2025 polybags revealed!
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Fifteen 'polybags' slated for release early next year have been revealed via the German retailer website WAVE Distribution.
The FSC declaration on the back of the packs reveals that they are in fact made of paper, furthering LEGO's goal of removing single use plastics from its packaging.
Perhaps the most interesting of them all is 30701 Field Flowers, which brings the Botanical Collection range to a 'polybag' form for the first time. The others cover a wide variety of themes, and can be viewed after the break.
Are you a polybag collector? Will you continue to collect these?

400+ Animal Crossing characters and they are already reusing the same ones?
I think the term polybag no longer applies as these are clearly paper bags.
Come on Lego... make them available from Lego.com.
How much warehouse space would a years worth of polybags take!
My grand-daughter will love the bee one. Shame we don't have more new DUPLO poly/paper bags coming out. Seems to have been quite a while since we had some fresh small DUPLO sets.

That is only speculation on our part at the moment: they certainly have a different form factor which suggests a change to the packaging but we won't know until they've been found in the wild.
If it is paper bags instead of the poly-bags, I wonder if they'll be similar to the magazine gift paper bags, or the new paper bags inside the bigger set boxes? Hopefully the latter as it seems tougher material.
As for these sets, love the little science space mech suit of 30694, but thats my weakness for mechs talking. And the field flowers dandelion is also amazingly well done. Love the NPU of the clear studs for the 'tufts'.
The torso for this version of Julian is a lot less interesting than his birthday party set, but I suppose it offers a cheaper way to get the character now.
That Sonic one looks good!
I wonder where these will show up. Magazine covermounts? GWP? Randomly in shops if you’re very, very lucky? (Our local in the UK now sells a very small number of them.) My household would buy the Dreamzzz bag, toucan and flowers like a shot if they were available today.
That mini technic loader is adorable. Also great to see City Space continuing!
NPU in 30701 to create a dandelion

The size of the bags is very slightly smaller than current polybags but a bit thicker.
Current polybags (according to LEGO) measure 17cm x 19.5cm x 1.5cm.
New ones measure 17cm x 18cm x 3cm (Duplo are a bit bigger and thicker).
The new ones also weigh about 15g more on average than the current ones, which makes me think that a move to a slightly thicker and stronger paper is likely.
They will all be available (and another Friends one which is not mentioned above) from brickabrac.co.uk on January 1st.
The price will still be £3.49 or 3 for £10.
So, from now, the Icons' Botanical Collection subtheme and the yellow banded "Creator" botanical sets become a separate theme, Botanicals? I really like 30701 Field Flowers. The 30688 toucan also looks good and the 30686 Duplo is cute. Does 30694 just complete the Space line or does it imply that it will continue?

I suspect the issue is they don't want customers creeping over the threshold on special offers (like GWPs) which would be easier with more cheap sets available. The thresholds for the offers are set in whole pounds/dollars/euros where as the price for sets are set with fractions of pounds/dollars/euros forcing customers to find additional purchases.
Most of these builds seem rather small - are polybags getting smaller? Not sure these justify the price or the effort in trying to find them.

You'll have my order ASAP :-)
The Minecraft one IS SO BAD compared to previous years! D:
But the Sonic one, and the Botanical one are <3
There are some decent looking sets in this lot. Like the mech, monster truck & skid steer loader.
30701 Field Flowers or as I'd call them "weeds".

Plenty of keychains for that!
OH MY GOD SKY CHASE ZONE YESSS!
This is such a solid wave of polybags, I may have to scout out most of them!
no SW and Marvel?

30707 - Venom's Museum Robbery released on February 1st
30708 - Mini Millennium Falcon released on March 1st.
A Speed Champions Ferrari and a Super Mario polybag will also be released on March 1st.
There is no comedy quite like forced Brickset comedy

"The Party Animals polybag appears to hail the inglorious return of Geoffrey the Toys-R-Us Nightmare Giraffe. There have been several attempts at containing that horrifying visage in Lego-format, none of them succesful.
I'm a bit disappointed with the Space-polybag - I mean, it's not bad, but is this really how we're ending that big Year Of Space? We haven't had much of it in recent months, and then only this limp-wristed offering? Couldn't you have just called my mom fat instead?
I like the Botanicals-line, and I like the polybag just fine, but I do wonder about the legality of the flower-stems-in-nipple-piece-technique. I feel like someone ought to go to Lego-jail for that.
The Technic-set is a delight. 10/10, no comments.
The Friends-set is a crime waiting to happen, as it contains both Nova and an as of yet unmauled puppy. I fully expect to see that puppy show up again in a 2025 Friend-set, painted yellow and with at least half of its torso missing."
One assumes you will have a starring role as you appear to be one sick puppy.......

