City Advent Calendar - Day 23
Posted by MeganL,
The excellent train yesterday has capped off a string of very good advent calendar builds. Just two more days to go! Hopefully the penultimate day of the calendar will meet the standard of the last few days.
Today we have a sled, which is another standard in advent calendars. It's always interesting to see how the designers come up with different pieces for sled runners, and this choice of scimitars doesn't disappoint. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard sled, but the 1x2 piece with bar suggests that it can be attached to something, though I'm not sure what that would be.

...that's a really aggressive looking sled. Maybe it's just because it uses the LotR orc swords but it really does look like a cart I'd see being dragged around in Mordor
I've tipped it on its end and declared it Santa's weapon rack
It's sleighing time! :D
I want to say that beside this years ugly-xmas-sweater family, this was a very very bad advent calendar.. If anything probably the worst of them all. But next years city advent calendar will be the only one of interest yet again. As for my personal taste i would very much like a city space advent calendar but i guess this is very far fetched and will never happen since Ninjago is around for decades never got its advent calendar, what a pity.
Sorry LEGO, but some things doesnt seem right, or well thought through.

Looks like sledding is back on the menu, boys!!
Now I really want to see a sled that uses the Fantasy Castle orc swords as runners, with all those giant notches in the blades, and the wide cross guard.
If Rudolph and the rest of the team pisses off Santa, venison is being served at the North Pole tonight.

This puts the 'slay' in sleigh!
If the swords had been silver it might have looked better, but I'm not complaining that those are more widely available through this set, and they do look on point!
I take it those swords are for naughty kids, or kids who wake up when santa is here?
They were elves once...

This really made me LOL
Are we sure this is not Dead Flipper's sled? It looks like the seat is already blood red.

I haven't bought a City Advent Calendar since 2018, but if they did a Space-themed one, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. Like you said, though, probably a pipe dream. But as for Ninjago, the line started in 2011, so while it has been around for more than one decade, it hasn't been around for multiple decades.

I thought it was around 2004 when the first ninjago sets came out as i was writing the last comment, but i was wrong. According to Brickset it was 2011 when ninjago started. Sorry about that.
Still, shockingly fascinating that there hasnt been one..
If i think further there comes the question why Technic hasnt got one yet!? Or was there?
Dont get me wrong, a technic calendar with minibuilds is not very attractive but if you let it cost 50€ with a bit less than 1000pieces that could be interesting for some i bet. Certainly not for me.. this also might not be very festive or i havent got the idea yet for a festive technic build.

No, no, no. They are for nice ones. IT'S EDUCATIONAL ;)
Orc sled.

Technic advent calendar? 24 models that have to be no larger than half a polybag build? I would think the withering look the entire Technic design team gave the person who leaned into the room with that idea would have ended that discussion before they finished the sentence.
"Roooose Blood..." Citizen Kane (if done by orcs :D)
@Oli: If they were going to introduce a new calendar this year, I wouldn't have minded if it was a Ninjago calendar, instead of Disney. Nothing against Disney, but that way, we'd have three licensed ACs, and three unlicensed ones.
Brutal.
It warms my heart to see the Uruk-hai blades :D
Oh also, one of fave Olympic sports is 'skeleton sled'...this thing would bring a whooooooole new meaning to the event...:D
Have to agree that other than the Ugly Sweater family this calendar has been pretty lackluster. Wish there had been more festive colors used for the sled. The City calendar was a bit better than the Star Wars one in my opinion. I think I only figured out what a few of the micro builds were meant to be in that one. My favorite this year once again is the Harry Potter one though the builds keep getting sparser year after year.
This sled needs a mush team of LotR orcs dressed in red coats fringed with white wearing Santa hats.
And then day 24 needs to be either The Grinch or Krampus. MUSH YOU MAGGOTS!
