The former to me is one of the best City sets ever, and the latter reminds me of 918-1, one of my favourite Classic Space sets.

My favorite set is 21350 Jaws and set under $40 is 31147 Retro Camera. I want to have both of these badly. The Jaws set has beautiful and clever construction. Same goes with the camera.

My favorite GWP is 40697 Halloween Pumpkin. This one I do own. It’s adorable and who doesn’t like a light brick? For minifigures, this was difficult. I’m going for Matt Hooper, the oceanographer played by Richard Dreyfuss from the aforementioned Jaws set. The resemblance is excellent.

I haven’t built my copy yet, but in my opinion 43242 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage replicates the source material perfectly and impressed me the most this year when I saw the press release images.

Before naming my picks in each category, I would like to take a moment and emphasize how impressed I am with the year-long Space campaign. I loved the theme-overarching marketing approach (across 10 themes!), as well as the compatibility between City, Friends, and Technic sets. Furthermore, I don't remember picking up (almost) the entirety of a subtheme in a year anytime recently and I think most of the Space sets this year have been excellent, especially the City and Friends ones.

I built a lot of impressive sets this year but I think this one takes the cake. Something about how great the articulation is, as well as how elegantly constructed it is, makes it truly set a new gold standard for brick-built Lego dragons.

Favorite set under $40: 60430
This was one of the first 2024 sets I got, but something about it stands head and shoulders above other sets its size. It's cheap, it's playable, it has a fantastic minifigure... it's just a really fun set overall.

Favorite GWP set: 40697
There were a fair number of fun GWPs this year but this one's rebuildability and excellent use of a light brick just made it a really solid little holiday decoration. I expect that I'll bring this one out for Halloween again next year.

Favorite minifigure of 2024: Nüwa from 80058
Monkie Kid has had a lot of great figures but this fig's snake tail and ring of mystical stones elevated what was otherwise already an elegant-looking figure into something that really makes an impression.

On GWPs: I don't like the "GWP for specific set on its first release that sells out immediately", especially since most of them are big sets that are going to sell anyway and don't need the sweetener -- or in a couple cases where it was required but sold out invalidating the big set. I hope they go back to "just its own set" GWPs or sell the previously-GWPs separately.

As a father with a 4 year old daughter, I have to say that I've been pleasantly surprised by Gaby's Dollhouse, both the series and the Lego sets to accompany it. The sets are all good builds with plenty of potential for play, and unique and accurate minifigs. They also seem to go on closeout sale too.

My 2024 nominations:

40 or less: 60430 interstellar spaceship.
For fans of the old space theme this edition of city space line is as close as it gets.

Overall: I can’t choose between 10327 Dune ornithopter , 77092 Zelda Deku tree , 10333 Barad-dûr.

Minifig: also a difficult choice: the cmf line knocked it out of the park this year with my faves:
Vampire knight, M-tron powerlifter, ice planet explorer and dragonborn paladin.
But also Sauron and Ocarina of time adult Link are up for nomination.
