LEGO Insiders can accrue double points at LEGO.com from today until the 20th of October.

Placed my order today and just managed to reach the rather high GWP threshold for the bakery. Having accrued quite a pile of over the past year, I used my points to soften the blow - especially after reading on this site about points expiring (Guess I ought to read the 'small print')
Before anyone starts with “the website crashed repeatedly” or “why don’t Lego invest in a good website when they know they’re doing this?”… I went on at midnight, ordered my stuff, got the GWP, no problems at all. Happy.
(And no point anyone whingeing that they didn’t know double points was coming, either!)

What's that about points expiring?

To my knowledge, Points don't individually have an expiry date but instead if you make no purchases from Lego over 18 months all that you have expire. I have points I've been saving for far longer than 18 months still.

What was that about expiring? Was there an article ive missed? Just read some small print which implies if you dont earn or spend points for 18mnths they can remove them, having sent various emails to you. Anyone who buys just once a year would therefore be ok.
I have performance issues with website. Trying to use my VIP points but the specific insider section simply does not load. Lego yet again proved that investing into infrastracture is not a priority. :(
To clarify - I did not realise points had an expiry date at all. I have been saving points for some time and had (up until today) accrued quite a lot. Some of them go back more than 18 months. I only realised they had an expiry date when I read about it on here the other day. It has been a long time since I ordered on the LEGO website with my main account (where the points are accrued) hence my urge to use them today.
While I was thinking about what to get, 71458 went out of stock. Given that it's retiring at the end of the year, is it possible that it will still come back at least as backorder, like 71460 is now, or is it gone for good?

They don't! The 18 months 'expiry' resets every time you earn or redeem points. Order a keyring every 18 months and ALL your points will be there forever!
And a 2x Insider points period is the worst time to use them to claim a discount!
I'm trying now to open the "Choose your discount" menu and all I get is the circle of please stand by. Maybe I won't place any orders then...
The choose your discount won’t load for me all morning. Come on Lego, why is there always a problem…
If (like me) you didn’t realise these poly bags would be available today, you can grab both of them from Brick-a-Brac at the moment. The bakery may be trickier to come by outside of official channels.
Ordered festive stuff that will probably all be discounted on 26th Dec but hey ho!
Got the very nice Bakery GWP and enough double points to take me over the £100 discount threshold, which might just be used for the Botanic Garden in a couple of weeks!

VIP/Insiders points expire after around 1-2 years from the date of obtaining them. I found out the hard way...

Is it as others have said of if keep obtaining them every 18 months they stick around? Or is it after 2 years of unuse they are gone even if the account I still active?
Got a fair amount of points that I have not yet decided what to do with and would rather not lose them

This is a Direct quote copied from the Lego website FAQs
"LEGO® Insiders points will only expire if you stop using your account for 18 months. Anytime you earn or redeem points, the timer resets and you’ll get another 18 months to use them.
When you’re close to losing your points, we’ll send you an email at the address linked to your account."
As said earlier, I have points from as far back as February 2021, which is the last time I used what I'd saved, well over 18 months
As usual, comments section posts are a prime source of bullshit. Don't take any notice.

Exactly. You won't get double points over redeeming points you have previously gathered, but only over the leftover amount you pay with actual money.
Also, you don't have to order from the LEGO website to assure you keep your Insiders points. You can also go to the LEGO Store and buy a few minifigs. Purchases there will also add points. Or just spend the Insiders points.

In hindsight, copying the link probably would have been easier than copying the text itself

Quite... It's not unusual for people to edit a 'quote' to suit their own agenda!
I know someone who got an 18 month prison sentence for not using their points quickly enough.
Well it was definitely something about 18 months Inside.
As many have stated here, LEGO Insiders points do not expire (given you make a purchase every 18 months).
However, the discount codes you convert Insiders points to, do have a 60 days expiry date.
Therefore you should only convert your points to a discount code when you actually are about to make a purchase.
PS. I think I saw somewhere that LEGO is experimenting to stop using the discount codes. Instead you can just use all/part of your insiders points when making a purchase. How many is fully up to you. I understand they are currently testing this in the UK, but I hope they roll this out soon.

Thank you
I guess Despicable Me 4 is a videogame now?
I didn't see this mentioned elsewhere, but on the offers page, insiders members can get 71374 for $215.99 and 76405 for $399.99. (at least on the US site)

Ah yes, quite a few sets in the UK are now on sale, up to 40% off, most retiring soon.
It doesn’t even need to be a purchase!
LEGO employee here, even something as simple as scanning an instruction manual or filling out a survey on the LEGO website works! As long as there’s activity on the account involving points, it stays active for another 18 months.
An advantage of shopping in store is employees can use any denomination of your points, as long as it exceeds 5$, compared to the website which uses intervals of 5$.

