Random minifig of the day: min071
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random minifigure is min071 Blaze - Trans-Brown Cone Stand, a Minecraft figure that came in one set, 21154 The Blaze Bridge, released during 2019.
Our members collectively own a total of 5,042 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $3.10.

What is this abomination!!??
One might say, "that's no minifigure!"
The lighting makes it that much creepier too.
Interesting execution for a blaze. I’m still on the fence about whether or not brick-built characters should be Minifigures.
Another one of those sort-of-a-repeat-but-not-really RMoTDs: https://brickset.com/article/95375/random-minifig-of-the-day-min022

Personally, I like the 2015 version better.
It looks like it’s mid-explosion.
Blaze LORE!!!
Blazes are creatures made out of swirling torrents of fire that live in the Nether. They only spawn in Nether Fortress, typically out of Spawner blocks that create hordes of them. They are capable of flinging flurries of fireballs at the Player and setting their surroundings ablaze, as well as pelting the Player with their Rods as a melee attack. In addition to all the typical forms of damage, Blazes are one of the few* Mobs that can be harmed by Snowballs. As with most Nether Mobs they are immune to fire and lava damage.
The main purpose of fighting Blazes is to kill them for their Blaze Rods. These have a few functions related to brewing potions and accessing The End. The Blaze Rod itself can be used to craft a Brewing Stand for brewing potions, or ground up in to Blaze Powder. Blaze Powder can then be put into the stand either as fuel to heat it and start the brewing process, or as an ingredient to brew a Potion of Strength. Blaze Powder can also be combined with Ender Pearls to craft an Eye of Ender. These Eyes can be thrown to locate the End Portal, and then placed into the portal's frame to activate it.
The Blaze has a few close relatives, the Breeze and the Wildfire.
The Wildfire (aka the Hovering Inferno) is a slightly larger version of a blaze. It wears a jeweled crown and rather than simple Blaze Rods is circled by four burning Shields. These must be disabled to reach the Rod and head at its core to deal damage. The Wildfire was never implemented into the base game (after loosing a Mob Vote) but did end up as Miniboss in Minecraft Dungeons.
Breezes are essentially an air version of the Blaze. They can be fought in Trial Chambers where they use their huge jumps and trap activating Wind Bursts to flee from and heckle the Player.
One major matter of debate on the Blaze is when they came into existence in the lore. During the Piglin War of Legends the vast majority of their army were "Blaze Runts," small Piglins that used Blaze Rods as spears, which would imply the Piglins harvested Blaze for weapons. However Blazes are only ever found around the Human-made Nether Fortresses, and typically around Mob Spawners fueled by the Flames of Creation. Humans (at least seemingly) never entered the Nether until after the Piglin War, and it was that war that prompted the Hosts to gift Humanity the Flames of Creation. Which came first, the Blaze or it's Rod?
*If memory serves, the Blazes are the only Mob that can currently be hurt by Snowballs, but the Ender Dragon used to be.
It looks like the photo was taken in 1993.

That's impossible. Where are the colorful sofas and the tube TV?

Aren’t all minifigures technically brick built, albeit with some quite specialised pieces?

It may be better aesthetically, but the spinning bits really bring the newer one to life

No, the speciality of the pieces, not the assembly of parts, determines if they’re brick built or not. There were dragons that you needed to assemble such as Smaug and the Fantasy Era ones that are considered moulded creatures. Crocodiles/alligators are too.
You could argue that the minifigure head is not a specially designed part as it has found many other uses: globe, brain, watermelon, fishbowl, lamp, lantern to name a few. But it was created as the minifigure head and was used that way exclusively for years. The fact that it has been repurposed doesn’t ex-post change the intention.

There's no cool furniture in the shame closet. ;)
I'm totally making one of these (probably with a wither head) for my Mos Eisley display.
I guess you can't kill it with fire...

But you can still nuke it from orbit! Assuming you can acquire/craft nukes and a means to lift them into orbit in this game, that is.

I'm pretty sure there's a mod that allows space travel. But the Nether (which is the only place these are found) doesn't have space to travel in, it's just a huge cavern.

But Minecraft is famous for having portals, so you can still be in orbit and send stuff pretty much anywhere through portals.

But unless they've done something in an update since I last played the game, or I'm misremembering, you can't send anything through a portal, you have to take them through the portal, which leaves you back where you started. Booby traps are the better option.
