Minecraft Advent Calendar - Day 6

Posted by ,

Yesterday's micro build was fantastic, but what could possibly await behind the sixth door? More models in that style, or more minifigure stuff?

I can't wait to find out...

We're back to minifig-scale today. This Snow Golem looks great, and also happens to be seasonally-appropriate! We haven't received too many in sets, so seeing one here is quite welcome.

The only things I think are missing are stud shooters for the arms, which previous versions have featured, but it still impresses. The lack of printed buttons isn't really an issue for me.

Overall - 4.0 - Festive and fun!

Man, the Dread Lord Dormammu, the Great Enigma, Master of the Mindless Ones, Lord of Chaos and the Dark Dimensions, has seen better days.

Shame they didn't shear the golem's head off

Okay, so all the complaints about the stud shooters…does this actually have a parallel in the game? Is this a mob that launches things at you?

Yes. It is. It throws snowballs at you

They throw snowballs at hostile mobs that are in proximity to it, so any play feature simulating that would be appreciated.

I adore him.

I swear the smiley pumpkin head is new and it's perfect for a festive snow golem who's having a holly jolly Christmas.

All hail the Snow Golem

The only other issue is that the older versions had printing in the front of the bond, which this one doesn't

Ah, that must be the lich working under Dreadflipper! The one whose phylactery appeared in the Friends calender a few days ago. How cool is that?
The answer is bone-chilling btw

Anyway, I think the real reason (or at least, one of the main reasons) this doesn't use stud shooters is that in all lego's wisdom they decided to retire the old rounded set of stud shooters (the handheld and plate-based one) for the newer, chunkier and squarer ones. Because those look soooo much better. Imagine using these in brown for the arms:

Even when you take the blockiness of Minecraft into account, those are still not quite fitting because of the futuristic shaping. Not to mention that they would need to be a recolor.

The clips for arms certainly looks more proportional to the in-game look of the guys than stud shooters…but yeah it seems like it would have been more fun to have those to mimic its snowball hurling

It's been so long since I played Minecraft or bought Minecraft sets on the regular that I'd forgotten about the buttons. But the last set to use that print was 21131 in 2017, so I guess they've retired it by now. Oh well, as you said, it's still a perfectly serviceable model.

The thing missing is print on the front.
