I got this catalogue on Monday, so yeah.

They could've picked a better picture, though. I mean, that's it -- the engine and the new brown ballast truck. You can see a hint of the van in the background, but the perspective is so out-of-scale it looks like the van is shorter than a minifig! Edit -- or else, the train runs through the land of the giant minifigs ^_^.

But yeah, at least we know that it's legit, now.

@ Huw - looking at the front and rear bogies they appear to be similar design to that of the current power cars on the freight and passenger cars, also you can see the semi circular shape of the IR reciever on the top rear of the loco. More details of this would good however. What wagons does it come with and how much track, what is the pricing point etc...

Looks 'OK' but until better pictures come out, it doesn't seem that enticing. Perhaps we've just been spoilt with the Emerald Night/Maersk, but I think its lacking in the design department.

But expect the price of Santa Fe windscreens to depreciate...

I do agree with miniroll32. I'm definitely a train-fan, and it doesn't really excite me (Emerald Night and Maersk were must-have, you know). But I don't really like the carriages, and I think the engine is a bit boring. I counted today, the engine is 32 studs long (on a 28 stud baseplate, with two extra studs on either side). I think, when the engine is enormous (like BNSF or Maersk), I kind of hope for a bit more visual *oomph*, for want of a better term.

It's not bad, though. But still no doors. Seriously, Lego, that's been bothering me for years now.

Does the minifigure with the jackhammer have a mask over his mouth? How cool would that be! :)

Looks like a cool set. Since it's motorized it'll probably be anywhere from $49.99 to $69.99. If anyone has the final price it'd be great to know. The length of the train was pretty good, so I may buy this, but only if I can find a good deal on it and it comes with tracks.

^ I should think it'll be a lot more than that. Have you seen all the things it comes with on the link I posted above? Just to note that the current Passenger Train (7938) is $129.99. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more than that due to it having more coaches and a small conveyor belt.

Oh, wow I didn't see those pics you posted LCG. Ha, it'd be a miracle if it were near that price, maybe it'll be $119.99 to $149.99... I'm no Train master so I'm very bad at guessing prices for these kinds of sets. I'll have to forget about buying this set.

This guy better be motorized, or be priced accordingly. I skipped on the Emerald Night solely because of the lack of integrated PF and additional carriages, but we have the rest. Nothing on this stands out and yells "BUY ME", other than simply being LEGO and Train. After living with the 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe for a while, even my kids agree that's the most fun. The details are incredible. I hope we're not regressing here, but it seems a bit premature to produce another cargo train so fast. A realistic passenger train set would be more welcome here...

Well it is bizarre it is coming out so close to the other one being out.. My guess is that the price will be between the passenger train and the cargo train, so about 150 USD maybe? Maybe less track; less switches.....
I think the laughable part is that the Power functions was supposed to reduce the price of a train sets, but then they sit there and add more track and stuff... While that is ok for me, they should not then turn around and act surprised when people do not pay for a 180 USD cargo train

The original photos showed a track maintenance vehicle and hopper loader - looks as if they have been dropped, or will the vehicle be a separate set?

Looking at the pics posted @LegoCoastGuard, it looks like we might be able to combine a few aspects of the new Lego City harbour (4645) with this new cargo train. Car 3 could be loaded with grain coming via ship into the harbour. Could be kind of cool to combine the harbour with the train tracks... I bet it will be pretty pricey though!

This train is actually motorized because if you go on youtube and type in Lego 3677 it shows it moving. And the price is going to be $130.00! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Looks nice, but I'd have to get a final price to make a choice. (If it is less than the Passenger Train, maybe.) I'm going to get the Maersk anyway. (I've been planning to since it came out.)

@Thomson & Thompson, I agree with you, I payed $129.99 for The City Passenger Train, so if its less I`ll get it, if not I`ll be willing to pay an extra $20.00 or so for it, because to me its not worth that much to me, I mean all the City Passenger and cargo Trains have had almost the same design, but If I do get this I would like to get the Harbour with it, I think they`re a great match. I like the design of this one, since I dont have a Cargo Train yet, but I wish Lego would include some straight tracks, I mean when I bought the Passenger Train it came in a complete circle, with those flexi tracks which are not that great at all, so I hope there is. Anybody got a release date? I will be looking forward to getting this.

To me, this smacks of Cargo Train 4512 (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=4512-1) only in PF instead of 9v. Since I've yet to switch from the 9v to PF, I can't see picking this one up.

It'll take something better than this to shake me out of my metal-tracked rut! Gaunlet thrown Lego!

As a Lego train collector this is a must have, however, need to have more detail on the engine....looks plain to me. Hope it comes with PF. I love the EN and Maersk trains.

I really like this. I was turned off by the huge price of the one from last year, even more so because I had received the 2006 version the year before. If this is a smaller set, preferably being $100 or less, I'll definitely buy it.

It's quite a different catalog than others I have received in the past.
The ink smells toxic and the images are all darker than usual.
Doesn't really make for clandestine reading under the covers at night :)

This to me seems... lazy. The tipper truck is a novel little feature, but they don't seem to have put much thought into the design of the engine itself; it's just a big, red, brick. Besides, we already have two other transporters in the range, both of which are much nicer than this one. I was hoping the next train they released would be something like a bullet train or one of the 1950's express locos like the Mallard

As I already have two trains of my own, I dont really feel the need to pick this one up. Besides in my opinon it's not the best designed locomotive really.

Just getting into trains (got the passenger train last weekend for Father's Day) I am very excited about this one. On EuroBricks, they said the train battery box is red!

Its strange that the UK catalogue picture is so poor and doesn't show the track maintenance vehicle and hopper loader while the Dutch Shop website does.

Judging by the overseas price, and the what appears in the set.. I am guessing this is 150-180 USD... there are no switches so that should make a it a bit cheaper.

Balkris -- a Japanese style bullet train, or a Mallard-style steam engine, would be fantastic! I'm not sure how they'd do that with the pieces available, though. The Mallard-style has that curved front, I think that'd be a tricky build.

^So that means that the US price is $149.99, and the Canadian price is $199.99, I think. If that is true, I don't think I will be getting this.

Finally released a SET line Train (with motor) in 2011. Very nice, and wagons are cool, but a few tracks for this type SET. Perhaps a buy to increase my railroad, but I would not buy it if it were the first.

@Nightshroud99: I agree this will be my first train set, and I think it'll go well with the station.

Does any one know the price for 3677? I know it is comeing out in agaust. Is there a passanger train to go with it?Are there any other other sets to go with it?
