Images of 42174 Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Racing Yacht have been published by German retailer Lucky Bricks.

This unexpected Technic set contains 962 pieces and costs €119.99, so it is evidently much bigger than 42074 Racing Yacht from 2018.

We can expect more images and information later today, but for now, you can view the box images below...

Are you impressed with this set and are you glad to see more unusual Technic vehicles? Let us know in the comments.

By in United States,

The model seems nice but that stand is kinda ugly looking.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Holy moly! Looks bigger than I first thought (that's what she said).
Anyway, it's a pleasure to have some boats in the portfolio

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

120€ for 962 pieces?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Hmm... next cancellation due to late re-evalulation of the (needless) license?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

ummmm ... nic(h)e.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Pneumatics? Where, for what?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Should sell well in New Zealand I guess.

Gravatar
By in France,

This one will be tough to place on a shelf, it's insanely tall

Well done on dropping the partnership with Shell, TLG. Are you sure these are the people you want to get in bed with instead, though?

First NEOM, now this."

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Which makes the ending of the partnership with Shell, or the cancelation of the Osprey, seem even more hypocritical.

By in Spain,

TLG giving visibility to Emirates? No, thanks.

By in Poland,

imo very expensive, where the volume of the sets are two vinyl sails and there is no so much of the craft beyond them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

IMHO not an ideal subject for Technic, since 90% of the model's size is inert printed vinyl specific to the model, rather than generic modular brick. A modern racing yacht (a hydrofoil-supported monohull with wingsail, a so-called "foiler") *has* interesting mechanical functions, but they're concentrated in the hull. See: https://theconversation.com/sail-gp-how-do-supercharged-racing-yachts-go-so-fast-an-engineer-explains-121902

(Probably a common opinion: It's only proper Technic if it has rotating parts: propellors, or wheels, or internal mechanisms like conveyor belts that roll on wheels. Discuss.)

To supply some background on @Ridgeheart 's misgivings: The America's Cup yacht race has been held since 1851, on no fixed schedule, each time between two clubs: the defender and a single challenger. The defending clubs have been, counting backwards, Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Golden Gate Yacht Club (USA), Societe Nautique de Geneve (Switzerland), San Diego Yacht Club (USA), Royal Perth Yacht Club (Australia). There are currently six clubs operating "AC75"-class boats (for some specs, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC75 ). So unlike Formula One motor racing, with ten teams on the track whose cars differ mainly in livery, TLG has a more limited choice of vehicles to represent, and the defender is the most obvious choice.

Each race cycle involves several preliminary regattas prior to the final race, and the venues are subject to change. For the 37th cycle ("AC37") during 2023-24, Jeddah in Saudia Arabia was one of three preliminary sites (the others being Vilanova i la Geltrú and Barcelona in Spain). The final race will also be in Barcelona, in October (which presumably informs the release date of this model). This model is an AC75, whereas the Jeddah race used an earlier AC40 boat.

The New Zealand yacht has been sponsored by Emirates since 2021. Emirates is the flag airline of Dubai (whereas Abu Dhabi has Etihad; there are two flag carriers in the United Arab Emirates, which is a federation of seven). The UAE has its own questionable human rights record, but not to Saudi Arabia's level.

Interested in seeing more pneumatic functions. Not with this thing, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, LEGO wants me to purchase a set, at an inflated price, so I can display advertisements for Emirates, Omega, and other corporations printed on the set. Yes, same deal with other 'licensed' sets,; in this case the advertising is the key visual impact when the set is on display.

I will buy it if Emirates pays me $10 month for showing their advertisements.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This seems to be a pretty static Technic set. Are the pneumatics for blowing smoke up certain areas??

Gravatar
By in France,

Those boats are masterpieces IRL, and I wish Lego form too. Beautiful.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

At last! LEGO have finally come up with a sailboat model showing way better proportions between mast and hull lengths. Now, THIS is a racer. Love it.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm not that much into boats, can't do anything useful with those sail parts then.
For me 120 euros is way too expensive for what I would get from it

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Pneumatic functions in a *sail* boat??????

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Yay, New Zealand!!!

Is this the first Lego set to be focused on something from NZ?

I'm a patriot, so I wanna pick this up but I just don't have the $$$$!

Gravatar
By in Colombia,

Dammit, I was already wondering why TLG is not coming up with a modern sailing yacht like e.g. the IMCOAs from the Vendee Globe. But they choosed this one with emirates?! I can understand that the Americas Cup is more popular but they could have chosen a race boat with less ads...

The kakapo says hello!

Seriously, seeing pictures of this was bizarre. For context, the America’s Cup is a huge deal here, and I never, ever thought that the Team New Zealand AC75 would become a Lego set. Wild!

The entire Lord of the Rings theme says hello! :o)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't have a huge amount of interest in this one (I'd rather have 42074, even if it's smaller), but I sort of hope it gets a Brickset review, just to see what the pneumatic functions are.

Low interest expected in New Zealand
Historically teams defend the cup in their home country.
This time around "Team New Zealand" have sold out and holding finals in country / venue that pays the most money for hosting rights.

No. There is also 910017 Kakapo.

I'm asking a serious question. The Kakapo doesn't really count, as it's from BDP.

Does it float? At least the earlier set floats. Simply sitting on my shelf makes this less interesting

Gravatar

Fantastic, day one purchase for me :)

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

It's nice to see other Technic sets that are not only cars. It is sad to see this one doesn't have a lot of functions.

Wouldn’t it need a keel to keep from tipping over?

Gravatar

I'm wondering if this might pair quite well with the expected Jaws set... or at least the shark :-)

I guess the pneumatcs are supposed to rock the boat from left to right. Hence the big stand.

It's a decent shot across the bow, but to me this is dead in the water.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As for the pneumatics, isn't it just to blow some wind in the sails?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Here's another comment to add to the questionable choice of partnering with a company that is sponsored by the UAE.

In all fairness, I've also be skeptical any country that's US based at the moment too, they're all charlatans.

Here's an idea: why don't they just make more unlicensed sets! This could have just been a normal sailboat without all the stickered advertising.

By in Canada,

The price is a bit steep for something coated in advertisements, but I'm a sucker for any sets with sails.
