10335 The Endurance has now been officially revealed on LEGO.com. The press release follows:
10335 The Endurance
Rated 18+, 3011 pieces
€269.99 / $269.99 / £229.99
Available at LEGO.com from 29th November
Today, the LEGO Group unveils the LEGO Icons The Endurance set. This set allows history enthusiasts and LEGO fans to embark on a voyage of creativity and recreate Sir Ernest Shackleton’s iconic vessel in stunning detail.
The 3,011-piece set replica model captures the majestic presence of the famous ship in all its glory, with 3 towering masts, 10 full sails, a flying red ensign flag and intricate rigging. The detailed multi-level deck, connected by stairs, has removable sections for access to port and starboard cabins and the ship’s steam engine. Other features include 4 detachable lifeboats, a chained bower anchor and a ship’s wheel that operates the rudder. Ideal for collectors who have a passion for historical ships, and a great decorative piece that includes a sturdy stand for display.
The Endurance ship was the three-masted ship that sailed for The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition from 1914–1917 and is considered to be the last major expedition of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Led by Sir Ernest Shackleton, the British explorer, the goal of the Antarctic Expedition was to cross the Antarctic continent from sea to sea via the South Pole. However, the expedition faced severe challenges, and Shackleton and his crew were stranded on the ice for months. Demonstrating extraordinary leadership and determination, Shackleton led his men on a harrowing journey to safety.
The LEGO Icons The Endurance set is available from 29th November 2024 at LEGO.com/Endurance and LEGO Stores priced at £229.99 / €269.99/ $269.99.
In addition, between 29th November – 2nd December, all purchases of the LEGO Icons Endurance set will include a LEGO Icons Shackleton’s Lifeboat as a free gift. LEGO Insiders only, membership required, all stores and online. While supplies last.

Somebody get the AED for my wallet...........
No minifigure scale -> no bueno.
It's beautiful (especially the cloth flags [I think they're not vinyl]), I'm just not sure exactly who this is for (history nerds?). Then again, Icons does a bunch of different things, and the ship is really nice, so...
Very handsome, and very tempting! Looks like it might involve just lots of black bricks for the hull, but the deck detail and sails are beautiful.
Oh no.
I thought I had planned out all my Lego buying for the rest of the year.
But I need this. I don't have any Lego ships, and aren't super into ships in general, but I love the story behind this one. I've done some research on Shackleton for school projects before, and it is such an amazing tale. I would pass on pretty much any other ship, but for me The Endurance is an easy day one buy.
I mean, its another set that comes out, that's big and expensive. I see it and think, ok, yah, its a boat. Looks alright! Kudos to the designer, very impressive. It's not in my wheelhouse of things I like, but that's ok. I've got 500 other sets to browse and wish I had the room for, haha. I hope people who look forward to it, enjoys it very much!
It's very nice... but I have no clue where would I put it. That's a problem with these large sets - space in a house or apartment is limited
Who doesn’t love a good boat?
I'm gonna need a bigger shelf...
Its not for me. Even though I do like history, Shackleton doesn't particularly interest me. It looks very well done, and I appreciate the little details such as the rudder moving with the ships wheel, and the price is very reasonable too for the parts count. Just seems to be something with limited appeal. Pretty sure most people that want a model ship of the Endurance will already have one, or there will be limited overlap with lego fans.
Gorgeous looking thing and timely coincides with the sumptuous documentary on Disney + being released this week.
This might have to be a day one purchase for me. I've appreciated their historical sets and ships, but some of the older ones are way too pricey on the secondary market. This here is a masterpiece, and even though I'm only trying to get retiring sets that have been on my list, this might just have to be a "this year" purchase as well.
Suddenly, I have a new set at the top of my want list.
That’s a beauty. Apparently some people knew that this was coming. This is news to me. By the way, in the previous article with the first look from Facebook, the imbedded video is not working.
I'm only really interested in making historical space MOCs in the same scale as the Saturn V, but Boaty McBrickface is a damn fine looking model.
Surely no one saw this one coming :-)
I like what I see though! A bit pricier than I would have hoped (considering the absence of minifigs), though not entirely unexpected. But it looks pretty good, even when I'm not entirely sold on the sails. But I don't see any abvious cut corners, and seems pretty sizable without going overboard. One for the "I'll buy it at a nice discount"-list.....
Finally a set I can display in my freezer!
Dad (aka me). Christmas. I hope my family is reading this.
I would have preferred a different ship, such as the Fram from the Amundsen expedition.
I was REALLY hoping for it to be Minifig scale, that would have been an instant day 1 purchase for me. But now I’m not sure…

If this were minifig scale, this would not only be massive but also massively expensive.

