By in United States,

No random minifigure today?

Also, I imagine Hondo would be quite pleased with this set’s increase in value.

By in New Zealand,

Two Star Wars sets in a row. This set is so forgotten. It was so unique from the normal Star Wars sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd love to see this remade, especially if we get a new Hondo minifigure!

Speaking of which, why no RMotD today?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was one of those niche clone wars sets that Lego will never make again

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Pirates abducted it.

By in United States,

Its wacky and obscure little Star Wars vehicles like this that are the most fun. I had this one back in the day, great to slide around

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not the biggest Hondo fan, personally. Still though, surprised that this set was the only one that came with a minifigure of him.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a piece of junk!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

15 years later and we're still waiting for a proper Hondo minifigure without the Clones Wars carton eyes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Remake will be $160.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks like 7104 on steroids

By in New Zealand,

Huwbot was feed up with not being able to select a Clickits set so he protested and didn't post RMotD.

He's wearing goggles. How can you tell what his eyes look like?

Pretty big Star Wars fan here, massive fan of LEGO, big fan of LEGO Star Wars with many UCS and other SW sets, visitor to Brickset multiple times per day, and read almost every article here …. Don’t recall EVER having seen or heard about this set before today!

Gravatar
By in United States,

TIL Hondo actually did come in a LEGO set before... this one. And only this one. At least it's a fitting set for him.

"Well, you know what I always say. Speak softly, and drive a big tank."

By in United States,

This was a great set! I love the tank design from the show and Hondo is a fantastic character. I could easily see him returning in a set one day. I remember seeing a fabulous micro fighter moc of this tank as well.

By in United States,

Liked it back in the day. Built and played with my kid.
Some great play features with the hidden area to 'spring' a pirate for an ambush.
Chock full of weapons - flick fire front and back, turret with cannon, harpoon weapons on the side (use by hand or leave as ship exterior details). Lots of combat fun.

Then the more and more I looked at it, to me, just doesn't look good.
Like it has all the elements of the source material but could've been done so much better even at that scale.
We still like the figures so much more, more SW villains always helpful.
Definitely would love to see a higher piece count more accurate re-design on it.
There's a really good moc kit on ReBrickable.

By in Turkey,

Everytime I click the Brickset link I feel like pushing the button on a slot machine in Vegas. Wheels are rolling and rolling, and when the page opens I get a random set. I'm always hoping for a 80's or 90's classic. If it's a 2K+ set, I'm like "Dang it!" and wait for the next turn, hoping that will be my day...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish I could find all the pieces to rebuild it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Star Wars?
When I saw the image I thought it was something from Ninjago or some other non-IP line.
Still don't have a clue where this is from.

Pirates must have shanghied it! This set is from an episode where Hondo holds Obi-Wan, Anakin and Dooku hostage, right? Seems like he’s up to his old tricks

By in Canada,

I may have missed some movies (and sets) ! I once probably owned >100 different SW sets. And when I looked at the picture of this set, I didn’t expect this would be a SW thing.

It's from the Clone Wars show.

Ah, thank you, that's why I didn't know it. I only know proper Star Wars.
*ducks*

Want! At this point, I'd take a remake, too!

By in United States,

This set has one of the most unique sticker placements I've ever seen in a set. The hinge plate that holds the canon has a targeting screen on the underside. What makes this really weird is not just the placement on the underside, but the underside also isn't a smooth surface with all the part ID and LEGO copyright stuff on it. The stickers in this set are plastic, so it hasn't been a big problem, and they did print the black, so it's not messy with all the embossing on the part, but it's very odd all the same.

Great set, and welcome break from the usual Imperial or Rebel crafts made it far more fun. I always thought there was some white crouched up robot from Mine-craft sitting in the front.

“The stories I could tell you…so many of them true.”

It’s really too bad we didn’t get more Rebels sets. I honestly liked Hondo better in that show.

By in Netherlands,

I wish LEGO did more of these 'obscure' ships rather than rehash another AT-ST and X-wing/TIE Fighter every year...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

If you wish to choose to miss the very best of Star Wars, that is well within your right.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I know I have this set still MISB, somewhere. Didn't know the price had appreciated this much. Big-eyed figures were such a turn off for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The animated Clone Wars series was a true renaissance period for Lego design and exploration of different models. 2009 had so many great sets and concepts.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loads of great SW sets in 2009. I could only afford a few but, great year!

There are certainly sets from my childhood and some others that I'd love to see show up here, but what I'm really waiting for is a Technic or Fabuland figure to show up as RMotD. A Games figure or a trophyfig would be cool, too.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

At the time I found it very middling. No interior except a section that opens to reveal... one minifigure. Not even a cool one, just a regular space pirate.

Then I watched the clone wars a couple of years ago. It was weirdly nostalgic because I recognized so many random vehicles such as this one.

Seeing it again... still middling. As a set at least. But it was nice that they made so many more types of vehicles. Nowadays they're outright ignoring whatever show is coming out most of the time, or give it one single set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Those face-prints really make me want to test the melting-point of ABS again. Empirically. I'll probably even hum the theme during that test.

That said, I like the... ship? Do we really call this a 'tank'? Boat. The boat. I like the boat.

Agreed, Washed-Up Imperial Era Hondo is just way funnier than Kinda Generic Goofy Pirate Hondo, possibly because his affability towards Ezra is actually kind of genuine or certainly less of a facade than it was in Clone Wars

But then it will cost more, and trigger complaints about how they’re trying to fleece the fanbase.

The 1999 Space Port line did something similar

The funny thing is, a minifigure version of Hondo in his Rebels garb appears in a couple episodes of The Freemaker Adventures.

I definitely loved how much Hondo seemed to have grown by the Rebels period. While I did enjoy his time in Clone Wars, his exploits with Ezra showed a fun side to him that we only saw glimpses of like with Katooni. And we do really need more Rebels sets! Hopefully they'll cover the later seasons at some point.

By in United States,

@PhantomBricks it’s be nice for sure, but I’m not holding out hope for it. Rebels hit the ten year mark last year, but Lego certainly didn’t acknowledge it unless you can count Chopper’s presence in 75392. I fear Rebels Lego is unlikely to see the light of day again as this tank, barring anything that sneaks its way into Ahsoka or other MandoVerse projects.