I'm so happy your website exists! So much better than buying from scalpers on eBay :)
Gotta get myself that Toucan, the Space Science Mech, the Mini Ninja Combo Mech and the Skid-Steer Loader! The latter doesn't exactly look like the greatest Technic polybag ever, and certainly not on the same level as the 30682 Perseverance I unfortunately still haven't got my hands on yet, but I can still appreciate those.
The others seem fine fore what they are, though I can't shake the feeling that City police water scooter looks rather familiar.

It's paper, no doubt... Paperbags?!?
30699 looks a lot like a tiny Optimus Prime with a bit different color scheme. I always preferred the Duel Packs like 30650 but this might be the first Ninjago Polybag without figures that I'll get anyway.

That's true but those are keychains rather than cheap sets. I'm happy to buy something less than optimal to get me over a GWP threshold but there are limits.
Probably not a wrinkly plastic bag but a creased/crumpled cardboard box
30686
I think Lego is trying to explain to us where babies come from...
30694 That polybag set kinda reminds me of mixels.
Glad to finally have our first look at the next Dreamzzz January wave! Hopefully it's just a filler so we get something truly extraordinary in August.
And I think it's good that LEGO is being more environmentally conscious by switching to paper bags! Now do it for CMFs

Oh, that makes me really interested in the Ninjago combo mech for next year! One jet for Sora, Riyu himself(?), a car for Pixal and only the base mech for Zane seems to be missing. Still, cool to see the polybag version of this so early.
Also, that city space mech is pretty adorable. :)
Dreamzzz controller is so cool.
The space mech one is a must have!
I wonder if this means space is continuing.

My first thought was boxes with large 'facade' type front panels, similar to the CMF ones, I don't know why. Something about the shape of the images and the hanging hole
I wonder if North America will FINALLY get paper bags, Lego's really been dragging their feet here (I don't think I've seen a single mention of paper bags this side of the Atlantic).
Also: another new flower piece in 30701 , a 2x2 flower with a jumper stud in yellow. And a yarn ball in 30697 .
A polybag Botanicals set? Yes please! Such a great theme.
Three here, maybe more, I hope to get. I really wish polybags would actually be sold on Lego.com. They're often hard to locate, and I sure as heck am not store hopping to pray to find them somewhere in real world.
Balkiry! An enemy first introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Sky Chase Zone, which was also the first appearance of the Tornado biplane, and seen occasionally since then in similar aerial settings, making 30704 a good companion set for 76991.
The skid steer loader looks cool! Nice to see TLG sticking with the JCB/Volvo one-arm design from 42116.
Yeah, give me that Mecha.
A nice spread here, several of those go straight on the wanted list!
Field Flowers are a standout, both as a build and as a parts pack.
The Field Flowers are delightful! The "Botanicals" logotype is nice, too. Glad to see the subtheme carrying on like this.
Really tempting to blow the dandelion to see if you can tell the time with it!
Where is the Harry Potter poly ?
Has anyone ever seen a police water scooter? (other than the many iterations in Lego form)
EDIT: i googled it, apparently they do exist. (In a LOT of countries)
I take the existence of the space polybag as confirmation that there are more space sets coming next year, and that's excellent! Although I haven't yet bought everything from this year - but I probably will!
I don't collect polybags, mainly because they aren't widely available in New Zealand.
The only ones that actually look great are the Sonic, City Botanical and Ninjago ones. And I don't even collect those themes. Me as a Ninjago fan hasn't picked up a set for a couple of years. The only one I might pick up is the Dreamzz polybag. that one is the best looking in my opinion.
WAIT!
DOES THIS MEAN WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER BIG NINJAGO MEGAZORD TO GO WITH THE POLYBAG?
This is everything I've ever wanted!

