Review: 5009005 Entrance Gate

Posted by ,

Insiders who purchase 21353 The Botanical Garden between the 1st and 7th of November will receive 5009005 Entrance Gate with their order, while stocks last.

The 153-piece set is stylistically similar to the glasshouse, so they should display well together.

Summary

5009005 Entrance Gate, 152 pieces.

A lovely diorama to go with the Botanical Garden

  • Plenty of botanical elements, including new tulips and flower heads
  • None

It comprises a 12x12 patch of garden with a path running along the centre and through a gate. A female gardener, with toolbox and coffee cup, is perhaps arriving for work.

The well-manicured garden is home to a number of plant varieties, some of which make use of new elements: a tulip and the flower head that was first seen in black in Wednesday sets.

There's also a few 1x1 round tiles printed with a four-leaf clover that can be seen in the background of the images below.

Unlike many models, it looks perfectly respectable from the back.

The gardener is attired in brown overalls and Wellington boots and looks happy to be there, ready to tackle whatever the day brings.

Unlike the Cerebro GWP which doesn't really go with the set it comes with, this one complements the Botanical Garden nicely but will look a bit odd plonked next to it on the shelf.

You might therefore want to extend the path and surround it with plant-filled borders to connect the two together, and that should be a lot of fun given the huge variety of botanical elements available nowadays.

21353 The Botanical Garden will be available at LEGO.com from tomorrow, 1st November, priced at £289.99 / $329.99 / €329.99.

I feel this could've worked as a cheap 10 dollar/euro set as well. The botanical parts in here are great, so a bit of a shame you can only get this as a GWP with one really expensive set.

Saw 16x16 and was shocked that it’s that big but it’s actually 12x12 lol

Any GWP should be. It's a real shame that so many amazing sets are locked behind a stupid GWP-wall.

It may even look odd just set up against the Botanical Garden set since that's on baseplates and this is on a plate. I'm planning to build the Garden with a 48x96 base but using plates, so this will still fit in nicely as a side build somehow/where on the same property.

I can understand why they do make those GWP, but it would be lot less annoying if they would also have similar kinds of small adult oriented sets regularly available. But unfortunatley small vignettes like this are pretty much GWP only.

That said, this particular set to me seems mostly interesting as a parts pack, but otherwise doesn't do much for me.

Does it bother anyone else that the Botanical Garden is on baseplates whereas this is on regular plates so the ground won't align perfectly?

Interesting point......though easily fixed with some thin inverted Cobi tiles ;-)

I agree, and it could have used a baseplate to be able to properly join it with the Ideas project.

Huh, not sure I ever saw that coffee cup before. It reminds me how much I want the "lunch bag" as seen constantly in Dreamzzz cartoons to become a piece.

@emQ It's new 60423 also has them

Tempting and 40698 is still available
Good thing I collect castle or I would be staring at the lego website around midnight

I'm fine with this being a GWP. It is nothing much on its own and unlikely to sell well as a set, the new flower parts will soon be in loads of sets (and online PAB) if past flowers are anything to go by, and it is an incentive to buy a flagship set direct from LEGO early.

It's likely to work as TLG hopes for me--but then, I really, *really* want the large set and am really, *really* pleased with the new pieces introduced with it and also available with this GWP. Figuring out how to attach it properly to the Botanical Garden is a problem, but not, I feel sure, insoluble!

Note that, much as I like the Cerebro GWP, I've changed my mind about the X-mansion (looks too shallow and lacking in detail when compared to other modulars, whether Marvel or conventional), and won't be getting it right away, if at all. So I'm not always a sucker for a good GWP. Just often one.

Wouldn't official tiles suffice? Or is there something special about the cobi ones specifically?

The recent jack o lantern GWP was really disappointing for me. I would've loved to pick that up for =$20.

Anyone in Britain might recognise this minifigure as Frances Tophill from Gardener's World.

Very cute. A good way to get some new parts, although your gonna have to fork out a lot of money for it!

Unless I missed something, the only inverted tiles Lego has (only 2x2 and 4X8 I think?) are still a full plat thick. Cobi has a variety of inverted tiles (apparently they call them inserts or insert blocks) in many sizes as small as 1x1, just half a plate thick. So basically tiny baseplates.

We were not offered it for review so if one is forthcoming it'll be after its release.

I see the treasure chest is now in REWARDS for 2400 points albeit it is still shown as 'coming soon' I wonder if it will be activated for redemption by the time this set and its big brother/sister comes live?

It's lauched tomorrow. I'll post a review here as soon as I've built the sample that arrived yesterday.

Because no ground has ever been uneven in the history of the world.

That does bother me, but also the shelf I want to put the Gardens on is only 10" deep... so this extra bit would not fit in front regardless. I will wait to purchase the Gardens when there are 2x points.

I don't like the concept of GWPs. But since they churn out more of these than ever, they seem to work.

But paths are designed to be even, otherwise I'll have to add a trip hazard warning!

They better add a warning sign at least for the US market. Otherwise you just know they will be sued into oblivion by trippin' minifigs!

Minifig or two lying face-down in a pool of blood should do it.

Would love this as a stand-alone set, would be an instant buy for me at $10. That minifigure would be great in my MOCs! I wish Lego would offer more sets like these, not just as GWPs. Unfortunately, I cannot afford 21353 The Botanical Garden, but it's just as well as I already have two of the Friends' version.

Will have to wait and pick this up on BrickLink.

That's my plan. If either this or Cerebro had actually integrated with the sets, Botanical Gardens and the Mansion would have been day one purchases. But now I can wait for either a sale or double VIP!

By in United States,

During this time of year, I consider it a small victory when I resist succumbing to Lego's attempt to get at my wallet.

This GWP isn't good enough to make me jump at the Garden. The X-Mansion isn't good enough to make me jump at Cerebro especially with the weak, generic Xavier. Yet, I have to admit that I'm wavering on the fence.

I bought Jaws to get the book GWP.

Current Scoreboard: SC - 2, Lego - 1

Ah. Everyone was discussing Day One GWPs, so you throw that "book GWP" in there, and suddenly I'm wondering if there was a book tied to the Jaws set that I never heard about. Didn't even think for a second that it was the middle-aged woman reading her collection of leatherbound Harlequin romance novels.

Yes, that lime book really should've been printed- perhaps something with Fabio on the cover?
