BrickLink/LEGO.com account integration coming soon
Posted by Huw,
Later in the year, LEGO is going to integrate LEGO.com and BrickLink user accounts, and you'll be required to have one of the former to be able to use the latter.
Here is a lengthy explanation of the implications of this and what you'll need to do when the time comes:
What does LEGO Account integration mean?
LEGO Account integration will create a single sign-in experience for both LEGO.com and BrickLink.com.
If you already have a LEGO Account, you’ll soon be able to merge it with your BrickLink account. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to create one and then merge it with your BrickLink account to keep using all your favourite BrickLink features.
In markets where the LEGO Group offers the LEGO Insiders program, a LEGO Account is created as part of signing up for LEGO Insiders.
What's changing?
While some things on BrickLink will change, your core experience will remain the same. LEGO Account integration will influence the following areas of your BrickLink experience:
- ID card pics
- Usernames and store names
- Privacy Policy
- Terms of Service
We’ll walk you through the details when it’s time for you to do something, but for now, here’s what you need to know:
ID card pics
All custom ID card pics will be removed just before the integration and replaced with a standard image. New profile images—called avatars—will be available when you integrate your accounts. These avatars will consist of preset images featuring LEGO minifigures and background colours, including updated versions of classic BrickLink profile pictures.
If you love your current ID card pic and want to save it, be sure to download it before autumn 2025. You’ll be able to download your custom ID card pic starting later this week.
Usernames and store names
Eventually, your LEGO Account nickname will become your public username on BrickLink. This change will not happen in autumn 2025 with LEGO Account integration but will happen in the months after the integration.
If your current username or store name doesn’t meet our guidelines for LEGO Account nicknames, we recommend updating it as soon as possible to secure your preferred name.
Privacy Policy and Terms of Service changes
LEGO System A/S will become a data controller for most of the activities and data processing on BrickLink, and our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service will be updated accordingly. We’ll send all BrickLink members more info closer to the integration, including links to the new Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
We’re excited about what’s ahead and grateful to have you along for the ride. While some things are changing, our commitment to our members and community remains as strong as ever, and we look forward to elevating your BrickLink experience.
As we take this next step together, know that our team is here to support you in making this transition as smooth as possible.
Thank you for making the BrickLink community so special and stay tuned for more updates, coming this summer.
The BrickLink Team
FAQ
What is a LEGO Account?
A LEGO Account is your sign-in for all LEGO online experiences. In most regions, this account is created when you sign up for the LEGO Insiders program.
Why are you integrating BrickLink accounts with LEGO Accounts?
Our mission is to make buying, selling, designing, and connecting on BrickLink as fun and rewarding as possible.
As part of this work, we’re bringing BrickLink accounts and LEGO Accounts together in one system. This means you’ll be able to easily switch between LEGO online experiences and keep all your information in one place.
We’ve made sure that the transition will be as smooth and easy as possible for all buyers, sellers, and designers on BrickLink.
When are you integrating BrickLink accounts with LEGO Accounts?
We’re hoping to roll out the new system in autumn 2025.
We’ll be sharing all the info you need and all relevant dates during the summer. So, watch this space!
BrickLink previously communicated about this change in 2022. Is that information still relevant?
Yes, but please use our new Help Page to get all the latest info – we’ll be keeping the page up to date as well as sending out emails as we introduce the new system. You can find our latest Help Page here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2670.
How will the integration of BrickLink and LEGO Accounts affect me?
Firstly, you’ll be asked to accept our revised Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We’ll send you an email as soon as they’re ready for you to accept.
Secondly, we’ll be changing the way your display name is shown on BrickLink.com. This change will not take place in autumn 2025 with LEGO Account integration but will happen in the future. After the change, the name shown on your BrickLink profile will be your LEGO Account nickname, not your BrickLink username.
Do I have to change my BrickLink ID card pic?
When we bring the account systems together, all ID card photos will be deleted automatically and replaced with a generic image. If you love your current ID card pic and want to save it, be sure to download it before autumn 2025. You’ll be able to download your custom ID card pic starting later this week.
New profile photos, called avatars, will be available after you integrate your accounts. These avatars will consist of preset images featuring LEGO minifigures and background colors, including updated versions of classic BrickLink profile pictures.
How do I read more about the changes to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy?
We’ll be sharing more info about the changes to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy this summer.
What happens to my BrickLink username when I integrate my accounts?
When the integration begins this autumn, your BrickLink username won’t change right away, but it will eventually be replaced by the nickname you have on your LEGO Account.
If you’d like to keep using your current name for your profile, please sign in to your LEGO Account (or create one, if you haven’t already) and change your nickname to the name you’d like to use on BrickLink.
Make sure that your BrickLink username or store name doesn’t go against our guidelines for LEGO nicknames (you can find them below). If they do, we recommend changing them ahead of time since these names will be moderated against the nickname guidelines in the future.
How do I know if my BrickLink username and/or store name doesn’t follow the LEGO Account nickname guidelines?
The LEGO Group created a set of rules that apply to all our websites and apps. It’s important to us that we live up to our values, and that all LEGO fans who visit us feel welcome and get the best possible experience.
The most important rule is that a nickname can’t include the word “LEGO,” or any other trademarks owned by the LEGO Group. Since “LEGO” is a protected term, it can’t be used commercially by individuals, communities, or organisations.
We want everyone to feel welcome and safe, so nicknames that contain upsetting, offensive, or unpleasant words aren’t allowed. If your nickname references religion, politics, or cultural topics, it may be rejected. Our goal is to create a space where everyone can share their LEGO creations, find inspiration, and connect with fellow fans.
How do I reserve my BrickLink username in the LEGO Account nickname system?
To update your LEGO nickname, please follow these steps:
- Follow this link to your LEGO Account.
- Click the “Edit” icon next to your avatar.
- Enter your nickname.
- Click “Submit” and wait a few seconds for your nickname to be approved.
What if my preferred LEGO nickname is already taken? What do I do?
If the nickname you’ve entered gets rejected or is already being used by someone else, then you’ll need to choose a different one. We know this can be disappointing, especially if it’s a name you’ve been using on BrickLink for a long time. You can make small tweaks to your nickname so your network can still recognise you.
Can LEGO nicknames be changed?
Absolutely! Once a LEGO nickname has been approved by our moderators, it’s locked for a period of 30 days — but after that, you can change it again if you’d like to.
You might get a randomly selected nickname when you first create your LEGO Account, but you can change it right away.
What happens if I don’t integrate my BrickLink account and LEGO Account?
You’ll have a specific time period to integrate your accounts. If your BrickLink account and LEGO Account aren’t integrated during this time, you won’t be able to sign in to BrickLink. You’ll only be able to use or view areas of the platform that are available to non-signed in users.

