Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,Maintaining the high quality of LEGO Star Wars sets from 2007 and 2008, various other superb sets were launched in 2009, including a classic Battle Pack and one of my favourite playsets.
Find out what was chosen to represent this year in the Advent Calendar below...
Surprisingly, the Venator-class Star Destroyer has actually appeared in an Advent Calendar once before, back in 2016. This design shares some similarities with its predecessor, but its shape has been refined towards the rear, now including the hyperdrive housing between the engines. However, I think I prefer the engines themselves from the original model.
The white 1x2 brick with studs on the side visible beneath the command tower is irritating, but this element is not available in dark red or tan, unfortunately. If it had been, that dash of colour could denote the Open Circle Armada symbols on the hull. Nonetheless, this is a superb model and acknowledging 8039 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser was a fine choice for 2009.
Overall - Despite an odd colour at its core, this is an excellent rendition of the Republic Attack Cruiser.

I adore this vessel and it is a shame we didn't get the double bridge but, it is a very hard thing to recreate.
Here is today's ranking (in my opinion):
6. City
5. Spider-Man
4. Friends
3. Star Wars
2. Disney
1. Harry Potter
6. SM Kinda... meh. Wait, is it a deja-vu? (0 points today + 28 points previously earned = 28 points total)
5. Fr Nappy packs and milk cartons for your super market stock or castle (thanks @Brickes_ficko (1+19=20)
4. Dis Backdrop (2+26=28)
3. SW Surprisingly high up (3+25=28)
2. HP Substantial build, interesting parts (4+23=27)
1. City Of course! (5+26=31)

I modified my Venator with https://brickset.com/parts/design-26047. It's not the best option, but it gets the point across
There are so many budget options!
So normally I "retire" an Advent mini-build when a superior version comes out in a later calendar with modern parts that make use of modern pieces. I was happily going to replace 75146 with this model, which is slighly better.
BUT, I didn't know until yesterday that there's actually two versions of the Venator, one slightly larger than the other. Compare https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Venator_I-class_Star_Destroyer with https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Venator_II-class_Star_Destroyer.
Therefore, I declare 75146 to be a Class I Venator and this year's to be a Class II and they can sit side-by-side in whatever mini diorama I eventually make with them (along with the smaller Acclimator model).
Day 1: X-Wing - representing 7140 from 1999
Day 2: Princess Leia - representing her first appearance in 2000
Day 3: TIE Fighter - representing 7146 from 2001
Day 4: Super Battle Droid - representing its first appearance in 2002
Day 5: AT-AT Walker - representing 4483 from 2003
Day 6: Y-Wing - representing 10134 from 2004
Day 7: Minikit - representing LEGO Star Wars: The Videogame, released in 2005
Day 8: Jabba's Sail Barge - representing 6210 from 2006
Day 9: Millennium Falcon - representing 10179 from 2007
Day 10: Ahsoka Tano - representing the first Clone Wars sets in 2008
Day 11: Venator-Class Attack Cruiser, representing 8039 from 2009
If you still remember LEGO sets having only four digits in their set numbers consider yourself old

I also like the City's baby and SM's is my least favourite catapult so far, I decided on this order based on the baby's bottle vs. the play feature.
Hey, it's my favorite gray triangle! I do wish they'd used a binocular piece like 30053 and the one from 75146 did. That 1x2 jumper makes it look too much like an Imperial-class.

Hey, I have a set with a *three-digit* number in my collection: 720! And sets with two- ore even one-digit numbers have shown up in VSotW.

This ranking is honestly turning out way closer than I thought it would. I thought by now, nearing the midway point, that we'd have a clear front runner but this is honestly still everyone's game
The Battle of Endor set would have been a perfect excuse to include a catapult for today.
I try my best to forget what all the builds are once I see the initial leak/reveal. Whilst this advent calendar so far represents a highlight from each year.. I do remember that a crimson firehawk (the dreadful 4+ set) is coming up...
Not sure how that set will represent a highlight of whichever year that abomination came out (this year...last year.. can't remember)
This is not a great year for the Lego advent calendars. The Star Wars ones are the least disappointing. And I say this as someone who doesn't like Star Wars at all! Harry Potter, Spider Man, and City have been more misses than hits for me. (Glad I didn't buy them this year.)
This is better than 75367
Where the white is showing on the sides, are those Apollo studs supposed to be depicting something specific, or did they just use them because they were already in the bag to form the engines?
A good choice, although I agree with Capn's initial suggestion that 8014-1 be represented - that set is not only excellent but also ubiquitous, I'm pretty sure we had two of them despite no one in my family actually being into Clone Wars. Nothing wrong with the minimodel that they went with though.
With the tail represented, it's a vast improvement over the previous Advent Venator. The bridge has room for improvement, but I also can't think of a better way than the binocular piece used on that model.

I still remember LEGO sets from my childhood having only three digits in their set numbers, so I consider myself ancient.
;-)
Nice build. I have 75146 as well, and can't decide which model I like more. There's pros and cons to both of them.

I'm pretty sure that that's supposed to be 7931 or 75362.
I think the shaping on this is perfect. And a great pick to represent 2009!

I prefer the term 'experienced,' Junebug.

You remind me everyday, no thanks for that, ki... young... adult!
I must admit that this surpasses the Millennium Falcon from a few days ago.
It sure is a Star Destroyer.
