LEGO The Big Bang Theory Preview

Posted by ,

Within the last half hour, the first details of the LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory set have been revealed on the LEGO official Facebook page with images of five of the minifigures. We have it on good authority that the set will contain all seven main cast members and be priced at £49.99 or $59.99, with the release date rumoured to be in August.

I have not watched very much of the show but am somewhat familiar with it and these minifigures look to be very accurate to their on-screen counterparts.

According to the Facebook page the other minifigures and full set will be revealed tomorrow, so stay tuned for updates!

The rest of the images are after the break:

Howard Wolowitz:

Penny:

Raj Koothrappali:

Leonard Hofstadter:

Sheldon Cooper:

By in United States,

These look like a lot of fun. I had not watched the show in awhile, but was in a hotel last week and watched a bunch of episodes. I would imagine that the set will be a popular one. The show kind of blends the boundaries between science, space, superheroes and city, and the minifigs could blend right in to any of those settings/themes.

By in Netherlands,

These figures look amazing! Can't wait to see the rest.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can't wait to see Amy and Bernadette! They really need to be included. Also, this appears to be "Classic Penny" since she has short hair now.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They seem pretty much spot on. Good use of the new two tone arms on Sheldon as well. Suddenly I'm rather more excited about this than I was!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dumb question, but what is Leonard holding? Is it maybe supposed to be an action figure?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it Spock? ^

I'm definitely getting this. Might even get two.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice minifigures. The new torsos and some of the recoloured particularly catch my eye. Hopefully the set lives up to the minifig standards.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

With so many sets coming out this summer that are on my shopping list, it's actually refreshing to see something I'm not bothered about picking up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@natro220 It's a Green Lantern power battery.

I had forgotten that this set was even being made, but maybe I just blocked it out since I don't watch the show. Happy for fans to get it though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder when they will show the Doctor Who set. That's the one I am the most excited for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice torsos. I'm particularly interested to see if they have printed 1x1 bricks for Chinese takeout.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have no interest in The Big Bang Theory set as I've never seen the show, but I really like some of the torso prints. Maybe I'll get a few of those and switch out the hands to make a few new people to populate my City & Creator sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So I'd expect it to be around $60 USD then I think.

A little pricier than I was hoping for, but need to see the rest of the set to get a good look at it. I'd like to purchase one, but I have a bad feeling that Lego won't be able to keep up with demand and it'll end up being another Minecraft debacle.

Of course Doctor Who will be an even worse affair in that department.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sheldon should have been portrayed wearing his LEGO classic space T-shirt. I suppose you can MOC it for yourself, but it would have been cool if the minifig had come that way.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since they went the classic Penny hairdo, they should have gone with the Cheesecake Factory waitress outfit. As it is, she looks like the most average female minifig out there. If she were removed from the set, you wouldn't know it was supposed to be her.

Maybe her accessory can be a laundry basket.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Leonard needs another style of hair!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally something I can pass on!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Is that girl really Penny? She looks more like Bernadette.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally some news! I thought they forgot obout it.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Nice, but what about Dr Who?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but if the set looks good I'll probably pick it up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@mooslug - It's Sheldon who's holding the power battery. I too have no idea what Leonard's blue microfigure is supposed to be.

Penny is a little generic, as others have mentioned, though I'd imagine that Bernadette and Amy Farrah Fowler will be a little more distinctive. They definitely did a good job with the guys. And I'm sure the living room set will be full of neat details.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm really excited about this set. I've been waiting so long for any update on this set since they approved it last year. The Lego facebook page is so full of angry comments about the show - why don't people like this show? Oh, well. Haters gonna hate, I guess.

Gravatar
By in United States,

gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme!