I agree. However, I only buy from Lego.com for D2C sets only (or parts), and only on 2x point weeks. That means I collect points ad infinitum and never spend them, or I only redeem points on 2x weeks. If I spend $100 worth of points on a 2x week, I missed out on $10 of points, but I still avoided spending $100. That is a better trade to me.

The selection in Canada is nowhere near as good - but then again it depends what you are into...
I too had the problem of "Choose your discount" not loading last night. Gave up, hoping it'd be fixed by morning and it was. Went halfsies with my kiddo on 10323, should be a lot of fun. Hope everyone enjoys their new stuff!
the insiders discount code section finally worked. Yes I'm missing out on a few extra double points by getting $20 off but at this moment I'd rather save $20 than get an extra $1 in reward points for down the road.

Yes, always the wrong sets in the wrong country... might have got Hokusai – The Great Wave if I'd been in Aus!
Picked-up two 80113 at 30% off ($90 ea), plus 40751 that I’ve wanted for awhile. Total $201, so I qualify for the bakery 40696 and 2x vip. Not too shabby.
I have no interest whatsoever in the bakery (even though I think it is one on the best of the series) but I will end up getting it anyway. I ordered 71741 before it goes out of production. 80113 is also quite tempting, maybe at the black Friday double points if there are still some left.

Nice... hopefully CNY 2025 should be revealed early ln November!
Picked up the NES with a discount (US) on backorder.
Thanks for all the relevant info posted on here. FWIW, the original issue with the 'expiry' of points came to my attention on 11th October in an article about double points coming soon. Won't be purchasing any useless keyrings or travelling for miles to the only 2 stores in the country to keep my points 'alive' but at least I know now what the pitfalls are - so thanks to all who helped with this.
I'm glad I didn't place an order as soon as double points went live night before last. I decided to wait and take my time and was rewarded yesterday morning to find that Family Reunion had been reduced in price. I purposely held off buying it because the past few years the CNY sets always got price reductions toward the end of the year so I was waiting for it this time. My patience was rewarded. Also saw posted in another forum that they've fixed the issues with standard part orders not qualifying for GWP'S so I put enough in my cart to qualify for an additional Bakery. Hoping to use that to trade for an Alpine Houses of the World if someone in my LUG is interested.
I have collected more Lego than I care to admit to. Many times, I have convinced myself that the gifts and points made it "worth it". But, I am really struggling to justify it now. £200 for Medieval Town Square? It looks like two £40 playsets next to each other. I admit, I will continue with the Modular series (even though I skipped the Corner Garage as it looked naff) but other than that... meh... I'll wait for the next re-fresh. Am I alone in this feeling?

Nope. You and I undoubtedly have too much. It's time to spend our hard-earned time and money on other pursuits.
Besides, I already blew money this month on the Barge. The little buildings GWPs don't do it for me, and double points are a joke. The sales are on things I already have or don't want.

I just had a brief look at your collection (I put them in descending order of number of parts and had a look at the first 200). Just WOW! And then I was thinking, if you dismantle them all and you say: "OK, let's build one per day", then this will take you just a little under 7 years!
And then there is the issue of space to put them all... I have a few 'permanent' classic space displays but whenever I built 'Technic', I have only a couple spots for them and to display a new one I have to disassemble an old one.

Yes. I have a problem, and that doesn't even count duplicates/army building and loose parts.
The SW stuff is all on display shelves in my man cave. It does look a bit like a stuffed mess (but, a beautiful one). The HP has almost completely taken over my office.
I routinely take over the main floor of my house for holiday displays. One year, Xmas lasted almost all year. That was bad!
I'm much better, now. I've realized that Mrs.StyleCounselor deserves some time with her house without Lego.
I don't completely disassemble sets/displays. I just take off enough to safely bag them and box them.
My real issue is making enough room in my walk-in attic for the NISB sets. When I moved into my current house in 2014, I was still saving set boxes with the plastic bags inside to 'protect' them. So, it's been a long project (since COVID) to flatten boxes, organize everything, and recycle tons of plastic bags.
Once I finish, the world will be in complete harmony. .... I'm really trying to hurry! But, who wants to spend Lego time organizing boxes?
Don't save set boxes, kids! Without flattening them at least.
