LEGO Icons Celebrates a Legend of the Skies with the Douglas DC-3 PAN AM Airliner
The LEGO Group today unveils the LEGO Icons Douglas DC-3 PAN AM Airliner, an impressive new building set created for fans of aviation history.
This collectable model invites builders to journey back into the golden age of air travel, recreating the legendary 1930s twin-engine aircraft that helped shape commercial aviation. With 1,903 pieces, the set captures the DC-3's unmistakable silhouette and includes an authentically detailed cockpit and passenger cabin, complete with aisle and seating. A standout functional feature is the retractable landing gear, operated via a simple dial.
Adding to its display-worthy appeal, the model includes four exclusive minifigures: a pilot, purser, stewardess and flight attendant, all wearing historically inspired PAN AM uniforms. Once complete, the aircraft can be showcased on a sturdy display stand with an information plaque, alongside a dedicated PAN AM-branded minifigure display, making it a prized collectable for aviation and LEGO enthusiasts alike.
The LEGO Icons Douglas DC-3 PAN AM set will be available for LEGO Insiders Early Access from 1st April 2026, and for all from 4th April 2026, priced at £199.99 GBP / €219.99 / $219.99.
I think this model looks fantastic, but what do you think of the DC-3 Airliner? Let us know in the comments.

I like it !!
I loved the Indiana Jones unofficial DC3 in Peril in Peru; day 1 buy here
Nice shaping on the plane, but those figs are great!
Howard Hughes--NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I’m interested to see if the side leg printing will be as crisp as it is in the renders
Catch it if you can!
Instant classic! I like this.
How cool! As an Arctic history buff, I'm a big DC-3 fan. The DC-3 was in operation in the Canadian Arctic and sub-Arctic until quite recently.

I was not expecting this today. I love it.
Nice, Lego Catch Me if You Can
I was hoping the Minifigures could fit inside so i could turn it into a C47, but now I'll wait to see if i get it at all.
No, it's too exensive, but I like it!
Been quite a long time since I last got excited for a set reveal from TLG, but this looks good!
Will in all likelihood by once at least slightly discounted.
The aircraft has nice details. However, let's talk about those minifigs! These are outstanding. They have fantastic prints and headwear.
What are those things hanging down from under the cockpit?
Very nice, but the price is excessive.
Fewer parts than the Concorde and the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, but more expensive.
Looks marvelous. And at under £200 a serious contender for 1st April!
Park this directly next to 10318 Concorde? Don't mind if I do!
Cool.
Have the James Bond minifig fly it (into LEGO sinkhole). Or, sticking with Bond, the climatic fight at the end of Casino Royale!

Pitot-static tubes, used to measure airspeed.
Rodger, Roger. You have clearance, Clarence. What's our vector, Victor?

Everything’s expensive in Switzerland.
Day one for me.
Was really hoping it’d be minifig scale. I guess that was unrealistic of me though.
Nice!
This looks fantastic. Though, I'm often nervous when LEGO leverages too much "forced perspective" in their lifestyle shots. That usually means the set will feel much smaller than you'd expect.
This is an amazing build, and my favorite thing about it is the scale. With a wingspan of 76 cm, this is very close to 1:38 scale, which is my preferred minifig scale (1 stud = 12 inches). The interior isn't built for minifigs, but the exterior is nearly perfect minifig scale!

I haven't noticed it on recent sets, but I thought that on seeing the second lifestyle shot with the slightly out of focus woman in the background. The camera must have been quite close to the plane for that shot.
Oh, my, spent my child hood traveling and this brings back memories, this is a must have.

11378 has a higher RRP than 10318 everywhere, not just in CH.
Nice looking but that price....yikes.
Was the air stewardess modelled on the lady in the pics? Or the other way round :-)
I love it by the way!
Looks fantastic, but it's unfortunately quite expensive. Will definitely consider it once I can get a nice discount on it.

Us Americans will probably not get it on much of a clearance. :(
Loving this. I'm a pilot, so I like all these flying models and my father used to skydive out of those things when they were doing formation jumps.
The problem I'm having with these, is space. It takes a lot of room to showcase these models properly. You need space in 3 dimensions while with regular models you usually don't need much depth to display them (32 studs deep is generally sufficient). The Concorde requires a lot of space as it is quite wide and long. Ideally, the best setup would be to attach them on the ceiling with a fishing line but then you cannot interact with them and dusting is quite an exercise.
Since this will most likely be a Lego exclusive, this mean it will be next to impossible to get a discount on it in Canada. I haven't made my mind yet.
Modding it for Indiana Jones should be fairly straightforward as all the blue parts most likely exists in yellow. As mentioned many times above, the minifigs are top notch. It's kind of a flying version of the Lego Orient Express train from not long ago.

