How Tudor Corner looks next to other modulars
Posted by Huw,
10350 Tudor Corner is the 20th modular building so there are 38 ways that one of the previous models can be placed adjacent to it.
I don't have time to photograph every variation, but I have taken pictures of it next to other currently available ones so you can see how well, or otherwise, it'll fit into your street.
There is one combination that I think works particularly well.
Next to 10326 Natural History Museum
Buildings with stairs on the side never really look good abutted to others and that's definitely the case here.
It looks better with the museum on the right.
Next to 10312 Jazz Club
It's still not ideal having that flight of stairs between the buildings, but I think it looks better here because the yellow pizzeria isn't so high and deep as the museum.
This is my favourite combination of those I tried. The colours and architectural styles work well together, and the adjacent modules line up height- and depth- wise.
Next to 10297 Boutique Hotel
On the other hand, I think both of these combinations looks ridiculous!
What do you plan to put next to yours?

The Museum sure should have been taller and buffier.
The stairs look akward next to a neighboor. Same with the PR 10243
If I got this, it’d end up going next to my bookshop. I’m not sure it’d look particularly coherent next to any of the Modulars, though; that’s the problem when you spread your wings, creatively speaking, as much as this theme has.
I think I'll be spending a lot of time rearranging my collection until everything looks right, though I like the stairs next to the pizza place.
Are there not 342 ways existing modulars can be arranged next to it? For each of the 19 options to go on one side there are 18 to go on the other side; 19 x 18 = 342. Or is there a further limitation to take into account?

I often wish I was that.

I was just considering combinations of putting one of the 19 on either side of it for a photo. I'll reword my statement slightly.
Oh yes, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to take all the pictures! I'm looking forward to adding this one to our modular collection.
I only have the police station that I think would look goid with the stair case in the middle. Thought?
@Huw
Thank you for this article.
I understand it takes time to set this up, lighting, camera, upload etc.
However I would respectfully request more pictures of the Tudor Corner with older modulars. For example some people have suggested Parisian Restaurant with its staircase next to Tudor Corner.
Detective's Office would be another popular one I think.
I'm not sure how Brickset HQ works, but perhaps this Tudor Corner copy could be shared around the Brickset staff to get pictures of it in combination with as many modulars as possible?
After all, I think its important for Tudor Corner as this is one of those modulars that will be especially difficult to 'match up'.
I expected to receive requests and I'm happy to oblige. However I recently disposed of buildings prior to the Parsian Restaurant and some are still in their unopened boxes.
These are the ones I have readily at my disposal:
https://brickset.com/sets/subtheme-Modular-Buildings-Collection/mycollection-Flag3/runas-huw
I was half expecting a shot of it next to the Batman shadow box, just for the satisfaction of our own little in-joke
I think the pizza place of Jazz Club fits very well next to Tudor Corner. Considering that the designer has said in a multitude of interviews that Tudor Corner was designed to sit next to the Museum (hence the stairs), it looks extremely awkward next to it. The colors don't match and it just emphasizes how small the Museum is.
I could imagine that Detectives Office or the Pet Shop might be good fits, maybe also the Bookshop or Assembly Square.

As a matter of fact it is 19! = 19x18x17x16x etc
Equals: a LOT
Thank you for the nice article. I plan to put it next to the detectives office. Of your variants, I also really like the jazz club - although I built mine upside down - but it's definitely another option.
Thank you for your effort!
Would really like to see how it sits next to older modulars as well.
like as next to Brick Bank, Detective's Office or Parisian Restaurant etc.
Interesting. The designer mention in an interview that the stairs on the side was specifically put in so that this building could be placed next to the museum to give that a little bit of breathing space. The thinking being that buildings of that museum type are usually not butted up to adjacent structures. Personally I think a agree with that. With Tudor on the right the museum looks better, but perhaps the Tudor looks better with the museum on its right...
Personally I like when there are little spaces here and there. Like the small alley in the Detectives Office and Assembly Square, the stairs on Tudor and Parisian, and the actual square on Assembly Square, just so that not everything is all lined up as a single facade.
I agree the result looks a mess with Tudor paired up with the Hotel though. Different styles and colors, they really are from different worlds.

