Our first look at the UCS Hoth Echo Base?

Posted by ,

The rumoured UCS Hoth Echo Base set is one of the most anticipated sets of the year and is apparently intended for release in October. LEGO Star Wars videos frequently feature upcoming sets and thanks to LegoSW we might have our first look at the upcoming Echo Base in a short animation recently posted on the LEGO Star Wars website.

This video features 75049 Snowspeeder and 75054 AT-AT from last year along with several unfamiliar models. These include the Echo Base North Entrance doors, the ion cannon, the command centre, the Wampa cave, the shield generator and some Rebel gun emplacements. It might be safe to presume that these new models will make up the UCS Hoth Echo Base set.

Personally I am not keen on the ion cannon at all and was hoping that the base itself would be a little more substantial, but otherwise I am quite impressed. What do you think of the set so far?

Cannot be an UCS : the UCS Millenium falcon cannot pass the door !

Impressive, most impressive ;-)

Cool! Interesting to get a UCS set that's not a single vehicle.

This is just a lame set.......When when when are we going to get a new Cloud City?!?!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If it has the same price tag as the Ewok Village, it will be hard for me to buy it because all of those little sets/parts combined are not worth 200€! I would buy it instantly for 130€ but 200€ seems way too much! It is just an update of 7666 with some other sets added. Only new thing is the ion canon and the shield generator....

A UCS of a location! Where's the cantina?

At the risk of opening up "that" debate again; was the Ewok Village a UCS set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hard to say...other than the weirdly-conceived ion cannon, it doesn't look like much. I'm a huge Echo Base fan, but unless this has some substantial structure behind the shield-doors, it won't even be very tempting. The old Galoob Action Fleet Hoth play set is an example of a real "base."

By in Netherlands,

If this is all it is, it looks very unimpressive. Certainly not of the same quality as the Ewok Village or the Sandcrawler (be they UCS or not).
I have to agree with @Clone: I've been collecting all the Hoth based sets that have been released so far, and this set doesn't really add a lot to those sets, except for the (rather underwhelming) ion cannon and the break-apart shield generator.

The most interesting new figure seems to be R3-A2 (the R2/R3 unit with a transparent dome). Rest of the figures are less spectacular. A couple of rebels, a new version of K-3PO (new printing), Leia. And would that Wampa cave be included, or is it just 8089?

By in Denmark,

I saw the clip some times and here's what I think:

New minifigures, cool. Echo base gate with a command room and stuff.
One small shield generator with a play function to bounce the generator into pieces, sick.
One ugly ion-cannon which shoots straight forward and has a new control panel sticker.
Rebel snow defense barriers with: 2 "Mark II medium repeating blaster cannons", 2 DF.9 turrets and 1 P-Tower (dish turret), 2 tauntauns? (Rebel and Han Solo)
2-4 snow troopers, 1 E-Web blaster turret for the Empire.

The wampa cave is also in a new play-like design, so I guess it would be in the package too.
It seems to me that the binocular guy is standing in some high watch tower, like we seen in the movie on Yavin 4.

Vehciles: 1 rebel personnel carrier, 2 rebel T-47 snow speeders (2 minifigure pilots), 1 new imperial speederbike? and 3 imperial walkers... jk.

Overall, it should be possible for all these small sets to combine into a medium sized "UCS" model.
Then they encourage you to buy not one - but multiple imperial walkers. And finally it is to be released side by side with the new Star Wars Battlefront, which is great.

... is that guy drinking hot water?

By in Sweden,

...or maybe it is only a random cartoon taking deliberate and large freedom in hinting at the fact that there may be a new (UCS) Hoth Echo Base, but otherwise has little relation with what will actually be there...

...not to spoil everybody's fun at guessing ;)

By in United States,

Eh... if this is what it's going to be, then I'll probably pass. I have 7666 and 7879 and those two seem to compose the vast majority of what's being hinted at with this set. The only things really new are the shield generator and the ion cannon, neither of which are terribly exciting in appearance. Take 7666, 7879, 7749, 8089, 75014, the two Hoth battle packs, and one of the AT-ATs from recent years, and you've already got yourself a nice Hoth layout just out of sets from the last 8 years.

By in Australia,

If the new set is truly going to be a 'UCS' then surely what we just saw can't be it. The main hanger door is more or less on the same scale as in #7666.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Over on the Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors eurobricks page, many users have pointed out that the snowspeeder in the video actually differs from the 75049 snowspeeder, so it could be a new one included in the set.

By in New Zealand,

Re-hash of 7666 with a few additional props. If this is UCS, they need to sub the 'Ultimate' in UCS to 'Uninspired' - it certainly isn't 'ultimate'.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ewok village not UCS and I am not sure if this will be labeled that either. Yes it may be large but not UCS. I'm a little disappointed. So many vehicles to do that have not been done.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't care about that silly UCS label! I either like the set or I don't.