Seems interesting! A bit bummed about no custom profile pics anymore, though.
This is gonna be a disaster
Does that mean that those who have a LEGO account but no BrickLink account will be able to use BrickLink without having to create a new account?
Still don't understand what's the gain with this.

A tighter corporate grip. More playful graphics on Bricklink. Hopefully minimal changes to the parts database.

Theoretically, less systems to maintain and develop.
Can’t wait to have to jump through 2FA hoops every few days just to check on my own Wanted Parts lists.
I like my custom pic :(
Both websites have their issues and I can't imagine this goes smoothly.

The only thing that worries me, and forgive me if they mentioned it anywhere already, is the existing user feedback on BL profiles. I personally don't have a lot of feedback, but I can imagine that larger scale stores and sellers worry about it. Other than that, I don't really see much to be negative about here, aside from not having my rat as an avatar anymore :')

Agreed!
Also, with the LEGO .com's track record of spotty service and crashes (especially on new release days), I can't see this going well. I imagine a lot of people will migrate to Brickowl...
I’m taking a screenshot of my points
Not impressed.
For a while now I haven't been able to get into my Bricklink store, ever since they decided I should provide some special kind of ID in order to be allowed to keep my store open.
Generally that would have been fine with me, but the type of ID they require doesn't even exist in Germany, so I have no way to obtain it.
This is therefor the end of my hobby as an occasional Bricklink seller. Not that it was very worthwhile anyway, but at least it was a fun endeavour.
I should really try out BrickOwl.
Looks like Brickowl is the new Bluesky.
Until TLG buys Brickowl as well.
A slightly strange but not surprising decision. Seems like the obvious next step for the group. I prefer not to link different accounts too heavily, but this is reasonably understandable. Is it good? Probably not. Will it ruin the service? Also probably not individually, but as an earlier commenter referenced, making a service worse is usually a process that happens gradually...
Horrible decision. Nobody asked for this!

