LEGO Dungeons & Dragons to be revealed next week!

Posted by ,

Following a couple of teasers, a LEGO.com page has confirmed that the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons set will be announced next week, on March 19th at 17:00 UTC.

The page features silhouettes of four minifigures doubtless featured in the set, inspired by classic Dungeons & Dragons archetypes.

What are you hoping to see in this set? Let us know in the comments and look out for more information next week.

By in United States,

Lego and D&D is a match made by the elder gods.

Hoping this set and the CMFs are successful. Would love to see a full line launched like Minecraft did after Ideas.

By in United States,

Too soon to say. But if it’s a great fantasy medieval smorgasbord board sounds good to me.

D&D fans would you use the minifigs as game pieces?

There is simply no mercy for my wallet

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This seems to have been a long time coming since the first teaser.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I am surprisingly quite drawn to this 'yet unreleased' set even though I never had any interest in playing the D&D games.

I liked the movie D&D honour among thieves and hopefully they'll make a few more (plenty of material I guess)

I really liked the proposed design and I hope the Lego changes won't be too drastic. I'm expecting something spectacular because at USD$359 - well - it has to be spectacular!

By in New Zealand,

My preference is that they don't make a full line of D&D, just because it's likely to do what Lord of the Rings did and replace the 'classic' Castle sets that are currently being replaced

I would be happy with a couple of other one-off D&D sets though

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Another reveal of a planned revealing unless an unplanned leak forces lego to a premature revealing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't think this will get a look in for me - too many other nice sets at the moment, especially the new Space line

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I can't wait! I've recently started playing the game so I might be getting this set.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Is this not the giant dragon set?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Always seems funny to me that they plan to do reveals, yet if you know where to look you can see the leaked images weeks beforehand.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The CMF line though, I bet that's gonna be amazing.

I wondered that myself a bit. Why this and not just more Castle theme? Then you don't have licensing to worry about, either. Are there characters people are hoping to see? Or is this going to lean into the recent movie?

What usually happens is I end up forgetting my mini and use another players old Star Wars figurine. So my Harengon rogue sometimes is represented by Boba Fett.

Also, probably not. I doubt we’ll get a Harengon minifig anytime soon. I personally just use Hero Forge to get characters.

I’m also still miffed at WOTC for that open games license debacle. That, and the price of their stuff keeps going up while the quality just keeps getting worse. Add that to the people leading the game development being pretty racist and sexist when it comes to white men, and I’m not rushing to give them a dime.

Oh yeah. And I don’t want to deal with the Pinkertons if I happen to find a set a few days early,

There are a few popular D&D characters -- Drizzt, Minsc, Elminster, and Tasha, to name a few. I'd love to see the rumored CMF collection feature some of those. A Minsc figure with his pet hamster Boo would be amazing.

I don't think the set or CMF line is going to reference the movie. It feels like the time has passed on that. Most likely, the set is coming out now simply to capitalize on 2024 being the 50 year anniversary of D&D.

I can't wait for the CMF line. It will be a great way to get all the different characters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If based on the old cartoon, I'd be much more interested... Still not sure I'd bite though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would like to see:
the characters from the movie CMF; or
sets based on the movie ~$19.99us
Also, sets along the design of the Disney story books based on D&D sourcebooks;
How about taking the HP ‘house sets’ design and making them instead as ‘class sets’ where you’d have say 3 magic-user minifigs depicting different spell caster archetypes/races… and fighter/ and rogue /and priest would give you 4 basic class sets…
I’d love to see some Easter eggs that harken back to the AD&D 1e of the late ‘70s-early’80s (or earlier!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Make Hank, Sheila, Eric, Diana, Presto(n), Bobby, Uni, Dungeon Master, Venger, and Shadow Thief. Then you’ll have my attention; maybe even my money… maybe.

An endless stream of one-off D&D sets! *crit 20 to dodge*

@dimc:
Yes.

@ra226:
They ran a contest on Ideas to design a set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of D&D. The winning project was posted before anyone had watched the film, so unless there was a violation of the posted rules (no employees, family, yada), I don't see how it could have anything to do with that.

@JDawg5:
I only ever read the Dragonlance books, so for me it'd be characters like Tasslehoff, Raistlin, or Lord Soth.

This set was leaked already. The Lego final product looks nothing like the fan product. Looked like some Frankenstein mix of creator dragon with creator homes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As a D&D gamer for over 40 years and an AFOL for 30+, you can bet your favourite minifigure that I’ll be getting the D&D LEGO set and CMFs! Much of my LEGO collection is already fantasy themed.

