It's our 25th anniversary today!

Posted by ,

On 14th July 2000 at 08:51 BST I announced on Lugnet that Brickset.com was live!

Those of you that were around at the time, or who have read about the history of the site, will know that it actually started life a few years before in the early days of the Internet as a 'personal home page' on my Internet service provider's server in 1997, and later at Brickset.co.uk. However, having registered this domain on 10th July and set things up in the following days, I consider 14/7/2000 to be the birth of the site as it is today.

It was not the first LEGO fan site, or indeed the first LEGO database, but it's certainly been one of the most enduring. Others that were around at the turn of the century, for example Lugnet, Peeron, and Brickshelf may still be live but are now a mere shadow of their former selves. In fact the only other LEGO fan site founded in that era that is still flourishing is BrickLink, which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this month.

I believe the reason it's survived for so long, and why it's one of the most visited LEGO fan websites, is because of you, our members. It's not just a news site and database, it's a thriving community of people with a shared interest. So, I'd like to thank all 355,000 of you for helping to make it what it is today.

We'd love to hear how and when you first discovered Brickset and what it means to you. Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for some exciting activities in the coming days.

Here's the original announcement on Lugnet:

The home page of the site in 2000:

If you'd like to read more out the site's history, we published a couple of articles for the 20th anniversary: Brickset 2000-2007 and Brickset 2008-2020. I'll write one covering the last five years later this week.

Always good to have a milestone like this! Though it does make me curious how many members here are actually younger than the site; I think the general audience here skews towards older but there’s definitely some people on the younger side

By in New Zealand,

I can't help but feel you're 30ish, as I was visiting 'Huw and Stu's' Lego guide for some years before the Brickset.co.uk and later .com iterations.

Thank you again for the hard work and excellent resource, and keep it up.

By in New Zealand,

Happy Birthday. I was born 12 July 1956 so same birth month. I started collecting LEGO in 1985 so I am celebrating 40 years of LEGO in my life. I started up my own Bulletin Board System in 1992 so I could get a Fidonet feed of rec.toys.lego. When the Internet became avaliable Lugnet was my first source of info then Brickset.

By in United Kingdom,

"I need a Lego database where I can log all my sets!" I probably thought on a rainy day in May 2014. One Google search and 11 years later, here I still am on one of the very few websites I try to visit every single day. Congratulations on 25 years Huw, and here's to the next 25!

Brickset is by far my favorite thing on the internet. I use it far too much, it's just so useful, and I enjoy reading articles and commenting on Random set and minifig of the day, which gives be something to look forward too. I really appreciate what you've done here. Happy anniversary!

Happy birthday Brickset!

I discovered it around 2010, after coming out of my dark ages during 2009.

It took me another 5 years to getting around to registering however!

Since then, Brickset has constantly been on my daily check sites and has been an invaluable resource of parts, sets news and reviews.

Here’s to another 25 years ??

Happy birthday Brickset!

I learned about this site through... Google. When I came back from my dark ages in 2015 a few sites kept popping up while searching for sets from my childhood. Bricklink, brickset and brothers brick and then new elementary. 10 years later these are my go to websites when it comes to lego.

Congratulations Huw, what a wonderful achievement, and what a wonderful site! My 'Welcome to Brickset' email dates back to May 16 2007, though my profile simply states "Member since Before November 2010." I do seem to remember a glitch in the database back then...
And for all those years, Brickset is my go to daily and favorite LEGO site, and was probably instrumental in my way back from the dark ages...
Way to go, and thank you kindly for this top notch site.

By in United States,

Thanks you so so much for your continuous work on this site. This is by far the BEST Lego database EVER and sometimes i wonder how come Lego hasn't made an offer to buy it (like they've recently acquired Bricklink) since it's by far the most comprehensive and extensive Lego database I've ever seen.

You are always my first port of call for anything new or related to the Lego world and i absolutely ADORE being able to put my whole collection on here, from my Duplo days to first gen Castle and Pirates to the latest minifigures. It's been a veritable joy, both actual and vicarious, to ride the wave of nostalgia hand in hand with the latest sets as i scan through the database.... It's almost like The Vault in Billund but online (and really, it should officially be too!!)

