Really want that Lonely mountain set for Smaug and all the sand green!
The Witch king battle set could be really useful in multiples - I'm thinking the witch king could easily be a stand in for a zombie or generic ghost.
The more I'm looking at this wave the more I'm coming around to it, I stick by my theory that TLG were screwed over by the decision to stretch it out into three films rather than just two!

I noticed that (at least in the US) they're redoing the poster promotion from the Desolation sets' release, with the same Desolation poster as they had before. I don't know if they're doing that for other countries, but I thought you could add it here anyway.

Ignorance can be a wonderful thing at times - I have no clue what this Hobbit thing is nor do I wish to find out.

Something to do with bogo Baggins and New Zealand??

The only thing going for it are the different elements.......but thankfully I have no interest in those nor what this Hobbit thing is either.

^I'm sensing you're not over keen on the Hobbit??? ;-)
I love the Hobbit And LOTR stuff and will certainly get these when the appropriate offer appears somewhere but I am disappointed that the huge wealth of characters wasn't taken advantage of.
All those sets and not one Gondor soldier is actually quite upsetting. I need to go and sulk for a while again now.

I'm only a passing fan of the Hobbit, but I couldn't resist buying Lonely Mountain on day one (yesterday). Just for Smaug of course, to maintain my nearly complete collection of LEGO dragon moulds (yes, I'm crazy, I've basically just spent £100 on a set just for Smaug! The parts are just gravy to me as walls kinda fail to excite me). I look forward to receiving it, and the double points I received will definitely help with subsidising the inevitable enormous orders I place in January when the new ranges come out! :-)

Though I want the other sets for various bits and bobs, those can wait until their inevitable Amazon discounts appear ;-)

Double VIP points closer to 9% actually.

By in Puerto Rico,

Finally Galatriel shall be mine (she will give the Rebel Alliance a much needed racial diversity considering that only the humans and Mon Cala seem to be the only members of the Rebel Army, the stromies would not stand a chance againts an army of high tech Elves).

@TheOneVeyronian I brought a few sets for this reason like the city set with the bear but I am sure your find a good use for the bricks too :)

I really want the Lonely Mountain, even though Smaug's size and new parts take up a big percentage of the price. He just looks amazing, and the set's gold and sand green look fantastic. The Witch-king Battle is definitely going to be mine, since Galadriel and the Witch-king are so well done.

All of these are great sets, especially the lonely mountain and the battle of five armies. got mine at Toys R Us for 20% off because of a mix up and confusion which only makes them that much more satisfying :) Smaug is wonderful though and is definite a must have. I love how his wings fold in and out for flight or just for when he's grounded. By far the best dragon lego has made since the old fashion green dragons they produced in the 90s and early 2000s.

So far only have the "Attack on Laketown" set. Picked it up at my local Target store last week. But I'll be getting them all eventually.

I'm excited to see additional waves of Tolkien sets. There are so many more settings and persons that could be brick-ified. I'd love to see Bree, Gondor, Sauron, an oliphant, the Balrog, Tom Bombadil and the old willow tree, the stoned trolls, more ents, etc...

I don't know how long this will continue. It's not an evergreen theme, and I doubt many more waves are in store.

By in Slovakia,

And I am little dissapointed, that there is no advert for any upcoming Lotr or Hobbit wave in any of the instruction booklets (see the .pdf files) as it was before. Well, we shall see...

By in United Kingdom,

I'm tempted to get these for the double points but
they really are overpriced, so I'll be getting 3 for 2 or better, at some time this year or next.

and Why have TLG failed to do the final wave of LOTR?

By in France,

Very expensive sets on the French Lego shop.
I'm still wondering why there are so many price discrepancies between Europe and the US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully they'll all be heavily discounted like the last lot of LotR. I got most of them for ~50% off through ASDA direct.

By in United States,

I agree with those of you saying that there should be one more wave of LOTR sets since there are a few scenes and figures they haven't made yet. Unfortunately its looking at this point like Lego isn't going to make anything else. It is really disappointing that we were never able to get a single thing from Gondor. No Minas Tirith, Osgilith, Mumukil, Witch King, Gondor Soldiers, Gondor Archers, Faramir, etc. The only thing I can even hope for is that we get Minas Tirith through Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/36275 seems doubtful, but one can always hope.

I want all of the sets, but since I only buy them for the minifigures, I will definitely wait on a sale. Licensed sets are always overpriced in my opinion and with most of these figures variants, I don't NEED them that badly.

Happy to say that I bought the Smaug set at ToysRUs today with a 25% off coupon (when using your ToysRUs credit card) which brought it down to $89 w tax and included the bricktober mini pizza set.

@xcrossx "All those sets and not one Gondor soldier is actually quite upsetting. I need to go and sulk for a while again now."

... yep. Sigh.

Saw them in store today. Won't be getting any of them, although both Laketown sets would make a decent little medieval village. Maybe on deep clearance, or without minifigs for a steal, but if I'm going to add on to the Market Village I have plenty of bricks to MOC.

Debating even getting the Witch King. I really *should* have Galadriel, but collecting sets for minifigures is becoming increasingly weary, boring, and expensive. Elrond isn't that different from the polybag one a couple years ago.

By in United Kingdom,

Why would there be Gondor Soldiers in Hobbit sets?
It seems pretty much certain now that there will be no more LOTR sets, and as much as I'd love another wave for them to finish off the missed bits I think it's best to not expect anything else - unless Peter Jackson wants to continue stroking his ego with Tolkien's work and gets the rights to do 8 films based on the Silmarillion.

By in United Kingdom,

I think you have all answered your own question when wondering why TLG haven't produced a new wave of LOTR sets. Most of you seem to have picked up the previous sets at discounted prices. TLG will know this from the retailers feedback. Would the likes of TRU or Asda commit to buying a shedload of new ones? I doubt it.

By in Australia,

Sly Fox, you say that as if it distinguishes LOTR from other themes. The same would be true of any Lego set. Tolkien is of course skewed to an older audience than Lego's mainstays like the police & fire sets, but there must have still been a great deal of children buying them so far.

By in United States,

I think LEGO is expensive. It is. I think many people would agree with that. So any set will always be immensely better and purchased more frequently if the prices were lower. I have purchased all of the LOTR/Hobbit sets at full retail price so far, but I have picked up extras when I have seen them on clearance (which has been rare around here). Nevertheless, if all of them are clearanced, I'd snatch them up.

I agree LEGO noticed that and the sales numbers weren't there to keep the theme going. It may have something to do with the Hobbit movie switching to 3 movies instead of 2, but it might not play as big of a role as people think. I honestly think they just didn't sell well with the kids. How many kids have any affinity towards any of those characters? If I hadn't watched the movies when they came out (I was high school/college age at this point) I wouldn't care about them. I think LEGO designed the sets well with what they were given, but I don't think it translated to the target audience very well. Then add in the cost and parents aren't buying it.

By in United States,

True. Selfish as we may be, LEGO has always been first and foremost for children, and so most things they make are to be enjoyed optimally by children. The Tolkien themes were fresh and different, but for some reason haven't done as well. Collectors and older fans will be disappointed that we don't have Faramir or Gondor soldiers, but, if the kids don't care, they won't sell, and LEGO won't waste money on it. Whereas tired old Star Wars is still popular, despite our constant complaints about pointless rehashes. Those sell, and with Rebels and the next Trilogy, they'll never stop selling. It's odd, but LEGO knows what to do to get the most audience and return.
