Customisable logo cap now available in the Insiders rewards centre

Posted by ,

If you have Insiders points to burn, you might like to exchange 4,000 of them for this customisable logo baseball cap, which has just been added to the rewards centre.

The black snapback cap is good quality, embellished with LEGO details such as a brick pattern under the visor and a LEGO logo on the back and thankfully, unlike others that have been offered as rewards recently, it does not have a 'distressed' visor. If the style suited me (which it doesn't), I would wear it.

The gold sticker reads 'Only the best is good enough' in English and Danish.

It's main USP other than the LEGO branding is the Velcro patch on the front to which a cloth patch can be attached.

Three are provided, each with a logo from a classic theme: fantasy-era Castle Crown Knights , Blacktron, and Bionicle.

4,000 points is a lot to spend on it, for which you could get £25 in gift cards, but I guess that's what you'd pay for a similar baseball cap elsewhere.

A nice item, then, but strictly for those that have points to burn and prefer to redeem them on non-brick rewards.

If this article has 'peaked' your interest in the cap, head on over to the Rewards Centre to acquire one.

Thanks to LEGO for providing the cap for this article.

Turn the blacktron one upside down and you get a bonus Zelda cap too :-P

By in Ireland,

I see what you did there, but this cap has not piqued my interest, unfortunately.

Is it bad that I thought the Bionicle logo was a Galidor logo? :P

I mean you could get this and the Micro Ninjago City for me... XD

By in United States,

The Velcro patch is conveniently compatible with "tactical" outerwear as well. I've worn my Blacktron patch more on my 5.11 brand jacket than on the hat it came with.

By in Netherlands,

Is this news? I had this one delivered half a year ago already, maybe because it is region or country dependent? I live in the Netherlands and it goes well with my wooden shoes ;)

OH IT'S BLACKTRON. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I was seeing a Lorulean Triforce on the Brickset homepage today X-D

By in Australia,

No interest in a hat but the micro Ninjago City is FINALLY showing up on the Australian site.

By in Germany,

Unfortunatly the patches are of minimal interest. I would just use the Blacktron logo. Maybe next time if they make a blue cap with an ice planet 2002, an islanders logo and perhaps a fabuland patch to stick on. Then i would be willing to invest 4000 points.
I own around 30000 points by now and i have not used any since i am a vip. That was back in 2011 when i bought the vw t1 camper which kind of woke me up slowly from my dark ages.

If it had a Space patch then I might've been interested.

Because nothing screams more of a high quality brand and "only the best is good enough" than a cheaply made wearable made in a sweatshop in China or Bangladesh. ;)

I have never seen that water logo before and was confused until I read the article (is it sad that Brickset is like Playboy to me and I tend ti mostly look at the pictures… I also can’t define LEGO but I know it when I see it). I was in my dark ages when Bionicle was a thing and its prominence kept me in my dark ages for a while. Better logos would have been classic space, Octan, fire flames, etc.

Yeah, it's been available in the US for a long, long time.

It's not new in America either. I'm actually wearing mine right now.

Got this a while back. Bonkle hat Bonkle hat Bonkle hat!

By in United Kingdom,

If it was a different shape and not as boxy, a different colour, didn't have that awful "only the best" stuff on the visor, didn't have the velco patch and had some more interesting logos to choose from for the design, then I might be interested. Although not at £25.

A nice Cao, I hope it looks great on those who acquire it.

By in United States,

As advertised, more patches (additional hats) are supposed to be released, but I wouldn't bet on it.

One nice feature that wasn't mentioned: The LEGO Group is also offering a cross-body bag (the one with the Mini-figure print on it) as a LEGO Insiders redemption, for about the same number of points, and -- somewhat oddly -- the description on that doesn't mention that it has a velcro attachment point that will take these patches, so the patches have a BIT more utility if you own both items.

In the USA, each VIP/Insider point is worth about 0.77¢, so 4,000 VIP/Insider points is worth $30.80 in discounts.

