There are currently 38 LEGO Dimensions packs in the database and with just under a month until the release of the first wave we finally have an image for 71235 Midway Arcade. As you can see this Fun Pack consists of a white car, a retro gamer minifigure and a rather nice arcade machine. Unfortunately the set will not be available until next year, but until then there are plenty more sets to satisfy our gaming needs!

According to the latest press release about LEGO Dimensions the Midway Arcade level features various classic arcade games which Gandalf, Wyldstyle and Batman must fight their way through. You can read the full press release, which also refers to The Simpsons level, after the break.

The Simpsons Level within the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack incorporates a cell-shaded art style, for a look that is true to the original, animated series and unique from the other levels within the game. Players will face an unlikely pair of evil masterminds in The Simpsons Level – Lord Business and The Joker – who have joined Lord Vortech’s legion of villains and invaded Springfield. It is up to our heroes to defeat them and restore order in The Simpsons world. For fans of The Simpsons that want to customise their LEGO Dimensions experience, a The Simpsons Level Pack which includes a LEGO Homer Simpson minifigure and The Simpsons Fun Packs which include a LEGO Bart Simpson minifigure and a LEGO Krusty the Clown minifigure were also announced. All of the characters, vehicles or gadgets from any of these expansion packs can be combined with any other characters, vehicles and gadgets that exist throughout the game, and can be played in any level, with any other entertainment property. Imagine the fun of Bart Simpson riding a Velociraptor in Metropolis.

In the Midway Arcade Level within the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle find themselves in a videogame, where they must race in Super Sprint, smash their way through hordes of enemies in Gauntlet, save astronauts in Defender and defeat robots in Robotron. For retro gamer fans, there will be a Midway Arcade Gamer Level Pack with a LEGO Retro Gamer minifigure, and an entire level with more than 20 arcade games to beat.

Launching 29th September, LEGO Dimensions will be available for Xbox One, the all-in one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation4 and PlayStation3 computer entertainment systems and Nintendo´s Wii U system.

By in Canada,

Weird that the Xbox One was so heavily highlighted at the end there... Was this PR released by Microsoft or something?

By in Japan,

Wow! Some of these Dimensions packs are really out of left field... But I'm loving it!

Wait. Midway declared bankruptcy in 2009... I wonder why they're the ones represented in this pack and not, say, Bandai Namco or Taito.

This just keeps looking better and better... the only frustrating thing for me is that my two favourite properties, Star Wars and Marvel Heroes, aren't going to make it in thanks to Disney Infinity...

By in Puerto Rico,

That would look neat in a Lego city Arcade.

By in United States,

Considering all of the Ideas proposals that have been funneled into Dimensions, it looks more and more like a convenient dumping ground for otherwise unviable Ideas sets, at least from an AFOL point of view. So far we have

Arcade cabinet (or was that just a custom for sale?)
Portal
Wizard of Oz

I can't see Zelda ever making it in, too, but this would have be the best opportunity if not for Nintendo having it's own toys-to-life line. Such a shame the Zelda proposals never passed though, because with the speed Lego has been cranking out new molds, it's clear that was never really an issue.

Oh my god, thats the Spy Hunter "interceptor" car! That Defender arcade cabinet is fantastic too.

I can't resist this set, the videogamer in me needs this now.

Only thing I would change is the minifigure to be either a Gauntlet character or maybe one of the Smash TV contestants lol

By in Australia,

I just love how they've built the arcade game in the Level pack. Building the joystick like that? That's just brilliant! Much love.

Nostalgia overload! I liked the Spy Hunter coin-op so much I expended untold young childhood hours trying to replicate it on my C64 using Simon's Basic. I only got to where I had a scrolling straight road with randomized trees, a car that could be controlled side to side (joystick if I remember), and my wee brain had figured out collision detection to the point where hitting a tree would crash you out. I didn't learn that an actual C64 port of the game was sold until, oh, two decades later? Doh!

I want that torso and that sticker sheet.

@thisisteekay:

I'd hazard a guess that contractual obligations between the developer and the right's owners of the games console systems would specify how each console is titled in any PR releases. Same goes for the reg'd trademark icons in the text.