It's always a pleasure to contribute, comment, and discuss whenever i can and despite the differences in ages, distance, and countries, i always feel at home reading and posting here and sharing comments with the users.

If Bricklink had a brick for every line of code it uses, it'd easily be an awesome and truly epic build and it quite clearly is here in the virtual online world!

You continue to make Lego users and fans so happy with this godsend of a site and the fact that it's still here two decades and a half later after navigating past the wobbly beginnings of tje worldwideweb speaks for itself! Congratulations and Happy bricking birthday! Joyeux anniversaire ! Feliz ano ! Buon compleanno !

Here's to another 25 and beyond!! Bricks! (cheers)

Remember when I was first getting into LEGO searching for a set then coming up on this site and it was a wonder for my mind seeing all these 1000's of LEGO sets, themes and merch I'd never seem before in one site!

Joined officially in Feb 2017 and here I am 8 years on and can't think of anything else close to this sites power in the LEGO community, helpful for searching for that one brick, latest news and reviews, logging collections and much more!

Its an invaluable tool for the LEGO community, something I think a lot of other hobbies lack. Happy 25th Birthday Brickset! (insert random party emoji :) !)

Congratulations! Please don’t sell yourself short, Huw—your own unflappable dedication to not only maintaining this site, but to adding new features and keeping the architecture current is a huge reason why the site is still thriving 25 years later. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say it just wouldn’t be the Internet without Brickset. Thanks Huw! Long live Brickset!

Happy Birthday Brickset!

I first came here for the reviews, because the photography was spectacular and a cut above anywhere else at the time. I started to catalogue my sets so my partner could make sure she wasn't buying things for me I already have, but before long I was totally addicted to logging everything I owned.

It's a really fantastic resource and it's only got better and better over the years. Can't wait to see what it looks like in 2050!

Also I really hope TLG doesn't buy it!

A huge congratulations and thank you to @Huw for creating an incredible resource and community!

I am not entirely sure when I discovered Brickset, but certainly by 2007 because I remember seeing images of 7665 Republic Cruiser here before it was launched. I created an account in 2008, around the time Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released. Captain Rex seemed like a cool character and I thought he would make for a fine username after relatively minimal consideration. After all, why would that matter...?

Now, Brickset is my good morning page, the first that I check after switching on my pc. By in Germany,

Happy Birthday! 25 years on the Internet is quite an achievement!

I've joined in early 2014, having come out of my dark ages around Christmas 2013. So, it clearly didn't take long to discover Brickset. And it became a daily visit very quickly, first to look at everything I've missed since the late 1980's / early 1990's, now to keep up with what's new and to enjoy the excellent reviews (even for sets I have no intention to ever buying them).

So, well done! Keep up the great work!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Congratulations on the most useful site on the internet. Found in 2016, a year after rediscovering Lego following a 44 year dark age. I very quickly realised that something was desperately needed to keep track of the quickly re-growing collection. Brickset fitted the bill perfectly, especially the ability to simply export your entire collection to a spreadsheet. And, of course, the dangerous ability to automatically track discounts to your wanted sets on Amazon!

Happy anniversary to Brickset and thanks to @Huw for making this site the best online fan resource for AFOLs!

I think I first became a Bricksetter around 2006. By then, I had already been an AFOL for 13 or so years. My collection was too complex and not well suited to register on Brickset being largely minifigures and accessories rather than whole sets. So I didn’t register my sets on the site and still don’t. I imagine I’m in a small minority in not using Brickset ‘properly’.

I've been on the internet from well before even the first babysteps of Brickset in, yet back in those days deep in my dark ages. Slowly awakened from that in the early 2010s, but only in 2016 when I got all of my childhood Lego back from my parents I thought of cataloging my collection, and thus ended up here....

Gefeliciflapstaard Huw and Brickset team!

