LEGO Art 31218 Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape announced!

Posted by ,

LEGO Art continues in 2026 with a spectacular Japanese landscape! Here is the press release:

31218 Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape
1,892 pieces, rated 18+
$139.99 / £99.99 / €119.99
Available at LEGO.com from 1st January 2026

Bring colour and nature into your home with this LEGO Art Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape (31218) building set for adults. Inspired by the beauty of springtime in Japan and the country’s Ukiyo-e artists, this brick-built 3D Japanese wall art features Mount Fuji, a teahouse, a bridge, a waterfall, flying Japanese cranes, and cherry blossom, ‘Sango-Kaku' maple and Japanese umbrella pine trees.

This colourful home office decor piece comes in a black lacquer shadow box frame and has 2 display options. It can be mounted on a wall with a hanger or freely stood on a flat surface.

The artwork’s waterfall flows beyond the frame so that on a wall it pours directly out, or can be adjusted to spill out onto a flat surface. This LEGO 3D wall art set offers a calm, immersive and mindful experience for adults as you build the set from LEGO bricks.

I think this is a beautiful model and the price seems reasonable too, especially in Europe, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments.

By in Netherlands,

Looks lovely.

The colors really pop, and the mix of build techniques is nice too.

Great use of layering to add depth.

By in Canada,

I love this!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like it... just not sure it I £100 like it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Tariff pricing really starting to show up here is the US. Exceeding the Euro price noticeably on January sets

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is beautiful, and I said I would start saving on lego... Maybe tomorrow, or in 20 years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is gorgeous!!! Easily the best wall art set LEGO has made yet!

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

Very pretty, though I'm not 100% sold on how the mountain reflection looks. The cranes and the overflowing waterfall are probably my favourite bits.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Usually art sets contain a huge amount of 1x1s or other tiny pieces explaining their ridiculously good ppp, but this… I don’t see how they could sell this for only 120, I’m just seeing regular-sized bricks everywhere! And there’s 1900 of them!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Beautiful! And 7.4c ppp - nice!

RE US tariffs, I agree they are a terrible policy (except in specific, targeted use to counter specific unfair trade practices). But I'm not sure this is a tariff-based price for US buyers. Yes, £100 would be $130 instead of $140 in US dollars. But on the other hand, the €120 EU price is pretty much exactly equal to the $140 US price. So it's hard to tell I think.

Absolutely beautiful. Lovely details and the colors are great. I love the way they did the cranes.

The recent Goonies 21363 set is the equivalent of $80 cheaper in Canada. If you look at the Price tab on the set details: $329 US = $460 CAD but the price is only $380 CAD.

Be curious to see how other 2026 price difference popup between Canada and the US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Quite stunning... Just the Modular left to put the final nail in the January budget's coffin!

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Oh, this is beautiful. So unexpected.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, this looks fantastic!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really like this, the colours, the way it feels like you could step into the set, the frame detail in the corners, the water falling at the bottom of the screen.

I'll say it again, January is gonna be an expensive month. Totally ruining my chance of saving for February/March Bricklink shipping.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

One of better art pieces they did. Looks like a horrible thing to dust though.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Very beautiful. I don’t need it, but i like it! Great colors and great parts usage on the cranes

Gravatar
By in Paraguay,

This look amazing. OMG. All these 3D style art sets that are not pop culture related I buy.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That explains why Japanese Art was not selected in the last ideas round.

Interesting that the water 'bend' depending on if you put it on a wall or on a shelf.

Very nice indeed.

Gravatar

Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous!

By in Netherlands,

At first glance (and as a Japanophile)...I quite like it!

At closer inspections there are a few bits I question, like the composition is a bit weird with the mirror lake in the back and the stuff in front of it, and those steep cliffs with sa few trees look more like something from Chinese artworks. But still, overall it looks good, and I also very much like how it is framed. The cranes are also great, though to be perfect they should have gotten a touch of red on their heads...

I loved the Hokusai set, so this one is gonna be a certain buy.....at a nice discount. Certainly not a day one purchase, as I'll be looking at the real Japan then ;-)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is drop dead gorgeous!! I love seeing LEGO Art continuously evolve. The 2020 mosaics were cool too but we've come such a long way since then :)

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I'm lost for words, this is spectacular. Unlike anything I've seen from Lego before.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a long time Ninjago fan January 1st is going to be expensive as it is. This set is beautiful and I probably will get this sooner rather than later… if I have enough.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

It's going to be a real struggle to not end up with this and put it on the wall with my other Japanese art. Beautiful design, intriguing to look at, and the sky colors just look great.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Absolutely gorgeous! I do think that the gold ornaments on the frame are a bit too busy and it competes visually with the artwork which is already quite busy. Also it looks quite... western compared to the Japanese theme. Gold spare pieces for me!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

A gorgeous set of use of parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Easily the best of the four sets revealed today. Very amazing design work.

