By in Australia,

Oh, I like that police train. Wait to get it on sale, sure, but it's cool, I like it.

I've been thinking, we've almost been overdue for a police-themed train (given we have police everything else).

I expect 2027 will see a fire-themed train, I suppose.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

So, Fire Engine Train next?
Seriously though, I think as a kid I would have loved that.
As an adult, I at least like the engine. They should really sell things like that separately too.

The F1 truck looks ok to me, but I'm not into F1 any more, so no interest.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Is that the freight train for the next cycle? It's four years since the last City trains so we're due a freight and a passenger train. Then again, after the arctic train and now this one I'm not so sure.
The audi truck looks good.

Is this Under Siege 3? I don't see any Steven Seagal minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Trying to figure out why there is a sports car at the back of a police train, possibly impounded and worth more than the contents of the safe. I just hope the helicopter grip can grip without scratching the paintwork.

The F1 truck looks great with the mechanism adding to the play-ability. I just wish the flatbed was larger to take a more detailed speed champion car.

They do?
I know of tunnel rescue trains, and hospital trains, but fire trains? Never heard of those before.

What is the new straight rail track element for? Is it another aid for placing trains on the track?

Do you have a link to info about such a train?
All I can find on Google is articles that turn out to be April fools jokes.
I mean, for real, what sense would such a train make? Unless there just happens to be a rail line directly to where the fire is happening, how would such a train even get there? Let alone in time.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

"Police Train Heist". It sounds like the title of a bad action movie, probably starring Dwayne Johnson. :)

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Wheels wheels wheels again...where are CITY buildings ?

P.S: Hope for Ambulance train... ;O)

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a completely skippable train. I have no need for a police-state train. Only things going for it are optional stickers and inevitable deep discount sales.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Nice idea to attack train with helicopter...

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I liked how the red stripe goes all around the truck. Nice design.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I like the truck, obviously it’s not accurate at all to F1 but it could very easily be turned into a generic city truck, and the ramp mechanism provides a proper way to roll onto cars rather than having to pretend (looking at 60406)

Also… what happened to the Audi logo…? That’s quite the eyesore.

The Bluebell Railway used to have a fire department, and at one time they had a 'mobile fire train' (a carriage painted red) before they switched to a Land Rover. https://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/1520.html

On a steam railway you can see why it's more likely for a fire to occur where it's reachable from the railway.

Stepney!

You make a good point, though. A fire-fighting train is actually an entirely plausible (and, indeed, necessary) addition to a steam railway. I remember an episode of the documentary series about the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where -- during a heat wave -- there was a very real concern that the engines would accidentally cause a fire (by way of sparks from the firebox or hot ash) in the dry vegetation alongside the railway lines.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That locomotive is a pretty creditable first attempt at an EMD SD70 for a City set. I was convinced I was going to hate this set when I saw the set name, and after this year's very dubious 60470 I was expecting the worst, but this set actually looks like a lot of fun. True, this set continues the slow but steady migration of City into the realm of fantasy, but this balanced by some excellent "real world" sets like 60466 and 60467.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

The first one is a similar concept to 60406, but I can't see why it costs 50% more.
Ok, it has more parts, but these parts are well hidden!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A train heist is such a fun idea for a set! Maybe this isn't the best set for existing train enthusiasts, but it's a great way of creating new ones :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmm, not a fan of the train. Something about transporting people to (presumably) a prison by train has some unfortunate historical precedent

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Yes! More F1 sets! This will sure make everybody happy!
(all jokes aside, I do like the truck, still not a fan of these smaller F1 cars though)

As for the train.....the locomotive itself looks perfectly fine, no issue with that. But does everything needs to be "Police" and include a helicopter? Yes, I know Lego City is the most crime infested place in the world, but considering the limited number of train sets, I would rather see them focus on actual train stuff in those. And compared to the 60470 Explorer Train, this as a whole looks rather underwhelming.

You mean the one on the front? I'm kinda surprised this got approved. I don't think Audi themselves would ever use the rings in this orientation, and the recently presented car for next year just had it horizontally too.

There are several in Switzerland. They are combined firefighting and tunnel rescue trains, but with water canons: https://company.sbb.ch/content/dam/internet/corporate/downloads/de/ueber-die-sbb/die-sbb-bewegt-die-schweiz/die-sbb-in-den-augen-der-kunden/Faktenblatt_14_Loesch_Rettungszug_de.pdf.sbbdownload.pdf

And rereading the page on 1520, I see it was also used as a railway ambulance, in case the third emergency service wants to get in on the act.

Well, the Year of Space bled into 2025 with 30694, why shouldn't the Year of F1 do some bleeding, too? Also, as pertains to 60508: I know Lego did a lot of railroad crossings as standalone sets back when train sets weren't all one-and-done deals, but is this the first time a train set that's a big loop has included one?

That's what I meant by tunnel rescue train.

As for steam railways, at least over here those haven't been a thing since the late Seventies, when the last steam trains ceased service in Germany.
And for historical railways there's usually the normal fire brigade in case an embankment fire erupts. Historical railways over here are usually run by small clubs / groups of volunteers who could never afford to keep up dedicated fire fighting trains. They generally have a hard enough time to survive as it is.

Police cars. Police helicopters. Police motorcycles. Police bikes. Police boats. Police hovercraft. Police ATVs. Police planes. Police jets. Police JETPACKS. And now, police train.