According to my profile, I became a member in March 2016, but at that point I had been using the site for many years already. Like others, I found Brickset initially in search of a database where I could browse through all the releases I had missed during my dark ages and used the query “sets released in [insert year]” all the time. Later, apparently in 2016, I became a member to start logging my own collection. Like many others here, this is the only site I will visit every day after I wake up, when I come home from work and before I go to bed again. Amazing job on the site, keep it going!

Coincidentally, I celebrated 25 years with my employer just 2 and a half months ago. Cheers!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Congratulations @Huw and all those who contribute to making this my favourite Lego website! (I visit here much more than even Lego's own site)
I can't belive it took until 2021 before I found Brickset while looking for a method to catalogue my Lego sets before moving house - it's now the first website I check every day, and my go-to place for Lego news and announcements. The reviews on here are top notch, I trust the opinions given, and I enjoy the discussions in the comments - you can't say that about many websites these days! Thank you for giving the Lego community such a useful resource, and here's to many more years of Brickset!

By in Portugal,

I am unable to pinpoint my first contact with Brickset, but I belive it must have happened around 2002 - at the time I was rather interested in knowing more about the history of promotional and "combo" sets, which were (then, as now) a strongpoint of this database.
Needless to say, the evolution of the site has been astonishing. Back in the late 2000s I took my sweet time to log my collection, even before the "quantity" feature, and that made my life a lot easier... the only thing still missing is a "have this set, BUT missing this part" option [hint, hint!].
But my favourite aspect of the website are articles about historic LEGO subjects - the more eclectic, the merrier.
Team Brickset, thank you for the effort you've put in, and may the journey ahead be one of enjoyment!

25 years!
Had no idea Brickset has been around that long.
That old homepage looks.... dated.
Interesting to see random sets were still a thing back then as well.
2544 is a fine little bike. And one I own. I remember those little Shell sets and have a few of them.

Apparently I didn't create an account until 2016

But I remember looking regularly around 2012 for the original LOTR set releases.
Probably before then as well,
As I recall checking here for when the old newspaper promotions were and what sets they would include.
Which were a few years prior

Now this site is probably where I spend the most time

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Happy Birthday, and thank you @Huw and the entire team for the tremendous work you have (and continue to) put into this wonderful website and LEGO resource.

I actually can't remember when I first became aware of Brickset. It must have been sometime between coming out of my dark ages around 2010 and signing up in March 2015. Before that I was in my dark ages like I said, but still perused several LEGO related sites during those years. Mainly LUGnet and Peeron.
Anyway, nowadays Brickset and eBay are the only two websites I visit daily. eBay has a slight edge in terms of longevity though, because I signed up with them in 1997, not even one year after my parents decided to get Internet access at all.

First LUGNET, then ClassicSpace.com, then Brickshelf and Bricklink, Peeron, and Brickset. I remember registering at some point and finding Brickset so easy to use. It was like you could hear my thoughts on how to organize stuff. I started putting the sets in I already had, and then just kept stuffing them in there until today!

Thanks so much, Huw. It’s been extremely useful. I think what keeps me here is the quality of the site, the great community, and the great articles. You’ve really built a wonderful thing here. Cheers and I hope you continue for more than another 25 years!

Ads? Logged in I see no ads!

And just buying through affiliated links (e.g. Lego or Amazon) will give a lot more than £2 or £3 per month and cost nothing!

Happy Birthday! This site and community is awesome. My Brickset journey began when I was an expat mom of two toddlers transitioning from Duplo. I loved how thorough and organized it was. It enabled my passion and helped framed my « completionism ». The community came later -starting with the COVID era member profiles on through Skaerbaek and media days. I still visit everyday and trust this site as the « voice » of the fandom above all others. Thanks, Huw. You did good. And thanks the to rest of the Brickset crew for keeping the content great and the standards high.

By in United Kingdom,

Man, I don't even remember how I first found Brickset, or when I first joined... and apparently Brickset itself doesn't either, because my profile gives the very helpfully vague "before November 2010" as my join date xD Which, I mean, it would have had to have been because 2010 was the year my dark age began in earnest, and I know I'd already joined before then; I also don't think it was any earlier than like 2007 or 8, but I don't remember for sure.