Actually, the airport scene was in the first half of this great movie.
Virtually nothing is a "day 1 purchase" for me these days, but I do like this.
The only bit I’d really like is the minifigures and minifigure stand, which are very nice indeed. The plane looks like it would be an absolute nightmare to display if you don’t have a handy sideboard around, but I’m sure anyone with an appropriate spot to put it will enjoy it enormously, and if I’m very very lucky one of them will have no interest in minifigs or the stand and sell those off for cheap.
Boy oh boy, Lego hit it out of the park.
Nice shaping, well proportioned, looks great for display and play.
Heard people want to mod this to a Douglas C-47 Skytrain. Love to see how that looks.
Good to see a new Margot Robbie minifigure.
I rearranged things recently, thinking it might give me more space, and the Enterprise took up a lot more room than I expected.
A very nice set indeed. And it looks like an easy mod to turn in into the retro KLM livery.

I find airplanes the hardest to store or display because of the space required for each one.
Book me on the first flight! Love that it comes with those excellent minifigures and PamAm logo stand. Overall the plane looks good, with a few areas that could use improvement (the props look a little clunky, and the engines rather more bulbous than those I see on reference photos) Interesting use of what at first glance looked like folding wings to achieve the dihedral angle of the wings.
A gorgeous piece of aviation history.
If you’re gonna make a micro-scale interior, at least throw in some 10 microfigures.

It's a newer piece. It has appeared on a few figs, but it debuted in 71039-13 on Hawkeye.
This looks very nice and I will buy it eventually. I'm thinking of doing a recolor and turning it into a C-47 and giving it D-day stripes.

The torsos have the Pan Am insignia so likely won’t be on PAB. Third party IP is usually excluded.
Concorde, the 747 and now the DC-3. Really hope lego continue to make planes I want so many. I know they'd never make anything military (cough cough V-22), but things like airliners and little planes would be so cool
The included minifigures are a nice surprise, even though they just increase the retail price by 10% (compared to the Corcorde for instance) and don't contribute to the building experience. Too bad the nano-figures have been discontinued. They would fit well in the seats.
What I don't like are the brick-built propellers (didn't they have enough 3 blade props in their part portfolio to variant a reissue?), the dark azure 20T gear sticking out (could have used a black bevel gear) and the ugly sprue mark on the display plaque. They are not even ashamed to show manufacturing defects and color variations in the marketing material anymore. Better than photoshoping them, out of course, but it's not the trend I like to see.

Thank you! I couldn’t find it anywhere for some reason, apparently it was a bit older than I thought.
Impressive. The minifigs are excellent, and the design looks quite good. I'm impressed. I like it. Just wonder if that eyesore blue gear (even hidden under as it is) could have come in another color, just for the sake of the aesthetic. I mean it's no 6+ action feature set range.
I really like it.
Only thing I like less is the look of the wheels attachment (probably needed to support the weight and allow retraction).

Well the DC-3 was primarily a WWII military plane (over 10.000 produced just for this purpose) out of a total of 16.000. I am surprised this aircraft model is not considered "too contemporary" by their anti-war core values (which I don't find on the website any more). Guess money talks now.

Your answer is correct.
You win one internet.
Okay, what’s the actual difference between a stewardess and a flight attendant? I’ve always heard those two terms used interchangeably.
@emQ said:

Someone in my club asked that. I know the Hans Christian Andersen minifig is yellow, but shouldn’t be. The Jane Austen set has yellow minifigs in the wall art. Foosball was all fleshies. I know they said that all real people and licensed characters will be colored according to their appearance, but I don’t know that they swore off doing that for fictional or generic minifigs.
No it doenst interest me AND its too expensive (1€ is the same as 1$???)

You'll notice this is a civilian airliner in Pan Am colors.
Lego is allowed to make civilian versions of vehicles that were designed for civil use and saw extensive civil use.
A quick Google search shows that many thousands of the Ford Model T were supplied to the US and allied armed forces during WWI and later. Does that mean a 1913-model civilian Ford Model T runabout (11376) is off-limits for an Icons vehicle?

Maybe they aren't generic and we need to pore over old photos to find which specific people these minifigs are meant to be.

It seems to vary by line but also be somewhat arbitrary even within each line. The CMF of the British bobby was modelled on an actual policeman but the minifigure was yellow.
I laughed so much at fact these two ladies have printed legs all around and stuff from many licenced 18+ sets dont.

