LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary exclusive minifigure revealed!

Posted by ,

Amazon has published a new image of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary Updated Edition, which reveals the exclusive minifigure included as Darth Maul.

Whereas the other anniversary minifigures revealed so far are characters never before portrayed in LEGO, this version of Darth Maul takes inspiration from the classic minifigure from 1999, with 25th anniversary branding on the back. In that regard, this is similar to the figures produced for the 20th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars in 2019.

Are you satisfied with this minifigure choice? Let us know in the comments.

By in United States,

I'm just glad that we've still never gotten a Nien Numb minifigure. Especially happy that they skipped him this year for the 25th anniversary. Keep it up, LEGO!

(this is definitely not reverse psychology)

By in United States,

I'm kinda confused.

LEGO said that for the 25th anniversary, they were devoting these exclusive minifigures to ones we had never gotten before.

But now they're remaking the 1999 Darth Maul with 25th anniversary printing, like the 20th ones in 2019. It doesn't make sense to me.

I was really hoping the book minifigure might be someone like Yaddle, Dexter, or Boss Nass, but I guess not. Hopefully one of them will be the unknown 6th anniversary fig.

By in United States,

That Darth Maul was one of the longest lasting original figures (only outlived by the B1 Battle Droid) appearing for a decade. Most of the sets he appeared in were small. So I'm bewildered to see he's worth over $10 used.

Maybe something to do with the DK brand partnership? I can see someone in their marketing department not wanting an obscure figure to promote their book.

By in United States,

Man I’m really disappointed I was hoping for something a bit better. Like the marvel dictionary got an amazing figure!

By in France,

This is actually the 2007 Maul, the original 1999 release had a totally different eye design

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Well, I won’t be getting that book.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Boring. Easy pass, and no need to buy the book.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are we not gonna talk about Ahsoka's lightsaber being backwards on the cover?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I actually own an original one of these, so I’m happy to let this one pass me by.

I never know which side is which, lol.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do people like the special printing on the back of minifigs like this? I personally don’t care for it.

Technically, I suppose, but the head with updated eyes is considered a variant of the 1999 version because the part number did not change.

Lame. We’ve gotten a better Maul already.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

lame. but that's a good thing, I don't have any reason to buy it.

That Maul still holds up unlike most minifigures from that era

Also, @capnrex101 will you be reviewing this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Darth Maul is one of my favorite SW characters, especially because of the extended story arc we got in Clone Wars and Rebels . . . so I'm always happy to see another Maul, but why not give us a truly different version? I would love an "Old Master" version from the end of his story in Rebels. Such a great ending deserves it's own figure!

Pretty soon there will be anniversary editions of Star Wars minifigure update books.

Well, but this is the fleshie version of the yellow-era Maul. Gotta expand our Maul haul!

By in United States,

Not sure what I wanted, like to keep my level of disappointment down, so am always hopeful, LEGO will do something unexpected.

That said, this is not what I wanted. However, I do like that this 'remake" has 25th printing on the back, to include with my 20th Anniversary Collection of figures. Wish they had done the same with Tatooine Luke (yellow head), that was release a few years prior.

Perhaps LEGO will do something similar this year, like they did with the 20th ObiWan, provide a surprise figure, in a Polybag?

Might be because he's one (if not the only) version of Maul where they didn't screw up his facial expression. Anyways most of the old figures have become rather expensive, 1999 Darth Vader and 2000 Boba Fett also had at least one appearance each in a very small set, yet they are now over $10.

By in United States,

Can Lego Star Wars get any worse?

I'm so stupid. I think I pre-ordered this (hard face slap!). Never again!

I got back into Lego because of SW. I'm now firmly convinced that it will also be the driving force that sends me back out. Poetic.

This annoys me so much; both here and Bricklink have the 1999 and 2007 versions considered as the same minifigure and they are not!!

Not only are the eyes different, the torso print while they are the same, it is done in a darker colour on the 2007 one

Brickset please change it lol (?°?°)?? ???

By in United Kingdom,

I do like these books, but I'd love one that was written by https://brickset.com/profile/capnrex101/ .
I'll probably get this once it gets reduced (like the new Marvel one is now only £10).
Also, for the 20th Anniversary book, the LEGO.com version came in a extra thick sleeve with a couple of prints inside - wonder if they will do the same for this?

A new mold head mold with special printing for a book would be a first. The best I can see is a Nien Numb who comes with a classic 90s Aviator cap and no ears.

I have similar issues with the original Stormtroopers and asked Brickset, they said that they only want to copy whatever Bricklink says and have no interest in trying to verify claims like this (even if they are simply true). So Bricklink is the defacto only authority even though they do have many issues that never get addressed or resolved because of their weird editing system.

For anyone who wants to know regarding the Stormtroopers:

The sets from the 2000-2004 era have a gap in the middle of the mouth and often one side was kind of lower or higher compared to the other side. Al of these "off-looking" variants are definitely from sets sold in 2004 or before.
With 2005s Imperial Inspection they have fixed the pad printing into a continuous black line for the mouth.
In late 2007 and with the 2008 Imperial Battlepack they have rolled out another change that made all Stormtrooper mouths into grey lines with black dots which also affected sets still in production back then so some copies of Imperial Landing Craft and Star Destroyer came either with grey or black mouths.

The issue is black mouth helmets are all treated as the same piece even though the pictures of all the old black mouth Stormtrooper variants show very obvious differences between before 2004 and after. These differences are very easy to trace back to specific sets since the clean continuous black mouth is exclusive to only Imperial Landing Craft, Imperial Inspection and the first Star Destroyer Playset as well as spring to autumn copies of Magnet Set 851939.

Edit: Just saw that apparently the part number did not change for Mauls head at least. Even if that is true for every change of this kind ( I doubt that Double Molded Stormtrooper head with or without printed spots on the back got different official part numbers), a site like Bricklink should consider it different pieces because they change the look of the figures immensely and the change simply puts a date on when the figure was produced. It's like a seller of 50s era sets claiming they are authentic but not paying attention to the tiles in the sets having no brims (3069 v.s. 3069a)

It is not that we have no interest in verifying information, but our minifigure data is provided by BrickLink and we have no means of making changes to it, unfortunately.

There would obviously be advantages to hosting our own minifigure data, hopefully avoiding any mistakes and improving on BrickLink's formatting, but it would require a huge amount of work to do so.

I’m not sure Classic Spacemen really fit the Star Wars theme. Too cheerful.

Remembers what?

@JulieHD:
Combine a standard lightsaber hilt with a telescope (both exist in light-bley), and plug 3L bars into the ends to get a good Darth Maul lightsaber that he can actually wield _two-handed_.

But this figure is exclusive thanks to the back printing, so they are still giving us exclusive Maul figure. Kudos to them for that