I think...? I may have been looking on Google for clear pictures of the sets from my childhood - e.g. Adventurers, Rock Raiders - and found Brickset's database was the best source for them, and then discovered the ability to catalogue my own collection and was hooked! It was just so *convenient* to keep track of them all in one place (and I still wish there was a site with similar functionality for my other childhood toy collection, the Hasbro Star Wars action figures...! There's a good place that displays them all but no way I can see for a user to manage their own collection on it), which was what made it such a useful resource for me. Especially once the ability to set additional flags beyond the default 'owned' and 'wanted' was added too!

I know at the time I also got carried away making several very bland reviews on sets I owned (you won't find them now, I went back and deleted them once that functionality was added...!), but didn't even notice, much less pay attention to, the news pages back then. I don't remember when that changed; I do know I hopped back onto the site here and there, even during my dark age, just to nostalgically browse old sets (and also to look up information for all the sets I sold when downsizing my collection as well), but I don't think I started really paying attention to news on here until the first series of Disney CMFs were announced in 2016. This was also my first start of poking out of the dark age again since, as a big fan of some of Disney's characters, I was eager to see the series reviewed.

Still, it wasn't until the Random Set of the Day feature was added that I became a daily visitor; the opportunity to wax nostalgic with other members when some of my childhood sets came around was not to be missed...! xDDD

Whatever it was that brought me here first, though... congrats on the anniversary, Huw and team! It can't be easy to run a community like this, but you do a fantastic job! ^^

I first learned about this great website around 2017 when I was looking at an old post on the eurobricks forums, I didn't make an account until 2021 and I"m so glad I did it has allowed me to communicate with like minded collectors.

here's to another 25 years.

Happy birthday Brickset!!!

I don't remember anymore when I first found the site. It was a gradual process for me, as at the time I used Peeron, Brickfactory, Brickshelf, Eurobricks and Brickset interchangably. Around 2006 I discovered Brickshelf and around 2007 (our internet was too weak before that) it was on Peeron that I first started to sift through Lego's back catalog. It was years later that I started to use Brickset more than it (the multiple year delay on instruction scans on that website didn't help). If I had to guess, I think I started using Brickset significantly around 2009.
Eventually I started to come here for the reviews, and later the RSotD and its kin. That was when I started to visit daily instead of sporadically. In the lockdowns I decided to actually login more and to start posting in the comment sections here.

I remember discovering this website sometime in my high school days, if I recall correctly. The amount of information contained here has been extremely helpful for me as a builder, and now that I've made an account I'm vastly enjoying the set news and weighing in!

Here's to many more Brick-years!

Congratulations; 25 years in the virtual world is pretty significant and like several users mentioned above, one of a few sites I visit daily. Surprisingly, I didn't actually sign up until 2020 although I would have been viewing the site well before then - I suspect that as I emerged from my dark ages around 2011 I would have been hunting down ancient sets I remembered from childhood and probably stumbled across the site via Google...

By in United Kingdom,

I see I joined about ten years ago, although I don't remember why or how I found this site. I'm greatful I did because of how useful it is to find parts I need, if I already have them in my collection of spares or I need to order them. And how expensive my hobby has become, now I'm out of the dark ages and obsessively collecting sets I like the look of.

This site is just a couple of years older than my own. It's amazing to think of how much the internet has developed since then, though possibly scary too. I hope the internet continues to grow and become a force for good far more than a force for bad.

And this site continues to grow as well, in terms of acceptance and enjoyment, celebrating afols everywhere.

Brickset is probably my most visited website, at least once a day.
I found this site while trying to identify parts in 2019/2020 and never left.

In my opinion the website abides because of a great layout and UI, a kind and active community and tireless work and updates from the creator. A vision well realised.

Thank you Huw for providing a valuable resource that is appreciated by thousands and thousands of people.