My thoughts exactly. As much as I love the Concorde, the one reason I haven't bought it is I just don't have the space to properly display it. I think the best option I could think of is to hang it below my (glass) coffee table. But that's just waiting for a disaster to happen. And that's no different with this one, a lot shorter, but also quite a bit wider.
And I don't like the idea of hanging them from the ceiling, apart from the practical issues, the underside just isn't exactly the best looking part of either of these.
Maybe the best option would be to mount them to a wall vertically, like I've seen several people do with the big Technic sports cars?
21309 is still one of my all time favorite sets: Even when it is pretty huge, it takes up so little space to display.
Very tempting and much better shaping than the Concorde.
One of my first Airfix kits was a Dakota Gunship the RAF C-47 variant of the DC3 (as mentioned earlier in the comments), so this ticks another childhood-revisited box :)
That pilot's faceprint better be available on PAB, or else! :P
Interesting decision to use the post-1958 "jet-age" colour scheme on this - I suppose it is the most recognisable Pan Am livery, but very few DC-3s stayed in their fleet long enough to be repainted into this.
A good representation of the earlier 1930s-40s scheme can be seen here:

Good luck to you on your quest to make a C-47! I did that to my heavily modified Peril in Peru 7628 late last year, and I can't wait to see modified versions of this set as well! (TWA is another MOD I'd like to see someday)

Let us know how your search turns out! As for me, I’ve got a movie to watch, and my breath to not hold.
Great to have a model of the DC-3 but adding the Pan-Am livery and display stand definitely puts it over the top. Amazing that there are still a reasonable number of these aircraft still operating today almost 90 years after the first ones took to the air.
I like it, but I don't get the minifigs or stand. I'd rather it be $30 cheaper.
There are a lot of sets I wish I had the space for (10294 and 10318 , just to name two), but this is far and away the one I most wish I had the space to display. If I had that space, this would be a Day One purchase. I mean, it's the most iconic propeller-powered airliner ever, and one of the most iconic aircraft period!

The interior is bigger than microfigure scale. The closest I can see is the Games figures, and Lego hasn't made those in years.

They used to say that the only replacement for a DC-3 was another DC-3.
This is a very expensive minifigs pack.
It looks neat. The only large plane I have is a Sopwith Camel. I don't know if I need another plane since I'm not an aviator. But the figures look solid and being a figure collector that is appealing. But I don't need the set for only them.

Looks amazing, will look nice next to my Concorde and Space Shuttle Discovery sets :-) But it begs a question, why didn’t Concorde come with minifgs too? Two pilots, two flight attendants; one of each in British Airways uniform, another one in Air France one

My septuagenarian father bought a Cobi Avenger and almost gave up on construction sets forever. I helped him finish it but we can't touch it or it breaks in half. In order to cleanse his palette, I got him 10321 Corvette and he had such a great time building it and really appreciates it now on display. He's so jazzed about it that he's already browsing other LEGO offerings for his next build. Of course it's my luck that he's leaning towards the retired Volkswagen sets. :o(

It is nearly perfect 1:38 minifig-scale, and it is humongous: $220 worth of Lego is a humongous Lego plane.
It's really well-designed! I especially like the interior with tiny seats inside. If I was interested in aviation history (or had the shelf space), I would definitely consider getting it.
Watch the display sticker say DOUGAS in the first print run.

It is, but look at that set and tell me if you can imagine it fitting seven minifigs inside the fuselage. Then look up pictures of Earhart next to the plane it was based on.
It looks like about 1:36 ratio, which is close to minifig scale

Sure. If _anyone_ gets around to buying them for purely civilian use, it could come back. But right now it is exclusively used by militaries.
Any chance Lego will correct the flag on the right side of the tail?

You're in luck! Revell is releasing a Technic building kit of the Osprey, officially licensed. It's not available in the USA, but maybe you'll be able to get it in Singapore. It's not motorized but it has most of the same features. I don't know what company manufactures the bricks.

21309 is still one of my all time favorite sets: Even when it is pretty huge, it takes up so little space to display."
My display piece of 21309 is quite sizable. I built a MLP/LUT and a rather large section of the supporting pad for it. It has a footprint (and height) comparable to the recent Lego Eiffel Tower 10307. I bought a piece of furniture especially for it - I wanted something deep enough to fully support the model - well worth it IMO. This is flanked by same scale version of rockets for Gemini(Atlas) and Mercury(Redstone) programs.
There needs to be another option "I don't care about buying the set, but I can't wait for @FlagsNZ's review of it"....

You are the perfect customer! Judging by the comments on this thread, there is quite an interest for the minifigs. Buy the plane, sell each fig for $10 each, do whatever you want with the stand.
Atrocious pricing as usual
Strange no-one has mentioned the pistols under the engine, although these would go well with the Indiana Jones and James Bond comments. I think they are meant to be probes for measuring outside temperature, windspeed etc., but do look odd. What would look cool given the wing size are moveable flaps.
For a classic plane good to see the return of the vintage clear brick used in the original 1970's Lego planes. This sadly means that the roof is too low for mini-figs. Maybe someone will replace with usual 2x2 window pieces to also give head room and space for the mini-fig arms, or Lego will recreate the Indiana Jones 6 wide plane.
Catch me if you can MOC'S incoming. Question can those PAM-AM stickers be used I have a few blank cheques to create?
How actually owns the PAM-AM brand now, the company doesn't exist.
Unofficial Leo, Margot and Christina mini-figs?
Despite all those who love to whinge about the price as a matter of course this will still be on back-order within 3 days!
My Dad who is an aviator buff thinks it's really good but expensive. This is not his favourite aircraft though, I think he would be more tempted if a Spitfire was released.
Hint, hint, Lego.

