This is not what I think of when I think of an orange cat.
It doesn't appear to come with blue eyes, despite what the press release says?
Main differences seem to be the colors, a few exchanged parts to make it look fluffier, the mouth now opens, and the tail is flipped. Nothing major, but nice to see some improvements.
I find myself bizarrely tempted by this, I already own the Tuxedo Cat, but that was before I could have anticipated they would do something like this. I much prefer the colour of this one, although I think the black hid a few flaws that are more apparent in a lighter colour. I guess I'll see if I can budget for it...
Not an orange cat. They usually have textures like tabbies. Textureless parts worked on tuxedo but it doesnt work for this set. Not for me at least.
I really don't get the appeal of cats, but at least this one won't try to leave partially disembowelled things on the doorstep
Well it isn’t an orange cat, but it is cut overall. Probably not something I’ll get.

I'm not a cat person, so what do I know. But I would think an orange cat should be more orange in color.

It'd need a press release beforehand and then two total sets released over three years.
I still find the announcement of the Restaurants of the World collection and its singular set really funny (then they reused the name for unrelated GWPs lol), at least the Fauna collection got two Art sets in on top of it's Ideas and Icons sets.
What colour is this, actually? I thought it was dark orange at first, but I've just realised it can't be...
Has anyone documented the Slight changes? May try to improve the Tuxedo. They do need to make the Green Eyes available somewhere for those with the Tuxedo, and I'm not a Cat expert but can "orange" cats also have the Blue eyes that came with the Tuxedo?

It appears to have some slight differences to the tuxedo but looks basically the same. Give us a rosetted bengal with brick-built rosettes!

While the price tag of the first overpriced cat could be hand waved away with research and design costs, what excuse does the recolor have to command the same price tag?
Inflation again? Raise of minimum wage? Oil prices?

Looks like 'medium nougat' to me but that's not really a species...
I already did an MOC version in dark grey using and adapting bits off Bricklink at enormous expense (probably 2.5 times the official set) but they all look great to me with the bonus of zero spraying...
This feels like someone was given homework 3 months ago and woke up this AM, realized they didn't do anything, and just sloppily copy and pasted it hoping no one would know. It's the wrong color, it's basically a duplicate of the Tuxedo, and it has the wrong texture, and just looks lazy as hell. I'm all for having different breeds of cats but do it right man. Animal lovers deserve more than this, and I gotta imagine someone who owns an orange cat would be insulted by this. Now I'm worried about what the Calico is going to look like.
Maybe I misremember the older posts, but when an Ideas set is announced, isn't there usually a mention of the creator and a link to the original Ideas submission for comparison?
I think Lego could now also start creating traditional dishes to fill the shelves of homes or restaurants; they'd have an incredible array of sets. After pets and plants, all that's missing now are food plates. Thousands of women can't wait to photograph them and post them on WhatsApp. Really, what has become of Lego? They should change their name to ACME...
@Huw - did we ever get feedback from LEGO on the UK color swap trial? Could this set (and the parrots, etc) imply that the trial showed promise?
It would be pretty diabolical if they released a second set variation and didn’t still credit the fan designer. This also must be one of the most popular Ideas sets ever. What LEGO should really do going forward is to stock the primary set but then allow you to place custom orders online for a limited number of different variants. That would be an interesting experiment.

Yes that is typically the case, but this set is an updated recolor for 21349 which released in 2024.
It worries me a bit that maybe down the line TLG introduces 1:8 supercars in multiple colours....

This question was raised at Fan Media Days and the answer is yes, the fan designer will stil receive credit and the standard percentage of revenue.
I saw it and said “I have zero interest in is, just like its friend.” Then I thought… the value of this Medium Nougat parts pack is insane! I’m constantly running dry of it (it’s one of my favorite colors) for my MOCs. Surprisingly, I will likely pick this up!

LMAO a Lego orange cat would be like the Firefox logo or a Minecraft lava cat. It would look ridiculous. This looks pretty close to realistic, if missing a few stripes.
I think a different pose (perhaps lying down?) would have made this a bit more displayable alongside the other cat, if people wished to. Having two cats in identical poses is a bit 'egyptian tomb-ish'.
Amazed they are still giving the ideas creator credit and revenue (but great for them). Does that only apply to the shaping, or to the general concept of 'lifesize cats' I wonder?? (Which is another reason you might have expected LEGO to change the pose).
Eh, looks way too similar to the tuxedo cat. Could have least put it in a different pose, give us a loaf!

Is it April first already? Seriously, was not expecting this to be a set, and given how its pretty much identical to the Tuxedo cat, you could wonder if this was a cheap AI colour swap.
As for the set itself, i don't like it as much as the original. Firstly its light brown rather then orange, and secondly, most 'Orange' cats I know and had seen personally tend to be stripey, which this set fails at being.
Not a cat person, but cool I guess.