I remember seeing the site for the first time in 2008. I was working in Japan and something reminded me of an old aquanauts set I had back in the US. I found the site from that and then browsed all the old castle, space, pirate sets and kept diving deeper. I don't signup for stuff often, but proud to have signed up so long ago and wish I found it sooner.

I keep coming back to Brickset for the straightforward reviews and clear-eyed, ethical analysis of LEGO sets and LEGO as a hobby/company. I don't know why or when I started to visit Brickset - I think it was the mid-2000s - and it's wild to think it's been around 20 years of regular visitation.

Most LEGO outlets on socials are promotion-heavy or obnoxious in terms of how they communicate information. Brickset keeps things classy, informative, and free of sensationalism. Keep up the great work, I hope to be reading you 25 years in the future.

I ran across Brickset in 2011 when I was beginning to pack stuff up in preparation for selling our house and moving. I wanted an online resource where I could catalog my collection similar to what I had for board games at boardgamegeek.com. I've been around ever since. Some of those earliest notes on sets haven't been updated to this day, even though the locations they describe are no longer accurate.

After having gotten back into LEGO in fall of 2010, I probably stumbled upon this website looking up other Harry Potter sets at the time. Not sure exactly. I Found bricklink, eurobricks, and brickset all around the same time. Since then I've logged a number of sets and spent an unspecified amount of money on those sets...much to my chagrin.

Happy Anniversary! The internet back then was a wild ride. Dial up 28.8k modems and all that. (I didn't have access to high speed until moving out for college in the mid-aughts.)

Part of the success I think is due to just how uncluttered and elegant Brickset looks in combination with the huge functionality and the diversity of services it provides. If I were to draw a parallel with OS design, Brickset is sleek like Apple, while Bricklink is Android (at best).

Happy Anniversary Brickset! I've only been a member since 2019 but I've been a LEGO fan for most of my life with a few dark ages thrown into the mix. I don't really remember what it was I was searching for when I first found Brickset but I visit almost every day and also the joined the old forum as well as the current Discord server. I want to say I think I was looking for instructions for one of the old Christmas Bauble ornaments but I don't think I would have been working on that in the month of May when I joined. So it was probably something else. Still trying to get all my sets cataloged into the database but I've no idea what set numbers actually match up with some of the bricks I've owned since the 60's & 70's. We just stored everything in one big box back then and didn't save any of the packaging.

By in Germany,

Reading through all these comments, it just occurred to me that Brickset manages another astonishing feat in the age of the Internet: not only has the website existed for 25+ years in a very up-to-date and functional state, but it clearly also has a dedicated user base that has been around for many years (decades in parts). That is truly remarkable!

I can't think of another website (except Google and Wikipedia maybe) that I used 11 years ago and still visit today.

Happy Silver Anniversary Brickset! I have been here since nearly the beginning. First from rec.toys.lego to Lugnet, then to Brickset. I came for the comprehensive set database and the user set reviews. As Lugnet faded away, the forum became the primary source for new product info and opinions. I still very much miss that forum.

Brickset, without a doubt, remains the most comprehensive catalog of Lego information on the internet. Thanks Huw and staff for all the effort to maintain and enhance this site.

I think I first became a Bricksetter around 2006. By then, I had already been an AFOL for 13 or so years. My collection was too complex and not well suited to register on Brickset being largely minifigures and accessories rather than whole sets. So I didn’t register my sets on the site and still don’t. I imagine I’m in a small minority in not using Brickset ‘properly’."

Happy birthday Brickset, thank you so much to Huw and all the team for what you do for our community. I wish you all, team and members, the best for the next 25 years to come. When I discovered Brickset, in 2008 if my memories are good, I was feeling a bit alone with my passion for Lego here in France. I searched for such a site in French, but could not find one where I was welcomed as I have been here. I have never stop coming every single day since, even if it's just to check what are the news... So 17 years now with at least one visit a day. That means a lot, and first that I find here exactly what I want, need, and like. So thanks again, and happy birthday.