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Why don't people like this show?" I saw it put best somewhere. "It's like blackface for nerds." This nails it for me. I can't stand it. Can't even stand commercials for it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Raj and Howard figures are so well done, but the Howard figure could pass for Clark Kent and the Leonard figure looks more like Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks. The clothes are nice, but the heads and hair are not good reproductions especially after scoring do well with the Raj and Howard figures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These look promising! I love that Raj has Cinnamon. Is Leonard holding a robot? Though that wouldn't make as much sense for the show.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sheldon and Raj are perfect. Penny is too generic and Leonard has the wrong hair. The sleepyhead in dark brown would be much better, though so far it's only been in the Olympic minifigs.

I love the idea though. It's exactly the sort of thing that could appear in the background of the show.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Now I can supply the canned laughter to autism jokes in the comfort of my own home!

@Missing Brick

eh, if it was something I enjoyed, I wouldn't care about a lack of play features, so I can't fault it for that. Only criticism I'd have is that the source material is so lacking, it's unfortunate that it was chosen for production.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

They all look spot on to me, even Penny with the pink jacket and pink lipstick.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Oh yeah, forgot to say - and this is extremely annoying - trying to check out the UK or US Lego page on Facebook is impossible because going to either simply redirects you to the Lego page for your own country, and in Belgium's case it's rarely updated.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

When building I plan to add some items that were never in the show, but certainly should have been. I'm talking about Marvel collectibles. Minifig scale Infinity Gauntlet, anyone?

Gravatar
By in United States,

shelon is holding the green lantern's lantern. leonard is holding an action figure. so glad for the news.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't want it out of any attachment to the show but I do like those minifigs and am sure the living room can be put to good use.

Gravatar
By in United States,

like how Sheldon has green lantern lantern.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@aleydita
I frequently want to look at both the US and the UK Lego websites. As you mention, trying to switch from one to the other can be a real pain. Instead, I open the US site in my day to day browser (Chrome), but the UK site I access via Internet Explorer. That way I never have to switch regions.

Edit - just realized you mentioned Facebook, not the Lego Store, so my comment may not be relevant,

By in Puerto Rico,

Like that Rocket, going to make one right away to display in a Museaum Emperor Palpatine is making.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

People often tell me that I should watch "The Big Bang Theory", but I completely understand what lippidp said above. Whenever I channel surf into an episode, I feel like I'm being both mocked and patronised, all in one go. I've never watched a full episode, and I doubt I will. I'm happy for the fans, but no, I don't really get why Lego picked this one.

All that aside, I'm totally getting one of those Green Lantern lanterns for my Lego JLA figures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never thought I'd see the day.......
If Legos have taught us anything, it's that true happiness is achieved through liscenesing.

@Joefish
Part of the agreement with CBS and Lego was that The Big Bang Theory would have more Legos in scenes, such as Sheldon's collectibles. These could appear as a MOC of his, which would be sweet. A model of his appartment that he builds, of sorts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am a fan of The Big Bang Theory and I think these minifigures SUCK! It's a bad sign when you have to give characters props for people to know who they are supposed to be.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Walowitz is the winner - he's the only one with leg-belt printing, and its of a miniature game-pad belt-buckle!

Gravatar
By in Japan,

@Aegis2000
I wouldn't be surprised if an upcoming episode features a scene where one character created themself and friends out of Lego only to be this set. It would probably go viral with the fans and send sales pretty high. They be stupid not to something like that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I enjoy the show, and am looking forward to this set! I will buy one for display and, depending on the pricing, another to insert (somehow) into an apartment building in our LEGO town.

Is the Wolowitz hairpiece new? Or was it in a LEGO Movie set or something? I think that looks great!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll DEFINITELY be purchasing this set, as my wife and I are big fans of the show. They knocked it out of the park with the minifigs so far!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Of all he properties Lego has acquired over the years this would be my least favorite. Besides the minifigs, what is there to build?