I don't like comparing North American prices with European ones because prices in Canada and the USA don't include taxes and European prices do. That said, Canadian prices (even accounting for the 15% sales taxe most of us Canadians need to add to the prices) have been pretty good lately.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Liking that. Great build.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Exquisite. And excellent use of crowbars.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

A winner for me.
Day 1 purchase.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Where is that upper waterfall flowing from? Looks like a Bob Ross painting of Japan more than an ukiyo-e, especially with that gaudy frame. Great Wave was a better aesthetic IMO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My first reaction was very positive. That being said, I'm actually a little put off by the use of the molded cloud and the minifigure wings. I guess my preference would have been to lean on more standard pieces.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

So what's the original art this is based on, who was the artist?

Without that, it's kitsch decoration, created to please as many as possible without risking anything.

I like the build.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Dark green carrots! :-)

Gravatar
By in Austria,

looks mostly great but the reflection of Fujiyama in the water doesn't quite work for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My dad got three silk paintings during leave in Japan back during the Vietnam War, and I got my pick of the three. I like it slightly more than this, but I like this a lot more than the other two.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Look, happy little trees. :-)

This might be as close to a LEGO Bob Ross set as we'll ever get. Even the composition is very similar to many of his paintings.

Love it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, that's nice. I like the way the waterfall has two 0options for display depending on where you're putting it.

I didn't even notice that until I saw your post!

No, no, I believe you'll find that these are cranebars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The colors and parts usage along with display options and a way to change the waterfall positioning are all drawing away from the beautiful and articulate frame. If it was any other color that would probably garner attention away from the scenery. It has great depth and is curved along the front surface. Very well shaped and I can't wait to have it in my hands.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Wizard of Oz one is tempting me pretty hard, but this isn’t guaranteed buy! It’s gorgeous & I love the waterfall flowing over the frame.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m a big fan of ukiyo-e and this is very pretty but I must admit I’d rather one that was based on a specific artwork, even if it is fun to play spot-the-influence.

… Actually no it is genuinely really fun to play spot-the-influence so that does go a fair bit to make up for it. Still. The original artists did good work, I don’t think there was a *need* to play mashup instead of replication. Although I do like the hinged waterfall a lot, that’s clever.

(All that being said I hope eventually they branch out from scenery and explore one of the more actiony artists like Kuniyoshi eventually. They have their own charms, and something like Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre would look very cool.)

I suspect part of the problem is they pretty much exhausted the full spread of widely recognized examples when they released 31208.

Well, yes, probably, but since they’ve released this composite image they’re clearly not all that worried about the image itself - or an artist’s name - having universal recognition so long as it looks nice, and there’s no shortage of original prints that look nice.

Well, there's also Dream of the Fisherman's Wife, but that deals with subject matter that Lego would *never* touch. No one under eighteen look that one up!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Very likely the most beautiful retail LEGO set ever!… perhaps surpassing Rivendell!!……

Just imagine that :-)

But all jokes aside, I'd say either Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre or
Fine Wind, Clear Morning (a.k.a. Red Fuji) are pretty iconic too. I just guess the former is a bit too intricate to do in a similar way with Lego, while the latter might be a bit too simple.

Great wave has the benefit of being quite detailed yet abstract enough to solve with quite a bit of NPU.

Those two could work. I'd especially like to see how they accomplished the bones in Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre.

By in Germany,

Cool! 20€ more expensive than The Great Wave painting, yet smaller and without any printed elements. Plus it's completely fictional, while the other depicted a real artwork (rather well I would say). Loved the Great Wave, but this one looks too kitsch, probably because this set targets women demographic.

To be fair, the Hokusai probably was bigger mostly because of that white frame around it......which is a lot of surface but not that much plastic. After all, this new one does have a slightly higher piece count. And keep in mind that literally 1/3 of the Hokusai were tiny 1x1 round tiles....

I don't think this is as great nor as good value as the Hokusai, but I do still quite like it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's gorgeous! Darn Lego figuring out that despite running out of shelves, I haven't yet run out of walls!

Gravatar
By in France,

looks pretty good. little nitpick, the water beyond the bridge uses the same building technique than the sky rather than being built like the water below and it's a little confusing

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set is growing on me each time I look at it. Putting it on my wishlist.