This takes me back to the days of yore...of yesteryear.....a time of mirth, of beginnings....when blue mooses roamed Watford, when modulars were born (not market street) and space skulls terrorized, when LEGO fans pillaged Texas, and Brickset Towers was but a pipe dream....years before I started a family (though now apparently have a teenager)...

Thank you @Huw.

I check news. I check sports. I check Brickset. The number is three and three shall be the number. Just not in that order.

Congrats Huw and Happy Birthday Brickset!

Since we're sharing stories... The Ninjago Rebooted sets led me here in November 2013. I must've been looking for high resolution, non-preliminary images of them. I had previously chanced upon the database in passing whilst looking up Star Wars sets, but I think the Ninjago news led me to the home page. Suffice to say, I remember the old website design. By early 2014 Brickset had become one of my daily go-to sites for LEGO news and has remained so ever since. Only became a member in 2020 so I could leave the occasional comment, but then I started using the collection features as well. This site is the primary reason I still have LEGO as a hobby; I probably would've dropped it years ago otherwise. So, thanks for that. ;)

I don't remember exactly when I started following Brickset, but I finally got around to making an account when I realized it avoided ads in 2021. I was settling a couple of family members estates around that period, and I created the account and read through every review starting at the very beginning. It was good escape from the drama I was dealing with at the time. I was aware of Brickset long before I visited, but I was in my dark ages. I still watched Jangbricks fairly religiously though.

Thank you, Huw and the Brickset team for making a fun site that provides a delightful community to share our hobby! I love reading all the articles and taking part in the regular tomfoolery such as with My Dad, Dreadflipper, the Shadowbox Version, and many other memorable moments. Here's to many more years with Brickset!

Happy 25th anniversary, brickset.com! I'm proud to have been on the site since before 2010 and honoured to be a contributor for almost two years now. It feels great to give back to the community that helped me rekindle my love for this hobby many moons ago.

Happy Birthday Brickset!
My join date says "Before November 2010", so I'm a bit of an oldie here. :) Though I don't remember when exactly I joined... come to think of it, I can't even remember how I found this site! I'm getting old too. :)
Brickset actually helped me get a set earlier than others in the UK, funnily enough... you reported back in November 2009 that Atlantis sets had been spotted on sale in the Netherlands, the first sightings of the sets in Europe. Couple of weeks later, my dad had a business trip there, brought me back 8059, and I reviewed it. :) There had already been other reviews from the US, but I wanted to be the first one coming from the UK!
I still got it, somewhere in the basement... along with all the other sets I had when we moved from the UK to Germany.
Have had a bit of a Dark Ages in the meantime, punctuated by the large-scale licensed Technic supercars and a couple of bits and bobs, but I've always followed this site throughout to stay up to date with developments in the LEGO world. :)
Thanks a lot for your work and dedication to the site @Huw, and to all the rest of the team for their tireless contributions! Long may it continue!

Happy birthday! Brickset is my homepage on my phone. The “I’ll wait for the Brickset review” is my go to approach when newly anticipated sets are released. Huge fan of the no-nonsense approach to LEGO news since getting back into the hobby 2 years ago. Happy birthday! Along with many others, Brickset is probably the only site I check daily. I was a lurker for quite a while, but didn't actually join until late 2022 when I found the need to catalogue my collection properly and this site seemed the best way to do so. I don't know when I discovered it, but not as early as I wish I had (I remember being somewhat surprised to discover Lego sets were reviewed anywhere!); if I'd known about it earlier I'd probably not have missed some of the cracking technic sets from the 2010s. Still, hindsight is 20/20!

I very much appreciate the reviews, and the price-checking functions for sets I know I'm going to get at some point.

Keep up the good work!

Had no idea Brickset has been around that long.
That old homepage looks.... dated.
Interesting to see random sets were still a thing back then as well.
2544 is a fine little bike. And one I own. I remember those little Shell sets and have a few of them."

That random set feature must be different then the one we currently know, For one thing, it doesn't seem to allow any comments, and may have generated a new random set every time you visited the page. The RSotD feature as we know it today dates back to 2018: https://brickset.com/article/33782/random-set-of-the-day And @Huw said:"If it doesn't work I'll stop it."

