With all the excitement around the Pokémon launch today, it was remiss of me not to mention that a new gift with purchase, 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan, is also now available at LEGO.com.

I suspect it'll be the first of four such sets which'll be available at various times during the year. Unlike the shops, houses, and wonders series of collectables, this one is minifig scale which is likely to increase its appeal.

It's available from today until March 8th, free when you spend over €180/$180/£160. We'll be posting our review over the weekend.

By in Canada,

It seriously annoys me when Lego do a stunt like that. The GWP is released just a few days before all the good sets are released. Some you can pre-order and some you can not. By the time the set you want is available to order, the GWP is long gone.

In Canada, you have to spend $235 to get this tiny little thing. Sigh...

Jumped on this right away. That stall is going to look fantastic in my city. Annoying thing was the 2 sets I wanted worked out to $178.98. I already got the key chains on sale that for a previous time I hit that...
Had to swap my cart for a $250 and now I am much further over the threshold, but I get the Cat too...

I like this and would be looking to order something if not for the craziness of BDP Series 6 and 7, not to mention my recently biting the bullet on the Tour d’Avengers. Which reminds me, they still owe me my 2x points for that and points for S6. This marks day 7 with no response from LEGO CS, a new and unfortunate record.

Excellent GWP and very useful that they're back to pre-orders being valid for thresholds. 11375 and 11376 ordered as intended and 40906 + 30734 freebies added.

I managed to get this with the new titan mech and a mishmash of smaller items. It’ll go great with my Temple of Airjitzu.

By in Netherlands,

Nice little set, would buy this with no hesitation if it was regularly available for like €15-20 or so. But just put in my BDP order and a couple of additional exclusives to get free shipping, so I'm good for a while. Guess I'll have to make do with the similar Loz sets I bought years ago...

Putting that aside.....I do question the hashi skills on display here. Did the designer confuse them them with scissors? Poor shrimp....
(And hey, it's perfectly acceptable to just use your finger! The one stall I've seen in Japan that most closely resembles this you wouldn't even get hashi. Nor a plate or geta. You get the sushi straight from the hands of the chef, and eat it right away!)

I'm not going to be placing an order big enough to get this, but I *am* tempted to get it on the aftermarket. Mmm, sushi...

I signed in at midnight to get the Pokemon set, didn't see this advertised on the UK home page, it was all about Pokemon, so was pleasantly surprised to see this in my basket as well.
2x GWPs, plus £30 off using my insiders points, made my most expensive ever Lego purchase a little more bearable

This is so extremely my thing it may as well have my name written on it.

I phoned them a few days ago and after waiting for three quarters of an hour, I got to speak to someone and they sorted out my points, as well as some extra for waiting so long on hold. It is a problem they are aware of, they said, but I think you get better results via phone than email.

I think it would look better without the chopsticks and shrimp on the top. And if it had been smaller, the threshold could have been lower.

Cool but why is this not a $/€20 normal brand store exclusive set

Not available in Sweden apparently.

It is, but the threshold is 2205 sek.

By in Canada,

Making this a GWP will only fuel anger at TLC in people who don't happen to have hundreds of dollars free this week, but would have really enjoyed this little set. Myself included.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Ok, it's not promoted or included in the banner when I open the main page, but added to my cart if I add something reaching the threshold.

But 2205 SEK is a bit much though. Again we get the short end of the stick. 180€ is only 1900 SEK.... And $180 is 1600 SEK.

That’s the great thing about LEGO, the things you don’t like are easily removed!

The 40885 Duck Family set that was a GWP just a few days ago had a threshold of $100/€100/£90 and this set is less than 30 more pieces. No reason at all for this one to have such a steep threshold other than greed.

The only parts of it, imo, that make it special. :o)

Giant 3D roof signs are one of the best things Lego does and I will die on this hill. All shops, restaurants, food trucks, surf shacks, car washes and other services and facilities are instantly improved by the presence thereof.

But of course I grew up not that far from the Catford Cat, and used to go up to Camden Town with its high street full of them twice a week for Cecil Sharp House stuff, so I am a little biased.

Also correct. But biased.

Will look amazing in the Old Town I just ordered to qualify, can not wait.

You won't be alone on that hill.

I hope it doesn't sell out before March 1st, I have a few sets I want to buy on launch day and expect to have the GWP with it.

Of course, but not building that bit does not reduce the GWP threshold, does it?

7 days later, I finally hear back from customer service and they get me my 2x points, though nothing extra for my pain and suffering :o)

Additionally, they’re telling me it will be a bit longer for them to sort out the BDP points issues. While I’m flush with points, what about everyone else who really need them to secure these fleeting Insider reward sets?
