The Simpsons LEGO episode airs this weekend
Posted by Huw,
Unless you've had your head in the sand for the last couple of months, you probably know that this weekend's Simpsons episode in the USA is a special LEGO-themed one called 'Brick Like Me'. You won't have read about it here though: I've resisted mentioning it here, but in order to stem the tide of emails about it, I will do so now :-)
It's the 550th episode, series 25, episode 20 and is airing in the USA on Sunday evening. In the UK, Sky 1 is showing s25 episodes 5 and 6 this week so we have a while to wait before it airs here.

kids are going to love it.......... and me ;-)
I've found it odd since seeing advertisements for this episode that the characters are depicted with the classic LEGO head shape instead of the actual products' molded heads. I just seems like an odd choice.
The only bit I noticed of interest was the original LEGO pull-along wooden duck set in the stained glass of the church window. (Although (a) their original church didn't have any round windows, and (b) they couldn't be bothered to draw the pins or tubes on the underside of the roof bricks).
Creepy...
The minifigs need to look like a good representation of the cartoon characters.
If the cartoon characters looked like the minifigs, then they wouldn't look different enough to be Lego versions of them.
Or something like that.
Hopefully they release this episode on DVD by itself.
I thought the same as @ericjohn about how they used normal minifig heads. I wonder if somehow the moulded heads will be part of the show's resolution.
Easier to animate a flat surface than 3D
I had read something (I will post it if I find it) that the idea for this has been in the works for years. They might have used the regular heads instead of the way that the minifigs look because that is the way that they were going to look at the time.
I wonder if they will return to Blockoland in this episode
I have to say, and maybe I am in the minority, but I would be buying all the Simpson Minifigures if they looked like they do in the TV episode and not like they were created.
As they are, I am not going to buy any of them.
Love how they did all the hair in the TV show!
I love how that guy in the toystore says "always good to meet a fellow AMFAP - Adult Male Fan Of Princesses" Homer: "it's for my daughter!" guy: "It is always for the daughter..."
That's just definitely an easter egg to represent AFOLs
I guess I've had my head in the sand for the last few months...
Anyway, I did find the AMFAP exchange mildly amusing but other than that I just don't see a reason to watch this at all. Hopefully the Simpson's fans enjoy it, though.
First let me get my obligatory "Simpsons is terrible now, go read the Dead Homer Society http://deadhomersociety.com/ blah blah blah" out of the way.
As far as the look, I'm honestly not sure which I prefer. It definitely makes sense that animating flat is easier and they probably didn't have the minifigs fully designed by the time this started animating, so WHY they are different isn't a surprise.
Wonder if any of the locales represented in the episode would be showing up in the coming sets. It would be a great time to have an announcement for the sets, lets hope.
Anyway, looks cute, but I probably won't watch it, unless on Hulu at some point. I basically never watch broadcast TV anymore.
DanRSL - Simpsons episodes are on Hulu the day after they air.
When will it air in nz?
So Fox this weekend, Sky sometime later this year... that means Channel 4 should get it late 2018?
Can't wait.
I have to say, the latest series of the Simpsons has been awful so far, but from the trailers this is looking as though it will be excellent!
I HATE THAT SHOW!!!
THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RUDE!
Simpsons are so 90's. And unlike something things, they certainly haven't gotten better with age.
Did anyone else notice the Model Team 5542 Black Thunder helicopter from 1998?
@Bricklover2013: Geez... A annoying soccer mum... The Simpsons humor has toned down a lot since you last watched it i expect. Family Guy and South Park make The Simpsons look like a kids show. Times have changed since you have last seen it.
At my local mastermind, i picked up a Simpsons mystery pack and i got Lisa!
Oh, BTW, I live in Newmarket.
Was it any good?
Yes Huw, it was very good.
The episode was surprisingly good for a LEGO/Simpsons crossover from the perspective of a non-Simpsons fan. It was filled with clever LEGO, AFOL and other adult in-joke Easter egg style references. I was quite impressed by it overall.
Thanks -- I'll be sure to watch it when it airs here then...
watched it online and have to say probably one of the best simpson episodes of at least the past 10ish years,, lots of jokes aimed at AFOLs
It was a great epsiode with lot of inside jokes. Sometimes it goes so fast I will must watch it twice.
Is the 'Kids-jail' the next set of Lego? It will be a great set...!
I want to see this episode!!
Ok I saw this episode I thought it was pretty good. There were a lot of cheep funny jokes. I hope the release the mini Springfield shown throughout the episode or at least something. Just in case if you want to know the ending *spoiler alert* its all during homer's blackout at the legofest.
Yes! now i have Lisa and Chief Wiggum!
If it weren't for the LEGO theme, this would have been another sub-par episode for me. I laughed two, maybe three times. The reference to The Lego Movie was a good one.
BUT! It is worth watching for all of the Lego references. They did a decent job at "Legoizing" everything. The strange reference was the love machine at Moe's Tavern, which had weird descriptions of bricks, something like "1x2 flat." FLAT? I'm guessing they meant plate, but hey, it's a minor thing in the background that most people wouldn't notice or care about.
First of all the character design is alittle debatable. As physical minifigures TLG wanted to make them as real as the characters, but the cartoon version try to make them more like normal minifigures with exchangeable headpiece. I wish the actual minifigures could take have the advantages from both versions: making the cartoon version figures longer heads, real noses, and this would be perfect.
Plot part: the original part just began like TLM: a basement where a parent and a child share their brick interest. I guess some FOLs might not be happy to see Lisa's "dark age"--- she literally loses some interests in bricks temporarily and turns her attention to novels and movies. Lisa plays the role mostly because her elder brother doesn't play such kind of constructive thing. It's mostly due to the fact brick toy isn't a major part of Simpsons so it only exists in this episode instead of making Lisa go further (oh, but it would cost much more than raising a pony). But better than nothing, it at least reminds some parents that girls play bricks too and how they should support their kids' interests.
Maybe Lisa would be back to bricks again if Hu... I mean that Survival Games could be one of the new LEGO licensed theme, and I'd totally support this. Also this episode ironically introduces a new castle set and a Springfield Elementary set, which are both in FOLs' dream but not in LEGO's schedule. Not to mention those non-physical Simpsons characters. D'oh!!
Wish that this episode is for testing the targeted audience in order to make more sets. If it's just a mini commercial for the single CMF series, it's just a totally wrong move for TLC.
Oh and weirdly, even though Millhouse plays more bricks than Bart in their real life, it looks like Bart deserves the Master Builder title more than him.
A pointless, boring episode with no story line, jokes, or soul. Simply horrible. I now feel dirty for having watched it. Oh well.
Mind you, I used to be a huge Simpsons fan. I probably still know much of the first six seasons by heart, to this day. How unbearable the show has since become. Sic transit gloria mundi.
Never heard of @DanRSL's link before, but it's basically precisely right. Glad to see I'm not alone.
Go watch The LEGO Movie instead. Orders of magnitude better than this dreck, in every regard and by any metric.