It's true, not having a custom profile picture on your Bricklink account is exactly like a fascist government
Grrr, already been told I can't have my Bricklink user name because "it has more than 4 numbers". I think this is going to cause a load of grief!
But, Lego won't be bothered, they want all that user data........

No mention of feedback in the press release, so there's a good chance that user feedback will be kept when a BL profile is merged with a Lego one. Unless something goes wrong during the changeover...

Finally, someone who gets it.
I just hope they stop asking for a verification code when logging into my Lego account. The worst part is that they send it to my email account and they don't text it. I really hate that. Seems like overkill to log into a toy website.
C'mon, who honestly wasn't expecting this to happen?
I wonder how long it will take, as they first announced the change almost three years ago and it was due to be implemented in 2023 ...

So... where is this Brickowl, everyone is talking about lately... time to move on, I guess.

I sure don't want to loose the feedbacks I received as a customer and a seller!
The other thing that was not clear to me was how this would affect store names. My profile id on BL is different from my store name. Hopefully we can keep the same store name because there are several stores I don't want to loose track of because they're awesome.
Dazed and confused.
This plain and simple sucks.
Hope this means eventually we can get VIP points from BL purchases, even if it's a fraction like the Target promotion a couple years ago

Bricklink fees are 3%. So if we get 5% of what they make on an order, that is 15c for a $100 order.
Minecraft players will remember the obnoxiously awful decision by Microsoft to force crappy all-in-one corporate accounts onto people who just wanted to play the funny block game.
LEGO fans will come to remember the obnoxiously awful decision by LEGO to force buggy, laggy, poorly-serviced customer accounts onto people who just wanted to make a list of the funny blocks they want.
I have both LEGO and Bricklink accounts so I doubt this will change up in my case - or I mostly people's cases, for that matter
Hopefully this doesn't kill sellers' ability to use 3rd party inventory management software.
My Bricklink name uses the word LEGO. But my equivalent LEGO nickname uses the word Brick instead. So I'll be safe after the merger.
I'm sure something will not go smoothly because that is expected. So just lower those expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised when it goes better than expected ;).
Are they on similar servers? Will Bricklink lead to crashes like the official website is?
TIME TO PANIC!!
Lego doesn’t like the fact I use Darth in my username. I just tried updating my Lego Insiders account. Guess my bricklink user name is going to change. Ah well.
Consolidating the two assumedly separate identity systems seams like a lot of work when they could of kept them independent and just linked them with the industry standard oauth protocols. So this is definitely a corporate play for more than rationalising costs reasons.
Will be more problematic for bricklink users that heavily invested in their stores.

Basically this.
If you like your LEGOcare plan, you can keep it.
(Off to create a LEGO nickname that matches a high profile BL seller)
So does this mean they’re actually going to improve the utter “hacked twice into oblivion” lack of security on Bricklink before letting people use that to backdoor their way into the LEGO.com servers? Because I haven’t even logged into my BL account since they forced onsite PayPal payments for the very specific reason that I could surf BL on devices that get to see the general internet, and issue payments on a device that was sheltered from getting anywhere near any site that could get hacked twice into oblivion and not actually fix the stupid frankencode that let someone waltz right on in _twice_ without much effort.
@PurpleDave said:

I suspect that one of the main reasons Lego is doing this is for that exact reason, to move as much of Bricklink from the poorly documented and secured bespoke Bricklink frankencode to the codebase that Lego.com runs on (which may also be frankencode, but at least it's frankencode that the Lego.com developers are familiar with).
I doubt it's a front line thought--certainly not next to userdata--but I wonder if one of the effects down the road will be to identify people buying on PaB and then reselling on Bricklink.

