Blocks issue 12 out now
Posted by Huw,
Here is information about the latest issue of Blocks magazine:
The new issue of Blocks magazine is now in the shops. Issue 12 features an underwater theme, with reviews of the new Deep Sea Explorers sets, exploration of previous underwater themes, as well as analysis of Friends and Big Bang Theory releases.
We also introduce a brand new 16-page feature for this 12th issue, with bitesize sections exploring LEGO games, photography, ‘how-to’ builds, brickfilming and collecting.
Elsewhere, mechas come in for a group discussion, we find out how to create underwater scenery, introduce a new Blocks animation project, visit three shows and get to know LEGO stars from the world of brickfilming, collaborative building and mosaic creation.
Finally, we also introduce a free zombie postman minifigure for readers renewing their Blocks subscription as it rolls round to our first birthday. With all this and much more besides, can you afford to miss out?

I received my copy a week or so ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I felt that the last few issues were pretty poor (but didn't like to say so at the time) but this issue is much better and has some genuinely interesting articles in it, in particular Brickset contributor FlagsNZ's one about the Maersk Triple E ship. So, it looks as if editor Rob has managed to turn things around, which is just as well given the subscriptions of those that signed up at launch are now due for renewal. Based on the quality of this issue, I would have no hesitation in re-subscribing.

At first I did wonder whether or not there would be enough content to support two apparently similar magazines. However I took the gamble and subscribed to both (all three if you include Brick Culture).
I thought that the poorer issues of Blocks were the first few, and I have been quite happy with it (and the other two) of late. I will re-subscribe, and the zombie postie is a fine bonus.
Last two issues have been much better. I even went nuts and renewed my subscription.
I was hesitating in buying this one, but from your brief notes I think I'll look at getting this!
I received the renewal letter today. The last few issues really have been deeply sub par, and for me that was the final nail in the coffin. Sorry Blocks but I won't be taking out a new subscription.
Good pitch. I'll give it another go.
How is the Mecha Based Madness article? Any HowToBuild Mecha guide?
I bought this new issue, having only bought 1 issue in the past. I was pleasantly surprised that it kept me entertained for an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon, and then my 12 year old read it also. This issue had a good mix of themed reviews and some good interviews. I'm tempted to check the next issue out.
Is there a way to buy just this issue in the US?
el_rey95, check your Barnes and Noble. That's where I've picked mine up.
Thank you!
el_rey95, Barnes and Noble does indeed stock then but they are usually about a month behind so if you don't find the issue you want right away be sure to check back! That has been my experience at least.
Interesting to see a few negative comments here, whilst it isnt perfect its better than nothing. I am a collector of SFX magazine and went back to their first issues, they deginitely werent up to scratch, but now SFX is world wide and admired. Give blocks a chance. Dont forget it did have a bumpy start and couldve died then, but persevered. Be interesting to return to this forum in a few years.
Mabye subscribers of the Brick Magazines/Culture Magazines will have some free minifigure/polybag for renewing their subscription :)
