You're convincing me not to buy it then?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Eh, pass for me for now. Would rather pay 200 and lose the sidebuilds (still overpriced, but at least I wouldn't get the random crap that takes up space).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

But what about the new Teddy Bear?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The FOMO is strong with this one.

I suspect they know pairing with set specific GWPs works well so maybe next week with the River Steamboat.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Living in Middle Earth, I mean New Zealand, I've always been able to easily access the real Shire, because it's my neighbours house!

Gravatar

What time will it go on sell for UK insiders on the 2nd?

Not available in Norway at the moment. Is it midnight British time for the entirety of Europe?

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Not available in Switzerland an Hour ago. And still not available now an Hour later (UK Time)

Gravatar
By in France,

Still not available... strange

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

Slovakia... Still not available. Is it available somewhere?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Got it including the GWP, went live 01:05 here in Sweden.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Got it! Czech Republic

Gravatar

OK just purchased the Shire with Smeagol & Deagol plus the Easter Bunny :-)

Nice one Huw, cheers

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Ordered — and supporting Brickset by doing so — with the GWPs, plus 40786, whose code I had secured a month ago already…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, five years on and Lego's website still cannot handle a bit of traffic at midnight.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Panic over :-) Available in Switzerland and ordered incl. the two GWP. Still strange it went online an Hour after Midnight European Time

Same :-D I wonder how they manage the stock of these Insiders gifts, as surely not all codes are used, some people let them expire, so how they can calculate to fullfill all the actual orders? Hmm...

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Bought three. Thank you.
Now it is The Shire.

I always get the code immediately before I place the accompanying order, so I don't have to worry about that.

Hey, when they fail to send you the GWP, just remember, it could be worse. They could strangle you before taking back the GWP!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not able to buy it in the US despite it being midnight here. Anyone else having this issue?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still not available in the US.

Good thing I ordered pizza, this might end up being a long night.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Same- can't buy it rn

Gravatar
By in United States,

Should be available in the US now but oddly says available on the 5th even though I’m signed in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They might be fixing it now, the site currently says "Coming Soon on {date}"

Same issue here. No way it sold out in 2 minutes, right?

Gravatar

The US site is begging for mercy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Same, can't buy it yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego must not want my money, this shouldn't be this hard. Buy bigger servers or more IT guys, we are paying plenty of $!

Seriously Lego! Also can't buy The Shire...

I LOVE Lego tech people!! Almost as awesome as Lego Customer Service!!

Somebody help me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surely they provision resources to scale based on past releases? Right? Right guys?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I bet once it goes live, LEGO kicks us from the site and makes us wait in a queue. lol

That’s a given

Gravatar
By in United States,

Almost 30 mins after midnight eastern time…. Still can’t order in canada

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess they know we will still buy it, so why fix the website asap?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Geez, this is truly pathetic. 30 minutes in and still nothing… Get it together Lego!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

You can tell they're working. The free gifts pop up and disappear, the 2x points appears and disappears. {date} comes and goes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is there a reason Lego does this with every big launch? Are they deceiving the fans about the launch time on purpose? Or are they doing the same dumb thing time after time after time?

Neither one sounds like believable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So Smeagol and Deagol is live, but the actual set still isn't.

Pretty sure every time this happens, they've got an entirely new IT team, who are frantically reading books explaining how to do the job, only to quit immediately afterwards in frustration.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I do not recall Barad-dur being so crazy. I was in and out in 5.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad I'm not alone in this lol

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well that’s fun…the GWP is listed…but the set isn’t.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One does not simply order a set from LEGO’s website on launch day

Gravatar
By in Canada,

painful. changing location to the uk lets me add it to cart but nothing more. how can they screw up this bad every time?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think the intern flipping the switch is dyslexic. It keeps switching from {date} back to the 5. Clearly they are trying to hit the 2 and kept hitting the 5

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new Disney castle now shows up but no dice on the Shire. Sigh.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think a better way is to do what Apple does with new releases where the site is unavailable for a few minutes while the new stuff is being deployed. Better that than a semi-broken state.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely glad I don't live on the East Coast. This is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I feel sorry for anyone on the east coast trying!

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's been 45 minutes, how is the site STILL broken.

It feels like LEGO saw all the (deserved) negative feedback and decided to take it as a cue not to prepare for a big launch. Little do they know that all of us are planning to buy the set only to return it a week later and keep the GWP...

No, they need to fire someone. If everyone else can get it right, and one team simply can't, it's not the tech that's the problem. Besides, they said they were upgrading their tech so this would be a thing of the past. I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be done with that upgrade at least 18 months ago. That's long enough to create _two_children_.

I tried to take a nap before midnight and accidentally slept past my alarm an hour. So luckily I only had about 30 minutes of anxious refreshing lol

I can't recall the add to cart button, nor the GWP, nor the email confirmation. I'm naked in the dark. There's nothing--no veil between me and the Coming Soon April 5th."

By in Netherlands,

I just placed my order here in the Netherlands. I already had the set in my wanted list, but when I clicked on it I got a 404 error message. Also when clicking on the product via the Icons page I got the same error. Pressing directly on the button to put the product in my shopping cart did the trick.

It seems that here in the Netherlands the GWP is still available for online purchases (but note that I have yet to receive a confirmation of my order).

I appreciate everyone posting about the delay in the USA, as it kept me from panicking, knowing that it wasn't an issue with my phone/laptop. And since nobody was able to purchase it in North America, I knew it wasn't selling out before I could get my order in.

Thanks, y'all.

Don't be so sure.