Take inspiration from 10255 and the apartment; the lady has some large Lego sets crammed into her tiny apartment
"No, it's too expensive" at 2%
Lets not give Lego ideas!
I always play 'guess the price' with myself for these big set releases, and I was £100 OVER, so either its reasonable, or I've been so conditioned by lego with all these super-expensive sets.
It's a nice looking boat. Would look great displayed in my old maritime themed cottage, or just on a normal persons mantelpiece.
I really like it. Then again, I like quite a lot of sets at first glance (some even at second). But to be honest I don't need it, plus I have no connection to the source material (and way too many still unbuilt sets waiting in storage), so unless this someday comes with a hefty discount I will skip this like I skip most other sets these days.
Interestingly, I recently bought 60420 for less than 35 Euros, and built it almost immediately (i.e. after just a couple of days). Goes to show that sometimes my enthusiasm for building a set is fuelled not by how large it is or how long I have already had it, but by the source material and execution of the build.
It looks like an amazing display piece. I don't know much about the history so have no reason or urge to pick this up. I don't have the money anyway, but it is still well done.
Maybe in the future I could consider it.
Would have liked to see it either at playset-scale with minifigures, or new moulds for some of the key areas. It looks awkward right now with the minifig-scaled lifeboats, rigging, and wheel on a microscale ship.
Gorgeous! I'd seen some of the leaked pictures but didn't realize from that how much of the interior space is used—it's really cool how some of the decks are removable to see inside.
Love it, especially the cloth sails.
First day one purchase in maybe 5-6 years. Price is reasonable with the GWP.
Looks gorgeous but man those black technic ball pins look as bad as they do on every set with sails or cloth pieces. I really wish Lego would make an attempt at technic presentability colour-wise if they're going to use the same techniques for 20 years without iterating.
Not minifigure scale. Doesn't look like the real thing at all. For less money you could buy an actual model and it would look vastly superior on your shelf. What a miss! Sigh...
The perfect companion for 10294 the Titanic!
The second LEGO model of a ship that crashed due to an abundance of ice. Cool.
Just watched the new Endurance documentary by National Geographic on Disney+. It should be mandatory watching when you build this set.

If I had a nickel for every time a LEGO model of a ship that was destroyed by ice was released, I'd have two nickels. Which doesn't sound like much, but it's odd it's happened twice.

Great! Now, I want to buy a bunch of transparent pieces.
That's truly an exaggeration, I ALWAYS want to buy a bunch of transparent pieces.
We definitely need more minifig ships with sails and rigging. Unfortunately, this isn't one. Not sure I need more display pieces. Simply running out of space for non-minifig sets.
EDIT: The GWP is pretty cool.
Will there be a GWP of the James Caird depicting its journey to obtain help on South Georgia?
GWP will be the sea ice that she got trapped in.

Actually it's the James Caird lifeboat.

It's definitely odd two such famous ships sank for basically the same reason three years apart.
I really like it, but would have preferred minifig scale and some minifigs, so I'm undecided about this one.
Fortunately as it seems not the new type of box with lid but the good old type. The new type uses more cardboard, are hard to flatten without damage and take more space flattened

Sure, for 100 Euro less you can get this (which is about the same size):
https://www.schiffsmodelle-shop.de/en/historical-wooden-model-ship-kits/26847-frigate-endurance.html
Then again, I would guess the build would be quite a bit more cumbersome.
And I think in all honesty the LEGO designer did quite a good job at capturing the look and details of the original, considering it's made from standard LEGO pieces.
@hewkii9: going by the pictures of the scale model above, the size of the lifeboats doesn't seem to be that far off actually.
Very cool!
I might get this. As a person who is passionate about history I would enjoy having this. And it's a much more affordable substitute for the Titanic.
Jaws for scale?
While not "minifigure scale," I'm betting that this won't look so out of place next to, for example, the Black Seas Barracuda (OG or modern version). I will populate the Endurance with minifigs and call it "chibi."
I see lots of black City/Friends space station roof panels that will get used in Blacktron MOCs.