Kre-O - a Hasbro and Oxford Toys joint venture - took a stab at D&D minifigures and various accessories some years ago, but it was a commercial flop. I very much hope D&D LEGO fares better.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It may be a weird ask, but I hope it's got yellows and not fleshies. The more these sets can integrate with general LEGO products the more freedom you have in custom campaigns. Whatever the case I'm worried about this line. I've already got my budget and space planned out for my purchases this half of the year, I don't want another theme to obsessively collect!

Dragonlance. That's a name I haven't heard for a long, long time. Fun books.

I remember them as being set apart from the usual serial sappiness so prevalent in fantasy books of that era. In that, I still have them somewhere. Wonder if I could get my boy interested in them?

Gravatar

@StyleCounselor:
The original Chronicles trilogy, I recall, had a somewhat nonsensical plot, but it was written based on an actual campaign module, so that kinda makes sense. Legends, on the other hand, was a thing unto itself.

I was showing my son some of the DC Dragonlance comics the other day. He likes dragon turtles. A Companions and Villains CMF would be amazing. Series 2 could be Legends. Strahd and Soth are connected through Ravenloft, so you never know….

I've been an AFOL over twice as long as I've played D&D, so when our group got into the game, I immediately utilized my minifig collection. Nowadays I even build all the monsters out of lego, whereas in the beginning we used a lot of substitutes (like different colored blocks to represent different foes).

I reread the original Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy to my son a few years back. I was scared going in, thinking that my fond 80s nostalgia was going to be crushed by the reality of bad writing. I was pleasantly surprised though! They hold up pretty well. The world-building is fairly generic, but the characters are still great. I love the idea of a CMF series based on those characters. A Raistlin minifig would be amazing. Who knows, Wizards of the Coast did release a new Dragonlance source book last year, so they haven't completely forgotten about the franchise.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disappointed because I can't justify a $360 set, nor can I make space for the sets that tend to come at that price, but I hope others enjoy it!

Those are good but exclusive sets, and not even within everyone’s reach.
Obviously I was speaking about conventional themes.

They are still publishing books but I think the whole saga is expected to wrap in the near future. I haven’t read a new DL novel in years….

By in United States,

@JDawg5:
The writing is good enough that I’ve tried to buy or at least read anything Weis/Hickman have written. The plot feels very much like it was chosen by dart board, just as I’m sure the RPG module it’s based on did. Legends felt more like it was intended to be actual novels. In terms of their writing (and keeping in mind Chronicles was not just the first time they worked together, but also why they even met in the first place), it took them a few tries to really start sticking the landing consistently.

@LDN:
According to Wikipedia, there are over 190 books involving the Dragonlance IP, but it doesn’t clarify if all of those are novels, or if any of them include RPG sourcebooks, cookbooks, reference books, etc. It does list some novels that I’ve never read, since I kinda lost track of what was coming out shortly after buying The Second Generation in hardcover.

By in Greece,

I wish there were less expensive castle or dungeon sets for adults and more low priced for kids.. All this success in sales, that lego has nowadays, is based on the nostalgia of adults, who in their childhood had cheap castle themed sets to play. But in the future, when our children will become adults, there will be no sets to be emotionally connected to and the whole marketing stretegy of expensive nostalgic sets for adults will not work any more. So my opinion is that lego should also make castle themed sets which would be cheap and made for kids . That would be a good investment for keeping selling adult sets in the future.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Darth_Moschonas_:
Right now, there’s a thriving Bionicle community consisting largely of adults who grew up collecting those sets as kids. Few of them are nostalgic for anything System-related, while TLG has shown little interest in catering to the theme that saved the company. Kids who were there for the start of Ninjago are reaching adulthood, and still collecting Ninjago, with no signs of stopping. Adults collect sets like Optimus Prime, the Ecto-1, the DeLorean, the Atari 2600, and the D2C Mario sets because they’re nostalgic for those IPs, not because they grew up playing with sets based on those themes. The kids of today who come back to the fold will seek the themes they play with today, regardless of what those are, and regardless of what other themes are being offered alongside them. Castle would do well in Germany (at least that’s what I hear…repeatedly), but it won’t necessarily be able to compete worldwide with the licensed IP that’s on tap today. And if it’s not competitive in sales, there’s going to be a much smaller pool of adults seeking those sets to reconnect with their childhoods.

Yuuuup, being able to take off armour and weapons in real-time as well as attach equipment is a huge plus. Helps us visualise what our characters are actually doing rather than a painted mini with items I can't change. It will also be useful for the DM to keep track of held items for spellcasters etc.
