LEGO Shrek Collectable Minifigures revealed!

For those not in the know, the Shrek head looks so large is because it was designed to go with a unique torso element similar to the current Hagrid or Eggman. Not sure why it wasn't used here.

I actually missed that. A few days ago, someone showed me a spoiler pic that was missing quite a bit of this lineup, and it only showed one of the mice. And again, here the individual shots for three of the minifigs that include them don't show them. Only the three group shots include the full set. Ironically, those two mice appear to be the only accessories that aren't shown in the individual shots.

But mostly, I'm buying a bunch of Gingy.

Luckily a strong series of good figures, though the heads of fiona and shrek are slightly odd.

Gingy's head should replace the sandwich-cookie head for all future gingerbread folk. Giving a famously one-layered cookie a sandwich head was the only problem with the Series 11 figure.

Scattering the Blind Mice across the series was a smart cost-effective move to accessorize characters who needed a little something and incentivize collecting the whole set, but it makes Dragon's lack of extras all the more apparent. Donkey feels misplaced with Fiona, anyhow.

Shrek's face is awful. Fiona looks odd without her crown. I can only hope she has a pinhole on her head to allow for one. Fiona not being her human form is also odd given that ogre Fiona will also be in the sets alongside the superior minifig Shrek.

Thelonious looks like a great spooky/castle figure (how I wish he didn't have the Farquaad belt!). I'm guessing his hood will just have a blank black head underneath since Thelonious's face is never shown--I do hope it's a hood and not a molded head, though.

The Big Bad Wolf looks much better than the LEGO-original design with the werewolf head. Puss having no sword is very strange.

The Fairy Godmother looks perfect.

I don't know why Farquaad isn't the paler Light Nougat tone. He never struck me as tan. Reminds me of the recent Cho Chang inaccuracy issue.

While most of these look great, I think the proportions on Shrek and Fiona's heads look terrible. And I don't mean just that they look too big for the bodies. I mean the actual proportions of the facial features don't resemble the characters the way they should. I know minifigs are not supposed to be one-to-one representations of things, but they usually do a better job depicting what they're supposed to depict. Shrek in particular looks terrible, I think mostly because he's never made an expression like that that I can recall; but also because the placement, size, and shape of his eyes just don't seem right.

Why does Fionas face look like Kim Kardashian. Am I the only one seeing this?

I can’t say I noticed any resemblance beyond “wears similar lipstick colours sometimes”.

The fact that the dragon is minifigure is ridiculous.

Literally just yesterday, I was buying the Shrek BrickHeadz at my local Lego store, and mentioned to the staff member serving me "now to wait for the minifigures to be in cheaper sets"

Not sure what to make of this series... Theres nothing particularly wrong with any of the figs, but somehow they feel kinda off too... like some of them have been really done to a budget rather than being a premium lego product.

I like the Executioner, and Merlin... the rest don't overly interest me. I know they're limited in scale of minifigs in what they can do, but Gingy is way too big in comparrison to the other characters.

Only Jaime Lannister with those fleurs-de-lys could be interesting for me.

I tend to agree with you.

I feel like Donkey should've been his own figure, and Dragon (given her size relative to the other characters) should've been a molded piece (like the Lego dragons of old) or a reasonably-sized brick-build (she can't be too out-of-scale, since her and Donkey still ... well, you know) that was sold separately.

Also, now I *can* see Kim Kardashian in Fiona's face, and I can't unsee it.

That'll be a break from hunting CMFs, then.

Welp I guess I will order the whole set, ironically the worst in my opinion is Shrek and Fiona

I think this is fantastic for shrek fans.

Some of those figures are so bad that they look like Shrek.

Were there leaks of that? Would make sense.

Are they doing sets to coincide with Shrek 5? Guess we could see some parts re-use there. Feels like the budget was blown on the molded heads as they feel a little light on accessories, Puss not having a sword seem a big oversight. Will probably grab the Executioner for the hood and fat-batman body.

As hideous as the source material.

I never got into Shrek, so this is one lineup I'm comfortable skipping. My wallet rests slightly easier :)

It was the same with the Simpsons especially Homer and Comic Book Guy looking way too skinny in minifig form

I'll pick up a few of these. Maybe I don't recall from past CMF's, but do the promotional images always show the characters in impossible poses? It just looks so very weird to me with them leaning back or the legs spread out.

Could’ve slapped any head and hair combo on and I’d have still bought 4+ for a new faction lol. Far and away the most interesting of the series for a non-Shrek fan, and I’ll get one of Merlin and and an executioner for his dual-molded arms alone.