2FA that fails because it thinks you're a bot because you're using a password manager.
Anyone who’s ever done this corporately knows exactly what’s about to happen.
lol
I just won’t make Bricklink purchases until after the new year.
I was just hoping LEGO would share its parts info with BL so we wouldn’t have to wait a month for a new set parts inventory.
Why? Merging stuff never brings any positives
I wonder how this will effect mailing addresses and currencies if the accounts are linked. On both BL and LEGO.com I fluctuate between buying stuff in two different countries and currencies, but the way that happens is quite different. On BL I have to change my actual mailing/location address in my profile settings, whereas on LEGO.com it's just a matter of going to the right country version of the site.
For LEGO.com that should remain the same, but I hope this won't mess up the ability to do that on BL.
Don't see any upside to doing this from a customer or seller perspective. This is simply just annoying

I already have separate emails attached to my BL and LEGO accounts. We'll all be forced to integrate BL accounts with a LEGO account (or else set up a new LEGO account).
How will that make a difference for buying in different parts of the world?
Hmm, quite disturbing.
While I'm not happy about all the non-sensical quirks Bricklink has developed over the years, it still is one of the most complete (although still far from 100% and rather error-heavy) databases for anything TLG has released.
Everything this foreshadows will highly likely lead to Bricklink being doomed in the foreseeable future. Either being progressively absorbed into some new system or just dumped entirely in favor of it.
Luckily there are a few alternatives available to buy loose and old bricks (and I think those will increase a lot in popularity once BL goes full-on crazy with corporate incompetence).
Still a bit sad witnessing yet another relic of the "original" AFOL internet culture pass away...
Better start data-hoarding all the important stuff now, before it's gone for good.
Dear LEGO,
Get bent.
Signed,
Everyone
Ohhh good, I wanted to have to 'hyper secure' my LEGO password as well....
Bricklink is a bit dated, but still firmly "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Now I guess they're going to fix it...

We think alike. This was my first thought! My second was that I hope the history of being the original store user gets preference!
I've been using the same profile pic on BrickLink for over 10 years. This is really disappointing.

I've never heard of LEGO.com being compromised, so I'd assume their security consists of something more than taping a paper sign to the door that says "Stay Out!" The trick then is figuring out if there's a way to accomplish this merging without actually loading Bricklink on the same site that I use to sign into LEGO.com. Perhaps the safest way to do this would be to create a burner password for the latter, log into both sites on the "general internet" computer, and then immediately change the LEGO.com password on the "shopping & finances" computer. That would at least allow me to retain all the data and account history. Whether it gets me back into making purchases via BL remains to be seen.
There's only 1 season in my country so when's autumn?
And I wonder what's wrong with using actual months for the date?

Thanks to everyone shouting out BrickOwl; I'll take a deeper look at it. Prices also seem a little better than Bricklink surprisingly, but maybe that's just a first impression.

Hopefully Lego will get grip on scalpers asking ridiculous prices on BL.

Presumably this is why bricklink sellers were told about it three years ago, so they / we had first dibs on securing our user names.
@merman said:

The only way LEGO will do that is to flood the market with those parts or sets that have gone up in value due to high demand and low supply. Which of course could damage their own sales too.

They already do share that information. The problem is the information is not that useful since BL uses much more meaningful descriptions than LEGO oes. Basic parts are fine, but any printed parts or minifigure parts need to be added manually, and similarly minifigures and their inventories need to be catalogued manually as LEGO inventories do not include that information.
I won't get into how well the integration will go, but some speculation on where this might eventually be heading.
Imagine a day where you go to log in to Lego.com and you notice an extra button at the top of the page labelled "Bricklink Market". People who click this find that it's a place where you can find all of the retired sets and pieces that you can't get from Lego directly anymore, and where people can sell their unused or no longer wanted Lego to other people. No longer do you need to go to Ebay or other market places to buy Lego. Instead Lego.com becomes your one-stop location for all your Lego purchasing.
Then imagine that this isn't just a few hundred thousand AFOLs, but a much larger group of casual Lego buyers who would never have heard of Bricklink before, and have instead been buying and selling Lego on other (more general) platforms. Now they can buy from Bricklink as easily as they buy from Lego itself, and you have way more people using Bricklink and Lego getting a cut of every transaction.
This might sound far-fetched but I have to think that when Lego purchased Bricklink, part of the reason for that was an observation that on general online marketplaces around the world, Lego has become one of the most popular and active categories for buying and selling, and they wanted a slice of that action.
Now that they've got a slice, why wouldn't they want to go further, and one thing account integration does (after the pain of the transition process) is remove friction for people moving between platforms.
Hmm...trying to change my LEGO username to match my BL one. TLG says it may take 10 minutes. Been waiting 17 minutes now.....
:-((
I remember reading that the jargon term for combining two disparate systems wasn't to 'merge' them but to 'graunch' them. I'm going through this with my pension fund now: over two months since the systems were graunched and I still don't have any online access to my statements. Hope Lego have better developers.

