Four of the summer wave of Technic sets were revealed overnight, and among them is one that's genuinely interesting, bringing the random box concept to the theme: 42233 Mighty Machines - Series 1.

The box contains around 40 parts, some of which are new, that build one of eight mini models.

The other three models are boring cars of which you can view pictures after the break.

By in United Kingdom,

Love the Ferrari and mighty machines.
Do we know what the flagship model will be yet?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I kinda like those mighty machines, though I can't help but feel those are a step back compared to polybags (yet priced higher). Kinda makes me wish they went the "universal" route and instead made the set a bit bigger with parts and instructions for all of these (not all at once obviously).

As for the cars.....even as a car enthousiast I'm just tired of those. And why is that Viper shown with Tokyo and Mt.Fuji in the background?

And looking at the Tumbler....apart from it being massively overpriced (I assume it's remote controlled?), did no one at Lego notice those prominent blue pins and red axles, and think "this looks like crap"? At least it will have some unusual steering mechanism though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The batmobile is Control+. Isn't this the first time we've seen control+ in a set for ages? I think the consensus what it was likely control+ was going to be discontinued; so now do we think it might not be?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Those Mighty Machines are very cute! I can see those being a big hit with kids.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I wonder whether you’ll be able to scan the collectible Technic boxes to determine what’s inside as you can with CMFs.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Technic Tumbler - hopefully this means we finally get a Tumbler set that the front wheels can actually turn?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

i realy hope that the mighty machines boxes are not replacing the next cmf series like the f1 boxes did! ...

It's a Forza Horizon 6 tie-in set. This time the franchise has picked Japan as its setting.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

The cars don’t look boring to me. They might become my second and third Technic cars after the orange Supra.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

boring cars, ... i'm rather sceptical on Technic sets myself, but these cars aren't boring to me, at all

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Looks so cool. Especially the Lego Technic collectables

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Where are the affordable non-licensed sets?
Where are the functions? Gears, pneumatics, cool stuff?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh, Tumbler!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Is that windscreen piece new or have I just never noticed it before?
And a new tiny panel for the back of the dump truck and the blade of the bulldozer?

that all happened decades ago! and technic sets looked like technic sets and not like 3d sticker books..

I have bad news for you...

Ech, I don't want to write negative comment but:
- mighty machines will be bigger shelf warmer than f1 micro cars
- Horizon cars look boring (kids in my family are more excited by jeep, Bronco etc)
- Tumbler might be good one if functions/price ratio will be fine

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh look, even more cars.

And if you want a construction-themed set, you have to gamble on blind boxes.

Seriously, that crap should be banned, and TLG is beyond scummy for extending it to Technic.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Constructicons! Form devestator!

They all sold pretty well, here.

It's the Speed Champions F1 cars that are still sitting in giant unsold piles in all the local department stores, slowly gathering dust.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Curious because I don’t collect Technic, is there a reason why they make a lot of cars? Do they just sell really well or is it something else?

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Now blind box sets? That Batman Tumbler....

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

If you combine all 8 Mighty Machines, can you build Devastator?

They aren't, the next one is licensed and the theme has been leaked already.

Last year's 42214 had Control+ so it's not discontinued (yet). Still, I hope this Tumbler is the last one with it and Technic will get a new system for the 50th anniversary next year.

By in United States,

The Mighty Machines are cute; I'll probably at least get the wrecking ball. Something just occurred to me: CMF series (and the F1 series) are available from lego.com in boxes of six, because that's half the series, but there are eight Mighty Machines, will they have anything comparable?

@Zander said:
"I wonder whether you’ll be able to scan the collectible Technic boxes to determine what’s inside as you can with CMFs."

The F1 series let you do that, so I'm sure this will, too.

@chaosderek said:"Constructicons! Form devestator!"

Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I was a kid, my grandmother bought my brother and me all of the Transformers that made up Devastator and gave us each one every time we visited her house until we had the complete giant robot. All that to say, these blond box construction vehicles should have used lime green parts. And someone needs to figure out a Devastator rebuild using all of them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why does Mighty Machines feel like copyright infringement? If you know, you know.

I’m guessing you’re referring to the tiny little cars from the 80s and not the Canadian TV series from the 90s.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It's sad when the only non-licensed, non-car, non-display-only thing that Technic Designers are still allowed to do is this tiny blind box stuff. I really hope they are putting the Data Matrix codes on these too. Kids should not be left to buy loot boxes.

