Quick look: 60474 F1 Grid with VCARB & Sauber Race Cars
Posted by Huw,
60474 F1 Grid with Visa CashApp RB & Sauber Race Cars is one of six City Formula 1 sets that have just been released, ahead of this weekend's opening race of the season in Melbourne.
The ten teams' cars are distributed among them and this one contains two of the least popular and least successful in last year's championship, so, on the face of it, it doesn't have a lot going for it.
Summary
60474 F1 Grid with VCARB & Sauber Race Cars, 313 pieces.
£24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 | 8.0p/9.6c/9.6c per piece.

A fun set for young fans of Formula 1
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Minifigures
The 313-piece set contains three minifigures of which two are the cars' drivers. The VCARB figure on the left wears white overalls with blue stripes down the side, matching that worn by last year's drivers.
The female Sauber driver's kit also matches last year's team overalls, but without gambling sponsor Stake's logo on the front.
The third figure is a race official wearing what I presume is a high-vis jacket or sweatshirt.
The completed model
In addition to the two cars the set contains a start line gantry and a platform for the official to stand while waving the chequered flag at the end of the race. It's quite a substantial structure, and I particularly like the use of the relatively new 1x4 curved pieces for the Armco barriers along the sides of the structures.
There's a mechanism behind the lights on the gantry, operated by sliding the printed F1 tile from side-to-side, which enables them to be changed from all red to off, signalling the start of the race.
Other than the pair of juniorised vehicles in 4+ 60464 F1 Williams Racing & Haas F1 Race Cars, all the cars in this year's City F1 sets are identical in design. They are quite substantial, being 6-studs wide and 14cm long. I would say that they are much larger than minifig scale, particularly in height.
Despite that, the figure only just fits in the cockpit and has to lean back unnaturally. The top of Ithe helmet is above the protective halo which defeats the object of it!
The livery of last year's Sauber closely matches that of this year's car, which is fortunate.
However, the 2025 VCARB is quite different to 2024's which was predominantly blue and white and replicated fairly faithfully here.
Verdict
City F1 sets are not designed to appeal to adults -- there are Speed Champions and Technic sets for us -- so there is no point me evaluating this one with them in mind.
They are, of course, meant for kids to play with and considering it on that basis, I think it has a lot going for it. Young F1 fans will have fun with the start lights play feature and zooming the cars across the table under the gantry. Some might worry that the cars are not from top teams, but I suspect that most won't care.
I'm not sure that it's worth £24.99/$29.99/€29.99, though, and for now it seems to be a LEGO exclusive, so won't be available for less any time soon, unfortunately.

Not bad, just a generic little set.
“ The VCARB figure on the right wears white overalls with blue stripes down the side…”
The VCarb figure is in the left, not the right. :)
“ lean back unnaturally”
This is actually closer to the real driver positioning than the Speed Champion sets…
There should ideally be something to raise the front of the halo by 1 or 2 plates.
Yeah, check out the seating position on modern F1 cars – drivers are reclined very far and their feet are higher up than their butts. For a minifig, I think this is pretty close.
LEGO Club Max hair, my beloved
It's a nice little race set, never mind the teams represented: just a green car and a blue and white car!
These sets are starting to remind me of the 2015, 2016 Speed Champions sets. Funny how we came a full circle.

Really the main issue with minifigures leaning back is that their "necks" can't tilt forward to face forward even when reclined. So it looks less like they have their eyes on the road even when their bodies are close to the correct position.
Earnestly a positive that the Sauber car in this set lacks the dubious sponsors. The green and black is a nice livery marred by its association to KICK and Stake. I don't know much about the F1 teams themselves, but it makes it a more agreeable Lego product than an unmodified 77247.
The third figure in this set is actually just Jason from Lego city: No limits
I haven't noticed the platform before.

They sometimes (maybe always?) have a so called ‘celebrity’ waving the chequered flag. I don‘t pay attention to the waver, but at least once they waved the flag a lap early. Just looked it up, Winnie Harlow at the 2018 Canadian GP. Pele also messed it up.
Of course they put the joke of a team (Sauber) in an overpriced joke of a set
I quite liked this one.
I thought it was going to be an exclusive, or otherwise hard to find, because it didn't come out in January (here in Australia) with the rest of the city stuff.
But it's recently appeared in all the main department stores. which I was glad to see.
Reminds me a bit of 6337 or 6381, though I much prefer the older sets with the baseplates.
It would have made more sense to have bundled the two Red Bull cars together in one set, to minimise disruption across the theme. This whole theme has been a clusterf..k of poor decisions in all honesty, with no real common sense applied. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall of the meetings at LEGO HQ where they made decisions on this theme.
With that said, I think LEGO could have made more of an effort to build a better set for each of the cars in the theme. The additional parts included here were actually unnecessary, and would have been better if they had just sold the cars separately like the McLaren. After buying the F1 Truck and Ferrari pit stop sets, there's very little here to attract me to buy this or any of the remaining City F1 sets.

Spotted this set amongst other Formula 1 cars in Sainsbury's on the weekend, so may be available at discount in the future!

But if anyone is interested in how to make these two 4+ cars look just like the rest of the City F1 cars, you can watch this: https://youtu.be/vzH4x4skVIU
