I thought you meant by “not a car” another set like the space ones they’ve done recently and got my hopes up. At least the Unimog is cool. $130 isn’t terrible but a little steep for it I think, but I’m looking forward to a review
The creative juice between 42222 and 42241 is out of the chart.
We got a non car Technic set but that was only possible by having three times as many car sets to be released with it.
At least 42231 has something other Technic cars don't have: the engine function.
Unimog looks really cool!
I like the Unimog... the rest would be better as Icons sets.
Nice models.
Unimog is cool I guess.....though calling it "not a car" is a bit of a stretch :-)
They are all cars.
Poor Huw, having to post at 3:40 am new releases because TLG said "but wait, there is more". Can't TLG just publish all their stuff at the same time like a professional company would do? It's bad enough the images are not yet on their website when the embargo lifts so you're forced to take the pictures from retailers website.
That article title click bait! xD
And you fooled us! Unless in UK specialized truck isn't a car.
@Huw please, let me correct the statement about the last pneumatic set. The last ones were 42174 and 42175 in 2024. ;)

We had the images in advance and scheduled the articles.
The new Charger looks SO much better then the old one for sure, it just looks less boxy & awkward to me.

The Unimog is a truck. More specifically, it's a multipurpose truck or MPT.

Trucks are cars. ;)
They roll on wheels on axis.
Or include a definition section to the standard operating procedure.
"Four more Technic cars revealed one of which has pneumatics!"
Let's hope that Unimog isn't as disappointing as the big orange one years ago.
I'm confused, what is going on with the Unimog? It has all the normal car technic functions we know and love: fake engine and steering. But it looks like it does other things too? Pneumatic crane, outriggers, tilting bed, suspension? Not sure how I feel about this... almost like it is some sort of technical set...
Sarcasm aside, really love the Unimog. Awesome functions and colors in a small-ish package. Pricing is also unexpectedly good - the 42144 Material Handler was $150 for only 835 pieces, so this new set is a bargain in comparison.
Pleased to see the Unimog (cue: “does it have portal axles?” chat). Looks great both for colours and functions.
The lifestyle shots suggest the chassis is rather flexible. Granted a challenge when it’s just a flattish ladder structure in the middle.

That's good to hear at least. But if I click on the Unimog now the LEGO website gives "not found" error. That is totally unacceptable. When a release is scheduled, TLG should unblock the entries on their website automatically too and all info and visual material has to be available on release day. Please give this feedback to TLG. It's happening way too often nowadays.

It has four wheels, an engine, a steering wheel, and it can drive. I believe that classifies as an automobile.

They are usually 'unlocked' at 2-3pm on the day of announcement.

Well, the other Technic cars do have the mini simulated engines, but the Charger does have the more proper full-size engine
So we can expect the Eclipse in speed Champions scale probably this time next year.
This kind of sounds like clickbait, though.
"THREE NEW TECHNIC CARS AND YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE FOURTH SET IS (it is a car)! CAR-HATERS HATE THESE WEIRD NEW SETS (because they are cars)! CLICK HERE TO SEE NEW CARS IN YOUR AREA (including the fourth set, which is also a car)!"

Well it seems to have worked. You clicked :-)

That really isn't the brag you think it is, Huw.

I was not into Lego at that times. But wasn't that very popular? Because It was one one of the most wishlisted technic set here. So It should be no flaw. Wonder what I am missing?
I don't get why people are calling 42242 a car just because it has four wheels. I've seen a lot of trucks with four wheels; I have never seen a car that had a crane coming out of it.

So this is totally not a car?

I wrote a review about it back in the day: https://brickset.com/reviews/42140

I said I had not seen one, now I have seen one. Show me another one that wasn't a one-off promotional thing.

Crane in a car.
I'd really like a set like 42131: Cat D11 Bulldozer or 9398 4x4 Crawler again. The sports cars look great, but I'm not interested in them. Why are there suddenly so many sports cars in LEGO Technic?
Best regards
Johannes

5 designers spent 6 months doing that
The Unimog has serious 2010 old school quality Technic vibes. A weird thing among boomer-display-pieces LEGO is mainly into nowadays.