This is a pricey promo that doesn't appeal to me personally, so I'm going to pass. I'll save my VIP/Insider points for future Micro Ninjago City builds.

II do like the hat, but even if I had enough points, I probably wouldn't get it. Less because of the cost and more because I don't wear the hats I do have that often.

Yes, it is bad, very bad. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Not sure about the Euro value but you're sitting on ~£185 of free Lego right there. Why not just spend the points on the next set you want instead of money?

Based on empirical evidence, the gold sticker will likely vary in shade, crumble after use, and/or be missing.

By in United Kingdom,

I've got lots of Insider Points to burn, but if I got this I'd also have a baseball cap to burn.

Personally I'm hoping for some other Modular Pop-up Postcards to appear.

No points, but I might be interested in buying one.. I'd like Classic Space logo or lion knights ideally.

I got two last year so I could have one each with the Blacktron and Bionicle logos and figures it ships with some rando Castle logo that’s not Forestmen, Dark Forest, or Ninja), and just traded a third for a bag of black squirrels with a member of my LUG who couldn’t swing the points. I think I’m still able to claim another if I wanted more. So, yeah, been a while.

@Binnekamp:
Nah, Blacktron don’t cry. They’re plotting sweet, sweet revenge.

By in United States,

Aha, @Huw got sent a review copy, and it doesn’t even appear to have a Bricklink listing. 5007998 is listed here as being available in 2023, though. So this one stealthily slid under the radar. Must be the Blacktron logo at work.

I thought about that, of course, but maybe i am just waiting for something bigger than those small sets you can currently exchange for points in the insiders rewards section. Or one day i spend all points on PaB in a Lego store.. Also an option.

Yes. Very.

I will an extreme benefit of the doubt, though, as the Unity-Duty-Destiny Three Virtues logo's first major appearances and Galidor are from an overlapping time period. That said, Galidor fizzled in a year and that logo kept being used for the remainder of Bionicle Generation 1, so relative exposure should have suggested a different source...

Yes, you should have thought that the Blacktron logo was an upside down Tri Force.

I’m so glad we got this article because I’ve been seeing this reward available for months now and couldn’t figure out why they screwed up so badly on a Zelda hat. At least if they made an upside down Mario hat it would have been Wario.

By in United States,

It's kind of a cool idea, but I don't think I'd be willing to spend 4,000 points on it. If additional patches were available for cheap I might have some interest. The logos chosen are also a tad odd.

Personally I'd rather get the Classic Space Logo than the Crown Knights, but then I guess there would be a redundancy with two space themes.

The color on the BIONICLE logo is also a tad odd. While I'm 90% sure that shade of blue has been used before, more often they go with white or silver on a black background. Using the actual colors of Spherus Magna with a starry background could've also been a cool twist on it. Then again you'd run into redundancies with that once more, with two black patches.

Maybe it would've been best to have collections of three themed patches. Blacktron + Classic Space + M-Tron logos. Crown Knights + Crusaders + Vladek's logos. Three Virtues + Bohrok Horde + Brotherhood of Makuta logos. Ect.

Y'know, I've been thinking about it, they really did not think that Blacktron logo through, lol. The classic space logo was right there, maybe the most recognizable Lego icon that isn't the Lego logo itself. 99% of people who see the Blacktron insignia isolated like this are going to think "Hey, Zelda! Why is it upside down though?" I find it difficult to believe that this never occured to anyone in charge of designing those patches.

(Especially since Lego is literally in middle of developing a Zelda set right now from what I hear)

It's interesting that the two appeared at about the same time, in 1986 in the case of Zelda and 1987 for Blacktron.

Oh interesting, I wasn't aware of that! I had thought that Blacktron was a little earlier, in the early '80s, but I guess I need to brush up on my classic Lego history.

Ooh, I could go with a Bohrok logo hat…

@Huw:
It gets better, though. Another member of my LUG recently informed me there was a third IP around the same time that used a similar logo (unfortunately he couldn’t recall the name). There’s a fractal call the Sierpinski Triangle, and the Hoto Clan from Japan had a mon (crest) that looks very similar.