I... think it's worked, @Huw.

Speaking of @Huw, he said:"Thanks everyone for your kind comments. It's great reading your Brickset memories.

The 'Before 2010' anomaly is because we didn't start recording join dates in the database until then."

Oh, I figured you'd had some kind of server hiccup then.

I think it's still in my bookmarks, but I haven't actually clicked on that bookmark in years. Brickset is the first site suggested when I open a new tab in Firefox, after all.

By in United States,

A long time ago (2003), in a dorm room far, far away (Arizona), I discovered Brickset.

I did not have internet access as a kid. My parents did finally get dial up internet when I was a senior in high school. But, as it tied up the phone line, using it for recreational purposes was prohibited. It existed so that my parents could check their work emails and that was it! Probably just as well, as it was a horrible connection. Text would load line by line, and images would take minutes, perhaps tens of minutes, to load.

So, imagine the awakening that occurred when I landed at college with a new computer and a high speed internet connection in my very own dorm room! Lego had been a passion of mine since I was gifted 6077-2 Forestmen’s River Fortress at four years old. I saved every catalog and studied them over and over in great detail. But those catalogs were the limits of my knowledge. What came before the sets shown in the 1988 catalog was a mystery. A mystery that could now be solved with personal internet!

I began by Googling images of my area of greatest interest, Lego Castle, and quickly noticed that most of the images were coming from this website called Brickset.com. Upon visiting Brickset, my mind was totally blown! I proceeded to examine the website with the same intensity that I’d given to the catalogs. The gaps in my Lego knowledge were filling in!

I recall that on a phone conversation with my parents, I cited the discovery of Brickset as one of the standout events of the week. I believe that I relayed the discovery as: ‘There’s this guy, who has this website, that has pictures and information about every Lego set ever made’. I now know that at the time, that assessment wasn’t technically true … but by now, I think you’re getting pretty darn close. Exact details aside, I’m sure my parents were very impressed with what I was learning at college.

I visited Brickset on and off from summer 2003 to fall 2007 when I noticed that users could and were commenting on articles. This got me coming daily. Not to comment myself, but to read other people’s reactions, insights, and generally witty comments. So, to all you folks that have posted something in the last eighteen years: THANKS! There’s a good chance I’ve read it.

As for myself, I am amongst the lurkiest of lurkers. I only created an account last year so that I could visit Brickset on my mobile device (otherwise the ads made it unusable). And after 22 years, 18 years of visiting daily, this is my … uh, let me see, … first post.

I just felt compelled to break radio silence on this occasion to share what a huge part of my life Brickset has been! I visit daily. It is my go to place for news, information, reviews, and reaction. It is my favorite place on the internet. To everyone who’s been a part of making it happen:

THANKS!

I’ve been a member since Aug 2010. I remember the forum with so many great deals from Walmart clearance to Toys R Us buy one get one half off on modulars which is all I needed to begin down the slippery slope of LEGO collecting. It was all out buying back then, but now it’s a more focused approach, but not if you ask my wife.

Anybody remember LegoFanTexas and his business as a reseller?

Anyway congratulations on 25 years!

Ah yes, dial-up Internet. That connection noise was so horrible then, but so nostalgic now... And you've been a member since last year, but just made your first post. I'm not sure if I should welcome you to Brickset or not.

I'm pretty new here - I held on to my childhood Lego from the 1970s and early '80s but only got back into it - and discovered sites like Brickset - in 2021. I had no idea Brickset had been around so long. Congratulations - and thank you for such a wonderful resource and community!

Happy Birthday and congratulations Huw. Thank-you for all the work you do to keep Brickset going and keeping it a free resource to the community, it is greatly appreciated :)

After years of keeping an eye on what Lego was putting out, in mid 2017 I jumped back into collecting sets. In looking for sources of information on the internet, I came across Brickset and found it to be the best site for accurate news and the datebase was a big draw. In December 2017 I signed up and started recording my collection and have never looked back! The only Lego related site I visit is Brickset and that is nearly every day.