I didn’t know anyone used starboard flags back then. At the first Brickworld Ft. Wayne Expo, I asked an off-duty cop about the backwards flag on his right shoulder, and he said flag code was changed because otherwise it looks like the flag is retreating. That was the first time I’d ever seen one with the blue field on the right, other than when someone is displaying it improperly.

The small windows on the new LEGO DC-3 aren't (vintage) clear 1x2 bricks, they are all 1x2x1 clear panels (with rounded corners): https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4865bT=C&C=12
The blue pieces that separate them are all small blue corner panels 1x1x1:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6231T=C&C=7
And since the layers built above it are plates, tiles and bricks on their sides, there aren't any studs connecting to the top of the whole rows of windows, so you cannot (directly) replace these with the window pieces you mention. You would have to use the bigger/ taller window pieces, build in on their sides as well. Probably be best in that case to use these brackets: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4585T=C&C=7
However, IMHO the main hull of the DC-3 would become too high/ out of proportion, unless you'd make the whole plane wider/ bigger... So personally I'd leave it just the way the LEGO designers recreated it. When I no longer have to spend my money on car repairs or household stuf that's breaking (because of EOL), I'm definitely going to buy this beautiful LEGO DC-3 set!

That's a piece that's currently in production (https://brickset.com/parts/6304837/flat-tile-1x2-no-286) and making a print that looked like the one in that picture would require the designer to use a "frame," so probably not.

While I very much do care about the set (if I had the space, I'd be buying it Day One), I'm looking forward to that, too.

Why are you listening to My Dad's opinion? Do you know what kind of trouble you can get in by doing that? Seriously, though, while I love this, I'd love a Spitfire (or just about any WWII fighter), too. And unless it was a good bit bigger than minifig scale, I'd have room for it!

Great, now My Dad spits fire, too?
Dad was a pilot and loved to fly these old piston airplanes when he wasn't flying commercial (he flew for Western and Delta, but he loved the white hats that Pan Am pilots wore with their uniforms). I actually flew on a DC-3 with him a couple of times in my very younger years. Very cool, but very noisy with a basic cargo interior layout and no insulation against the metal skin. I'm sure the airline versions pre-WWII were much more comfortable!

You're in luck! Revell is releasing a Technic building kit of the Osprey, officially licensed. It's not available in the USA, but maybe you'll be able to get it in Singapore. It's not motorized but it has most of the same features. I don't know what company manufactures the bricks.

Much appreciated, though I prefer Lego's fictional rescue livery. Those orange parts gave the model some colour.
Not something I'm going to buy but I really like it. Funny thing, every time I see a Pan Am logo I think of Catch Me If You Can. Really like that movie.

I believe the orange livery was actually based on a demo livery of its predecessor, the Agusta-Bell AB139.

I know them from both the movie and Lockerbie.....did they ever do anything else?
A Lego Lockerbie set would be quite economical though....only needs half a 747!

They were founded in 1927 and went out of business in 1991, so it's safe to say that they did other things.

Well, in 2001 they ran the regular service into Earth orbit: https://www.space.com/32258-orion-space-plane-2001-space-odyssey-photo-essay.html
Nice, but it’s not a minifig scale. Easy pass for me. :)))

It apparently is minifig-scale. The problem is that minifigs aren’t.
i found out just today i have an older airplane door model this looks cool enough to replicate but i probably have no special airplane pieces that aren't old
Curious why the landing lights are blue rather than clear white... aside from that it's a gorgeous model and I'm absolutely buying this as soon as I can. (My wallet will be feeling it, but it's worth it for an aviation nerd like myself.)
I'm pretty dang sure.
I've seen a C-47 in person, and it's quite large, easily the same size as a medium bomber such as a B-25. If my math is correct, its wingspan would be 25.28 inches if it were minifig scale, which is substantial.
Is this a reference to the movie Catch Me If You Can with Leonardo DiCaprio? Other than that, nice build / set / airplane!

First 10294, now this. Why do people keep associating sets based on things that were iconic before DiCaprio was even born with his movies?

I already knew about the Titanic build. I was looking at the PANAM logo on this set, on the plane and instantly thought about the movie "Catch Me If You Can". Nothing more, nothing less. The best answer I received was "coincidence".