Hmmmm....this is way more underwhelming than I expected. Most of these are far more miss than hits. Apart from Fairy Godmother (played by the fantastic Jennifer Saunders of course) and Prince Lannister Charming, the rest are an easy pass. Merlin looks interesting enough to miss with my Harry Potter sets (plus you can never have too many witches and wizards in LEGO) and I’ve been meaning to get a gingerbread man for a long time anyway, just never got round to getting 5005156 or 71002-6 so even Gingy would be an easy itch to scratch. And yeah I definitely agree with Donkey should’ve been it’s own minifig.

There you go. They could have just made 25% of this wave be one Little Pig paired with one Blind Mouse and called it good.

I guess it's to be expected with a cast made up of fairytale stock characters, but it's sort of interesting how many of these already have direct, unlicensed counterparts. And of the ones that don't, I've got no idea who Thelonious is.

The first Shrek is a barely-veiled mockery of Disney films, so its storybook characters are meant to basically be read as the same entitites wherever Disney also has a notable version--as such, Pinocchio is a parody of the Disney character, Ariel is mocked in a side gag in the sequel, Farquaad's land satirizes the Disney parks, the Fairy Godmother is a villain and Charming is no better, etc. Thelonious isn't based on any fairy-tale or Disney stock character and is more of a generic castle-fantasy executioner for Farquaad.

Do you mean the figure we got, released solo with accessories (a parfait or waffle?), or a humanoid minifigure like Dragon? Donkey would suit that style far worse than Dragon. Well i was thinking either it's own figure (as the criteria to what constitutes a minifig can now vary a lot, i learnt that with 71413-4 and 30676) or like 30601

They all look so great.

Well executed Shrek CMF could be banger for kids and adults but IMHO it fails for adults...

Weird heads of ogres, weird choice with dragon, cost cutting with mice, Prince charming could have armor, Merlin or Fairy could have spellbook etc.

I guess for people which are not daily lego fans Puss will be cool.
For me only Farquaad and Executioner stands out.

I'll pick up a complete set like I always do. But I'm thankful I don't need to army build any. I might pick up a few Charmings, but thankfully don't really need to do any hunting this time around.

Yikes! Shrek looks horrible, Dragon shouldn't be here, the Three Blind Mice are oversized, and Gingy, Puss, and Pinciochio would work far better (and consistently) as tinier molds like Donkey.

They're not bad, but they're not as good as I was hoping they would be.

Some really odd choices here. Dragon as a figure, for one. I also don't understand why Gingy is here as a full-sized figure, when the leaked image of Shrek's home shows him as a small "trophy" character (which makes much more sense, IMO).

The character I was most looking forward to is Puss In Boots, and I'm disappointed that--not only is he missing his cape and sword--the character's face is stuck in the "cute eyes" face that he only uses occasionally in the series. But at least they gave him short legs with actual printing (as opposed to the duel molded full-sized legs in the pre-existing set).

I'll probably pick up Shrek, Fiona, and Puss--but that's it for me.

There are always a couple of duds in every series. Too bad the worst ones this time are the titular ones.

These all look perfect except Shrek and Fiona's heads. I'll still get them, but whoever designed the original Buzz Lightyear and Woody molds should have done these, that those were excellent.

I did, but I'd forgotten. Several years ago (2005), I picked up Shrek Superslam for Nintendo DS, and Thelonius is actually a playable character in that one version of the game.

There's also the Build-a-Minifig woman, plus the family from the Winter Village Gingerbread House. And before the CMF version had even been announced, I got some brown ones from Crazy Bricks through a Kickstarter, and I think may have even had four of the Gingerdead Men on order through a second one (since then, he's also done a Breadpool, SymbiOatmeal, and C-3PcOokie version that I'm aware of).

I don't know that this would even be possible. The way I've heard it, "Head, Torso, Legs". To qualify as a minifig, it has to have three of those, and I'm not even sure if it's restricted to standard 5-plate legs and standard torso with standard arms and hands. But CMF has "Minifigure" right in the name on the packaging, so Donkey qualifies as 0.0% of a minifig. Dragon, at least, qualifies on the torso and legs, but otherwise the only obvious deviation I can point to is the F1 wave (except, while that wave took one of the three CMF slots for the year, it was never branded with the CMF logo on the packaging).

But then what you can do is get two of the CMF, and one of the other version, and take the legs from the second CMF and use them to improve the retail version And then just keep the first CMF as it is out of the box.

What Bricklink catalogs as a minifig, and what TLG markets as a minifig, are wildly different things. The CMF line is produced by the latter, and thus has to abide by the official LEGO definition.
