Exo-Suit signing report
Posted by Huw,
I've just got back from Bluewater after an excellent day at the Exo-Suit signing. It was fantastic to see so many of you there, so many in fact that the 50 TLM polybags I had were gone before midday.
I hear there was a queue of people desperate to lay their hands on a set outside the shop at 9am when it opened. I arrived at about 10:15 so didn't see that but already there were a lot of people milling about inside and out.
At 11-ish, an orderly queue was formed, headed by GoldJono and other Bricksetters. By midday there was a couple of hundred people in it, I would estimate.
Before the signing started, Pete and the others in 'team Exo-Suit' assembled for a group photo.
People were let in in batches from the queue outside to get their box, or instructions, signed. Here Doctor Sinister has his signed while Yve watches on. Pete was very accommodating and willing to write special requests, pose for photos and chat with people, in particular explaining the process his original model went through to make it an official set.
By the end of the session Pete decided to sit down :)
At 4pm there was still a few dozen sets left behind the till, so nobody went home without one (or two).
Overall it was a good day, and great to see so many of you and put faces to names.
Unfortunately while I was in the LEGO shop my wife and daughter made a significant dent in my credit card, so it was also an expensive one :)

Looked great to attend! Unfortunately due to being in Leicester and being busy today I couldn't come, oh well.
An excellent day had by all I think! I met a number of people from Brickset while I was there, and you can see me in the first large photo, standing right in the middle in a blue T-shirt, with my back to the camera.
Anyway, I went away with two Exo-Suits signed and having met plenty of old and new faces. I look forward to the next event like it!
Looks great. Wish I could have made it!
Great! I couldn't come, but I am glad you all had fun.
I walked past the lego store at about 8:30 on my way to get a coffee and there were people waiting then, joined the group at about 8:50...was only about a dozen or so people there for opening.
The store manager told me he'd commandeered stock meant for other Lego stores to make sure they didn't run out.
Pete was in great form, despite obviously over heating. He was very friendly, very chatty and happily poising for pictures.
Thanks to everyone involved, and everyone who attended for such a great day out!
@nabii Last time I checked , you did make it! :p
I was also there. Only got one and already built it , really is a great set [thanks Pete & Mark] Met some interesting people in the queue too.
Looked a good day out.
Took till just after 1 o'clock for the first one to go on ebay.
'Twas indeed good to put some names to faces, had a great day. Thanks Huw for the free TLM set and also thanks to Andy for the awesome shoulder pouldron he was giving out for the set ;) nice one it looks great on YVE.
I toyed with the idea of popping along, glad I didn't seeing as there was a queue.
It was amazing meeting you and others! As I said in the message I sent you, thank you for the lego movie polybag! It made my brother very happy and certainly put a smile on his face,.
I am amazed at how long the queue was when I arrived. I was standing next to the vice president of apple who had come all the way from San Francisco!! I managed to get him to check out my youtube channel!
Although Pete was the star man and I enjoyed talking to him for about 2 minuets when the crowd died down. I really enjoyed talking to Yve mainly about turtles but also about many other things such as conventions around the UK!
It was a really pleasurable and memorable experience and despite all the sweating I hope Pete enjoyed it!
My Haul video from the event (for anyone who wants to see it is here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK5f3kxMX5k&feature=gp-n-y&google_comment_id=z13kshp4rwq3cdddz223dzg4spr0vfipc04
Thanks again