Certainly where mine will sit, even with its vastly different scale (about 55:1 against 200:1)!

WHY would you say that? Don't you know what happened to all the sled dogs and the ship's cat once the food ran out? It's not a story for the animal lovers...
The masts look completely wrong. Why did they move them one stud to the front in the middle? This looks really ridiculous and I couldn't find any picture of the original, that this was actually the case.
I think I'm closer to the real ship than I am to anywhere that would sell this set, but fortunately online shopping exists. Definitely going to add Mrs Chippy

Those are called stepped masts. The real Endurance had stepped masts, and so did most sailing ships historically. They allowed shipbuilders to construct masts taller than the height of a single tree. Strapping the mast segments to each other side by side instead of top and bottom was sturdier and allowed for better load paths.

I might have to cash in some points to help with this guy! But I do LOVE this set and the GWP too!!
Slow down LEGO, I need to catch up.
I was lookinging forward to this set from the moment I heard about it back in the summer and I was really surprised by the price, because I thought this would be as unaffordable as the Titanic.
I am fascinated by the history behind this, as is my Dad, who was equally excited about the set. This is one set which he wants me to have, usually he objects vehemently to the prices, this one is an exception.
Looking at the measurements, I might have to dismantle the HP train as well as my Ninjago modulars for Xmas, because I'm running out of space in my Lego room.
The GWP makes it a day 1 for me. I'm happy to see it's a not un-reasonable price and it will make a great companion for my other Lego ships. Had no idea it was coming, but it makes a great Christmas present to me!
glad to see a boat model for the people that liked titanic but couldn't afford its price or size
Oof. I have nowhere to put this and it's pricey (I mean the price is fine for what it is, but it is $270)... but dang, I want this now.

I do - the whole ordeal is amazing and horrific all at once. I don't want to make light of what all the passengers suffered through, but celebrate Chippy in my own way as part of the story and elevating him in peoples memory.

I can't wait for this set to arrive. Yet another LEGO set with an undeniable New Zealand connection released in the second half of 2024!
I would love to have this in my collection, but I have nowhere to put it. Have their revealed the dimensions of it yet?
The video was awesome, extra relevant since Ive been watching a family member build a non-Lego model of the Endurance like that.
This is good.... but where's my minifigures?
Many fans were looking forward to this set for minifigure situations such as City, Creator and Pirates.
Looking at the size of the model I am puzzled why we couldnt have gotten a hybrid scale (which in many ways this is already) where some parts are microscale but nevertheless some areas are designed for minifigures and minifigures are included.
Hybrid scales have been done before in Lego sets.
In fact the stairs and railings here are already two completely different scales. Again referring to the real life model near me, the piece lego used makes the steps far too small and too many of them (1x1 or 1x2 wide wouldve been better).
Likewise the railings and crates for the dogs are basically minifigure scale.
People may recall how the Lego IDEAS Motorised Lighthouse submission was changed from microscale (fan design) to minifigure scale (official) to appeal to more people. Excluding minifigures really limits the target audience of this set.
The price isnt great either.
Some may refer me to Titanic which was of course microscale with no suggestion of minifigure appropriate spaces or minifigures included. My retort to that is that of course Titanic needs to be fully microscale given its size, and a hybrid scale (or even just including minifigures) wouldnt look right at all.
Here the decks especially, such as the front section where the deck is lower, seem very much minifigure scale.
I further question the scale choice when we look at the details inside the cabins. The map and binoculars for example are way too large relative to the rest of the room.
Finally Id just add that when it comes to model sailing ships I believe furled sails are much better for display as you can see the deck better. Great to get some plain realistic sails though.
I wonder what ship they will make next.
This is a steam-sail ship so perhaps we will get a fully sail ship like HMS Victory or the Cutty Sark (both of which are VERY common model kits).
USS Susquehanna would be interesting (It was Admiral Perry's ship which forced Japan to end its centuries of isolation and open up to world trade).
World War era battleships are common model kits but naturally lego wont make those.
Perhaps HMS Beagle, Charles Darwin's ship?
i was excited about this set, but tbh its not grabbing me.
i will visit the lego shop and see it in person, before deciding to buy or not to buy
First Smyth’s, now Shackleton. Rough week for us.
I'm fast running out of build and display space, but if I weren't, this would be a Day One purchase for me. I love sailing ships in general, and this being not just such a ship, but a particular ship of historical interest only makes me want it more.

