We have been sent a picture of set 4999 which appears to be a limited release set in conjunction with Vestas, manufacturers of wind turbines. Does anyone have any further information?

By in New Zealand,

Just letting you know that LEGO has asked eurobricks to take there pics of it down.
So it must be pretty new.=0

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't know much more other than it is a real research company that is looking into wind power and has sponsored some lego contests in the past.
All I really know is that I really want this set!!!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Its an upcoming large special set, 4999 Vestas Windmill.
The motorized model towers over two feet and includes a nice setup of the base with minifigs and a small van.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I WANT IT!!!!!!!!
is there a tentative release date??

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am going to buy this set if thy have it at the legoland discovery park opening in Chicago on the 31 July, 2008.

Also I will buy the ultra drill walker too (if they have it)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I so want it !! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

interesting, three minifigs, a truck, a house?I wonder how lego got a contract for this. I predict it might be 60 usd because of the power functions.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

i predict that you cant judge how much it will be yet,all i can say is it will be expensive but fun to have

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can see this set being structually flawed. If the turbine is 2 foot tall and top heavy with the sails, motor, etc, then the base would need o beweighted as it will topple over. Thats if the colomn does not break first. But it does look good.

By in New Zealand,

Power functions... Does that mean that there is a power function motor that powers the thing or something that collects energy like a real turbine? I would like the latter, because anything else would defeat the purpose of a wind turbine with power function components. I have never heard of Vestas before but it is nice to have a promo set released this century. I'm not so sure how it is a promotional set, however, because I don't think it would get more people to invest in Vestas just because they have their own lego set. The batteries not included are kind of ironic because it is meant to represent a power company and has no electricity to offer in the set. I don't think I will be buying this. I have the creator Ferris Wheel set and it seems to have much the same properties; little decorations and repetitive spinning which gets a little boring after a while. Unfortunately I also found the building of it quite boring building eight different sections, spokes and baskets. This should be better with only three spokes, though.

jon11380:

Looks like the windmill is build on a brick-built hillock - maybe that's enough counterweight?

I'm guessing the price will be much more than what people are suggesting here. Maybe 100+ $/€ (although maybe not much past the 100 mark). There are a lot of bricks in it as well as the power functions. Wonder what availability will be like?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Jon11380. wouldn't the battery be at the bottom under the little hill that it's on, or it could be in that little box at the back of the spinning bit??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe, but the column structure would still have to be very well made to stop it from collapsing.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The battery is hidden under the hill, you can find more pics (of the back of the box) on other sites.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This would be a great addition to my train layout when i take it to train shows because it would add another moving part not just the trains going round and round.

I wounder if you stick it outside on a windy day it would turn by it self.

You could also connect up a solar panel to it so you don't have to use batteries.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Which sites are there other pictures. This sets pictures are being removed as fast as it has appeared. I suppose we will have to wait until nearer its offical release date. However are there any pics of the new train series appearing yet? just a thought.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I bet that if you were to detach the motor from the turbine blades, it would spin on a windy day (like Wisconsin weather by me right now) i wonder if the top spins(not the blades but the part that says vestas)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want it!!! It looks AWESOME!! Too bad that it is exclusive for the company!:(

Gravatar
By in United States,

i have e-mailed lego and i am awaiting reply

Gravatar
By in Saudi Arabia,

If that's the case who or who you know that works at Vestas? I'm willing to pay good money for it! ; )

Gravatar
By in United States,

someone check a lego store and see if it is for sale there.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I think there are two lamps on the front of the house. Maybe the new Power-functions-lamps from the new technic-set 8297 ? Or not ? Thats not really visible.

Gravatar

I am already in contact with an employee of Vestas.
Of course, I'll post any news here!

Stay tuned!

By in Australia,

Honestly I think this is just perfect and couldn't be any more exciting but remember it is just a leak and until LEGO say yes no or otherwise it is a speculation. Still a point well made, would Lego make such a large electric set just to give away as a promo only? Personally I think no. I think vestas has funded this after the show stated on their web site (use the search function) to get kids interested. I believe they will use it as a promotional item, but it will also be available on S&H. I have no idea what it costs to produce a model but I'm sure its not cheap to set up production machines packaging. Plus look at previous promotional items, any this big? in very limited quantities? I'm sure we will all have our chance. I am going to start saving now :)

because you live in VANCOUVER ISLAND an I live in RICHMOND that is FAR FAR away!

the good thing is i go to richmond every year for at least a week so im there for two weeks a year pretty much

i think this would make a great fan for summer days but can you make it so the blades spin by air power i.e. take out the motor

Gravatar
By in Norway,

tips to get it??? i am from norway oslo

Gravatar
By in United States,

right now it is so windy out (50 mph) i bet if it was outside with or without a motor it would spin

p.s. shame shame ingerliseh
(double post)

Gravatar
By in United States,

not any more

how many minifigures come with it?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

You have to pull this YELLOW technic piece to make the turbine move! and the lamps LIGHT up that is SO COOL

Gravatar
By in United States,

Saw it!! SWEET!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Perhaps I can tell you some more.

The Battery Box is hidden under the hill.
Almost 100% sure the motor is also. There will be an axle running through the pole, driving the mill. The dynamo on top is build in detail.

According to the Vestas costumer service, the product is a special limited edition that was specially build for Vestas and is not for commercial sale.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe if we make enough noise about it they will make it available too the public. I like everyone want it!!!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

TWO people own it it's not like you go and buy a turbine ane it comes with this LEGO set.:(

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Yes, 2 people doght it!

May be they can say where they boudht it?!

P.S. Very beautifel and iteresting set! I want it too.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

lego wouldnt be stupid enough to not release this set ,they just want more people to get exited so when it first comes out they buy it thinking it will be gone soon

Gravatar
By in United States,

how do you make that article english?

Gravatar
By in Saudi Arabia,

that leaves me with only two strategies to get my hands on this set (1) i'll apply to be an office boy in vestas (2) try to get every employee of vestas to buy up two sets and get them to sell them to us on bricklink.

Gravatar
By in United States,

thanks drubs

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The employees of Vestas didn't know anything about this set.
It's still a surprise for most of them.
I'll have someone asking the headquarters in Denmark somewhere this week.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone have any more information? I will probably be going to Legoland discovery center in Chicago on the 4th. maybe they will sell it there. (i would buy it)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Accourding to the headquarters it's a special relation gift for special costumers from Vestas. It's not known if it's coming available for Vestas employees.

Accourding to a post on 1000steine.com it will come available to the public, allthough without the Vestas stickering.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Then we can print some vestas stickers out!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone else see the irony of using something that requires electricity to mimic something that generates electricity?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Guess what, i found it for 10 euros on ebay in germany!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

On many lego forums this set is creating quite the stir people want lego to release it to the general public there is a sure fire way to achieve this and it is quite simple (yet hard for most lego fans to come to terms with) let lego know your disappointment via email but also let them know the community will not support them if they turn their backs on the avid fans. let their products pile up on store shelves kids alone do not have the spending power of collectors. cut back on lego purchases through retail outlets and Shop @home or dare I say it stop buying lego all together until they start listening to those who keep their company going. this will not take long As product backs up in warehoses retailers will order less therefore cutting into lego's bottom line as a company that has gone through some hard times they will not want to face that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike!

Why Strike???

anyway, i am already going to legoland discovery center in Illinois on Monday. i will send word of any lego windmills

Gravatar
By in Canada,