too bad I live in holland, otherwise I would have joined!
Those green shirts don't seem to be the correct shade. Wish I could have been there.
Where could we find the green LEGO space t-shirt ?
*sigh* can never seem to find a Lego event in my area, there not being a Lego store in an hours drive away, so i mainly stick to my local Target and Walmart
Shame I couldn't go, would have loved to meet Huw, CapnRex, Pete, Yve and many other fans!
happy to hear they had a good number of sets so nobody missed out, well done on everyone one that helped out too
Excellent day at Bluewater. Total respect to Pete. Nice to meet some more Bricksetters in the flesh.
Is The Exo-suit in all LEGO stores yet? Or is it not til August 1st in all states? And was the price $35 USD?
First ever post on here, but have been using Brickset for a very long time (just had to get a new password to login). Was at Bluewater today, one of the few there before 9am with one of my little boys (had to wake him up at 5am!!! The Lego store manager gave him a free T-Shirt for getting up so early. A great day, said hello to Huw and got a poly bag. Exo-Suit is already built with the signed box sorted away. Good chats with people in the queue to get the box signed. Managed to get very near the front of that one too. Looked like everyone went away happy.
How much was the exo-suit?
Nice to see 3 on ebay already...........
£29.99
It's great to hear, that everyone, who came, got a set! Wish I could have been there too.
Was a good day, sorry I missed so many of you, and was nice to meet you Huw, even if it was very brief, you looked a busy man.
had a great time, was lovely to meet so many nice people. also, i made the joke about getting something signed to "dear ebay winner" but i notice someone has already put a signed exo-suit on ebay... suddenly it's no so funny :(
They should have events like this in Rockefeller, then I'll actually be able to go!
Awesome day, Thank you Lego shop, Peter & team, Huw, Andy (minifigforlife) and Boothemightyhamster for making the morning a memorable day. First time I spoke to fellow AFOL's, wish I had more time!
As I passed by around 2.30pm, there were outside queue at all.
Heard Lego manager say he had collected more boxes from other stores, and had more he could call in were there continuous queues until 4pm.
Would be interesting to know how many they sold in the end.
Speaking of hauls, it doesnt relate to this but i managed to find the Fire vs Ice sets at my Mastermind on younge street newmarket! I got Eris Fire Eagle! They had Ice Mammoth, Phoenix Temple and ErisFire Eagle. Others i didnt see. They also had all the new speedirz
Got back into North Wales after the event. Missed finding Huw, but had a short chat with Pete, and longer one with Yve, whilst Pete cooled down and had a break... Thanks for putting the break off to finish the (then) short queue...
Talking to the manager, and he got extras from other places, so his initial 380 went up to 450. Think most went. As I was heading back I calling into Milton Keynes, and noticed them on sale there as well (unsigned of course)... Anywhere else selling them early??
quite jealous. The set looks marvelous and the pictures show that it was a great deal of fun.
Really good day. Great to meet so many of you. Thanks to Huw for the poly, and thanks to Bluemoose for the artcards!
Roll on the next excuse for a Brickset get together!
Well i want a brickset get together somewhere in either Newmarket, Richmond Hill or Toronto, i live in newmarket and the farthest ive been is Niagra Falls, but the farthest i can go for a get together is Toronto with my Grandma.
For KFOLs, as im 11
So are other LEGO stores selling early? Any in the US? I called my local one yesterday, but it sounded like they were committed to 8/1
There is a buy now button on LEGO.com in the UK but it takes you to a product not available page, so i'm not sure LEGO knows when its for sale.
@woodywood - From reports on the forum all of the UK Lego stores were selling the Exo-Suit yesterday. All things considered an excellent business decision :-) Milton Keynes were selling theirs quickly whilst I was there.
Dang it! Wish I was there :)
It was a great day and my first time joining an event with lego AFOLs. Peter, Huw and Andy are really nice guys. I saw peter already got sweat on his T-shirt at the beginning of signing. and thank you Huw and Andy for your gifts. it just made the day even more wonderful. I was probably the only Chinese there. didn't see any others before I left. I also had good chats with the people in the queue. I guess that's "mrellisc".:) Your son must be very excited for the T-shirt given from the Lego store.
It's really an amazing day for everyone, really enjoyed it!!!
I think top marks have to be given to the whole launch team for all the effort put into this. And Bluewater staff were excellent (as usual), handling crowd control, co-ordinating the signing session and running the rest of the shop for the general public on a Saturday. I suspect there were a few tired faces at the end of it who deserved a stiff drink when they got home.
@gavin830, it was good to meet you, and everyone else for that matter. If you want to get more involved with UK LEGO events it's well worth joining the Brickish Association http://www.brickish.org
Huw - did Dr Sinister's press team allow that photo to be leaked? Seeing our most glorious and munificent leader smiling brings our nation much happiness and productivity!
This sounds like it was a fantastic event - wish I could have been there!
Dear All, The event looks like fun, and i am sure i would've bought lots of goodies. Unfortunately i live in oxfordshire and it was a bit too far to travel what with a 6 year old and 4 month old, The 6 year old has caught my Lego addiction, which is good, but expensive.... Seeing my 7140 did the trick..
Does anyone have a signed copy of the exo-suit they can sell me, or know of a way of getting one, without the crazy ebay prices...
Thanks in anticipation
George