Okay great, well in that case if possible we'd like to see Parisian Restaurant, Detective's Office, Corner Garage*, Bookstore and Police Station in the next article.
Also as I said if anyone else at Brickset has other modulars maybe like Brick Bank or Assembly Square for instance.
(*I doubt Tudor Corner will look good next to the garage but might as well show everyone in case someone else is interested)

Yes, but only if you consider any potential combination with any number of modulars (and I guess disregard the limitations of corner buildings). I think @LedLight was only referring to the potential combination of any 2 modulars.
I'll be doing the same after January 1st lol
I feel like it might work best with 10197 Fire Brigade, but looking forward to alternatives

I think there are also some like the bookshop which can be halved if I remember right so you can hand one building in that set either side of another set
I thought about putting it next to Parisian Restaurant, but I already have Downtown Diner next to that. I'll have to have a think, but the Bookshop seems a good idea.
The museum only looks good on its own. far too small
To my chagrin, I don't think I have the space for this one, but if I did, I'd put it against the house side of 10270. (The shop side is currently up against 10312.) Or maybe I'd put the Jazz Club up against the house side and put Tudor Corner up against the shop, if I didn't like the way the staircase looked up against the house.
The boutique hotel might look good having the walkways facing each other as to create an alley between the buildings.

Agree with this.
Some of the most interesting modulars - Tudor, Parisian Restaurant, Diner, Boutique Hotel - are great because of their unique style and architecture, but they can look awkward beside others with clashing styles.
And some of the modulars that look great in a row - Jazz Club, police, detective, assembly square, pet shop - are less interesting on their own because their style isn’t as unique or interesting.
I disagree with respect to the museum. I think the stairs work far better between the two as they give the impression of space and distance, (which the museum requires), whereas the image where the buildings are directly nestled looks a little cluttered.
Currently, I'm the museum is my go for this set, but it may change...
I just wondered if it was an easier matter to Photoshop sets now, as they are uploaded to various programs with similar stock backgrounds.

Perhaps the museum could look good with the tudor corner to its right as pictured in the article, and for instance the Parisian restaurant to its left because of the effect the stairs have like you mentioned.
Stairs help to connect with different building architecture. It's more interesting when all modulars are not lined up into one blocky facade.
I think it suits to 10270 and 10278
About museum: like ppl said - it may seem to be small next to other buildings so the best option would be create green area next to it (how about petition to Lego so they make modulars fillers?)
Parisian Restaurant, X-Men Mansion, Doctor Strange and Daily Bulge.
I'd be most curious next to Parisian Restaurant, see how those stairs line up. I currently have my PR next to the Diner, the stair provide enough space for the wraparound diner fascade to be nicely visible (plus the comedic idea of swanky Chez Albert abutting the bright neon 1950s roller skate diner amuses me).
But yeah, stairs next to stairs could be interesting.
@merman said:

That woulda bumped the cost right up. I do reckon 2 copies of the set is the way to go for a better sized museum though.
Book Shop, Pet Shop, or Green Grocer

I plan on putting a 16x32 baseplate between the museum and the tudor, with the corner kiosk gwp on it. That way the stairs won't look so out of place. Did a similar thing with diner, I felt it needed a space between it on the building before it. That space has a small park-like area with the fountain gwp.

I agree that the museum would look better with more space beside it. I think it should get at least 8--or better yet, 16--studs added on both sides. And the botanic garden would be its ideal next door neighbor.
Not only some combination don’t work because of the shape, but also because of the colours.
Each (most) buildings has too many different colours, and each one is too different.
The number of different colours is a problem. I’m buying sets to build them once, and then for the parts. I accumulated a lot of sets and then realized it’s not a good way to have parts for ‘mocs’.So I started to sell them.
When I was young I had about 10 classic space sets, and spent years building different nice things with the parts. With the amount of different parts, colours, this situation is impossible to recreate today.
Bleagh, I KNEW the hotel and the Tudor Corner would look bad next to each other but I didn't think it'd be THAT bad. Yikes!
Definitely would need to have another model between them. The Jazz Club does serve as a relatively effective bridge.
Honestly the museum doesn't look great sandwiched next to ANY other modulars, IMO. A building like the museum in "real life" would be flanked by green space. LEGO should release some kind of "modular park" set every year in the summer.

The pet shop can be split in two. So there are 20 building that can be placed on the left and 19 that can be placed on ther right, or 20*19=380 combinations.
Gonna try to rebuild Boutique Hotel mirrored so the stairs here fit alongside the art gallery! Or might just stick it next to Parisian Restaurant... Why don't more people mirror their modulars to fit better? Worked a dream with Assembly Square! Only needed to switch out two pieces...

I had never known this was a thing but I literally just did this for the first time with 910033 Train Shed as my tracks terminate from the left. What a fun and different way to build!

I’ve unfortunately run out of room to do that. I’ve therefore tried to use Parisian Restaurant and Downtown Diner as corner modulars.
I'd love to see it next to Brick Cross Train Station, that's the next most British looking modular compatible building, I think the heights should work well too.

