By in United Kingdom,

The train looks pretty decent. There have been mutterings elsewhere of not another holiday train, but this one looks like a nice addition to previous ones.

The record player was never going to be my thing, it is too small and looks too much like a toy record player. The record itself looks awful, it is way too thick and also has the label sticking up way too high. The record is thicker than a real one but a fraction of the size.

The craft kit, no thanks. But nice for kids.

And aside from the new "brass" pieces, the Barracuda Seas is dreadful for the price. I'm glad that isn't a GWP and that you have to opt in to purchase it with points.

Record player looks like it has nice parts though, not exactly in the "holy ____ I NEED that" category though. Yeah and a pretty poor "adult" display piece.

All pretty underwhelming.

I love the new Christmas train.

I was hoping the retro record player would be more retro. Evidently that hope was in vain. That's going on eBay if it lasts past the Endurance release.

I should avoid getting the craft session but that will go on eBay too if not.

As for the Barracuda Seas, I'm not spending 2400 points, though I do wish it was a gwp.

By in Austria,

I hate this trend of putting appealing sets that should be GWPs - like the Black Seas Barracuda Diorama - behind an absurd 2400 VIP points price tag.

The fact none of these have been selling out should have sent LEGO a pretty clear message that we don't like the idea...could someone wake up the people at LEGO in charge of customer feedback? They're clearly asleep on their job.

By in United States,

I wasn't planning on spending that much, but that record player looks amazing! Which means between this weekend and Endurance a week later, this is going to be an expensive month. Rust and ruin...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hate to even suggest it, but does "Barracuda Seas" come across to anyone else like the sort of title ChatGPT or Midjourney would come up with?

Obviously the set itself appears to be a real render, but it's too easy to imagine the creative process starting with someone in marketing asking AI for ideas, AI generating a ship model with a plaque reading "BARRRACUDA SÆS" based on whatever actual Lego sets were in its training data, and that getting "cleaned up" for the finished model.

By in Canada,

My only wish was that they would start Insider Weekend on Friday...will not be able to get to a LEGO Store on the weekend...
(and, sadly, online orders is NOT an option!)

Therapist: the thicc record isn't real, the thicc record can't hurt you.
Lego: *makes 40699*

By in Denmark,

I like the little fat record. You guys get i all wrong. Surely it's a 78.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 'absurdly named Barricuda Seas' got a laugh out of me.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The stylus on the record player looks like something from The Flintstones. Would be interesting do a record player in 1:1 scale.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Someone in my LIT cohort built a similar record player for his designer challenge, since he is a DJ. I bet he will be excited.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll go ahead and get this out of the way for the record player:

-Who asked for this?
-I could buy a real one for that spend threshold.
-Why do they always lock the interesting sets behind a GWP wall?
-I'm going to put off buying just to make sure I don't get that GWP.
-This set gets a printed piece while...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I think I'm less interested to buy the Barracuda Seas now that it's named... Barracuda Seas.

However the Chronometer ( 5009045 ) is still in back of my mind. Is this set also going to be available on Saturday ?

Usually the same GWPs are repeated for Black Friday. I'm hoping so!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holiday Train is ok. A polybag of Christmas decorations and holiday theme or Winter theme build would be preferred in my opinion. I still feel overall the threshold for GWP is too high as an adult purchaser I buy plenty of sets year round when there is not a GWP, a frequent shopper free item would be nice. Even just a poly of dots and random decorations. Record player might be good for parts.

I think fewer people would mind if you could get them in store or order them online with free shipping.

By in United States,

I'm not going to be placing an order big enough to qualify for 40699, but I may hunt it down on the secondary market, although I'm running out of room on my retro tech shelf, and I still haven't gotten 31147 for said shelf. May have to do some rearranging.

I’ll stick this GWP in my box of VIDIYO sets, as it seems like the ideal companion. The little cassette player they made earlier certainly was.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like I'll be saving some cash this year. Underwhelming to say the least.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

* Why aren't the GWPs more good?
* Why is this good set a a GWP?
* Why is there no GWP?

It's the circle of life.

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of these GWPs look that desirable. The train is okay, but I prefer if they made it just the front scaled up with 1-2 minifigures. I really dislike the decision to go with a record player. Last year's GWPs were amazing- winter stall and wizard workshop.

Lego missed the marked with this Black Friday's GWPs!

The record player is very accurate to its real life counterpart!

I guess... maybe if you have like 10 records stacked on each other.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yawn... I guess I'll just look forward to 2x vip points and the extra pieces the sets come with. These tiny sets make for ugly displays

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the Train. The Record Player will end up in the parts bin like so many other boring vip/insider exclusives like the brick built bricks. The Barracuda is cute but I may wait to see if they are offering discounted insider point vouchers since I currently only have about 6000 available. FOMO makes me want to find something in the City/Friends/Dreamzz themes to get the Crafting Kit.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

They were on the insiders weekend page earlier but now there is no mention of them?

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Looking forward to the Brickset reviews of these. Hopefully before the Insiders Weekend in order to ease the decision of buying something expensive or not.

Get an Insiders account. That gives you points every time you shop that you can spend on "free" items and so frequent shoppers are rewarded that way. And if you want to reach the high GWP thresholds, save up purchases and only buy when there is a GWP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll be the oddball here and say I like the record player. I am also someone who collects records but I mean, they even got it to look like the record has grooves. Pretty cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the train and the record player. It's just that I don't see myself ever building the record player and putting it anywhere. I guess if I *had* a record player I would, like I've done with my Lego camera. It sits next to my actual camera.

So... looks like I'll spend enough to get the train even though I have a pile of small holiday trains already.

As I said, I'm not going to spend enough for Lego to give it to me, but I am planning to look for it on Bricklink.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope one of the sets on sale is Ninjago City Markets, which would be enough to qualify for all of these I believe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Somewhat underwhelmed this year. I really prefer when the Holiday GWPs function as Winter Village accessory packs, and none of this comes remotely close.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

What's up with the fairground lights on the pitch correction slider of the record player build? Every play model I know with one of these, if theres lights on the slider, they're all the same color (red).

They got a thick black rubber slip mat like my Sony Player has, the record just is a 5'' picture disc :P

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The train is a must have for me. But I'll probably buy it on ebay or on the dutch marktplaats because the GWP-bar is set way to high for me. I only have one set left on my wish list with a very low prize.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone know if the Train and Record Player are going to be available Black Friday on the 29th as well?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

No need to have. Most of these GWP´s and extra´s lately aren´t even in the ´nice to have´.

Not just a real one - a great one at that. 250$ is where you start to be able to get higher quality record players nowadays. Something like an ATLP120, i think theres also some cheaper Pro-Ject players in that range.

This fake one with at least $250 worth of Lego. A real one won't do that.
