Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 6

Posted by ,

Yesterday's chair was a low point in the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar so far and maybe in the history of these calendars. Few models have been as bland.

Things can surely only improve today...

This colourful Gonk Droid certainly cannot be described as bland, although it has other issues. There have been many themed GNK Power Droids in LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars and most are delightful, but this example is just baffling. I would love to say the trans-blue and trans-pink lights alongside white and grey pieces are inspired by something specific, but I cannot of anything.

The accessories attached to the front of the droid look bizarre and its accessories are equally confusing. The broom and spoon could indicate a cleaning role, but I am not sure whether the colours have any relevance to that, nor is it seasonal, unlike some previous Gonk Droids.

Overall - I am not sure what to think of this Gonk Droid and its eccentric colour scheme.

I’m a sucker for Gonk Droids, so I really like this one. The splashes of color with those transparent bricks are really nice.

I was wondering if it’s a reference to something, but apparently not. I do quite like it (I’d love to see an on-screen interpretation) but the gubbins attached to it do little to enhance an already striking design.

Disney: I like the use of colours and it has enough space 4/5p
Friends: Popcorn's realm with Popcorn 5/5p
Minecraft: A Halloween snowman with thick arms 2.5/5p
Harry Potter: 3.5/5p
Star Wars: A cleaning stand with soap dispenser! 2/5p

The blue and purple are cleaning detergents. That's the only possible explanation. I can't figure out the spoon.

Well, I like it. But I will change the lights to red and green, though I do have Red and Blue juice in my cleaning supplies so I get that. I can see this guy running aorund during and after wild droid parties cleaning up. The spoon may be for a parenetal smack to a greedy oil-nog hogging droid.

To misquote Lando: "This calendar is getting worse all the time"

Day 6: St. Nicholas' day

0 points (+ 14 from yesterday = 14): HP - Nice design, but not much more.
1 (+ 6 = 7): MC - A kind of ghost with a pumpkin head
2 (+ 14 = 16): Ct - It's now tractor vs. bulldozer!
3 (+14 = 17): Dy - the expected sleigh has an unexpected 2nd seat. Good!
4 (+ 14 = 18): Fr - Popcorn fetsched all the points here.
5 (+15 = 20): SW - Gonk droid according to minifig listing, but I rather think of it as either a walking fluid (fuel)-dispenser or a walking slushie machine. Let's hope the droid won't ever confuse that!

This is trash.

I think (hope) this takes the prize for “hardest to build in the bag” for 2025.

This, this here. I really like that idea.

I *like* gonk droids and as a fan of the subject, I like the colours on this one... but it really is a baffling entry. It's not a Christmas-themed gonk, as so many have been, and it's clearly got... something going on with cleaning articles, but like... why? It's not even a Rebuild the Galaxy reference, right?

Just... odd!

Workshops need cleaning. Sure it’s not the most elegant but I appreciate its gonkiness. The blue and pink are cleaning fluids and the spoon is a dustpan. That tracks for me. I was sad last years calendar was gonk free so I am happy to get another!

At least this droid is more "functional" than yesterday's chair.

I like it. Sure, it's not canonical, but it's quite fun. Gives a vibe of J F Sebastian, but Star Wars.

I didn't even realise it was a gonk droid! My toddler has christened it 'Little Guy'

Y'all are just mad because you see it's carrying multiple items and you think that might make it technically qualify as a weapons rack.

It seemed to me to be some type of slushy dispenser. The colors certainly go along with that. You can see the type through the holes on the front with the bricks in the back being the tanks containing the slushy. You use the handle to the right to operate it (by rotating downward), and the slushy comes out of the piece on top. The "spoon" is the typical straw with a spoon carved out of one end (or an ice cream scoop for something else). No idea of the purpose of the broom. Maybe there will be a build containing trash to clean up. Or sweeping up the extra pieces at the end.

Edit: and I have had a soft spot for Gonk droids since the old Kenner "Power Droid" figures.

The only thing I can come up with for the spoon is maybe it's a cleaning/laundry droid and the spoon is a scoop to scoop like powder detergent in the 2 tanks on the back, but honestly idk this GNK is very baffling in terms of theming lol

What's with all droids this past few days. I am fast becoming like Wuher ,the bar tender, on Tatooine!!!

By in Netherlands,

The two-seater dalek was a funky design for sure, but what killed its production was that the two tanks holding the creatures inside were weirdly placed next to each other with two portholes stacked on top of each other. And the tanks were exposed too! Not to mention that the two-seater dalek's probe was pointing to the side and couldn't move forward. Even the ability to carry supplies wasn't enough to save it from being taken out of production.

So it’s a living, walking soap dispenser?
To be fair, wouldn’t surprise me if the Star Wars universe actually had those…

You won't like the rest of the calendar, then; the whole thing is themed around Babu Frik and his droid workshop. (Or something like that; I remember so little about The Rise of Skywalker that I may well have something wrong, but I know there are a lot of droids.)

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Whovian, and that was hilarious.

It’s the gonk droid that cleans up after a rave…or a Taylor Swift concert.

Looks like something that wouldn't feel out of place on Red Dwarf.
Sanitation droid, Kryten's little helper :-)
