Meh. I prefer buying sets in-store, rather than online, even if double VIP points are on offer.
Still waiting on my order from the first of the month.

Good news... you also get double points in store.
Double points without an interesting GWP, is a bit feeble. Quad points on their own might start to be of interest for making a dent in my Lego Exclusive wishlist.
e.g. The £90 10334 Retro Radio would give an extra £4.50 worth of points. A £90 threshold GWP would probably be worth at least double that!
I can't get my order to process.

That would be possible, If there was a LEGO certified store near me, which there isn't. Only three exist in New Zealand and the closest one is 4 hours, so retail it is!
I can get my sets online -30-40% off. Why would I care about points? xD

you wont get that discount on exclusive lego store sets! i'll be buying just them. Such a shame that the delivery truck is out of stock for a few weeks now.. i dont get why they dont restock. But maybe there is a problem with the printer hahah

Indeed.
There used to be a time when 10% off made some exclusive sets on the official LEGO webshop a relatively good deal, especially when it was sometimes combined with two or three GWPs at the same time.
Nowadays most sets' RRPs are so extremely overpriced that even 30 or 40% off don't bring them into reasonable territory, let alone 10% off.
Just for thought, the larger sets from the Stuntz line were offered at 65% (!) off on Amazon recently. These offers were available for almost a week. Usually when there's a relatively attractive offer anywhere it tends to sell out much quicker.
If a set that is worth 80 Euro has an RRP of 200 Euro, what good do 10% in points do? It's laughable.
Do you get x2 points on preorders too?
No gwp (at least in Spain) and x2 points it's a 10% when malls are offering 20% or 30% regularly
Maybe if I see an exclusive set I will pick it (but as compulsive purchase)

I think you got that wong; this works on official stores and not on certified ones. At least that's the way in Spain where only 1 lego store is official and the others are certified stores owned by some Italian company.
Anyway my closest store is a certified one and is also 4 hours away.. I got to visit it once (in fact I went there exactly for that, I had to try the pab wall experience lol)
Methinks I shall wait until later in the week on the slightest chance there may be a GWP forthcoming. If not, then I shall probably pass as I have all the larger sets I'm interested in and my points balance is pretty healthy.
Like others on here, not sure double points alone is going to tempt me to buy anything.

No need to be disappointed about that as they’re only LEGO certified stores so they don’t have the LEGO VIP rewards program anyway, just their own program.

Yes you do.
Why do you even buy it for these insane MSRP prices?

'insane' is a relative term. Given the cost of living here, the cost of a luxury item like a LEGO set compares favourably with other luxuries. Moreover, most of the time I am buying sets alongside GWP offers which just aren't available on other retail sites.
Been waiting for double VIP to cop 80113 Chinese New Year Family Reunion, as it's an exclusive. Only works out at 10% off, but better than nothing.

On a set like that, I'd wait for a decent GWP using the set towards the threshold spend. The extra 5% off which has to be spent on a future order works out at just £4.50.
For those that say that double points are not worth it due to discounts elsewhere, are you referring to sets stocked in local shops? Or do you mean online? I am only interested in the Viking Village and the DnD set. I usually just wait for 2x points since I normally only by the D2C sets. I cannot find the Viking Village cheaper anywhere else, so I wait for 2x points there also.

Try bricklink type 21343 at search box above, I see about 8 sets I think under $100... Not sure shipping cost or if free... Brand new and sealed ect..
I would give that a look or try. Cheaper than x2 points I think
If don't mind used I see one $80
Viking Village Fully complete with minifigs and instructions, sorry no box.
This seems like a good time to (pre) order 42182.
As is usual, I have a large PaB list of parts on my bag which is waiting for either (1) a GWP or (2) double VIP. So I'll definitely order the parts but the lunar rover may have to wait to cover for a GWP threshold later on.
Anyone expecting 10332 to get a better discount? Wait for a GWP that I can sell?

I don't really ever have enough to buy to reach the GWP threshholds, and GWPs don't entice me that much either. Most of the ones I have are just sitting MISB in storage.
Let's hand out that Sabre Island GWP and you have my wallet.

Durr. Not sure why I did not think of BL for that set. Thanks for the reminder.
It is laughable when people talk as if everything can be obtained at 20 - 50% discount. Obviously a lot of sets can, but a lot can't. There are many sets that will never be available on the open market (not legally anyway).
Even with non D2C sets a lot of the more popular ones aren't discounted for several months. Pay a bit extra to get a set earlier, or wait a couple of months for a discount (Some will even pay £18 extra for express delivery to get a set a day or 2 earlier!). You pays your money and you takes your choice.
So, anybody got an Eiffel Tower for under £250... Cash waiting... Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more.

Cheapest I saw so far is 199
I am still waiting for a decent GWP to buy it.
@sjr60 You have to be a bit lucky with.
Standard sets you can get 20-30% discount, higher depend on luck.
Exclusives is completely random and depends on the retail that has a licence to sell

PPP is a totally meaningless metric. Take the Eiffel Tower. Over a quarter of its pieces are 1x1s that are worth about a cent each new on Bricklink. Just because a set has a PPP of under 10 cents doesn't make it good value. Plus there are plenty of sets with a PPP of up to 40 Cents.
Also, in order to quality for the double points you have to buy from LEGO directly, while most sets (at least from where I am commenting) can be bought elsewhere for better discounts than 10%.
Unless a double Insider points period coincides with attractive GWPs, I wouldn't dream of buying directly from LEGO.

I think most people take that as read, which is why discussions about Insider points and GWPs normally start off about D2C sets (which are, by definition, not available from 3rd party retailers) but get diverted to non D2C sets so that people can get on their favorite hobbyhorse of how they get everything cheaper.

No need to divert since (at least over here) almost all D2C sets are also available from several other retailers. Smyths Toys, JB Spielwaren, Müller, Galeria, etc.

They're not Direct to Customer sets then... That's like describing a red car as blue! Obviously a lot of Lego exclusive sets end up being available in selected independent retailers but they can't be described as D2C
Yeah, I rather wait for the Jules Verne GWP which is the only thing of worth LEGO has to offer as an incentive to buy from their website.
'cause otherwise it's just better to wait for Amazon to stock the sets and they'll soon enough be at least 20% off which is 4X VIP points.

That is the point about planning future purchases and not buying straight away if you don't mind waiting for a better promo to come along.

Yeah, totally agree, except of course for Lego exclusive sets, still worth it to get a 10% discount if you can't find them anywhere else...
