LEGO NINJAGO 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger announced!
Posted by CapnRex101,I think NINJAGO's 15th anniversary has started strongly and another anniversary set has been revealed today, to be released on June 1st.
71867 X-1 Ninja Charger contains 691 pieces and this is the third iteration of the X-1 Ninja Charger, following 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger and 71737 X-1 Ninja Charger, released in 2014 and 2021, respectively.
The price of £69.99, $89.99 or €79.99 seems expensive to me, good though the set looks. In addition, the set features our next and probably last 15th anniversary collectable minifigure, Dusk, the Elemental Master of Shadow.

$90? Since when did Ninjago have Star Wars pricing?
It is not that car. And the minifigs, except the anniversary one, are awful. Easy skip.
I want the anniversary minifig, but that's about it.
Is this the most massive single-person car Ninjago has ever produced? Sure seems like it...
This is pretty weird. Ninjago usually has great builds, minifigures and pricing, although that last one has been slipping as of late. This is one of the worst examples recently, so few minifigures, even if they are decent, and the build is pretty good, but feels like a black hole of parts, and the price is awful. I'm also not sure how much demand there is for another Kai car, I'm not sure when the last one was but it was pretty recent... I think some might like this set, but it isn't for me.
Why fail so much? This ain't worth it

Since the Ninjago kids grew up and landed in the 18-35 demographic. It is the 15 year anniversary after all.
They lifted that action feature straight from one of the vehicles from M.A.S.K., but if it works just as good, that's fine. Pretty bulky car for being in the minifig-scale. Probably the biggest to date?
$90 is absurd for a $50-ish sized car.
Gorgeous! Definitely bigger and more over-the-top than the original, but I feel like it pays off—both the car and bike look that much cooler than previous versions.
It does lose the muscle car shaping of the original, which is a bit of a shame. But since this is the third version of this car they've made, I'm personally happy that they did something different with it.
Max $50. They're smoking something fun.
I remember when $90 would buy 8635
Wow, I didn't have high expectations for the X-1, but it still doesn't meet them. I never liked the X-1, but this car doesn't even look like it. I don't think there was ever a canopy, and it looks more like that Lloyd car from SoG. The Minifigs are...there? Kai obviously doesn't fit in since he is the wrong season(couldn't even include his armor). While I love the nindroids and their mask element, it's nothing special from what we have seen before. They also should have included at least one more. Dusk is the only really good character in here. Lastly, that pricing seems awful.
I'm still a little perplexed that they chose the X-1. I would have preferred to see the last golden weapon vehicle redone(Cole's car), or something else. It definitely would have helped since they didn't want to change the ninja outfits.
I like the anniversary fig and the look of the car, but $90 is WAY too much, i'm gonna have to wait for a sale on this one
Well, of all the Ninjago sets, this is certainly one of them.
Next.
LEGO designers can't build to minifig scale anymore. Because that would result in too low prices.
I think if you're NOT excited about a car that splits open so a motorbike can shoot out then you're not really alive in the truest sense.
This is just about the same size as the Icons Schumacher Ferrari F1 car. Now I want to put Schumacher in the driver's seat and have him race this absolute unit.
The price on this is absurd.
LOOK AT THAT! LOOK AT HOW STEALTHY IT IS!! THAT MODEST, COMPACT FRAME!! THAT MUTED COLOUR-SCHEME!! WHAT!! AN!! EXCELLENT!! STEEEAAAALTH VEEEEEHIIIIIIICLEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
It kinda looks like an F1 car lol.
I definitely like it more than the 2021 version, but the original has yet to be surpassed IMO. The price for this new one certainly doesn't do it any favours.
Normally when LEGO does remakes of previous concepts, the newer ones are better (e.g., X-wings in Star Wars). But this?
This is the third version of the X-1 they've made, and it's by far the least accurate to the source. It's not even the same type of car anymore: the original X-1 was some kind of muscle car, this is clearly a roadster/sports car with the exposed front wheels. Just completely wrong.
I thought Legacy sets celebrating the anniversary would be more true to the source - look at 71858 ! I despise these "re-imagined" sets. "They wanted to do something different than before" my ass. 70727 came out 12 years ago, and not all of us were able to get it then. Is it too hard to just rerelease 70727 with some improvements to stability? The Star Wars team can do it ad nauseum and apparently it sells. So far this "15th anniversary celebration" has been a spit in the face to older fans.
Oh, the Dusk minifig is cool. I never knew that was her name. As on-the-nose as ever.
Wow, I can't believe they revealed 2 sets today that will be heavily discounted at costco in the US. This and Grogu look like great 30 dollar pickups.
This might be the best version of the launch feature and the motorcycle looks cool but the whole thing needs to be cheaper, looks more like a $60 set to me.
I haven't looked into the rule changes for this F1 season yet, but adding swords to the formula is brilliant!

