By in Netherlands,

That's a fine looking Backhoe Loader, but... are we back to (almost?) all stickers in CITY?

P.S. I also like the Drive-Through Car Wash with the obviously deliberately added fun factor of "Drive your convertible through our car wash and receive a bonus shower for free!" The world needs some more fun!

The city construction dynasty grows ever larger. New rocks are fantastic, but curious that they’re finding gems inside? Construction vs mining I guess

By in Spain,

I’m happy to see city-related things under City again.

Buying multiple of that mountain bike van because just like in real life, the housing crisis has hit Lego City. Gonna make a lot of little camper houses out of them lol.

Can you link to some you've made? Sounds cool!

By in Belgium,

Construction sub-theme has been killing it since 60409 Mobile Construction Crane!

Ugh. Sadly the Pasenger Jet was what I was anticipating and it's juniorized :(

NPU to make a bicycle pump and love the new rocks

By in United States,

I have been waiting so long for a good backhoe in City. The small 2023 version with a jackhammer at the back wasn't what I was waiting for. This is.

Glad to see a new carwash that's bigger than the last version. The 2023 version was more of a facade than anything else.

Surprisingly solid value on a $30 4+ passenger jet. The combined fuselage base + wing part looks very useful for other airplane builds.

The mountain bike van is the weakest of the new sets for me, but the value is solid and the sliding door is intriguing.

60401 rolled so 60409 could crane.

Too bad the citizens don't have anywhere to eat, sleep, live, visit, shop, sit, relax, etc. LEGO even managed to turn that new pizzeria set (from the other City post) into a building-less vehicle-centric set. The only bed in a City set is in an RV. The only thing the construction vehicles are building are roads and parking lots. I'm exaggerating, there's the airport and the new tram has a tiny little beach, there's the car wash.. But you get what I mean. Hopefully.

The quality of the City sets has been very high recently, I particularly love the construction vehicles, but it kinda feels like the theme should be renamed from City to Vehicles.

Okay, the convertible in the carwash is funny.

The housing crisis has just hit in Lego City, start the little camper houses!

Was too good to last. Printing budget and storage capacity must have been prioritiesed for Editions. :(
And now we have not just Mateo, but more yellow skinned Vitiligo representation. Makes me wonder if we'll see more shades of yellow heads in the future because regular yellow is not inclusive enough.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the backhoe, other than the front tires that are too large for the typical real-life version (the other functionalities and surprisingly reasonable price make up for it).

The Juniorized plane turned out better than I expected (almost reminiscent of the old 4-wide planes of the 80s and 90s)

I was initially wondering why another car wash so soon, but the overall size and moving brushes technique are far superior to 60362

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really dislike that all bikes are now using the two piece frame+handlebar Friends design for City as well. These MTB's look particulary unrealistic. What was so wrong with the existing mold? What's next? Only Friends animals with eyeliner and holes in the heads?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Two pointless observations from the passenger jet: first retail yellow Minifig with vitiligo outside Mateo and the phone print he's holding is consistently upside down (implying it somehow got rotated 180* during production)

Something to always keep in mind: 2-3 years may not be *that* long for adults, but for children that's about a third to a half of their time as the target demographic and at that age can feel like an eternity. So for most kids they won't really be bothered by repeat concepts.

I only have a few of 6694 and 6590 and 6351 at the moment, though, I did make a "tiny" house MOC out of a spares bin a while back. Not sure I have any photos at the moment though.

Personally I prefer this version. Having the handlebars separate gives a nice contrasting color between the grippable handles and the solid colored body of the bike. Plus the more versatile connection point can be more interesting if you want to use the piece creatively in MOCs.

I was intrigued to see a new car wash in city, I remember getting one ages ago in my youth, in a carpark for Christmas. Which is better than this one, I think.

Actually looks like a JCB 4CX Backhoe Loader, which has the same tires front and back. This allows for better traction and load distribution in rough terrain.

This. This is what a City backhoe should look like. Day one purchase for me!

By in United States,

It's good to see the Lego designers having fun. Between the pizza delivery car pizza launcher and the convertible in the car wash, I'm wondering if there are any other jokes hiding in plain sight.

Weird that City sets are getting better Technic parts than actual Technic sets.

By in Hungary,

I really like the classic parrot design emblem on the vertical stabilizer of the plane.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I picked up the last Car Wash - although I hadn’t built it yet because I was considering changing the sign - but honestly this one looks so good I might upgrade. And still consider changing the sign. I like the cars it comes with too.

The construction subtheme has just been going from strength to strength lately and it’s taking a lot to wrestle my inner five year old into submission instead of buying all of them. They look really fun! Also I have no particularly need or space for adding a large construction site to my City things. But they look really fun! And I like the new elephant logo a whole lot.

The plane looks like a very respectable and affordable 4+ option, and a decent fit for the current City Airport. Not sure I love the colourway of the Mountain Bike Van but the design is very nice and I liked the outdoorsy City stuff in general. Some very nice sets all around.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the mountain bike van. Reminds me of old school Lego vans like 6351 and 1791

Gravatar

These look quite interesting and the prices are very reasonable.

I love the backhoe loader.

I noticed the gems and love 'em! A red one with the backhoe and I believe a purple one with 60494

The City construction sets look fantastic!

I'm not usually a City Construction person, but that Backhoe Loader is NICE.

I didn't even notice that the car was a convertible; the driver's alt face is great. Dude, that's on you, both literally and figuratively.

Weird that the last two official uses (we don’t count BDP) were 77050 and…30658.

Love new rock pieces. Hope they will stay

By in United States,

These are great!
I struggle to wrap my brain around parts/pricing for sets all the time, such as 60492 Passenger Jet including 4 minifigures, a separate vehicle, the complete small jet, and all in 118 parts for £24.99/$29.99/€29.99.
Is this plane actually a TIME MACHINE?

I don't mind the clip holding the handlebars, but they changed the whole geometry of the MTB frame and it does indeed look strange. They couldn't have a normal stem that holds the handlebars forward of the steering pin, probably because it would be too weak. So instead the whole frame is now longer. The wheelbase apparently had to stay the same, so now the forks are at a really strange angle, almost as if the bike had an accident and the wheel was pushed in.
Compare the set images of 42624 and 60306 and you'll see what I mean.

I think someone at LEGO, much to the chagrin of the exec, tries to make a few sets that have good value for their cost. Though I would consider that being more that mountain bike adventure van set than any of the others, which again appear over priced by 5-10 dollars. That plane.. Oof, I mean while well priced, looks extremely basic in terms of the design. But if looking at value, its got that for the play ability of it.

I don't think we'll see a full return of just stickers, as January had a lot of new prints, however I could see them going the sticker route for decorated elements they don't plan to reuse outside of one set. The January 2026 wave had a great mix of stickers and prints, with only a few larger sets having stickered elements (60502, 60504, and 60499).

The 4+ sets are always prints (as were the Juniors sets before them, if memory serves), and 5+ sets seem to have recently done the same. Which makes sense, as those sets are aimed at kids that don't necessarily have the fine motor control to keep stickers from looking messy once applied.

The distance from the "seat" to the handlebars is partially dictated by minifig geometry. If the handlebars are spaced too far forward, the minifig can't hold them. I'm not sure they couldn't do a forward-mounted clip, but I doubt they could have done a forward-mounted clip that faces up, as the lower jaw would be very long and subject to a lot of stress when the bar is inserted. Same thing is probably true for a forward-facing clip, regarding the upper jaw. However, I don't see why they couldn't have just angled the clip diagonally forward and up. Jaw length could have been made the same, and stress shouldn't have been a problem.
