By in United Kingdom,

Why does Moana have a tanning bed?
And is the pig about to climb in there with her?

I think, it's MRI, and the pig is a doctor. Don't you see a white coat?

By in United Kingdom,

Nice sail. Everything else looks a bit boxy.

By in France,

The boat having an interior is nice, but it's quite blocky (and certainly not a canoe). The micro-doll set is cute, it's a nice Polly Pocket-ish idea to give kids a more substantial playset on a budget, it's something they should definitely expand on as opposed to the previously gimmicky and overpriced micro-doll book sets.

By in United Kingdom,

I think you don't get much for £55 these days.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Reminds me of the Kon-Tiki!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That is amazingly expensive for a boat!

By in United Kingdom,

Gonna be honest, I found the first Moana to be pretty mediocre and forgettable (not bad, by any means). Only thing I really remember is the crab guy, and that's not even because of the movie ;)

Not every product is going to be for everyone and that's okay. There's tens of thousands of kids who'll be thrilled with this.

Moana is a movie that exists I guess, goodnight tri-state area?
(Nah but Moana was genuinely the best CGI Disney film so far IMO and I understand why they're making a sequel)

Ah okay sorry. too many people seem to hold these views unironically and I think it's good for us to remember that toys are toys.

By in Germany,

I always love the new hair pieces. Simea/Moni with the curly ponytail piece is another great addition although I struggle to come up with characters yet that could utilize this piece. I want to say Padmé Amidala but I can't remember which outfit makes me think that.

By in Italy,

In Italy the Movie is not called Moana.
It's called Oceania.
Because in the 90's there was an extremely famous porn star called Moana.

Just want to share it with the international community

Gravatar
By in United States,

They look good, but... where Maui?

Man, -I- love the original. The songs are bangers, don't @ me."

In Poland, Vaiana. Yeah, I heard about this thing.

By in United Kingdom,

Was hoping we'd get some better sets, but then, movie obvious not being out yet, can't really judge how accurate they are.

Loved the first Moana movie. Just hope second one has a song as good as 'You're Welcome' in it.

By in United States,

They look okay, but where is Maui? I mean he was the only reason I watched the movie in the first place. (Moana is now probably my favorite animated Disney movie that's not from Pixar) I had the original set with Maui, but sold it a while back. A week after I sold it I started regretting that decision... :(

By in United States,

New hair mold(s)!!! The canoe build looks decent but $60 is a rough price. I like the interior, though. The lack of Maui is disappointing :(

I agree it's not "a small, light, narrow boat, pointed at both ends and moved using a paddle" (Cambridge) but that definition seems limited to riverine and near-shore boats, notably of the Americas (the term derives from the natives encountered by Columbus). It doesn't account for the deep-water nautical innovations of Polynesia, commonly designated in English as (depending on the combination of features and function) outrigger canoes, multi-hull sailing canoes, and seafaring canoes. (Presumably the Polynesian languages have specialized terminology.)

You are correct about the crowd going mild. Lego's playing it too safe when it comes to these sets.

It's a Millennium Falcon-style escape pod.

By in France,

The island fun set is perfect for a gift, good price and fun to play with with the 2 sisters and the funny mecanism, it's going to be a hit for the target audience.
The boat is a bit expensive but then again it does look cool and you get new characters from the movie so that's pretty cool
My daughter is already asking us when the movie is out and she would love these sets !

By in United States,

I just finished the LEGO Inside Tour 7, and I actually got the notification for this article while the designer of 43260 Moana's Island Fun (Lisa Waggner) was giving her designer presentation! She was so excited that the sets had been officially announced that morning, and that it was her first released set.

@HJB2810:
I'd assume that's meant to be a shelter for whoever is on watch, so they can react quickly in an emergency. The interior space would be where everyone else sleeps, and supplies are stored.

@Pollywanna:
Certainly is a Polynesian double-hulled canoe. Outrigger canoes were used for local travel, and this style was used to navigate around the Polynesian triangle, which is the area located between Hawaii, Easter Island, and New Zealand.

@Anonym:
The simple purple dress worn during the battle when they return to Naboo is the only one I can think of where she has such a normal hairdo. Even the outfit worn on Tattooine had a pretty involved ponytail.

@Lexomatic:
None of the cultures that developed canoes ever called them canoes. That's an English adaptation of a French word that's based on a word from the Saint-Lawrence Iriquois. Basically all it needs to be to qualify as a canoe is that it has to be pointed at both ends (no transoms) and have a narrow hull that sits low in the water. In the UK, they count kayaks as canoes, while the US does not. Two traditional names I was able to find were Umiak (used in the Boreal regions ranging from eastern Russia to Greenland) and waka (used in New Zealand).

@Ridgeheart:
So apparently the other Moana's story had a proper villain, unlike the first Disney Moana film?

"I'll admit it, I did get curious and had a look into Italian Moana's life. Apparently, while making some 100 blue movies, she also worked as a TV-presenter for kids' shows and she may have been a spy for the KGB, leading to an early death through polonium-poisoning. Following her death, she was given a homily by the Archbishop of Naples.

Well, that escalated quickly. Maybe Disney really did make their movies about the wrong Moana after all."

They definitely made the *childrens* movies about the right Moana