Some of you people might have been collecting SW Lego since the first set came out, plenty of others have not. I only recently started to collect SW Lego. I have the AT-AT and Snowspeeder, and I am looking very much forward to this Echo Base set. But honestly, I really don't know what the actual set will look like, and if all those minifigs from this cartoon will be included too. I just hope the price of this set won't be too outrageous.

I love the cartoon, and I am not disappointed that Lego will release another Hoth set, on the contrary!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I was never planning on getting this set but I'm still a bit disappointed by these early images. I have the 2011 version which although wasn't accurate at least included parts of the base that hadn't been created before. The new Leia just looks weird and there appears to be some big stickers. Well...at least my wallet dodges another bullet!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

What the hell did I just watch? Was that meant to be serious or humorous?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Did the ion cannon have a baby? It's so tiny.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely not UCS, but given they stuffed missile launchers into the Ion Cannon, it's almost definite those are components of whatever new Hoth Playset we're getting.

And it's LEGO, it's always humorous! :D The reaction of the two walkers to their friend getting snowballed was hysterical. :)

By in Netherlands,

@Thebrickdocter: the female figure in the clip probably isn't Leia, but rather Toryn Farr (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Toryn_Farr), the female rebel in charge of aiming and firing the ion cannon.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't think that female minifig inside the base monitoring the Imperial forces on the computer screens is Leia, but another character from TESB. In my opinion there are always far too few female Lego minifigs, especially in the SW universe so it is nice to have another female minifig. Oooh, and I really like all those Hoth Rebel minifigs with their snow hats/caps and goggles.

Looking forward to a set with a Tauntaun and a Wampa creature, as well as more Imperial snowtroopers!

This will depend on the value for money when the set is formally revealed, I have never bought the other previous Echo Base sections so this may well be my first (if it includes an AT-AT it will be great.

By in United Kingdom,

I can't believe how many people decided they know exactly what a (hypothetical) set is going to be like based on a short, humorous cartoon. At least wait until official information then decide you don't like it (and, by inference, that LEGO hates you).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not going to watch the video because of bandwidth, but this had better be as well-constructed as Ewok Village, or I will be disappointed.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oe that would be nice maybe some White 48 x 48 Base plates to goe with it ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can't wait for the set but, totally agree that the ion cannon needs some work

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Looking at the official Lego page, this video is number 15 in a series of 2015 mini movies. All the others seem to be about the recent new sets, so it looks like this will be a new set also.
On a side note, mini movie 05 featuring the Skyhopper set also has a Bantha large figure. Maybe we got more original Star Wars sets to come.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If it is a sneak peek at a Hoth base I'm relieved - as has been pointed out plenty already it looks like an updated but possibly not vastly improved 7666. The ion cannon is entirely new, but just about every other element looks like a repeat, and the scale doesn't seem much different. The shield generator looks fun, but at that scale I somehow doubt it'll be part of the set - though as I type that I wonder if I'm likely totally wrong! :P
That's all got to be good for anyone who missed 7666, and I put in a lot of effort getting it second hand quite a while ago so I'd guess the vast majority of current SW collectors missed it. In fact, I can't think of much beyond an absolutely mammoth set (no pun intended!) that would improve my current Hoth collection. The past catalogue seems pretty comprehensive, so repeats aren't just needed - they're the only option!
And it's great news for me as I'm not buying so much Lego lately and this won't tempt me to change that!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmm, we'll just have to see how this set turns out, but I'm hoping for a new AT-ST, even though there wasn't one featured in the video. They were featured in the battle of Hoth ( briefly) and it has been too long since we got one in set form.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just purchased the set with the Wampa in it, an additional two weeks notice would have helped!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I can't wait. Other than the ion cannon, everything looks amazing. And I'd rather have a small ion cannon than no ion cannon.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why haven't I heard of this before?!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Thanks for the heads up alldarker and The Big Legoski. Good to see another new female Star Wars figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I find it hard to believe that's it. Even with the Wampa cave, it only looks to be a $130 set. There has to be more for LEGO to even think about pricing it as $250.

Great figs though, and I personally like the ion cannon, trenches, turrets, and shield generator.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

3 UCS in one year.....i hate you, Lego!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The Ewok Village set really is a complete location. A masterpeace.
If this video indeed shows us the new Echo Base UCS. Than the final model will need some tweaks.
To me it seems it will be something like a combination of the 7666 Hoth Rebel base, 7879 Hoth Echo Base and 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave, well plus the Ion Canon, which I must agree with CapnRex101is not really well done.
It is a really nice video though.
The Ewok Village was a no brainer in terms of buying for my collection. This video does not yet stimulates me to save up some money.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

i hope the wampa cave is a stand alone set
Echo Base should only be "Echo Base": a base (like 7879), a gate (like 7666) and some trenches

the set in the movie look more like a Hoth version of 8038 Battle of Endor, not a UCS

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aren't we all being a bit too quick to judge this set, assuming of course that this is the set!!! I'll wait until the official press release and designer video before passing judgment. I've no doubt the final set will be awesome if 10188 and 10236 are anything to go by.
Awesome little animation though, I love lego's sense of humour.