Bluemoose!
As part of Team Exo-Suit, could you just talk us through the team photo above, and tell us who's who, and how they contributed, please?
I'm sure it was a huge effort to get from original design idea to seeing the box on the shelf, and it would be great to know how everyone chipped in.
Cheers!
@Boo - most of that is probably covered at the link below -

Cheers!
I want to see better photos of the red and white Exo-Suit sat on the table next to Pete!
Did LEGO fix the instruction issues with the Exo-suit? Or do they still fall apart.

Now that I am back in Barcelona with the box still in my Hand luggage I just can say that it was a great event and completely worth what I paid to get there - even the 30 min. walk from my hotel. And I do not regret that I opened the box to get the manual signed - the set is for me and not for eBay.
Now I have at least two real life faces to names here, @Missing Brick, yes, you talked with me. It was nice to get to know you - and your family. And with Huw just two steps behind us, that was one of the most unforgettable moments of this day for me.
Thanks and maybe until another time.
@bluemoose - thanks very much! I'd spotted the Brazil version previously, but not this one. Very stylish :-)
@tobyde - you rule!!
@tobyde, sorry I didn't get to speak to you, you should have made yourself known!
I also was in attendance on Saturday and it was a real joy to meet so many people. I was one of the afore mentioned early birds that Shib saw at Bluewater around 07:40 and I then joined Brickset memeber David83 who had driven up from Plymouth with his partner and also joining us was another fellow bricksetter from Leicester with his son. Also would like to say thank you to Huw for the Poly Bag and Andy for the pauldron. It was great to meet so many of the brickset community
(Sorry if i've forgot names) I got back to Leicester only to have to take my son Hospital so only finished my exo suit half an hour ago and thought i do a quick post before bed.
And one last thing a "MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS!!!" to the man himself Peter Reid "All hail the conquering AFOL...... thanks for signing my sets and also thanks Yvonne ( Yve ) for signing them as well.
With fleaBay auctions finishing at around £60, those who bought two signed sets with one to keep and one for selling look to be getting the 'keeper' for free.
Kudos goes to Pete though, for designing a set that gets past review, being part of the pre-release tease and for attending a signing meet and greet on release day - a top fella! :-)
Would have loved to attend :-(
@Huw, we did speak to each other, only some short words. I was the one with the red shirt, around 12:40h, I belief, in the queue outside the store. Our little word-exchange was later inside the store, still waiting to get the set signed. But if you don't remember me it is completely my fault as I am not the most proactive person (and I was thinking all the time "Is it he or not?"), bad habit of not starting conversations if it is not necessary :( even if I'll miss something. Sorry for that.
@gavin830, yes that was me behind you in the line. It was good to meet you too and others. It was my first AFOL event too, even tho I had one of my two miniFOL's with me. I hope I can go to something else again. It was good to actually talk to adults about Lego and see all the enthusiasm everybody has about this great plastic brick. Not quite the same excitement and reaction when talking to people at work.
Hope to see people again soon
Sounds like a good day by all. Any plans for a signing in the US?
