Would be awesome to see Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart, and Mario Andretti and their F1 vehicles.
Wow that's a Brave Choice, Michael was arguably one of the Greatest, and Everyone loves a Ferrari. Its just his current /long time medical condition that clouds it. Great set and ill be keen for him to sit beside Mansell and Senna on Display.
If I were to buy any of the F1 cars of this scale, this would be it.
oh hey it's the guy from 8672
(it's amazing how many things I only know about because of Lego)
Same tires front and back, again? Apart from that, it looks just like the car did back in 2004, at least to my memory.
One of THE BEST racers 100% a day one purchase
He was my favorite as a child, and I am glad I got to see him racing in person. I really don't want to start collecting another theme, but I'll have to buy this one. I'm just afraid that then I'll want to buy all the other legendary F1 cars too.
Not a car nor driver I'm particularly interested in, but of the three cars so far, I'd say this easily looks the best. the wing end plates and those 2x4 tiles on the side of the nose look a bit rough, and obviously it's yet another stickerfest, but other than that, no real complaints.
And kinda surprised they picked one that definitely needed new tires, after they first cheaped out on proper rear tires with the MP4/4. I assume these are all four the same, but considering the small difference in width of front and rear the tires in this era (355 vs. 380 mm), that's not really an issue here.
As for other F1 cars.......I would love to se the Ferrari F92A with jean Alesi, which is my alltime favorite driver one of the best looking F1 cars ever. But considering that car was a total failure, no chance. And as much as I am a Verstappen fan, I don't think the cars of this era would translate particularly well to Lego at this scale.
No, I would indeed rather see some older cars. Like indeed the P34, or the Ferrari 312T4, or just any JPS Lotus. Or go back even further, any car of Fangio. Or a BRM V16, with Sound Brick!
And one little detail I noticed: The two italian flags under the hood. I mean, for the MP4/4, they went for the Brazilian colors for the driver....so I would have expected some German reference here.

My best guess here is the fronts and backs on the F2004 are too similar in width to warrant a second mold. After the Senna "controversy" (and subsequent change on the Mansell model) I can't imagine this wouldn't have been deliberated prior to release.
I want to love it but F me that's too many stickers and too few pieces for 90 euros once again. Also that tile at the sides of the nose really looks out of place, why did they feel it needs it? I already got a proper 1:18 diecast of the F2004 for half the money, which of course looks a ton better. I really struggle to see any value in these display licensed Lego cars.
Finally! I've been waiting on this one!
It looks fantastic IMO, and while I'm not a fan of the price increase, I'll overlook it this time so that I can round out my collection of Icons F1 cars.

355 vs. 380mm, so less than 10% difference. Now compare that to the 1988 tires, where the rears where 50% wider....
I like that quote.

The rear tyres of F1 cars in 2004 were a bit more than 30% wider than the fronts. I think the fronts used to have 4 grooves, while the rears had five. This and the Senna "controversy should give Lego a very good reason to mold 2 different tyres. Such a shame they didn't...
Shouldn't TLG announce Minas Tirith? It's not really a secret anymore is it?
“A REAL FERRARI!! Punch me, Guido, punch me in the face. This….is the most glorious day of my life.”
Another excellent choice although, with 35 different champions, I'd love to see a bit more than 1 released per year, ideally some from earlier eras.
Under the circumstances I find that quote entirely appropriate.
This one actually interests me because the car and driver feel iconic and relevant from my perspective. Shame the price has gone up though, discount it is.
Having bought a second set of the Williams tyres to fit on the McLaren and correct the glaring error, I was initially disappointed that they had gone back to the same tyres front and back for this car. However, looking at pictures of the real thing it is clear that the tyres are a much similar size - with four grooves on front and back - so I can accept why Lego has gone with that. My interest in F1 has waned by then so I didn't realise they had changed that much.
Now just wait for a discount in Smyths and add this to the other two cars. And then order the 3rd party Marlboro stickers.
The rear wing and the engine cover look really lame all white. I get why they cannot include the original ads, but they could have replaced them with something else instead. Oh well.
Although I like this model, and will buy it sooner or later, I would be very happy to see Tyrell 6 wheeler, black JPS Lotus or some other legendary F1 vintage models.
I am not a fan of 20 "same" reskinned models (I also ignored F1 speed champions because of that).

That is accurate though, they have raced like that.
When it comes to sponsoring, I'd say the biggest miss is the size of the Shell and even more so the Vodafone logo on the sidepod, those should have been considerably bigger. But that could only have been done properly with STAMPs.
CAR!!!
Game off.
Wait, why is it 90 and not 80???

I have mentioned it before when the topic of F1 (and in particular more vintage F1) crops up but all of the cars you mention from the 1960s - 1980s are available in various forms on Rebrickable - I was a huge fan of the 1/8th scale cars by Luca Rusconi which are still available to purchase in instruction form on the website. Tragically, Luca was killed in a motorcycle accident last summer but his excellent designs and the models live on. Check out his Lotus 43, 49, 79 & 99T, plus various McLarens, Ferraris, and many others.
As a brit I was never a Schumacher fan, but I am a huge Formula 1 fan.
This looks great!!
Best wishes to Michael Schumacher..........and I do hope he sees this and has a good smile about it :-)

Because that would mess up the review's auto-con entry that it is expensive. Obviously the stickers con is good to go.

