Random set of the day: The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6857 The Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape, released during 2012. It's one of 14 DC Comics Super Heroes sets produced that year. It contains 380 pieces and 5 minifigs, and its retail price was US$39.99/£39.99.
It's owned by 8,278 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $74.80, or eBay.

I've always liked this set. So fun to play with.
Escape? I dunno man, Batman kind of looks like he's leaving Robin there. I guess he's expendable, there's always another not too far away.
Why does the Gotham Funland theme from LEGO Batman 2 remind me of Waves by DJ Satomi
This set reminds me of 7199 a bit.
I remember thinking this set was a big deal but I don't remember exactly why. Maybe I was still on a kick of thinking mines were the coolest thing with Temple of Doom and learning about geology (which 7036 satiated; by the time 7199 came out I already had the prior set so it wasn't as exciting) and the roller-coaster(?) was close enough to a minecart. Maybe it was the minifig selection?
I wouldn’t say think that Joker and Riddler would get along.

7199 definitely has more rail.

It's not just the rail, the whole set reminds me of it.
@Alia_of_AGL:
I ended up with three copies of this set, which is pretty unusual for me, and I'm pretty sure it was over the minifigs. Where 7886 had a Harley Quinn that looked like her original B:TAS appearance, this set had one that looked more like her redesign for TNBA. The new Robin was another bonus, and a year later I ended up grabbing a small stack of 30166 just to get more of the Robin torsos and heads.

This was a pretty remarkable offering back then for the msrp. I ended up with two copies of this set.
An O.G. Batman set!
@Rimefang:
Two for me is standard, so I can strip the minifigs from one copy and use them in club displays.
@BabuBrick:
First year of DC Superheroes, if you don't count the two 2011 SDCC minifigs.

Nope. The "O.G" sets were the ones from 2006-2008. Before they changed the theme to 'DC Comics Super Heroes'
Why would the string not go through the 1x2 Clamp?
Edit: It’s supposed to. Just checked the instructions. All the renders are wrong.
This was a pretty great value for the time. It's the one villain base that could be bought for the first few years (excepting Arkham), had the only new Harley Quinn and Riddler figures for the first few years, and was the cheapest set with Robin (ignoring the inconvenient-to-obtain polybag the next year). The 'traps', unsubtle as they were did add a nice play experience too.
I like how you can make essentially the same track layout (a 2-brick difference in ramp elevation notwithstanding) but in any of three different track colors with either two copies of 41130, or four copies of 7199, or one copy of 7065 and eight copies of this.
@SearchlightRG: Well...there was that one episode of 'Justice League Action' where Eddie 'absent mindedly' ate Mister J's doughnut in Arkham's mess hall, so there IS that...:D
Kinda' liked the look of this set; wish the rails were 'standard' L-Gauge, but then again: railways tend not to build up hills (friction, gravity, momentum, and all that:))

Nevermind that the Batcycle and Joker are just floating in zero-G, there's some severe distortion going on in this render, if you check the angle at the base of the rails vs the plates under the structure at the extreme right. And the Riddler's pose is physically impossible on at least two counts. It's sitting cockeyed on the stud, and the heel looks like it would be intersecting the riser.
This is one of my favourite DC Comics sets. Just a really fun playset, with plenty to enjoy at a good price point. Really glad I picked it up.
I’m guessing that booth with Riddler’s head in it is supposed to be some kind of fortune teller machine, because otherwise this set just went super dark
Suprised this isn't worth MORE on the aftermarket, but I could also see it selling pretty well among AFOLs when it was first released. Could be heavier supply than other OG Batman sets.
I wish the Marvel and DC themes still had playsets like this.
Loved this set when it came out.
Me and my son enjoyed it immensely.
Reminded us of the Lego Batman game we also both loved.
I know this is clearly Tim Drake's Robin in the set but Joker, Robin, a crowbar, and the classic gray and blue Batman being in the same set feels like more than a coincidence
I'm not a huge Super Heroes guy, but this seems like a great set. I like the carnaval styling.
Love that buff Riddler! Miss those sloped ladder pieces too, they're gorgeoues
This set reminds me of the Joker steel mill portions of the Arkham City game.

EDIT: An O.G. DC Comics Super Heroes set!
At this point, they should just change the theme name back to "Batman," if ya know what I mean.

Me too! I was really excited about this for exactly that reason. This and 6858 Catcycle City Chase gave major Arkham City vibes!

After how many times I found myself wanting more of the original Catwoman torso, I grabbed about an extra dozen copies of 6858 on clearance.

You know, I can't unsee it now! Looks like I'll be hunting this down on Bricklink then!

Yes, I do. Only one Superman set, like every 5 years.
