A new LEGO board game announced: Brick Like This!
Posted by CapnRex101,
Monkey Palace was launched last year, created through a partnership between LEGO and board game publisher Asmodee.
Another game has been announced today: Brick Like This! The game involves one player building a model as another player describes it and takes inspiration from Brick Party, a game released in 2015.
The game will be officially at London Toy Fair and Nuremberg Toy Fair later in January and will be available to purchase in August.
Have you played Monkey Palace and are you looking forward to this game? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks to Matt of Automattic Comics for letting us know.

I have a feeling that the Lego Games theme is officially back.
This sounds like the board game Instructures. Two teams of two people got an identical set of wooden building blocks and building instructions. One teammate would describe the build as another built it. There were fun modifications to increase challenge. The game won awards but itust have been too expensive to produce the wood blocks, so it quickly went out of print. I highly recommend tracking down a copy for anyone who loves cooperation, communication, and fast paced play.
When you got Brick Like This, you just can't miss
*Jazz trill*
You're curious (curious)
And that's marvelous (marvelous)
And that's your reward
You'll never be bored
If you ask yourself "what is this?"
Like curious... a-like curious...
Curious George!
(Why was this the first thing that came to mind for me)
(Also this literally just a ripoff of 3844)

We did something like this at a kids' party last year. There was a Lego model in one room, and two teams in two other rooms. One player from each team was the architect, and everyone else was builders. The architect had to look at the example, then go to the builders and communicate what to build. It was a lot of fun, and oddly enough, my son who was the architect on our team directed us to build a mirror image of the model. There's a lot of leeway in how complicated and how abstract the target model is, how many pieces it contains, and how many "extra" pieces you give each team that won't be used in the build.
We got 5009127 Monkey Palace from Santa, which is a really nice set. Have given it a go but couldn't quite get our heads around the rules, and the various YouTube videos don't seem to help either. I don't know if there's an authoritative tutorial out there anywhere, or else we'll just play it our way I guess...?
I hope it's a properly designed modern boardgame....

Which in itself is a ripoff of Pictionary.

We got it as well. Took a slow play through to get the rules down. We left the trophy cards out to start with to understand the base rules. What are you stuck on?
I loved the old Lego Games theme, it felt so fresh and exciting at the time. I hope Lego can recapture that

Thanks for this. I guess the main thing to ask is if on each turn you have to start building from the ground (ie. the baseplate) – is that right? Cheers!

I immediately thought of 3844 as well; guess it wasn't just me.
So it's just creationary? (3844)
There's nothing on the box highlighting it as LEGO and given the name it doesn't sound like a LEGO product. Are you sure this isn't just another brick company coming out with this?

Yes, you have to start building every turn from the ground. This is clearly stated in the (German) rules.
We played the game several times on Christmas and like it very much!

The new game, Brick Like This!, is based on the Brick Party game linked in the article, but will be officially licensed with LEGO.
With Asmodee hmm? Would be cool if they could do some Lego sets based on Ticket to Ride or somehow do a crossover with that. My favorite board game
Ohhh Automattic Comics! One of my favourite shops :o)
I love this idea and am much more likely to get it than the monkey one.
I don't really care for this. When it comes to board games, I stay away from the Lego ones.
It's Asmodee so it will probably be 30 basic bricks and cost £30.
Will parts come included? And will the builds be limited to suggestions included?
I suppose there might be an issue with licensing, but brickoply would be a good future game, with little microscale models for each property and parts to add when upgrading to hotels.
Dancing on, feel the SNOT all night long
You never Brick Like This before
Because we don’t talk about brick

Monkey Palace arrived for Christmas here as well. It was more complex than expected, which in our case was a good thing. It’s worth the time to learn. Once you get the building rules figured out it’s great fun.

While I, too, thought of it, if @FireFox31 is correct, it's not "Build something, then other people guess what it is," it's "Build something based on vocal instructions rather than printed ones."

I keep meaning to pick that one up. But considering how little I've been able to game since my stroke, it'd probably never actually get played. You've also reminded me of a cool brick-built Catan board I have a picture of on my hard drive. I can't find the picture online, but I did find an Ideas submission: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/ac842527-4496-4731-9f13-09a1cb83859d/comments_tab

We also stumbled on this point at first, using the English rules. I like the "Watch it Played" board game guides on YouTube, but I suspect these are a matter of personal taste.
It's a good strategic game though, superior to the previous Lego games I played from a few years back.
Assmodee can Brick This!?
Are we really doing this?
They fly now?
I'm waiting for the shadow box version.

What I want to see is a reboot of Heroica, but I'm sure I'm dreaming.
