UCS Helicarrier Confirmed?

Posted by ,

A UCS Avengers Helicarrier set has been rumoured for a couple of months now and thanks to some eagle-eyed members of the Brickset forum we finally have a first indication of what it might look like.

The set can be seen during the video introduction in the letter 'G' of DESIGN, where Marcos Bessa seems to be showing off the set in another designer video. Although we can only see a small portion of the set it is quite clearly a Helicarrier as the twin antennae on the front of the vehicle in the films are visible along with what appears to be a miniature Quinjet coming in to land.

Whether or not this set will be affiliated with the LEGO Ideas project currently in review we do not know, nor do we have any confirmation of when the set might be available. March 1st 2015 has been suggested with a retail price of $349.99, in which case I will be saving my pennies for then!

Thanks to Groove Bricks for the enhanced image.

By in France,

I hope we can have a big set with more than 3000 parts.
But I wonder how they're going to deal with the minifig scale...

Holy ****! This has motivated to look for my first job! I cannot stand missing an Avengers Helicarrier, Detective's Office, Santa's Workshop, The Dark Knight Tumbler, Sandcrawler, Volvo L350F Wheel Loader, Fairground Mixer, The Simpsons House, MetalBeard's Sea Cow and the Parisan Restaraunt!

I know it will probably be at least 4 times smaller that the one on LEGO Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/63951 but if it has that level of details and it's size is similar to Super Star Destroyer I will be happy. It will probably come with a display stand and information plaque. As for minifigures it will probably be characters that are S.H.I.E.L.D. members in suits like Nick Fury, Agent Phil Coulson. LEGO is known for this but it would be interesting if they mix all the scenes and play features from Avengers, Captain America The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron, this could also result in a larger minifigure numbers in the set.

To be honest LEGO is quite good now at pumping a cool sets every year so our desires fall to other sets which make us forget about the other sets we previously wanted. Which also results in a very long wishlist. That's what my job search starts now...

Lol! I just sent an e-mail to HUW about this. Looks like he got it covered! :D

I doubt it can have anything to do with Ideas if it's already been made, before the Ideas one has even gone to review. They must have been working on it for over a year.

As they say, suggesting obvious models from licensed themes they're already working on is a waste of time, as they'll already have explored them.

Although it will be an awesome set I hope they don't go down the Tumbler route and bundle a couple of exclusive figs with it even though they don't fit in with the sizings. Because if they do I will have to buy it just for those (although will then probably just flip the remaining set like I have with the Tumbler).

I have to have this! Although it's $350, so I guess I'll be doing a little bit of work now and then.......
Anyway, this year is going to be expensive, with the Age of Ultron sets coming out and all! Another Quinjet, this time a hundred dollars?!! Yowza!

LEGO designers who work on Exclusive/D2C sets are quick with decision making and building so they can design those sets between 3-4 months each (Some have taken longer e.g. Sydney Opera House because of complexity between the medium and IP) LEGO probably had an idea for a Helicarrier set whilst they were deciding what the first 'Avengers' movie sets should be. Now that the LEGO Ideas set has sky-rocketed to 10,000 supporters it showed LEGO now is the time to pull out the idea of a Helicarrier set as many fans requested it and now that the theme is settled.

That's going to be a pretty cool set, even though I don't collect any super heroes sets it still looks like a good set. I hope they have an UCS Minas Tirith already in the works as well, that would be even better than the helicarrier.

Reminds me of the WW2 aircraft carrier models I used to see at hobby shops when I was little.

I was talking to an employee at my local brick and mortar store and he said that he has seen a photo of the UCS Helicarrier. He said it would be along the lines of the UCS Super Star Destroyer in that it would be microscale but would have minifigure compatibility. Here's to hopin'!!!

I have no idea what a Helicarrier is....................methinks it might be best to keep it that way and save myself £200.

Someone needs to make sure things like this don't get into the design videos for OTHER SETS. UCS R2 did this same thing.
At least I'm only wanting the UCS slave one so far. And of course stuff like regular sets and mixels..

@HK-50-09 maybe its intended to tease the community to look eagle-eyed at the videos

By in United States,

Probably so. Everyone does that 'Leaks' thing these days , music movies and all. Not surprising LEGO would too.
Anyway I just know it'll cost a bloody fortune. Probably about as much as 10188 except it won't be half as much in terms of playability.

The mini quinjet looks almost identical to 30162-1 plus you can see some of the rotors in the background

By in United States,

I think to get a general size of the set you need to look at the Sydney Oprah House which retails close to the same price.

Remember guys, the Sandcrawler was rumored to be $350 as well and it turned out to be $300. I still can't afford it regardless.