I think one park for every season would be nice, or a 4 in 1 set that you get multiple copies of.
This just confirms to me that the theme is not cohesive. The individual buildings look great, but rarely any of them look good next to each other. Too many colors and design choices.
It also confirms that the Tudor building is gorgeous even more than I thought before. Although I may have to modify it so there are no outside steps. LEGO people don't need to actually go up stairs to reach the upper levels.
The Tudor Corner only keeps getting better and better looking. Can you try putting it with the Downtown Diner if you get a chance?
Put Tudor Corner next to the very first, unofficial modular. I honestly think it would look good.

The Diner absolutely deserves to be a corner. It gets pride of place every time we reconfigure our modular setup. I like using it with the garage as either two adjacent corners, or at two ends of a block.
If anyone wants to send me a set I can photograph next to any of the official modulars and almost all of the unofficial ones …. ;)
`runas-huw` just exploded my mind. Does it mean we can do this for any user? And you have 62 sets in total? We can use this to find and explore other user collections?
I love the new modular, but just don't think it fits well within the existing collection...a little too 'European' feel , versus 'Main Street USA' feel. I donno. I can't put my finger on it... Will still be buying for the collection - obviously, and look forward to the building experience.

Thank you! I'm curious about how the Tudor House, Museum, and Boutique Hotel look together. I'm curious about two specific line-ups (from left to right):
1. Tudor Corner, Museum, Boutique Hotel
2. Boutique Hotel, Museum, Tudor Corner

Yes
No, 62 marked with flag 3 which I am using to indicate sets in certain themes that are currently in a built state
Yes, but only if they've elected to make their collection public.

"disposed of" ...
What does that mean?! Deep storage, slag bricks bin? Sold off at a bargain just to make space?
I think its style should, on paper, go well with the style of the Boutique Hotel... I might try to build this mirrored so that it can go to the right of the hotel, with the stairs of each at opposite ends of the pair and the full-height edges directly abutting in the middle. Maybe?
(I have no idea if this can be easily mirrored... I'm guessing not without replacement parts, given the angled pub facade, but I might have to try anyway!)
It's funny @huw said: "Buildings with stairs on the side never really look good abutted to others and that's definitely the case here." as that is exactly why the stairs were put in so it could go next to the Museum as the first photo shows. This was revealed in the designer interview posted on a certain ex-designer's YouTube channel. That is why the stairs exist, to give spacing to the museum.
I actually don’t mind the stairs separating two buildings, r sorta reminds me of SF. My original thought was to the left of Jazz Club because those 3 businesses would make for a nice street view. But I do like it to the left of Boutique Hotel as well.
Have you tried it, with the detective office?
in my mind, I think they are as a good couple

I build every vehicle with that has a drivers side mirrored. Steering wheel should be on the right
I mirrored the house that came with 10270 Bookshop and thought it looked much better. As for Tudor corner I thought maybe next to police station (to the right) and perhaps remove the newspaper stand that came with police stion
I'm putting mine next to 910009 because I could always stand for a stiff drink after blowing all my money at the Lego store.
As others have already stated the Museum looks best with space on each side. I built it on two baseplates between Sanctum Sanctorium and the Hotel.

I hope Tudor Corner looks good next to Assembly Square. That's the only available spot currently in my city layout without switching things around.
Hard disagree on stairs between buildings - looks very apt to me! Anyone who’s ever lived in an older, hilly city will definitely recognize the look of it

I did it for my second modular build, the Pet Shop, since some people had mentioned how it 'felt' better or something, that was fun.
I've already cleared a plot for this one - it will fit in to the left of the bookshop which will hopefully look reasonable with the staircase to the side of the plot in my 'old quarter' of my town. The Hotel is an odd one though to link in with other structures - mine is located on a sort of peninsular adjacent to my town square so it works quite well, only being attached at the blank wall.
This might be good next to the Museum, Market Street, Town Hall, Assembly Square, Brick Bank or Bookstore ?
Looks a bit out of place next to the "European Continental" or "North American" buildings?
Maybe there are more "Old England" buildings in the pipeline?

Personally very excited to build and place this tudor corner next to my British gothic university design. I expect it will be a good fit with these colors!
I wonder what it looks like next to Fountain Square.....but as the other side of my street for my city is a vacant lot right now the new Set will be the 1st building to be built on the corner of that side

Yea, I have the Lunar NY park 80107 next to the museum and I think it works (for me atleast).
About how the stairs look awkward when placed next to most buildings, I wonder if LEGO has ever considered releasing in-between sets to smooth out the transition between buildings. For example, a 16x32 basketball court, alleyway or even the shrine design from 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens
I think it should pair well with Assembly Square, if I ever come to buying the Tudor Corner.