I thought of you as soon as I saw it, but because it's a historical ship, not for any New Zealand-related reasons.

Perhaps the Calypso, Jacques Cousteau's research ship. Minifig scale, naturally.
The ship has already been the subject of several Ideas entries.
In regards to the Endurance, I have mixed feelings about this one. It looks great and pretty accurate, but for some reason it doesn't have the wow-factor for me. I think this will be a pass for me.

If you look at the box art (back of the box) for larger sets, it will almost always note dimensions. This box is no exception. The Endurance is 31.5” from bowsprit to stern.

Is it possible to add the exact size as shown in the box. The video in the last post, with lots of intricate lathe machine work shows it fits nicely onto a fire mantel piece, but that depends on how big your fireplace is? When you review please could you add a photo along side the Titantic.
A must buy for me.
I had just started watching the documentary on Disney + about how they finally found the wreck of the Endurance under the Weddell sea and the email from Lego revealing this set appeared in my inbox. Nice display piece. Unsure if it's for me.
Would be a must buy if it had a goat included.

You can see it on the back-of-the-box image. It's 80cm overall. Titanic is 135cm, so it's about 2/3 the length. For a mantle piece the width also matters. Based on the photos it's about 23 studs/ 18cm wide including lifeboats but the spars (that hold the sails on the foremast) are 29 studs or 23cm wide.
Titanic is 22 studs wide. So despite being much shorter, Endurance is slightly wider.

A “stepped mast” is any mast that is raised and mounted to the vessel, regardless of how tall it is or how many sections it’s comprised of. I worked for a boatbuilder in high school and once had to help prepare his Mackinac boat for trailering at the end of the season. Part of that process involved unstepping the two single-piece masts. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a specific term for masts that are built up vertically, though one that has to be fabricated for extra girth is called a “made mast”, vs a “pole mast” that’s a solid piece of wood. I don’t think that translates for height, though, because each section is referred to as a different mast (from the deck, lower, top, topgallant, and royal). Each section would be stepped, but only because they’re upright and mounted, not because they’re attached to another section of mast.
Anyways, since the subject came up, some benefits of building the mast up in sections besides “can’t find trees tall enough” include:
1. You can stow replacement sections that are shorter than the deck.
2. You can more easily jury-rig the leftover components if one or more (or all) of your masts get damaged, which might be enough to limp your ship to shore where you can procure replacements for all the destroyed/lost sections.
3. If you need to replace damaged masts, you’d probably need to get towed back to a real shipyard with a tall hoist to have any chance of stepping a pole mast that big, while adding one section at a time can probably be managed with just the crew and calm waters.
4. If you stepped the mast in sections, you can also unstep sections when absolutely necessary.
5. It allows you to more precisely control the diameter of the mast over the entire height, as well as making it easier to eliminate defects (if you find a squirrel nest at the midpoint of a 50’ tree, you can still get two solid 20’ sections out of it).
6. I don’t know if this was actually used in this manner, but the staggered sections would result in points where something could be attached in a non-invasive manner with no chance of it sliding down the mast.

I too love the story around the ship and its final voyage. It's tempting, but I'm not sure if I can spend almost $300 on another ship.
