Mixels series 4 building competition

Posted by ,

Mixels series four sets are available in most markets now so it's time to launch our traditional Mixels building competition!

To enter, simply build a Mixels monster, from two or three different Mixels from one of the series four tribes and post your entry to the Brickset competition pool on Flickr.

Entries will be judged primarily on the appearance of the monster -- how cool, scary, weird, whacky, inventive, imaginative it is -- but we will also be on the look-out for interesting building techniques and use of parts. Feel free to build a spaceship or house but it should be monstrous: just add an eye or two :-)

Entries made from sets from different tribes won't be accepted because, from an aesthetic point of view, they are at a disadvantage.

This time, we will accept just one entry per person. This is to improve the standard of entries and make judging easier. Post your entry, a maximum of two images of your model, to the Flickr pool by Sunday 29 March 2015. Please make sure that the images are public and that sharing has been enabled so they can be used to illustrate future news articles without the need to for me to faff about.

If you're a new flickr user you may have trouble adding pictures to the pool: I think you need to have a certain number of images in your pool before you can do so.

Given that aesthetics is the main criteria, the quality of your photographs will have a part to play. We don't expect everyone to have expensive cameras and fancy lighting setups but bear in mind that models that are well lit and photographed on a clean uncluttered background are more likely to catch the judges' eyes.

I hope you like my Orbiton Rocket Dog although I'm certain you can make something much better!

Oh, I guess you want to know about prizes... actually I don't have anything specific in mind at the moment but I'll try and get hold of some cool stuff. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes which will each comprise a cool LEGO set or two and a Brickset minifig.

Terms and conditions:

  • Prizes to be advised.
  • To be considered, entries must be photographed and uploaded to the Flickr Group set up for this competition, be set to public, and have sharing enabled. Therefore entrants will need a Flickr (Yahoo) account to enter.
  • ONE ENTRY PER PERSON and only two images of your entry are permitted.
  • Entries must state which sets have been used and the model must use only the parts in the sets chosen.
  • The competition begins on Friday 13th February and will close at the end of Sunday 29th March 2015. Entries received after this date will not be considered.
  • Winners will be announced the week after the competition ends.
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

By in Denmark,

What is the difference between "from two or three (different) Mixels" and "from two or three different Mixels"?

By in United States,

I'm probably not going to enter, but any idea who the judges are going to be?

By in Australia,

No sign of them in Australia.. would love to enter, but as with the last comps, they seem to arrive on our shelves a day or so before your comp ends! :(

one entry per tribe per person or only one entry and before using the majority of the parts was a factor is that not anymore? and this is always the most fun contest on the interwebs so thanks for putting it on again

By in United Kingdom,

I built something amazing and only realised afterwards that i used lots of parts from series 3 hehe!

Also, Are mini builds allowed or do you want a full on mixel sized entry?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Has anyone seen the new mixels in Australia yet?

By in United Kingdom,

Can I post more than one entry via my Flickr account on behalf of my children, please?
I can identify the builder for each separate entry.
This will save me having to create Flickr accounts for the little people at home!
Many thanks.

By in United States,

Not to accuse anyone, but claiming builds are your children's seems to be a good excuse to have multiple entries. And as Nibbos pointed out, what's stopping anyone from creating multiple throwaway accounts on Flickr to receive multiple entries? Don't see what's stopping anyone or how the judges would know.

By in United Kingdom,

It really was a genuine request so that my children really could take part. It just seemed a little unfair to only allow adults to take part in building competitions simply because my 7-year old wouldn't know how to create a Flickr account for himself.
Or have I entirely missed the point of the whole website and it's an 'adults only/AFOL' community here?
If I had really wanted to post multiple entries for myself I wouldn't have asked the question in the first place and just gone ahead and made myself multiple Flickr accounts just as mrhamilt228 pointed out.
However, I do understand the need for some rules.
How about one entry per tribe per person, as asked by maak?
I've already bought the Mixels for the children (a different set for each one, unsurprisingly) so they could have a go at their own creation and enter legitimately...
Just some thoughts.
Thanks for reading this far.

By in United Kingdom,

That seems a reasonable request and I am happy for you to do that.

By in United States,

Whoops, I missed the part where it's one entry per person. Is that one model per tribe, three total entries per person? Or only one entry, period?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One entry per person.

By in United States,

Any word on the prizes?

Gravatar
By in United States,

+1 for one entry per tribe. I'm too OCD to do one.
:D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just to clarify was it just agreed above that you can do one entry per tribe so the kids can have a go too? And does that mean people without kids can post 1 per tribe?

By in Australia,

Does "the model must use only the parts in the sets chosen" mean only the parts that comprise the sets chosen, or does it include the spare bits that come with the set? Apologies if this has been answered previously. Wish I'd known about the competition for Season 3. My Season 3 moc monsters rocked :3

By in United States,

Are stands okay? I used a clear piece that is pretty clearly (ehh pun) not intended to be part of the model.

By in United States,

@Xybyt- If you're still wondering, you can use the spares. :P