Why haven't we heard about more spring D2Cs? This year we had The Simpsons, Parisian Restaurant, Maersk Ship, and MetalBeard's Ship. Next year, we've got the Detective's Office and the Slave I and perhaps the Kwik-E-Mart. There's either a surprise in store for us or LEGO has realized that another D2C would exhaust everyone's cash reserves for the summer sets.

Today's news was brought to you by the letter G.

I'll need some gift cards this year for certain. And possibly a bigger house soon. My collection is getting out of control. But I'm still excited for this and detective office and all of the other awesome sets coming out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Actually it could just be something they're working on for fun. They've done things like that before. Unlikely , however.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If its microscale with figures from any of the Marvel Universe movies, then I'll probably pass. However, if it is finally a true comic book rendition instead of a movie or cartoon, with a solid five or six Avengers, I'll have to pony-up the money...

By in United Kingdom,

Oh dear. My wallet is saved from being bankrupt. Far too expensive... But looks good anyway. :-(

Gravatar
By in United States,

Need to make something on Ideas that is both a voter magnet and original.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Lets see play features... minijets, superhero minifigures...but... would it be swooshable?

Hopefully they would cram as many grey bits as possible... would make a great parts pack for bricklinking 10179s!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Probably best that they leaked this, otherwise nobody would have any way to save up for this.

Kind of disappointed in all the people saying that its 'far too expensive', granted its costly, but considering we don't know how many pieces this has (Last count on the ideas page was 6000) it could be a very good parts per piece ratio.

Needs a minimum of 10 figures in honesty for something that price... most likely including;
- Agent Coulson
- Maria Hill
- Black Widow
- Nick Fury

Though like someone else already commented about, it would be great to set a set with the Winter Soldier and having him with a helicarrier set would make sense given the events of 'The Winter Soldier'

By in Norway,

I really want Falcon, but my integrity keeps me from buying that awful Hulk set...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not sure why people can't complain of the cost. $350 for a plastic toy is ridiculous. There is a reason the UCS MF didn't sell well when it first went through.

As far as this is concerned, I watched Winter Soldier for the first time yesterday, so it might be neat to have this as a set, but at the same time, where am I going to put it? And just think of all the other LEGO I could afford at that price!

Someone said the helicarrier turbine was the size of the motorcycle rim, as in it used that piece..clever, and interesting scaling.

It is quite obvious LEGO will throw in exclusive figures. How desirable they will be, who knows. I'd love for it to be a "play set" and call for many figures, but I can see them throwing in a few figures and calling it good. Super Star Destroyer had like 4 or 5 figures for that ginormous cost. They could do the same here. Tumbler is 200 with 2 figures. Orthanc was 200 with 5 figures but 3.5 were repeats...

And it is obvious LEGO does this on purpose. How else will they get the word out effectively. Rumors are all hearsay, but a small pixelated picture is fact....

By in United States,

As long as they capture the Winter Soldier Helicarrier / Homeworld 2 Hiigaraan carrier vibe for this set, I'm all over this. 2015 is going to be expensive! Detectives Office, green Technic racecar, Helicarrier, and Jurassic World!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I hope this set will be confirmed soon cant wait for it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This, Detective Office, Creator Train...
My 2015 will be complete...

Gravatar
By in United States,

there is also a mini quinjet so it is almost all the way confirmed

By in Germany,

I pretty much like Marvel like the next guy and I even might have that amount to spend in general. But I am seriously unsure about spending it on a Helicarrier, when there are so many other interesting things I could spend it on. Perhaps I would spend it on a JJ Abrams Enterprise or the Pankot temple from Temple of Doom, but I guess I am too little a fanboy to spend it on a Marvel toy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So we know the Ideas Hellicarrier is a wash now, so that's interesting. A UCS Marvel thing. That is also really interesting. I'll be curious as to how well it sells.

It's Slave-1 and the detective office for me, though. Gotta keep my Bubba Feets collection going.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ Not only does it cross the Ideas Hellicarrier off the list, but I think it also spells doom for the Ideas X-Mansion. It was probably unlikely they'd release something that big to begin with, but there's no chance they'd do it when a UCS release is also on the shelves. They'd cannibalize each other.

By in United States,

Wow... Lego fans are so good at catching things. I would have completely missed something like that.

@peterlmorris
@Modok

I'm not sure how both of you immediately seem to jump on the idea that this is not the Lego Ideas Helicarrier, given it reached the needed support several months back meaning this could easily be the Lego Ideas Helicarrier and very likely is.

By in United States,

Awesome that LEGO included this hidden tidbit, probably as a test to see if the community would spot it.