I could absolutely see collecting these if they took different positions, but it looks like almost a straight re-color. It'd be cute to have a few shelves with a half-dozen cats in natural positions, maybe curled up asleep, or batting at something beneath the shelf--but all identical, staring out like statues, that would just be weird.
How lame is this? Here I was hoping they would actually make an effort and add a stripe pattern for an orange tabby cat and not just a simple color swap. It's not even orange...

There will be only one produced and then we have to mail it back and forth to each other for the random few times each year the orange cat has access to the single shared brain cell between them!!

All that said, to be fair, I don't think there's a better color in the LEGO palette to represent orange cats. Regular orange, dark orange, or flame yellowish orange would all look much worse. The lack of texture or patterns is the bigger offense. Orange cats are usually somewhat stripey, in my experience. Perhaps that would have altered the set too much to keep it as an Ideas set? In that case, maybe a white recolor would have been better.
I'm going to mix this and the tuxedo cat together to get a calico cat
I'm hoping they'll keep releasing in different colours....the equivalent of the star wars series for cat ladies (and gents)

Okay, but how does it compare to the shadowtux-version?
That isn't an orange tabby; it lacks the subtle striping, has a different fur texture, and the white isn't supposed to be present. Disappointing, because that's what everyone thinks of when they hear orange cat, and I put the listing high on my wishlist under that premise. Alas, I guess I'll have to hold off for a good sale.
I don't know what they're called, but I like the curved pieces tht give the fur a little texture. But unfortunate that this is not orange and otherwise nearly identical to the original. A different pose would have been fun.
And it still knocked a LEGO set off my table.
They do these from time to time with creator animals sets and it's nice to have a colour pattern choice, but the build itself is still not the great (as it's the ~same, so no surprising).
I wonder how many of the people who voted "No, it doesn't interest me" did so because they already had 21349?

Not super-impressed, I expected more than i simple recoloring of the 21349 Tuxedo Cat. The real cat shown in the teaser pics (an entirely different one with shorter fur than shown on the box here) had a subtle orange/brown stripe pattern I hoped to see recreated, the plain nougat fall pretty flat for me.
Replacing black with a lighter color also makes the shortcomings of the original design more visible, particularly how the large quarter-circle pieces gives it a way too "mechanical" shape, especially around the knees and the plain cylinder surface on the back.
Also, the piece used for the lower jaw makes it look like a real sourpuss when seen straight from the front.

Is it confirmed that we won't get any more of these? 10362 French Cafe sure got mocked to hell and back, but I feel it was because how it balanced on the edge of being really great and then managed to so utterly fail. A major flaw for me was the protruding rafters (?) resembling Mexican building style combined with the single-floor design looking more like American mall architecture - like a former Arby's at the far end of the parking lot.

I had an orange tabby growing up and he did not look brown. He looked orange. I mean not like fruit, but this color looks like clay.

We had someone suggest this at a show last year. One of our members hasn’t quite reached the point where she’s comfortable building MOCs and the Tuxedo Cat was one of the sets she had on display. I was tempted, but couldn’t swing the budget at the time. May have to ponder it some more.

What an unnecessary product release! As an avid IDEAS collector I'll have to get it for completionist sakes but I wish they'd put it under CREATOR and not IDEAS.

My first cat may have been a murderous little thing, but she never tried to eat my boat. A dog did. The breed? Golden Retriever.
I bought the Tuxedo Cat set, then bought black versions of the white bricks to replace all the white on it so that I could make a LEGO version of my black cat Shadow that had passed away as a memorial. I thought the set was cool and was planning to buy it as a decorative piece until he passed, then I bought it to remind me of him.
I'll probably pick up the another Tuxedo set at some point if I find it on sale and i'll get the Orange one sometime down the road.
The color just doesn't work, IMO. Either Bright Orange or Reddish Orange would have been better.

He didn’t eat the whole boat. There wasn’t even a whole boat to eat. I had just started building it. It consisted of a keel bowed over a form, and I’d just screwed and epoxied two mahogany transoms to the ends. He liked to chew on sticks of scrap wood (of which there were plenty in a shop that makes wooden boats), and I walked in to see him chewing on the corner of one of the transoms. Fortunately, they were just rough cut across the top edge, and once I built the hull and gunwales, shaping the top edge of the transoms removed all of the teeth marks.

I'm a bit disappointed that they still haven't found a way to give the cat whiskers.
Definitely hoping that the eyes will be in pick-a-brick soon so that I can make the Tuxedo Cat look more like my own cat.
It would be nice if there was a some sort of 'Go Brick Me' version of the cat, given that the appeal for a lot of people is making it a facsimilie or tribute to our own feline friends.
