Review 31376 Cute Hamster with a Flower

Posted by ,

Creator 3-in-1 animal sets are among my favourites, and given that seven of the nine boxed Creator sets released this month build cute (and not so cute) critters, I can't be the only one who likes them.

That's not surprising, because they offer everything a good LEGO set should: creativity, a versatile selection of parts, and excellent value for money, all traits that are becoming increasingly rare nowadays, especially the last one.

31376 Cute Hamster with a Flower is one of the two just released that cost less than a tenner, and it's so cute you'll want to cuddle it...

Summary

31376 Cute Hamster with a Flower, 166 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 5.4p / 6.0c / 6.0c per piece.

This must surely be the cutest set ever, and at a bargain price

  • Excellent value for money
  • Extremely cute
  • Does not chew its cage
  • B and C models don't use even half the parts
  • Not as cute and fluffy as the real thing

Hamster

The rodent is of course the main attraction of the set, and it's a lovely model. It's about 9cm long so about the size of a dwarf hamster but with colours typical of a Syrian, which are generally a bit bigger.

The neck can be twisted and also tilted 90 degrees, allowing for some wonderful poses, on all fours or sitting on its hind legs. Additionally, the front legs can be turned inwards slightly to create an especially adorable pose.

The Rock No. 1 pieces around its head and backside help break up the sharp contours and make it look suitably fluffy, and its cheeks look like they are stuffed full of food.

Eagle

The eagle guarding an egg on its nest is also a nice model, particularly considering how few pieces it uses. The versatile 'rock' piece makes the chest, tail and wings look suitably feathery.

Hedgehog

The small mammal is perhaps the weakest of the three models, but it's still not bad. This time, the 'rock' piece has been used quite effectively to represent its spines.

Verdict

LEGO sets do not come any better than this: three lovely models, 5p/6c per piece, and a pocket money price: what's not to like!

Botanical crossover set. I can see a lot of broad appeal.

I bought this pretty much day 1 just because it's so adorable and well priced... It's now sitting on my desk! Haven't tried the other models yet, might soon, but they do seem a little weaker...

"Does not chew its cage."

Life will find a way.

Nice set.

Your verdict is amazingly similar to my comment on the 'New for 2026: our picks' article; where I wrote: "3 strong builds and a great price. What's not to like?"
Great minds think alike but idiots seldom differ as my granny liked to say perhaps.

But does Sariel approve of this set? That's the only thing that matters....

I'm pretty sure he wrote this review's second negative point.

The hamster looks fine but I think Creator has failed if the other models don't use many of the parts.

Very cute but, of course, the only cute rodent is a Lego rodent!

OK, but the 31384 Hummingbird is more interesting to make and display, with better alternative models.

I may be an outlier, but I hate rodents, especially those eyes (and tails). The only good rodent is a dead rodent imho. Our cats happen to agree by the way ;-)

Then again, since this is a plastic rodent, I won't argue that it's an awesome set and excellent value for money.

In picked this one up :) Lovely review.

The hamster is an irresistibly cute little critter, but yes, the secondary models are trying too hard. It would have made more sense to make the eagle a larger primary model with more pieces and then derive the others from it rather than the way it is now. Surely this wouldn't have lost its appeal as a 15 Euro set...

I need two of this to make the hamster and the hedgehog

I have this one sitting on the nightstand by my bed--it's adorable!

Another thing I would like to point out is that the hamster has 4 studs on its back--situated perfectly so that a minifigure can ride it!

I built this one and found it suprisingly enjoyable and a well designed set.

Given the hummingbird is three times the price I’d hope so. Not really comparing like for like!

I really love the option of the hamster nibbling on the flower! And the secondary sets have excellent NPU, even if they are much smaller. The eagle in particular catches the spirit of the subject very well.

All about the hedgehog here.

In the spirit of what Lego should really all be about, it doesn't really get much better than this; excellent value, creative builds, good parts usage, good subject material, all round appeal...

This could become a noble steed for one of my Castle minifigs...

Pro: Smells a lot better than the real thing!

My Neighbour Hamtaro looks fine.

As for the B and C models... well, an effort was made (but the damage was irreversible).

Time to make a UCS version of set 75976!