Coming to Xbox! and all these other consoles but it's coming to Xbox!
Anyways, the nostalgia is going to take it's toll on my wallet when this is released but seriously, who wouldn't want Dr.Who vs The Space Invaders?

XBox fan boy spotted! :)

By in United Kingdom,

I want to collect these sets but it seems like instead of competitively pricing them they've just added together the already inflated prices for DLC + lego + collectable figurine. The total cost for 28 fun packs, 4 team packs, 5 level packs, and 1 starter pack is $755. And thats only whats been revealed so far. I've got better lego lines to spend my money on as tempting as this is to collect.

By in Netherlands,

It might be costly, but I hope it won't get to Batman I -like prices in the aftermarket. Otherwise collecting some of them would be sink or swim!

(Note: Batman I is the 2006-2008 run of Batman licensed sets. The figures alone reach 25 euro easily).

I will probably only buy the ones I really like and leave it at that. The Wicked Witch of the West is a strong contender amongst the few I would like.

By in United States,

This makes sense seeing as Warner Bros. acquired most of Midway's assets in 2009. Also a creative level idea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Actually come to think of it, shouldn't it be 25 cents on the coin?

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Long wait until 27th september

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This wont be a sticker sheet, it will be printed parts like all the other Dimensions sets seem to be (the instructions floating around for the Dr Who level pack showed printed parts in the parts list).

Makes sense that Midway is included considering Warner Bros bought all their assets.

Uh well, if all voters just want to own the figures of certain protaginsts, that mission is complete. BUT buildings should be the main heroes of most projects as those are also be wanted by most voters (at least, Ideas refuses figures-only projects...). It should be nice if all licenses included in the game could release a full wave of regular products in the future.
For now, your thought that rejectd Ideas licenses could all be in this game actually sounds making it worse. After all, we have to consider that the rejected licesnses were still unofficial and we should consider official franchises first.

Just in Zelda's example, it's simple cause all Nintendo franchises are only available in their own consoles.

@DanRSL: I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Nintendo characters in LEGO Dimensions. After all, two Nintendo characters (Bowser and Donkey Kong) will be available as figures for Activision's Skylanders SuperChargers, so it's clear Nintendo isn't against that type of partnership. They're even designing those two Skylanders figures so they can double as Amiibo figures!

Of course, the Bowser and DK Skylanders figures will only be usable with the Wii U version of the game, and Warner Bros. might not be as keen on introducing platform-exclusive figures to LEGO Dimensions (especially since they seem to be pretty serious about ensuring that every LEGO Dimensions figure will be compatible with the original starter pack).

@Evil Pixie Works: You can see all the release dates for the currently announced LEGO Dimensions sets here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tormentalous/20742870448/ There are five waves currently announced. The first will be released September 27, the second November 3, the third January 19, the fourth March 15, and the fifth May 10. The fun packs will cost $15 each, so yeah, they'll be expensive. You probably won't want to buy many of them if you're not interested in the actual game.

By in Australia,

Damn! Another Dimensions pack that I NEED to order! Covers the video gamer in me, the nostalgia of playing at arcades when I was a teenager (30 years ago) and LEGO! What a find!

Good thing I have only told my lovely wife that I have ordered "LEGO Dimesions" for us, and not specified what that actually entailed :). I can just add on to the pre order and add and add and add! Now all I need is a Destiny Theme. LOL

By in Australia,

There is a lot of scope if they have an ongoing licence with Midway. Hopefully that carries over to the rumoured arcade modular/fairground set...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had never heard of Midway before, only the other arcade machines mentioned like Bandai Namco, Sega etc. this will be expensive for me, and thats even without me buying the fun packs or team packs. I will only buy the level packs looking at what's there so far but even those still include Portal, BTTF, Simpsons, Ghostbusters, DW and this Arcade Pack. Plus probably one or 2 others I can't remember offhand.

According to a recent Playstation magazine, there are 3 sections of the Dimensions pad and they will affect how you play levels by placing models, especially with the puzzles in Portal. Sounds interesting.

By in Italy,

I've just read that DIMENSIONS won't be released in Italy...anyone can tell me why???

Gravatar
By in United States,

If i missed reading it, I'm sorry in advance. Are any American retailers offering a pre-sale exclusive?