Gravatar
By in United States,

My girlfriend and I were really hoping Sheldon would get the longer legs like Woody and Jessie had in the Toy Story sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really liked the look of the proposed set as I'm into vignettes and usable things like all the decorations in the room. I really like the new torso prints we're getting. I'm kind of surprised it's priced as high as it is, gonna make it tough to pull the trigger on this, I've never seen the show so not appealing in that regard, strictly basing my decision of the set alone. Look forward to the full reveal!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now this I'm looking forward to buying!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I think for Howard, Ron Weasly's hair in dark brown would be better, and I cannot find a good haircut for Leonard, but otherwise they look great. And I'm waiting for a Bernadette and Amy minifig. For the latter, the CMF10 librarian is suitable though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Come to think of it, Howard's outfit is nowhere near tasteless enough!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I really don't get all the hate here, either towards the show or the figures. If you find yourself hating a show simply because it doesn't appeal to you personally, that's incredibly odd. I don't particularly like Star Wars but I don't feel the need to hate on the films or the related Lego sets. Saying "if they were gonna do a show they could at least have picked a GOOD one" is such an odd statement to make. You might not like it but several million people across the world do.

Regards the figures, Howard has the wry smile, the raised eyebrow, the sideburns, the red jacket, the belt and buckle. Penny has her trademark pink jacket, the pink lipstick and the long blonde hair (which would have been appropriate at the time of this set being put on Ideas). Raj has the bushy eyebrows and the shirt collar over the Noel Edmunds jumper. Leonard has his khaki denim jacket, his regularly-worn dark blue jeans, glasses, big trademark smile, bushy eyebrows and glasses, and Sheldon has the Bazinga t-shirt over a different colour top, with the pencil eyebrows and confuddled expression. I'm interested to know what people think they could have done differently to make any of them look any better.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice figs but £50? I Didn't support it anyway but was interested to see if it was a good fig and parts pack at a decent price. It isn't from what I have seen so far. Add £10 and buy the Ultra agents chopper instead I think.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think Howard's hair piece (I think that's his name right?) is a new one. Really can't see how this is so popular but I guess LEGO decided to choose a license that will sell well with AFOL's and TFOL's rather than KFOL's. Anyway, Doctor Who got through so I'm happy :) NOW GIVE US PICTURES LEGO!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

The torso prints look like stickers?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I hate being apparently the only one to notice this persistent error in minifigures, but Leonard's buttons are on the wrong side of his jacket.

Howard has the same hair as the barista from The LEGO Movie. I guess the designers preferred to reuse that piece instead of reversing it to match Howard.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

What time is this set being revealed? So excited:D

Gravatar
By in United States,

So I'm hoping they make Moe's Tavern from the Simpsons soon. Or a Cheers set. Don't tell me because they are bars they won't make them into LEGO sets. This nonsense garbage show TBBT is filled with terrible jokes about sex, drinking, and drugs followed by a horrible laugh track. So if they can make this into a set a bar isn't that far off base.

Gravatar
By in {Unknown country},

$60 you say? That's gonna be €70, too much for some set like that. I was really excited when I saw it first, but it shouldn't be more than €40.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

While I'm not a big fan of laugh tracks, TBBT is filmed in front of a live audience so the laughs you hear are from the actual people in the audience reacting to the jokes. ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

NIce idea, but hair is off for Leonard , Howard and Penny.. For Penny they should have just used the 'pop star' hair from the CMFs, Howard should have a bowl cut (LEGO could not make a new hair piece, which would also be awesome for future sets as well?). If anything Leonard should have hair more like the sleepy boy from the CMF line, or even from the kid in the last Santa set made by LEGO (850939).
Frustrating when it appears like the people designing the set never watched big bang theory. I get that some times you have to use stock parts, but again there are better hair choices from their CMFs for these figures and it is not like they are hard to get.
59.99 USD, and that better come with an awfully detailed living room vignette

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I was hoping for more.

It feels like a $60 mini-figure pack to me. Which I guess it essentially was from the start, but I really thought there would be more to the living room.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thx @bkuchman, I can see why the set is 59.99 USD now. Pretty detailed

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I stand by my original criticism now the full set has been revealed - not worth £50. Nice figs, a few interesting parts in different colours but essentially it's a fig pack and two walls. Rubbish.