They're G2 obviously

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nothing in it for me. I am a bit done with the technic cars at this scale. Too little functions to make them worthwile

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Mighty Machines are pretty cool! Nice little impulse buy sets. And it looks like they all have functions to some extent, even if a little basic.
Sad that this is arguably one of the more interesting things to come out of Technic lately.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

The Micro Machines look pretty nice. I'm going to buy a few. Hope I don't get the wrecking ball machine, as it seems to have the least new parts.

Also, hope I don't get the one with the most wheels, as I have enough of those wheels to last a lifetime.

The new parts appear to be pretty generic and nice. Good stuff.

Regarding the cars, it seems like the line between Speed Champions and Technic is becoming blurred. These cars are becoming more detailed, and sit somewhere between Speed Champions and Icons.

@Oli said:

Nope...completely new sub-theme for LEGO Technic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

wonder what the price on the mighty machines will be

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I don't think The Tumbler is a 'boring car' thank you very much!

Something about it does seem a little off though.

EDIT: $320 in Australia. Worst. Set. Of. The. Year

They sell really well, especially to the general population, better than cranes or helicopters do.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The mighty machines genuinely feels like something LEGO would've done in the peak era in the 2010's. I will actually be buying technic for once. The best idea Lego has had this year.

I'm sorry. Actually I have good news for you! :D
First photo was so slick that I thought there is no turning wheels. Still price is awful.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

@Zordboy
Okay, maybe it's my region but looking at last ~8 years and minifigure series in NON Toys shops: F1 and spiderverse minifigs were selling worst here. Not disappearing from shelves even during 2+1 promos

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mighty Machines are exactly the kind of budget line I've been hoping to see from Technic. Since this is Series 1, I do wonder what they have in store for future ideas. Construction vehicles are an easy gateway for kids and adults to buy, so that opens the door to all sorts.

Forza Horizon 6 takes place in Japan.

How is this an improvement over the polybags? You don't know what you're gonna get, whatever you get will be half the size and piece count, yet 25% more expensive....

To be fair, I do still like them, bur they are not exactly a great deal...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Someone will definetly make Transformers Constructicon from mighty machines sets.

I would try myself too.

They don’t. The Dodge looks like a Viper, and the Ferrari looks like not-a-Viper.

Making the rando sets all yellow seems like a miss, unless they have some sort of combiner model that can be built with the full series. But it probably won’t be bent on world conquest.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Even if I don't care that much about modern Technic, I was really disappointed that 42233 Mighty Machines was not a single set similar to 30435 Build Your Own Hogwarts Castle. The models seems to have a lot of shared parts, and we really don't need more stupid lootbox gambling.

@jockos198 said: "Last year's 42214 had Control+ so it's not discontinued (yet)"

Before even *considering* to buy any Control+ stuff, read @Yesurbius' review of that set and pay close attention to the "It has cryptographically signed firmware making compatibility with PyBrick nearly impossible" part. This is such a big step in the wrong direction that we should stay *far* away from this stuff until Lego issues an official statement that they'll stop playing such dirty John Deere games.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Not much meat on the bones for this first showing.

Recently, Lego Technic Designers have limited the turning radius of most of the models they've created - which is seriously annoying (albeit probably realistic - no car really turns on a dime except maybe a black cab - but it's easier for play). As for the Tumbler, just by its geometry, you know the turning radius will be gigantic to the point where it will be almost useless inside a house.

Let's hope that 42242 (Unimog) is better. At least it has pneumatic functions and the model looks half decent (that's no 8110 but might still be good).
Once again my Lego budget won't be in the Technic theme in 2026.

As an aside, just went shopping for the new CMF series: the mysterious Ronin is harder to find than the Bionicle cosplay (at least in my region).

Gravatar
By in South Korea,

I'll accept that Tumbler IF AND ONLY IF its front wheels can eject to form the Batpod.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The dump truck cab appears to use one new part, and the dumper uses new L/R paired parts, and I think they're really stretching the limits of what you can possibly do with those parts in this scenario.

I see your point. I haven't bought the new Control+ sets (all in 1 hubs) exactly for this reason. I haven't read Yesurbius' review but have seen RacingBricks' so I know about the problem. Not that I know anything about programming but still makes me sad. Also, TLG still calls them Control+ sets but they have nothing to do with it IMO.

By in Canada,

Finally, technic blind boxes. Those are something I've been wanting for years.
I've always loved small technic sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will LMAO if those blind boxes are even 4 USD...

They'd only be worth it if they combine to form Devastator...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m not much of a Technic fan for reasons both aesthetic and mechanical (the machine in question being me) but those cars don’t look all that alike besides a certain essential carishness and central stripes. Almost every detail and aspect of construction is different.