Clear paper bags? I'll assume that was said tongue in cheek...
Glad Cinderella has finally been updated to a more accurate strawberry-blonde hair colour. Even mini doll haters will want that to update the minifig in the castle
Anybody knows which shop on Belgium usually has polybags? Colruyt used to have polybags, but haven’t seen them there in past two years

Very sorry.
"Lush Cave Fight"...First: I didn't know a cave could get drunk, Second: How DO you fight a cave (let alone a drunk one...:))
Not overly 'bad', still believing that SPACE (that's how they write it:)) should be it's own thing, not a 'tack-on', but I do like the City stuff. That Sonic set looks fun, same with Minecraft, and other looks good do.
Getting these...tough call: There's an 'increase' in availability via 'Wally-World', 'Superstore' (just saw they're starting to carry them), TRU (one an hour-ish away from me), and...Dollaramas here in Canada seem to start carrying them about a half-year ago, so...it's more of a 'timing thing' really...
Well, Cooper's going to die. He let go of the handlebars on his flying game controller, and doesn't appear to have a parachute. And he's over a chasm of some sort.
@GrizBe:
I'd be more excited if they'd managed to use white jump studs for the tufts. But mostly that's because I'd really like to get white jump studs.
@Rumble_Strike:
I think I'll need to get a few of those for the eyes, assuming they aren't available through OPAB.

Going by the fact that LEGO Star Wars fans will buy anything LEGO throws at them at any price, I guess they deserve the treatment they're getting.
;-)
As for plastic versus paper, the "Polybag" sets of my childhood all came in little cardboard boxes, like my first ever set 886.
@AustinPowers:
If I got that set, it was in 1983, released in 1984.
Still curious IF these will indeed be paper. Personally I would have preferred a return to the very tiny boxes like in the 1990s, but probably the glue is some environmental issue.
Regarding the 'polybag collector' thing - I really understand the motivation here, but really - those things are practically impossible to collect unless you're in the US. Most of them barely show up ever here in Germany (Creator, City, Friends and Technic being a bit more reliable).
@PurpleDave said:
" @AustinPowers :

I got mine as a present for St. Nicolas day (December 6) in 1980. I even have a picture of myself (together with my cousin, who got a Matchbox car instead) from that day where I can be seen holding the little box.
@AustinPowers:
Oh, the individual set came out in 1979. I only mentioned the year because it's a bit ironic that they released the Value Pack one year too late based on the set number it was assigned.
Tukan, flower field and minecraft one is probably the only ones that i will be going for tbh. Others feels boring a bit
Space Science Mech - the ultimate tool for convincing everyone that this grant should be yours.
Man, I can't wait to not be able to find any of these anywhere except the city ones I don't find interesting. I love it when that happens.
The toucan looks excellent to me - all three models in a tiny polybag look great.

Reminds me also of 271610 Mighty Mech Bot but then more developed and newer pieces. (pilot came seperate in the next magazine after that, 271611 Pilot Bot )
Wow, what a great wave! 30688 will go into a great pair with my 30581, 30691 will also do with 30594, 30698 just seems fantastic, of course can't forget about my childhood flowers 30701 and 30710 just seems like a solid Technic poly. Or is it better to say "paper"? On this topic, I'm glad that Lego finally took a big step after a long time of promises, but polybags have already become iconic to me...
I really love polybags, but I have to say other than the botanical one, none of these really do anything for me at all. I don't collect, and am not interested in botanical so that one will likely be a pass for me too, but I do think it is well done.

"400+ Animal Crossing characters and they are already reusing the same ones?"
That's what I thought. I like Julian, but there's lots of characters that use parts that already exist. Stitches could use Maple's head recoloured, or we could get missing parts of "pairs" like the Able Sisters and the Dodo Brothers.
Gotta say I am slightly disappointed that the Animal Crossing polybag is a character that has already been used in an other set. I don't know if this is a licensing thing that they can only use a select number of characters, but with so many AC characters to choose from, it feels like a missed opportunity.
Still hoping and waiting for an Animal Crossing minifig series!
What about the Star wars one?, it was rumored to be a Millennium Falcon
Multiples here that I like, but I'm tempted to get multiples of 30694.

It's perfectly legal; nipple tiles use the same size pin-hole as flowers. Also, as soon as I saw 30697, I thpight, "Nova and an animal? Wonder what @Ridgeheart will have to say about that?"