Actually, stealing cars from a moving train is vaguely reminiscent of Fast Five...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Alright I'm a bad guy, but hear me out,

Police train is lackluster, it's 3 sections of dense part usage yet low play value train cars. Why not use one of the cars as a mobile Police HQ ?(much like 60044 in spirit) with accessories, radios, and maybe even police dogs in a car? WHY is a random city car the 3rd train car in a POLICE train? why not make it a police helicopter car (much like 60098 pulled off a police helicopter) or anything else related to policing?. If they want to make it a Heist set, why just include a vanilla train crossing, what does that add to the set? why not include some sort of station or trees that fall or something to play INTO the heist scenario instead of completely away from it?

Maybe there's other sets that when bought with this will beef up the play value? Right now it's just "steal 2 large items from this train using a helicopter & pop the prisoners loose".

Glad lego is trying themed trains but room for improvement, at least happy to see what mocs may come to make this what it needs to be to begin with.

Yay Nay?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the train engine. This is one of the few times I would hope for stickers over prints though. The colors work fine as a non-cop vehicle.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Kinda surprised it took this long to get a Police Train seeing as though both of those things have been in Lego form since pre-Minifig days. And… more F1?! Seriously? Oof. I hoped we’d be done and a new wave would replace it. Oh well.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I guess only in Lego city where crime rate is so high the Police Department gets budget to have its own train. The cops must have pretty good salaries too, and well deserved as crime fighting is non-stop all year long. Sorry Batman, Gotham City is paradise compared to Lego City.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Nice to see a new themed train, instead of the yearly construction train and passenger train.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So…using a train, the historically least-steerable mode of transportation, to deliver a criminal, a bunch of loot, and an escape vehicle, all in the same trip? Nothing could possibly go wrong with this scenario. Also, the helicopter reminds me of that scene in The Thomas Crown Affair when Catherine explains that the getaway helicopter has a max load capacity that’s well below what they planned to pile into the thing with the museum heist. I feel like you’d need something more like a Chinook to hoist any car worth driving.

@Crux said:
"No! The year of cars is OVER! You said we were done with this, no more cars, ever again!"

Oh, you already knew that wasn’t true. They’ve already announced the car from the F1 movie, and the LEGO-branded F1 Academy car. This just adds the new team from the 2026 grid to the lineup (so anticipate a Speed Champions Audi F1 announcement). Guy in my club’s going to be “thrilled”, though. He just bought the full City F1 lineup (and quickly sold off the big semi, because that’s about 70-75% of the value in that set) so we could stage the Detroit Grand Prix on our THF layout, and now he’s missing one.

@Bricknave:
Batman still has a kayak, a space shuttle, a spaceship, several mecha, the Scuttler, a dragster, and a ski boat. And canonically, he does also have a train…like thing that can travel on the subway lines. I don’t think he’s worried.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The F1 set looks cool but I presume it'll be £40 and it's just a great example of why I don't really buy much LEGO at the minute. So expensive for what looks like a £25-30 set.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The engine is nice. The wagons are fine albeit too short - double bogies would be better. They can easily be repurposed with containers, logs, tank, etc. The railway crossing track is useful. Although the engine is certainly built for it, there does not seem to be a light at the front. The helicopter is nicely shaped and color-blocked and can be used elsewhere.

As for the other set, this is an overdose of F1 (or is it f4 considering the lower plate on the sides of the car and no front wheel guards?). That said, the truck is nice, the loading mechanism is neat and this can transport just about anything else. In fact, you are more likely to see a roadster on a truck like this. Most F1 cars travel in covered trucks.

Yey, another F1 car! Haven't seen one of those in a long time. Isn't that same Audi model coming to Speed Champions too?
That train looks half decent but another cross-over? Guess it's all a big mess of subthemes nowadays in City. Maybe they'll make an ambulance monster truck next.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Between this train and last year's arctic train, it feels like Lego is really emphasizing playability over realism for their City trains. To be honest, that's probably not a bad strategy to get kids more excited about trains. I have kind of mixed feelings about the City theme's continued emphasis on police but I can't deny that this set looks fun to play with (with crooks to free and a safe or getaway car for them to abscond with).

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Both look amazing. That locomotive build especially. Honest one of the best Police City sets ever.

That new track element re-rails trains should they have become derailed.

There is another new track element (not included in 60508 Police Train Heist) the that can be seen in this set of instructions:

By in United States,

Looking at the F1 set, it appears we're finally getting the first official Jaws of Life. I've built some that honestly are sleeker--given LEGO's affinity for constant new emergency sets--I wish we'd gotten a dedicated mold. For ages, my builds had a cutter piece I took out of a MEGA set I had.

As for the police train--meh. A fire set would've given them an emergency-themed set, but actually be accurate--as most railroads worldwide have trains set up for fighting fires--either on the rails, in tunnels, or as the link above showed--wildland firefighting .

It's a team that didn't race in the 2025 season, so they wouldn't have had a reason to release sets based on it until next year. And it appears to be the exact same physical design as the other City F1 cars, as exemplified by 60442. Ironically, those fairings are gone for the 2026 season, so the City versions work better for 2026, while the Speed Champions format is distinctly 2025.

Id rather have LEGO take trains seriously and just do another Freight/Cargo train, and maybe some buildings or special cars again.
Its bad enough both the arctic and police trains are wildly over priced but yet people will continue to overpay to re-enforce LEGO's thought process that 'less costs more'.

I haven't paid a huge amount of attention to train sets over the years, so it just struck me as something I didn't think I'd seen before.