I would love to see Jim Clark in the Lotus-Climax from 1965!
They could also do a couple of family twin packs:
Graham & Damon Hill and
Keke & Nico Rosberg.
"I am always rooting for the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34!" I want one of those that comes with three street cars and a tractor-trailer, if you catch my drift.
I'm really loving this walk through F1 history. This is an easy buy for me and I would love to see a continuation of this series, maybe with Fangio or a dream scenario would be Lewis Hamilton and his 2020 Mercedes, arguably the most dominant of that era
A historical vehicle.

Simple. There is not much value in these sets.
Price is not connected to value.
Now, this line is the one I should have started collecting.
I totally love this set, one of the iconic F1 cars, the price is completely out of touch with reality though.
Having just finished the 2004 season as I watch through the F1 archives, I knew this one would have to be the next one of these! I wish they'd give us some older ones, though. Would love to see something in the JPS livery.
What a nice FIAT!
And why not to use wider tires for back?

Amazing. Now Lego needs to make historic F1 cars in Speed Champions scale.
This one will be perfect for my dad's birthday! But I wonder, are the rear tires still the same size as the front ones !?

Have either of you read any of the posts in this thread?
In theory, this would be the perfect set for me.
Always been a Michael Schumacher fan, and one of the best F1 cars ever made.
Bought the original Ferrari F1 sets back in 2004.
Sold? Eeeeeh... no. I see a lot of problems.
After progress with Mansell's 1992 Williams in the rear tyre department, we go backwards again with same tyres all-round. Granted, the difference IRL wasn't as big as back then, but they definitely were still a good chunk wider.
The tile with the Vodafone logo on the nose looks severely out of place.
The wheel nuts are colour-coded for left and right like on Mansell's Williams, but unlike that car, you barely see any colour IRL. It's unneeded and looks out of place, grey would have been better.
I appreciate the detail put in the front wing endplates, but the wing connection to the nose is just... wrong. It's supposed to be two thin pillars with an opening in the middle, here it's a solid block. It's closer to the early-season 1996 Ferrari rather than the 2004 one. Ironically, 8362 is far more accurate in that regard.
The Bridgestone logo used is actually wrong, it's using a newer version released in 2011 instead of the correct one, so we can also introduce historical inaccuracy into the mix.
From the side, the end plates are basically as big as the sidepods, so the proportions are also off.
It's a real shame, from the top it actually looks rather decent (the sidepods are well done), but unfortunately that's it. For a display model, there are far too many inaccuracies and compromises.
I mean, they used the wrong Bridgestone logo... that's just poor.
It’s quite a list, especially when you look at wider family too
@Alemas said:

Well done. You've managed to dig up a 'lot' of problems.
Any complaints about 'inaccuracies and compromises' seem to be ignoring that this is Lego set. This is always going to be the case given the constraints of the medium but then you also complain about the wheel nuts - where they have tried to be more accurate, within the aforementioned constraints - and you say they shouldn't have bothered.
I was going to accept the complaint about the Bridgestone tyre logo - not the tyre size as that is perfectly acceptable (unlike the McLaren) - but looking at images of the actual car they look fine.

Honestly, I can barely see the difference between the front and rear tires, it's only 25mm after all. In Lego at this scale, it would probably be would be less than half a stud. As much as i criticized Lego for the issue with the MP4/4, I'd say it's a bit unreasonable to expect Lego to make two separate moulds for such a small difference.
(And I bet many people wouldn't even notice, and just put the wider tires at the front....)
As for the logo thing.....hadn't noticed that, but you got a point there. I wonder if that's on Lego, or a licensing requirement from Bridgestone.

On the one hand, that's cool. On the other hand, the contrast between father and sun could make for a fun display. Like Nelson Piquet with a trophy, and Nelson Piquet Jr. crashed against a wall. Or Max Verstappen with a trophy, and his father stuck in a gravel trap.
(we used to joke that Jos can recognize any circuit by the sound of the gravel...)

They look "out of place" in the sense that they look off. It's a detail that's so unnoticeable on the real car, that if you want to reproduce it, you can't use a standard piece like a LEGO bushing in a solid colour, or it looks weird as in this case. You'd need a custom piece, or a tiny bit of printing on the bushing to colour it.
On Mansell's Williams, the blue wheel nuts are more noticeable on the real car, to the point that when I discovered it, I thought "oh, that's a nice detail!". But on the Ferrari, you barely see it, so on the LEGO version it's more of a distraction than anything. If you have to do it, do it well.
We'll agree to disagree on the Bridgestone thing, I think what set me off was the enormous amount of empty space in the logo, which made me think "hold up, something doesn't feel right here". I've basically got these logos imprinted in my head.

I swear that when I looked at other pictures, the tyres seemed wider than just 25mm.
Well, guess it's fine-ish, then.
As usual, a lot of the criticisms might be valid for a diecast scale model, but are ridiculous for a building toy!
This one looks so good I might not have the patience to wait for the usual £20 - £25 price cut!

I really like this. And while I understand the complaints about reusing the same wheel mould for both ends of the car, at least them being ‘close enough’ isn’t as much of a travesty as it was on the McLaren, which had narrow tyres all round with no Goodyear logos. It’s perfectly acceptable to me.

It's just that it already had been explained multiple times (by myself and others) why the same tires front and rear isn't really an issue here.
This gives me weird nostalgia for the 2004 Racers version(s?).
Poor Marlboro snubbed again. What have they ever done to cause such shabby treatment … oh wait.
No thanks, the GOAT is clearly Lewis ! They have 7 championships each, but Hamilton has 105 total wins vs 91 for Schumi. Numbers don't lie :-)