Thank-you again, I would be lost without Brickset! :)

Congratulations to everyone on the team! I've used the site for a long long time, and I still remember the joy I had as a kid when I found the site for the first time. I was astonished being able to browse all of the sets from ages past! The site has helped me organize my collection, keep up to date on the news, and get me excited about the hobby. I'm thankful for everyone who has given us these great 25 years! Cheers, all!

Found this site in 2014 to look at the mixel sets and mixel contests as a 6th grader. Made an account as a highschool sophmore September of 2017 right after my dark age ended, have regularly used this site ever since! It's very useful to keep tabs on my collection as well as browse sets and see current LEGO news.

By in Canada,

Congratulations on 25 years and wishing you continued success in the future wide and far.

I was there for Lugnet, Peeron and Brickshelf in the late 1990s-early 2000s. Then I moved to England(London) and had a mini dark age (was very busy and had to keep up). I believe I discovered Brickset around 2009-2010 when my mini dark age was over. My profile says 2016 but I decided very late to compile my collection on the site and before that I did not see the need to register to the site. Nowadays, my computer is never off (some sort of low-key server) and Brickset is always on. I check at least once a day; some times much more! A very useful site and a fun and cheeky community. Love it! Thanks to @Huw and the team.

By in United States,

I just discovered Brickset just a few years ago when forced retirement and nagging mobility issues due to stage 4 cancer brought me out of my dark ages and I was looking for something to do to keep my mind and hands busy. My son bought me 10302 and I sought out somewhere for Lego information and found you guys. Thank you to everyone who is involved in maintaining this great site.
Also thank you to all of the members who post comments regularly. I look forward to being entertained by the spirited nature of the forum. Thanks to everyone, members and admins. Happy 25th!

Congratulations and well done, Huw!

I visit Brickset twice a day and I record all my LEGO sets and minifigures in your database. A really excellent site that I share with other LEGO aficionados who aren't yet aware of it.

Thank you for your commitment and for making my interest in little colourful pieces of plastic so rewarding.

By in United States,

I've definitely been here for at least 20 years. I pulled up an email I sent Huw back in May 2005 addressing my willingness to volunteer as a review moderator for the incoming site registration upgrade. Thankfully, Huw did not take me up on the offer (I was only a teenager in high school at the time), but it reminds me of how useful and interesting Brickset was even back then, an age where my online LEGO presence was usually just centered on BIONICLE and Star Wars. The ability to track my collection (which even in 2005 was quite substantial) and write the occasional review (some of which were lost in a server burp in the late 2000s) was an essential feature for my TFOLdom and soon-to-be AFOL status.

I do miss the forums. Biggest loss of the last five years, though I understand why they had to go. I saved too few screenshots of some comments from the boards, but I know there was so, so much that got axed. Oh well. Such is digital life. May Brickset itself, however, continue on and on as long as there are LEGO sets to collect and track!

By in Canada,

I didn’t get out of the dark ages until a LEGO Christmas gift from my son followed by COVID when circumstances reignited my love of plastic LEGO elements. Went down to the basement and found my kids LEGO collection all broken down into a massive heap of stuff but all in one container. Slowly started reconstructing sets based on memories of what they had. Found Brickset online, quickly became a member and the rest is history! Love all you do! Love all the Brickset team does! Love the passion in the community. Thanks a ton. Daily visitor! Most days multiple visits!

By in United States,

I just found the email from my account registration: 3/4/11.
Thousands of visits later, I am happy to have found a place on the internet that is, like many others have said, my go-to place each day.
No company or site has maintained an interest to me like Brickset for so long.
It’s due to the heart and soul of this place, @Huw.
I’m quite thankful for all you and the crew have done. Keep going! The journey is not yet complete.

I recently found Brickset earlier this year. I was looking for a way to track and keep up with all my sets. I first started with a blank Excel spreadsheet and thought to myself, "there has to be an easier way" lol. I am so thankful that Brickset has the ability to export my data, amongst the other useful features, photos, reviews, etc. Much appreciated!