There is a non-zero chance that the Hidden Side app-developers have been given this assignment as busy-work.
Quickly! Draw all your bricks from your bank and hide them in a sock under your mattress!
That would need to be a windsock!!
Surely the only thing preventing you from keeping seperate accounts if you wanted to, is using a different email address for lego.com and bricklink?
The only positive I could see (for buyers) is if they started offering insider points/use of points on both platforms. I spend far more on bricklink than I do on lego.com

I imagine the importance of this is more behind the scenes than any obvious benefit to users. Storing and protecting user data is a big deal these days. What is kept and where it is held is also important.
Preparing for assimilation!
What’s the worst that can happen? BL becomes ‘Pick-A-Bricklink’ at PAB prices but TLG keep the difference and all non-current inventory colours are banned?
Oh no.
So now Bricklink will finally be forced to update inventories in a timely manner and stop showing bias towards sets/themes that sell higher on the aftermarket, right? Right?
@yodaloop said:
"Thanks to everyone shouting out BrickOwl; I'll take a deeper look at it. Prices also seem a little better than Bricklink surprisingly, but maybe that's just a first impression."
BL policy says you can’t list product that you don’t actually own, so people who want to list the same stuff on both sites need inventory management software that will update one site when something gets sold on the other. Anyone who can’t get that set up is safer just picking one over the other, plus there are going to be sellers who refuse to use either site for personal reasons. Traffic probably still favors BL, so I’d expect there will be people who got kicked off the site, or who pointedly abandoned it, who not only have to compete with other BrickOwl sellers, but also have to draw traffic away from BL, and the easiest way to do that is with pricing.
@CCC:
BL also lumps many element ID numbers together under the same listing, even when they’re functionally different parts, because sellers can’t be bothered with figuring out which version they got their hands on.
@KingLego:
It’s no secret that, after Dan’s mother sold the site, Bricklink stopped focusing on their existing market and started chasing two completely unrelated ones. BLDP is the result of one, where they repeatedly attempted to turn the site into a place where you could buy original designs in some capacity, and the other major focus they’ve had is trying to outcompete Amazon and eBay for casual customers who only want to buy a single set and move on with their lives.
@classicstylecastle:
My read on this is that you’d need one LEGO.com account for direct purchases, and a second LEGO.com account to access Bricklink going forward. That’s more likely to get flagged than simply not merging the two different accounts under the current split system.
So tried to change my user name on Lego to match my Bricklink name two hours ago, it's still being checked.....

Indeed, no reason to believe they remembered they wanted to do something like this.
The goal is to extinguish Bricklink in its current form, pure and simple. TLG will in time phase it out in favour of PaB which has a higher profit margin. And then buy the next biggest independent brick trading platform and - rinse and repeat.
Needless change with no benefit to the customer.
As others have said, get bent.

Yeah, I eventually gave up. I suspect that the "10 minutes" is the estimate for normal times, and they were experiencing higher-than-usual demand on their servers. And we all know how robust their servers are...
So am I reading this right, I need to change my Lego site nickname to match my Bricklink user name? Not very technical minded so just checking I'm not going to lose my accounts :)
What if I sell on BL but only buy for my Personal collection on LEGO?
Now I need a second LEGO account to match my BL account?
My BL account is 22 years old and has a very common name in it and a custom avatar.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

"Still don't understand what's the gain with this."
The gain is only Lego's. They're doing this for their own data research. They will know our purchases on our Lego accounts, and now also know our Bricklink activities, because we have to couple it together. They can get a sneaky picture of all of our spending habits. Before this integration, they don't know who is who. This is monopolistic behavior by the company, and nothing to gain for us. I do not like it.
Just lower your prices TLG! Or you shall lose many.
Vote with your wallet, as best as possible!

I think it’s the other way around, and you need to change the BrickLink name to match the LEGO site nick. It’s the BL name that may not satisfy the guidelines.

Please, you’re making me well-up!
This is likely to go badly. :-(