I was excited. When they did it for 70727. However, I died between then and now.

It's been a thing for several years now for (at least) one Ninjago vehicle per year to be absurdly overpriced:
2022: 71773 - 624 pcs, $90
2023: 71783 - 312 pcs, $45
2024: 71811 - 267 pcs, $50
2025: 71830 - 333 pcs, $50; and the most egregious 71844 - 561 pcs, $100
2026: 71856 - 387 pcs, $55; and now this 71867 - 691pcs, $90
So this set isn't even the worst offender....
I was disappointed by the leak but this looks amazing.
Considering the price they better make a grey version and move it to another theme....
$90 for a toy car?
$90 for a car sounds like a highway robbery

Have Ninjago cars ever been to minifig scale, though? Is there even *really* such a thing as "minifig scale?"

Not sure why they didn't implement this feature in 76303 .

But 6 tires!
And now we sit and wonder when/if there will ever be figures for the few remaining Serpentine War Elemental Masters. Thanks to the new graphic novel we know we’re missing Leo (Form), Levi (Gravity), Sono (Sound), and the brand new Brook (Nature).

1. No, but this here is ridiculous
2. Yes: 4-wide and 6-wide, 8-wide max for trucks. This one is approx. 15-wide (!!!)

Lego still can do minifig scale fine in themes like City where it actually matters. For a car like this that's more for action play than any semblance of realism, a bigger scale can allow for more detail or more involved play features.

That was 18 years ago and the US Dollar value has had a big drop in the last 12 months.
this is a remake of a set from 2014, not a new concept to be excited about. also the set was already remade once before in 2021. this is likley the last legacy remake for this year, and a very confusing choice. not to mention overpriced
I think this is the best looking one yet, shame about the price, will consider getting it once it drops below 60
This looks really nice, much better than that bizarre 2021 remake and dare I say better than the original.
I'll probably see how it sells first, if it seems like it will sit on shelves I'll wait for a sale because it should be like $70-75 USD instead of 90.
Anyone else feel like someone on the Ninjago set team is bound and determined to keep that Nindroid hood mold from being disposed of?
A build that's now been done three times doesn't really justify the price tag. I can see this dipping really fast, wouldn't be surprised if it's part of the - 40% slashed sets around Insiders time....
For anyone genuinely upset about this being a remake, I'm going to suggest you never ever do a search for "Batmobile", "Hulkbuster", "Police Station", "Star Wars" or indeed, "LEGO".
Maybe you're better off not knowing.
Nice set, not so good price.

While I agree with the X-1 not being great, I think it's gross hyperbole to call the 15th anniversary a failure and "spit in the face". The blacksmith was a fantastic set in honor of the pilots and older fans. The display was splendid and perfect value. The polybag was a neat little throwback as well. Really it's only the X-1 as both Old Town and Lloyd's mech are solid.
If this was released as a normal set, and they did something more appropriate for the 15th anniversary I'd probably like it, but as is it just feels like a waste, Well designed, but a waste.

I agree that the blacksmith is great - except for the inaccurate Kai minifig. I dislike the Old Town set, as I'd have preferred they try to recreate one or more real locations from the show, rather than just making something up. Lloyd's mech is good, but I don't see it as a Legacy set; it's a rerelease of a fairly recent set, and to my mind "Legacy" sets would be pre-Season 8 models (as they all have been so far, IIRC). And that Ninja display set does nothing for me; it doesn't represent anything, and I'm not a minifig collector, so it was a waste of a product slot to me. Besides, the minifigs aren't even accurate, which is my biggest complaint about all these sets by far.
Perhaps "spit in the face" is too strong a phrase here. But, to me, having the idea of celebrating Ninjago and then not making models accurate to the show is very two-faced and in poor spirit. It seems the Ninjago design team wants to make sets the older fans will recognize, but won't make correct prints for the minifigs so that the 6-year-olds can still match them with the modern sets' minifigs. They want to have their market appeal both ways, and that frustrates me.

That's just a suggestion. They have to put that on there.
For $10 more the Blacksmith 71858 seems more playable, better build and display. Waiting for a review of 71861 The Old Town.
Cool design, well done, bad price, won't buy. My LEGO boycott continues until they start realizing that there are other companies that are doing what they do at better prices (I'm talking legit companies that are not stealing TLG or MOC designs).
