Blocks Magazine: more info
Posted by Huw,
Here's a page spread from the magazine, featuring an interview with Peter Reid, creator of the Exo-Suit.
Mark, the editor, has been reading your comments to yesterday's article and has provided this information:
"The magazine isn't trying to compete with websites: the intention is to bring a lot of content together in one place and to make it available to a whole new audience. We hope to be able to deliver a lot of exclusive content not seen on the 'net, too.
"The first issue contains features on collecting, a fun feature on choosing the right LEGO for you and there's also very fun challenge feature which we hope fans will take us on at in the future."
"The magazine has 132 pages, with very few ads, so that's a lot of content, and it's been structured so that newcomers, intermediates and pros can all get something from it: we have tried to ensure there are entry points for all levels.
"The frequency of publication, and indeed whether this is more than just a one-off, very much depends on the fans' response to this first issue. That's one reason we have no website at the moment. I will however be starting a Facebook page this weekend to help people connect with us. The publisher is Blockhead media who produce Practical Performance Car and a number of other titles."
So, it sounds as if it's in our interests to go out and buy it and ensure it's a success so we see more issues in the future. As for the price, £5.99 seems pretty reasonable to me for such a specialist publication. BrickJournal is $8.95, which is about the same, for just 80 pages, and nobody moans about the price of it.

I also think £5.99 is fair, but I think the 'free' information on the internet has spoiled people and they don't realise what they are paying for.
I shall be getting it as I am really interested to see what its like and the price is reasonable I think. Although my wife did ask isnt there a free gift for that price :)
I was one of those querying content yesterday, but it should be tempered with two quantifying statements:
1. Magazines and books are much easier to show non-FOL friends something cool in rather than "let me search through the last week of articles on site x so I can find that link to that thing......"
2. No internet on the toilet ;)
^ @Deltron - get yourself an ipad/tablet computer :-P
Conveniently, my mum is travelling to the UK later this month, so I've asked her to try to pick up a copy for me. Thanks mum! :-)
I definitely buy a copy. Reading stuff on the web is great, for sure. And free. But there are times when sitting on the sofa with a book/magazine is just perfect.
And having in-depth original content rather than just rehashed stuff would also make it a must-have.
Is it out on the shelves yet? I trundled along to WHSmith in Waverly Station today and couldn't find it for sale.
Next Wednesday.
^ Thursday, surely Huw? The press release said the 19th. Wouldn't want DougTemplar making a special trip and being disappointed ;)
Ah yes, right you are...
I hope Eason in Ireland will be stocking this.
Will it come with the comic strip at the end like Brickjournal does?
