are some very nice choices at the reasonable price end so my kids will be happy bunnies!

Gravatar
By in United States,

That large Hedwig still creeps me out.

Did someone say Star Wars?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even with price-per-piece, 76426 seems bit too expensive for what it is.

@ResIpsaLoquitur : according to rumors, we're supposed to be getting a new modular Hogwarts system this year.
Again. Yippee, just what we asked for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The instructions for the Owlery claim that we can “Build the most detailed Hogwarts Castle” starting with these sets. I do hope this will become the definitive minifigure scale Hogwarts and maybe afterwards let the theme rest a few years.

Jeebers. And I have the complete 2021 system, including the D2C add-ons. (Screams)

By in United States,

I think the car and Hagrid's Hut are great remakes at really great prices. I want them both. In particular, I think it's a great idea to sell the car by itself at a low price instead of locking it into a larger, more expensive, set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Some good starter sets for new fans.
Collectible portraits are about the only pull for me (MUST resist).
I was hoping for a more detailed Ford Anglia when the sets were announced.
Like the brick built trunk.
Would like LEGO to produce another 'bald' head cap - one with less hair on the side!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly the sets look a bit “Juniorized” to me…looks like Harry is becoming a City boy.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nice baby norbert, but I allready have 3 versions of HH.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

>Make new Fang
>Make it wrong color
????

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are all a bit pricier than I'd like. A 10% reduction across the board would be better. Still, it's nice to see all but one under $50 and nothing at $100 at this point.

Pros: I don't think we've seen an Owlery or Boathouse set before. I like that the one set which is an alternate version of existing sets (Hagrid's Hut) has a nice design and multiple reasons to pick it up (Fang, Norbert, new Hagrid). Also, I'm glad there aren't any "completionist" sets like Hogwarts Moments or House Crests, since it's hard enough to divvy up Lego sets between two kids.

Cons: Another collectible tile series? Can't wait for another dozen Jocunda Sykes pieces.

WTFs: We're back to gray roofs? Having recently completed acquiring the 2018-20 Hogwarts sets as well as the 2021-23 series, I don't know how I feel about yet another Hogwarts system.

Looks like there's eight more HP sets plus a polybag coming this year. Here's hoping we get a Hogshead and/or a Knockturn Alley/Borgin and Burkes set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like then number of small sets. I think it fits Harry Potter well and reminds me of the types of sets I had available as a kid. Sets like 7110, 5918, and 7131 that made cool themes accessible to more people.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The car is nice to see made as seperate set this time around , both for new collectors, or possibly people not wanting another car in yet another set (if they do Privet Drive, or Whomping Willow scenes at some point again)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice to be able to get the car cheaply, although I already have one. The boathouse is cute. Hagrid's Hut is well done, but I prefer the Prisoner of Azkaban version. The Owlery is the only one of these sets I'll be buying. The build is good but I'm mainly getting it for the figs and owls so will likely part out for custom Hogwarts stuff. Not a big fan of the Forbidden Forest set. It's basically just recycling a couple of existing moulds with some rudimentary trees. I'm not mad at the wave overall though. Nice to get some variety.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is my favorite theme, but thankfully I don't need most of these.

I will get Hagrid's Hut. I prefer Prisoner version, but it is nice to see a different version from earlier movie, plus the figures help a lot.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good looking sets, but Hagrid’s Hut feels expensive. Probably gonna wait for a discount on that one.

I guess the green roofs were a 20th anniversary homage to the original sets, but it makes sense that they probably want to stick with the movie designs.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I really like 76432. And those new animal molds are awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not as bad as the prices on Marvel and Star Wars stuff, but these are definitely also creeping up into "highway robbery" adjacency

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not an HP LEGO person so much(enjoyed the books and films), but a few of these I would get (definitely the Anglia). I'll probably get a couple of these for my nephew's collection of HP though.

Either way, kinda wondering if you really need a used car dealership's worth of the damned things.

On the other hand though, between Ron's mop of hair and Harry's flannel, you've got the makings of a Kurt Cobain-minifig. And that's... something, I guess."

Where would the hair attach to?

I ended up building my own in 2017, I think. Seats two side-by-side in the front, plus Hedwig, Harry’s trunk, and Scabbers in the back seat. The trunk does not open, however. But I’ve also got uninterrupted stripes on my doors (I cut material out of the white sticker borders), and cleaner detailing. Then again, it’s probably got another 50-100pcs over this version.

71001-8
71020-2

Gravatar

I suppose we're going to get into rather monotonous Hogwarts sets now to complete the full model.

She calls it the "Wizarding World" to encompass all of her IPs outside of what she writes under her pseudonyms. Can't just call it the Potterverse when there's Fantastic Beasts taking place in the US.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I'll be getting the flying Ford Anglia, such a beauty.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've had every Ford Anglia since the beginning except 2010's. I'm getting this one too, as it's pure perfection, and I want to make it in other colors too!

I think it's just for the owlery, boathouse and Hagrids hut because, in the movie they were the only buildings with grey roofs.

While Star Wars gets repeats , I think it is becoming worse for the Harry Potter theme. At least SW has multiple eras so that not everything is centred around sets containing Luke, Han and Leia. Over half the minifigs in these new sets are Harry, Ron or Hermione. Similarly there is a wide range of location and ship types, whereas here we get a lot of tan parts for another bit of Hogwarts. Even when a location is not repeated it still looks like other sets that have gone before. Which is fine for people that haven't bought in the past but stale for those that have.