For Barad-dûr, I purchased within the first 15 minutes, and my order was confirmed before being canceled (just the GWP, mind you) a week later.

There's only one way to be sure, line up in the morning and get it at the store.

Still available with GWP in the UK. So there was no need to wait up late at night to buy again. Stock levels are greater than fomo levels.

It's always a gamble. The last LoTR GWP went pretty quickly, and obviously during the pandemic sets went within 20 minutes. Lego have clearly improved stock levels, but they seriously need to beef up their servers and looks like the Americans felt the worst of it.

When one wonders why mediocre sets are priced at double their worth, you can get the answer by reading this comment section. It was an amusing read even though I will never be buying this set.

GWP is still there - I was in Leicester Square earlier this morning and there was little to no buzz about Bag end and plenty of Sméagols and Deagols. Got myself some Gunpla from Forbidden Planet and a posh coffee instead, I had a lovely morning! The pick a brick wall had some fern elements too - happy days!

Unfortunately even getting beyond the In Process is no guarantee! I placed an order last year which went all the way through and shipped before this gem popped up on the UPS tracking website:

The package has been damaged. All merchandise has been discarded and the sender will be notified.

I was lucky I noticed it on the last day of the GWP and they still had some available so customer service was able to enter the full order for me again!

I wasn't so lucky. My order went from In Process to Waiting for Stock to Backorder to Canceled to Mt. Doom. (which I'd never seen before)

More than a dozen calls, emails, and discussions over the course of a year resulted in me getting told that the Fellbeast sold out in less than 15 minutes even though they continued to offer it online for the next 8 hours. Makes no sense.

When I tried to order the Nazgûl torsos from PaB, that was another trip there and back again. Almost 6 months it took and countless calls, emails, and discussions with supervisors (frontline Lego CS reps are beyond useless).

All told, I got about $125 in VIP points and my $125 PaB order was free. Yet, at my hourly rate for the time I spent it was like throwing my life into the fires of Mordor. (please roll the 'r's heavily or at least pronounce it like you have something to cough in the back of your throat)

Fellbeast and Barad-Dûr are the only two sets still missing from my collection. :(

I queued this morning at my local LEGO store.

11 of us in the end, 6 of whom showed up 5 mins before opening.

They had 60 Shires with GWPs available. I imagine they will still have stock now.

Very different to Barad-dûr where there were 24 available and more than 24 of us in the queue.

By in United States,

Just talked with customer support. Apparently they learned from the one that people wanted 8-9 copies (depending on whether or not you were waiting on a bigger fell beast with a non-spirit Witch-King minifig to complete the team), and they made sure that the one that everyone here has been complaining they shouldn't have even made had plenty of stock. I don't know by what factor, but seeing as the day is 2/3rds over and they aren't at the bottom of the stack, there's probably at least one or two zeros added to the quantity they ordered. So, uh, bonus for non-VIP chumps who wait until the 5th to order, maybe?

While I was on the phone, I also threw out the following ideas:

1. Make sure midnight launches take place at midnight (yeah, right).
2. Make the queueing system automatic, instead of requiring someone to make a WAG as to whether or not they're about to get bum-rushed by angry AFOLs.
3. Make the queueing system work for the Rewards Center, too, and not just for the main shopping site.
4. Do something to make it easy to tell which VIP codes have been used and which are still waiting for you to claim something. I honestly don't care if this involves adding a status indicator to the current system, or if there should be another tab that shows you only the unused codes you have left on your account. Because that was my main reason for calling, and he couldn't tell any better than I if there were any hiding in the very long list.
5. I was nice, and didn't ask that someone get fired over how frequently the site still goes belly up during launches. But I so, so wanted to. Like, I would have warm fuzzy feelings for the next week if they came right out and said that someone's job got Déagoled over how long it's taking them to figure out what to do to prevent the site from going full Launchpad McQuack on days that they really should expect to get hammered. Run out of GWPs because you didn't think the set would be that popular? Okay, fine, I know that, especially with some of the one-off stuff, it's really hard to anticipate how popular they're going to be, but plan for the worst every time, man!

But they _didn't_ figure it out. This should go like clockwork. Midnight of launch day arrives, and the set should automatically go on sale, the queueing system should automatically kick in when server load gets high enough, and frenzied AFOLs should miraculously be able to get in and out in five minutes so they can go to bed. And if need be, sets should be restricted to Limit 1 on release day, and _increased_ to a higher Limit number once they see what initial demand is like.

I got burned on that last bit once, when they released a hardcover book in a slipcase, with Limit 3. I was a good AFOL and only ordered one copy for myself. Then they realized they were getting bum-rushed by speculators who were scooping them up to flip on eBay. So they cancelled all outstanding orders, reduced it to Limit 1...but didn't clear the data from our order history. So, after getting the cancellation notice, I hopped on to place my order again, and was told that I'd already bought one copy, and that's all I was allowed. By the time a human clocked in to answer phones, the limited quantity had long since been sold out, and there was no way to reinstate my order without cancelling someone else's. This is the kind of panicked, fly-by-night response we've come to expect on big launch days, especially when it's not a day when they know to expect heavy traffic. This seems to be limited to January 1st, May 4th, and Black Friday. All other times of the year, it's like they're standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon and trying to hit a dart board that's sitting at the bottom.

Had it not been for the GWP I would’ve passed on it. I factored it into the price of the set(which I understand is meaningless to the point being made).

The Shire is still available as is the GWP about 24 hours later...
Limit 3 and still available.. I think that speaks a bit to the demand especially as the GWF is still available (knowing how LEGO usually 'shorts' the GWP numbers).