Is that 2x1 cheese slope on the Weasley’s car new? I’m used to seeing the grille version of it.

yes, it is.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At first I thought the "portraits" were a do-over of the wizard cards to get the accurate pentagonal shape without printing the whole thing on a tile. If they're paintings, they should probably be 2x3 tiles because most paintings are square. An equilateral hexagon tile would be a good new mold, for wizard cards and other things. We got stars and hearts already, so why not?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ugh. Every wave of Harry Potter makes it harder for a proper Castle revival to happen.

And since I refuse to buy or endorse anything related to the franchise and its creator... my long drought continues.

It's new as @Murdoch17 said. Like you i am also used to the grille version, But this piece will be useful in many different MOCs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's a nice repeat of HH, which I don't believe I already have. The Owlery and Forbidden Forest also have good new animals/creatures; not so interested in the other two. Still, not a bad wave IMO.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m tempted by the Fantasy Forest but it’s not worth £25. I reckon it will eventually be heavily discounted, maybe even down to two for £30 at Argos, at which point I may pick up a couple.

Star Wars also has the advantage of multiple locations, whereas the vast majority of Harry Potter takes place in or around Hogwarts. And even when they do travel, it’s not necessarily to anywhere that compelling as a set.

Finally, a Ford Anglia that doesn't require purchasing some big expensive set!

More 1950s British police cars for my city...or maybe I'll make a Hillman Husky...or use the parts for an EH Holden...

Mine didn't. It did require that I actually design the thing, though. If you don't count the luggage, pets, passengers, or stickers, it clocks in at 216pcs. Mine's technically smaller, since the sideview mirrors are accurately mounted on top of the hood instead of sticking out the sides.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The only thing appealing to me are glow in the dark elements from forbidden forest - that round plates could be useful for moc's car headlights and the spider is just so cool touch.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I don't mind the (sort of) remakes, there's a good reason for that.
I just hope that the HP team has a real plan for the future with this 'new' system and doesn't just produce a somewhat random number of locations like the last ones.

I'd like to see more sets dedicated to smaller parts of the castle, spreading them out over a longer period of time; helping pacing purchases.

To me, putting, for example, the great hall and the grand tower in one set (like 75954) was a mistake. Those should have been two pretty large sets on their own, always.

This first wave makes me hopeful, though, with some more rarely seen locations and the tagline pointing to this series as the most detailed yet. Let's wait and see...

Gravatar

Also - collectible portraits...!? Sounds very interesting :-D

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

The instruction manual for the Owlery set apparently has hints of the upcoming new Hogwarts Castle sets, as mentioned by a fan on YouTube.

And from the looks of it, we'll be getting another detailed Great Hall complete with a courtyard and the iconic grand marble staircase tower. It also seems we'll be getting another expansion similar to the 2020 Astronomy Tower set, only this time the titular tower isn't included. The silhouettes of at least two Hogwarts sections look imposing and quite promising! We actually might be getting the best wave yet! Or at the very least, a vast improvement over the 2021-2022 modular sets!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The owl battlepack is great! The boathouse really needed a little more development and new students.

I wish the Forrest was more compelling and less a re-hash of redundant creatures and people. Sad.

Hagrid's and the others are really redundant. At least we get a few new molds/characters.

Someone needs to shoot that Privet owl 'n put him out of his misery. Po' ugly, mangy thing.

Do you have instructions for this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@bealegopro:
Posted? No. Like most of my cars, I designed it entirely in MLCad, so instructions are certainly possible. I wouldn't even consider posting them until it's been to Brickworld Chicago, though.

Anyways, if I added in ten parts to account for the minifigs and two wand sprues, mine would clock in at 230pcs vs 165 for this. They appear to be nearly identical in size, but my C-pillars and rear windshield are flat in back, and their C-pillar is way too large (to the point that they simply omitted the B-pillars altogether). But they did finally get side-by-side seating for two minifigs, which actually is something of an accomplishment...especially if your set has to get the stamp of approval from the infamous Design Department.

Well, it was worth a shot. I guess I'll just have to wait until Brickworld Chicago, which is... June 15th.

I haven’t made firm plans to go yet. The last year I made it was 2018, so I really do want to start going again, but 2019 ended up being a Yellowstone trip, and it just hasn’t been in the cards since the pandemic.

Also, I’ve built up a bit of a backlog of MOCs, and I’m not entirely sure I want to pit them all against each other in the same categories. For Earth Craft, I’ve got 6-wide Mater, the Ford Anglia, the Good Humor truck, and the Ferris Bueller Fauxrari (plus I really want to make a Knight Bus patterned after my 8-wide Routemaster). For Creature, I have Starro and a dozen Beholders (and counting). Presently, the GH truck still needs to be updated with the proper license plates and GH deco, and I need to see about making the two garage attendants to drive the Fauxrari (plan is to custom deco the shirts at our LEGO Store’s Minifig Factory). So, I dunno, maybe Mater and the Anglia the next time I make it, and the other two the time after that.

?? It’s THAT groundbreaking of a build. Instructions have to be embargoed until after the day of the convention, printed on vellum, in an aluminum briefcase with two combination locks… I laughed for several minutes at this, thank you Dave

@ThegoodDr:
Look, I do enough public displays that I've kind of lost the incentive to post pictures of everything I build. I don't think I've ever posted instructions for a MOC, and it's probably been at least two decades since I posted instructions for how to build anything. I know of at least one instance where copies of someone else's MOCs got nominated for an award at an AFOL convention, and all he did was post pictures of the completed models. Besides, it's a big ordeal to make the trip all the way to Chicago, so I like the idea that most of the attendees will be seeing anything I bring for the first time.
